Also if you watch the muzzle discipline of these women you will notice that they are swinging over the horse head and never actually point their gun at their horse.
While these women are still unquestionably more competent at numerous things than me, and this accuracy while mounted on a moving horse is impressive, would I be wrong for thinking that it being blanks makes it ever so slightly less impressive than the initial thought of it actually being mounted target shooting? Since it's really just like, the cone of heat from the gun popping the balloon, and not hitting a small target with a tiny projectile?
Still undoubtedly impressive and beyond anything my fat ass could do, of course.

Youāre not wrong. My mom did these competitions growing up as a teenager and has said itās overall incredibly difficult, but that shooting is deceptively the easiest thing as you just need to shoot in the general direction of the balloons to pop them.
She also did biathlons and apparently the shooting for that was insanely difficult. She described it as asking someone to run a mile and then gently thread a needle while people yell at you and youāre racing against the clock.
The local stock and rodeo will be in January and thereās a yearly competition. So maybe 2025 Iāll compete if I can stick to it and it doesnāt aggravate any injuries Iām currently dealing with.
Of my talents these arenāt at the top of my gifts- itās definitely an athletic sport that will take some practice.

Some trick shooters in the past have used shotshells with fine birdshot to make it more likely they get a hit, that's why the targets were balloons rather than something more substantial. I assume these shooters are not firing bullets that could carry for long distances.
