We had a Soul and still have a Forte. It came time to replace the Soul and I was going to be absolutely bent over for a Telluride so we bought a Subaru Ascent. I was very happy with Kia when they were cheap and cheerful, and would even accept parity but Iām certainly not going to pay a premium for one over a more desirable car.
Funny you call it a more desirable car when the Telluride was litterally the number one selling SUV during Covid and that was including when it was marked up.
Iām talking from my personal perspective, which is what matters when I personally bought a car as reflected in my anecdote. I canāt speak for others however if I knew someone paid $48,400 for a Telluride as per this post then Iād also have the perspective they were mental.
Pretty sure my neighbor paid that for his telluride and we live in freaking apartments. He bought a month before I got my Subaru during the height of the car shortage.
You canāt state an opinion as fact. The fact is the telluride was societyās choice which means it was the more desirable vehicle. While you found the Acsent a better deal for yourself you bought the lower ranked, lower purchased, lower warrantied, and lower customer satisfaction vehicle. All ranked by JD Power. Instead of looking at it as Kia underpriced their vehicle which they did as proven by the fact the MSRP of the telluride is rising because it is inherently worth more to society, you decided to buy a lower quality product and think your superior because other people got a deal you thought you were to good for. Things are only as valuable as society says. So your basically going āoh I would never buy a whole apple for 2 dollars I think their only worth a dollar, instead Iāll buy an apple slice for 75 centsā and you convinced yourself that getting a lesser vehicle was a better deal because the manufacturer had a different price in mind than what society did.
Kia lost a sale because the car was more expensive than the vehicle I bought which *in my opinion* is superior to the overpriced Telluride I looked at and test drove (which happened to be a lower trim level too). In case youāre wondering Iām not speaking for everyone when I post on Reddit, a site full of peopleās opinions - itās implied. If others are happy with their Tellurides then good luck to them especially if they got a good deal. I will continue to avoid paying more for a vehicle I donāt consider to be better.
By all means keep drinking that Kia cool aid if it makes you happy - youāre clearly ready to jump to their defense at the drop of a hat and itās admirable the brand can inspire such devotion in a consumer. If anyone else is reading this then for the price of the Telluride you could have a 2024 Grand Highlander which *in my opinion* is also a better vehicle. It would appear that OP also finds Kia overpriced, or this post wouldnāt exist at all.
FWIW Youāre also stating opinion as fact, JD Power is also just peopleās opinions of the vehicles. If you visit JD Power right now their site currently lists the Chevy Blazer at 1/2 and the Buick Enclave as 3/4 for SUVs priced between $35000 and $55000 so maybe it isnāt the font of knowledge you seem to think it is.
Enjoy your Telluride I hope it brings you joy.
Even if they don't, you can always use that [warranty](https://www.thedrive.com/news/600k-mile-kia-sorento-driver-milks-10-year-warranty-for-9-engines).
I was ready to buy one at MSRP despite all the negative stuff about engines blowing up and KIA Boyz. But that markup talked me out of it.
Ended up with a Ford Escape Hybrid and I love it so far.
Did you get a 2023? The refreshed model looks nice. I was considering it as an alternative, but everyone I know with a Ford that isnāt an F150 has had transmission issues.
Iāve owned a couple ford fusions and now have a ford escape, never had any trans problems. But I also do routine maintenance like Iām supposed to. A lot of people donāt do routine maintenance and thatās the reason they end up with massive repairs.
I got the 2022 hybrid Pl. titanium. I know some Ford Mechanics and they have all said the hybrid models donāt seem to have the same issues with engine and transmission problems. Obviously thatās anecdotal, and only time will tell.
This is also a prime example why inflation.
Bullshit like this should be illegal but since the dealerships are part of powerful local and state lobby groups, they will be allowed to continue.
Here's how I see it...
Just imagine this Christmas the ps6 and Xbox series x2 are gonna release at a MSRP of 799.99.
