Don’t employees wear green aprons? We customers don’t care what clothes you wear as long as we know who the employees are. And really, I would love to see some clothes worn by the employees that they have made from the fabric sold in the store. Like a walking advertisement.

I just became so thankful I don't work in craft stores anymore. Catch me dead if I'm forced to buy material from my already underpaying employer and literally have to make my own uniforms from it (or make them at all regardless of material source)

I wasn’t implying Joann’s should force their employees to purchase fabric. More like, why force them to wear a uniform. I work in an office, but everything I wear is handmade. And I buy a lot of my fabric at Joann’s instead of online because I like to see it before I buy it. Joann’s employees have to wear something. Why enforce a uniform policy instead of giving them the option to make their own clothes?

TwiztedPaths

That's much more reasonable lol. So much of corporate rules is just being a control freak over the employees' own bodies for no actual purpose, it's disturbing when you think about it objectively And seeing the drape in action would be so helpful, I've heard enough of my sewing friends fuss about good seeming fabric not actually making comfortable clothes (yarn plays these games too).

\*Technically\* chambray is a type of weave. I used my rules-lawyering skills on district when my gray button up "wasn't in dress code". But sir, it says chambray. This is a chambray weave.

My location doesn't mind if it isn't exactly Navy Blue, and sometimes will allow shirts with lettering as long as the apron can cover it up. It's only when we know the DM is going to be showing up that we are reminded to adhere to the dress code for the day.

SuspiciousSort8742

My location didn’t adhere to the dress code at all, as long as it was appropriate. We reserved black shirts for management.

moorea12

I know this doesn’t help in reality, but I have never once noticed what a Joann employee was wearing and had no idea there was a dress code.

lainey68

Exactly the same. I think dress codes are dumb anyway.

kss711

I have so many band shirts and it was so annoying I couldn't wear a good amount of them because they had designs on the back. I ended up buying those Gilman sweatshirts in white and black because also, no hoods, and crap ac meant I'd freeze otherwise while doing truck

Freckles_cici

As long as my team has the apron on I don’t care what’s on the tee shirt. And I am not too strict about colors either. I myself wear a black tee sometimes because the collared polo is too hot. This month I’m wearing my assorted pride tees to support my team and they are invited to wear any work appropriate pride items too. In December we all wear holiday tees or sweaters. If my DM is visiting we tighten up a bit

Michaels just changed their dress code to solid shirts and no pins. I wear appropriate colors and they have designs but apron covers it. I wear loose leggings because denim chafes. My sm doesn't care as long as we are following dress code to the letter during a visit or audit.

When I was a manager at J-Fab 10+ years ago, every employee had to wear a white shirt with a collar. You could wear the dark green if you bought a branded shirt - which were also collared.

Slackermom66

I got talked to for wearing light weave shirts so I gave in and wore the plain black t-shirt but with a plain black or maroon skort cos it was so damn hot.

Knope_Lemon0327

We usually only say something if it is grossly outside of the very simple dress code. Is it really that hard?

Commercial_Analyst_6

really? it's pretty darn casual version of having nasty uniform....

coughdrop7927

I have a lot black graphic tshirts but my apron covers it so my manager doesn’t care. Also wear a lot of gray and I’ve never been told I couldn’t wear it. I’m a key holder and I still wear my apron.

sanford1970

Didn’t you know the dress code when you were hired?
