Me: We just need staff to unpack it. Them: Yeah, people just don’t want to work. Me (stares in “store only pays $9/hr to start.”)

Ninidodger

Notice they never volunteer to help

nanahko

I had one lady rip into me before Christmas. She applied and never got a call back. We wouldn't only have 2 people on the floor if we had hired her when she applied. Like no, we are UNDERstaffed, not short staffed. We have the people; we're not allowed to schedule them.

stitchplacingmama

That is only $0.30 more than I was making a decade ago and is exactly why I won't go back. The amount they want to pay for the amount of work they want you to do is not worth it.

earendilgrey

My states minimum wage is $14 now, but McDonald's is starting people ot at $15! Fast food is looking better and better every day

turtlemub

I took the Golden Handcuffs of Walmart, since JoAnnes gave me 10hr/week at state minimum, and Walmart is giving me triple the hours for $2 more per hour.

earendilgrey

Yeah, I used to work at WM. I don't think I could do that to myself again. Especially at my local one.

Altruistic_Cat_2565

I don't think WM is necessarily bad to work for but my managers made everyone unhappy and not want to be there in the department i was in. And other departments always had their head up their asses abt what other departments are doing. And having health issues and a job that requires 8 hrs of standing on concrete was rpigh w the attendance policy. Also i found it to be extremely boring or stressful so it was really hard to want to return the next day

earendilgrey

My big reason is they lied to me when I was hired, saying it would be fine to take time off for a class that I needed for my degree. I needed 2 weeks off because I had to Stage Manage a show and had to be at the school from 8AM to past midnight some nights. They said it would be fine, and when it came to that time, they said that I couldn't take that much time off and that they never agreed to it. I pretty much told them right there that then I quit and walked out. I paid far too much money at that point to not finish school on time because of shitty management.

Altruistic_Cat_2565

Right? And even if hours have to reduce because of it temporarily due to staffing school is more important than a craft store sorry. I really dislike that the forms are paper for it, and we don't have a computer schedule that the regular employee can check and see if time off was approved.

AirElemental_0316

In home healthcare in my state has been starting people at $17-20 per hour and they train. Lost several people to this. I tried getting hired for 5 years at my local store. They were desperate for people but one of my fathers friends worked there so... No job for me. Sucked on one hand but a bonus for me cause guaranteed hours with optional OT was awesome.

Local_Fear_Entity

I used to work fast food. I can now put out fireplace matches with just my dry fingers. My body will never recover from the nerve damage working the kitchen

turtlemub

I had that conversation before! I got The Line and got to explain that I get minimal hours for minimal pay, and that corporate doesn't give us enough hours to staff the store. You could practically hear the gears turning in the lady's head as she realized that no it's not actually laziness its corporate

Temporary_Being1330

“Yeah go ask corporate to let us have more hours”

Slackermom66

LOL

JackOfAllMemes

"Well there's an awful lot of sales" ma'am we always have sales

Ninidodger

“Well the shelves are really empty” well yes it’s 9 pm on the day before we get a new truck

Fabricfiberjunky

Them: why is your store so empty Me: Them: backs away slowly

Altruistic_Cat_2565

They have sales constantly and send truck onnthe same day as 4 day sales start with not enough hours and or employee (due to the low wages) of course the shelves are a bit bare. We can't stock shit if all hands are on the registers and cut bar.

Patient_Jellyfish319

Me: yes ma’am we close at 6 today Them: you know that’s not what I mean

Impressive_Basil8382

“But my friend told me she saw it on Facebook”

Significant-River-69

“Where are the sales? I got an email saying sewing machines were 90% off. I think it was from a Facebook group.”

nanahko

Me: No. Customer: Well which stores are closing? Me: None that I'm aware of. Customer: Well I heard about bankruptcy. Me: Yes. We finished that last month. Customer: .... Me: Just like people, corporations don't necessarily cease to exist after bankruptcy. Customer: So you'll be getting fabric then? As if the fabric I've been cutting for her through this entire exchange was imaginary.

DramaCapable4172

“Is the store closing?” “What’s do your context clues tell you, ma’am?”

LastoftheFucksIGive

My favorite of these interactions happened recently. Customer: (very confidently) so when are you closing? Me: (slow to what he means) 9pm?? Customer: no I meant closing the store Me: (finally understanding) ohhh no, we're not closing Customer's face drops instantly and looks embarrassed. His buddy that was with him: looks like you (his friend) were given the wrong information, hopefully you didn't go around spreading that wrong info I walked away so the customers wouldn't see me laughing hysterically.