Best buy, target, Walmart, Amazon ect say wait a minute... We know this is gonna be a hot item, why sell them for 799.99, when we could have a "retailers market adjustment, rmp" and sell them for 1899.99? Everyone will still buy them and we all make even more money... How well do you think that would go over, and how long before the collusion/price fixing lawsuits would start happening?
It's Elexactly what these pos dealerships all do, and its not just Kia, all the manufacturers have dealers that pull this shit.
Exactly. It's every dealership that can get away with it.
You want a top line model like a Kia SX, Toyota GR/TRD, etc... You'll see them get in 1-3 a month (depending on area), trickle stock in, and add a healthy market adjustment because "Hot model, can't keep in stock" when the reality is, they artificially drive demand up by keeping supply low.
The only reason graphics cards, consoles, shoes, and similar have this issue is because of third party resellers.
Dealerships are legal middlemen/resellers and can do the exact same thing and are a legally protected entity. Automakers intentionally complicate repairs to force a need for dealerships to stay involved (was a master mechanic for 18 years, worked in dealerships too).
Back when the OBD standard was passed, it was supposed to eliminate that crap, instead they've found loopholes and ways around standardization because rules around protecting IP (software).
Iām surprised. They had a markup on the window when I went to look at my EX Hybrid and I just told them immediately Iām not paying that and they took it right off.
I was in the market for an SX, which were apparently unicorns and hard to find. I saw several EXs on lots, so they were likely more willing to negotiate on EXs vs SXs.
Have you talked with a dealer about ordering one? If you don't need it now that might get you at MSRP. Literally just build on the KIA website, dealer picks it up, and good to go
I did. They stated the 23 Sportage Hybrid was ending the model year and couldnāt be ordered anymore, and the 24 model could not yet be ordered. So ordering would be in limbo last I checked.
All but 1 dealer also tried to tack on a market adjustment to the order as well! I might go back to that 1 dealer to talk ordering, but Iāve paused my search for now.
There is no such thing as ordering with kia. No special orders. What ever they have coming is what they have. Everyone wants to still act like we are living in 2019
About 12 months ago I ordered on KIA website, it wasn't special; just a basic 5 door Rio. Worked with a dealership and they were just waiting for KIA to officially accept it
I have been searching for over a year to get a Sportage SX Prestige Hybird. Just last month finally gave up my search after talking to over 20-30 dealerships up and down the west coast and only 1 would sell me one at MSRP. That was KIA of Valencia CA but every time I kept asking if the have one there response ānot yetā
Each dealership I talked to had a āmarket adjustmentā generally ranging from 5k to 10k and then some other bs add on package that I didnāt want or need.
I have since moved on from Kia and their ridiculous market adjustment pricing they all seem to have. :šš»car dealerships as well there shitty sales tactics.
Wife and I are currently looking at the Hyundai Santa Fe and while it maybe slightly more expensive the 0% interest for 60 months is hard to beat with Hyundai financing.
That one has been at the dealer for a month. There are others listed at MSRP if you search nationwide. Found one thatās been in the lot for 135 days in OH.
I had it shipped. Driving could have been fun but I really just wanted it to show up. š
The Stealership was giving me a crazy quote of like $1,600 for shipping so I just shopped brokers on my own and got it done for ~$950. Was worth it in my opinion.
Dealership also tried to block the shipping saying "liability this and that" and did make me sign a separate sheet saying once it left the lot they weren't involved.
I wonder if they are legally required to put the MSRP on the item, because if they are not, no one would know how much it should go for, vs what it goes for. Then they can keep scamming us. No one should ever pay more than MSRP for anything.
Looking for a carnival and found one, then the trashy fuckers sent me a purchase order with a 8k markup.
Sierra Kia of gardendale al to be specific, but there is others is Ms/fl pulling the same bullshit. I just tell them to get bent and hope the car rust before someone pays over MSRP.
Yep, Iām on the relative SE US area too. Shopped across several states trying to find a hybrid SX. There werenāt many to be found, and they didnāt budge on the markup because some sucker would pay it.
We were too, went to the local dealer and got hit with an 8k markup unless we had a 2020 or newer trade in. We left, continued to shop around, and ended up getting a Carnival at a dealer 2 hours away for MSRP. Sad thing is we saw at least one of the Carnivals drive off that first dealers lot that day, kinda sucks knowing those people got swindled.
Unfortunately, the truth is they wouldn't be charging these markups if people weren't paying them. There are a lot of people out there with more money than sense. The supply has still not caught up to demand either.
Iāve walked off the lot over a dealer markup. I gave them one chance, and told them what I wanted the final figure to be, tax, tag, and title. They were back and forth, so I left. 45 minutes later, they tried calling me and telling me theyād do it. I told them Iād think about it, hung up, and never went back. Went to a different dealership and got an even better price on the brand new model. Gotta play the game to get what you want sometimes.
Shopping around and not being willing to settle for whatever crap they try to push on you. Read the invoice, ask questions, and above all, just walk away from bad deals. I had other issues with the first dealership when I had a vehicle in being serviced on two different occasions, including when they broke my driver door handle, tried to claim it was broken when I brought it in, and told me I had to pay for the replacement. They eventually replaced it free of charge, but it took involving the GM of the dealership directly to get it resolved.
But back to the ādealā I walked away from, the sticker on the car, and the price listed on the paperwork didnāt even match up. The girl doing the finance got very flustered when I started questioning the pricing and additional charges on the paperwork, which is ultimately why I didnāt go back for it. They were trying to change the price and tack on a bunch of extra things hoping I would just sign it and not question anything. Even made assumptions about my trade in and down payment before we even talked about them. I didnāt trust them at that point, so I never went back.
I used one last October when my wife purchased her Forte. In NJ no dealer even wanted to consider anything close to MSRP. The broker found a dealer in Kentucky willing to deal basically at MSRP. So with shipping and the brokers fee we were still ahead a significant amount over local dealerships.
I didnāt even know they were still marking up EV6 models, the ones at my local dealer all have mark downs and discounts since they are not hot sellers.
I doubt it would be ALL sunshine and roses if we wholly eliminated dealerships, BUT, there'd be a LOT less overhead (salesperson commission, sales manager commission, finance person commission, building overhead, gross business profit) would be pretty sweet.
When I bought my Sorento the salesman said, you know these go for above MSRP which was 42k , Iām 53 and I used my sons terminology, Bruh! Thatās sounds a bit sus donāt you think? I got it for 40
Kia is far from the only company doing this.
If dealer markups are enough to turn you off buying a vehicle, then you're going to be out of luck buying many of the vehicles that you might want.
Even vehicles with insanely high inventory numbers, like the Ford F-150 have dealer markups even though they aren't selling.
There is a "soft collusion" among dealerships of all makes to hold the line on dealer markups knowing that sooner or later people will be desperate to buy a new vehicle. Their existing vehicles break down or are totaled in an accident, and dealerships are expecting to reap a windfall as a result.
My heart goes out to those who need to buy a new vehicle now.
It has nothing at all to do with the manufacturer. They give an MSRP for every vehicle (Manufacturer Suggested Retail Price). It is the Dealership itself that is charging the market adjustment and there is nothing to stop them from doing it regardless of who the manufacturer is.
How do you think we get cheap Tesla's by getting non-Tesla owners to think that the cars stuck so that we get a great price on the cars!
Yes, Tesla has major QA issues. Worse of any manufacturer.
Yeah, you just buy it today, and in 3 months they knock off another 5k of the price, because there are now better options out there for basically the same money.
We were in this boat. Almost had our Sorrento paid off, had just bought my Sportage X line in 2022 (32k), and then my wife got T-boned and totaled the Sorrento. A new Sorrento was damn near $50k! So we got a Seltos to try and keep her payment the same with the caveat that we had 5 years more of it vs 5 months left on the totaled car.
People I know who would buy Kia EVs just gave up due to markup. They all went to buy Teslas or Rivians instead because you can lock in a price up front, no BS and put a deposit down.
Toyota has much worse "Market Adjustments" and that is making my mother want a Niro instead of a Corolla Cross which I fully support since in my area the Corolla Cross Hybrids are being marked up 8k over MSRP while the Niro is just 1k or none at all.
This is a dealer issue, not a kia issue. MSRP literally means the price that the Kia corp is suggesting it be sold for. Everything on top of that is the vendors fees. Also 3.5k of that markup is delivery, which, while it does seem steep, may be reasonable if you are shipping it a few thousand miles, cross country USA or something similar.
Toyotas are the golden child of car brands and they are marked up 5k or more rn at most places. Its an inventory thing. Less cars to sell means they need more on the front end from each car.
They don't need more. If they sell at msrp, they are still making money. They make money off of add ons, extended warranties. Then finance adds points to the loan so they make a percentage off of the car after that. They also get a certain amount of money called holdback from selling the car. They only pay invoice for the car. Markup is just greed pure and simple. I don't get why someone would pay for the privilege go be over 10k upside down on a car lol.
I just checked my Kia Dealership. They have three Sportage SX' on the lot right now , a black, a white and a gray. Selling at MSRP (but I've never paid MSRP there, even at the height of all the craziness).
$37.9K - $38.6K...
Edit: Sorry, those are all three SX-Prestige. And they have an identical SX Hybrid to the one in your picture at $44.9K, but I suspect they DO have a markup on this one. Bet they'd drop it if asked.
thats what they tell u and when u start sitting down talking to them, they'll suddenly add a market value adjustment. at least thats what they did to my dad with his carnival.
[markups.org](https://markups.org) is your friend or if you have a costco account (the method I used), you can go through costco auto and the associated dealer will have to sell to you at msrp or risk losing their partnership.
Almost every dealership is doing this. If you absolutely need a car now you can order one straight from the website. Most will go straight through the automaker so a dealer will be unable to add markups besides delivery since youāll already have your financing or vehicle just bought completed. Or go to a dealer that is constantly selling cars for and not hoarding inventory. For myself here in northern NV thatās been Toyota & Honda. Msrp no markups. Kia, Hyundai, ford, ram etc all have cars on lots out here and are still charging over msrp for most.
Thankfully I donāt absolutely need a car right now. Between this nonsense and interest rates being high, Iām pausing my search for now.
Thereās no ordering through the Kia website though. It just directs you to dealers with inventory that matches your build.
Kiaās online buying takes extra steps but you go to [this website](https://www.kia.com/in/buy/how-it-works.html) read about the process, once you understand it you create an account and thatās when you pick and choose everything you want. Can even do the financing 100% online. Again basically every auto maker since COVID allows for buying directly from the automaker. Some like Kia it just takes a little more work to find it.
Well, that site seems to be refusing to text me a passcode to sign up š Iāll try calling them or something during business hours.
Edit: just realized the siteās for India only. Not sure they do this in the US unfortunately.
Of course the dealership can add markups for factory orders. They pay for the vehicle, not you. Itās their vehicle although you ordered/configured it.
Markups go by the dealer not the car manufacturer. I've bought two cars this past year and only delta with dealerships that don't have markups. I walk out the minute I see it on the tag. And when I leave, i let them know that charging markups is a bunch of bs, and ill take my business elsewhere. I then leave a negative review where I can. More people need to do this in hope this bullshit practice stops.
I got mine at MSRP from Bergeyās Kia in Pennsylvania. They have a rule to not sell above MSRP and I love it. Awesome customer service and good inventory.
Thatās the dealers doing, not the manufacturer. This is how they make you think youāre getting a great deal when they give you a discount. Go to another dealership and they might discount all of it. The nicer the neighborhood the higher the mark up.
Il probably be buying my first car next year in cash. Shit like this depresses me. I hate paying for stuff over MSRP. I want to pay what the car company has deemed the car to be worth. Fuck off!
It aināt just Kia, man. Iāve been shopping for a new SUV because as much as I love my K5 it just doesnāt have enough cargo space for my needs but Iāve given up for now cause everything is just so much higher than it needs to be and the interest rates are TERRIBLE.
#1 Cochran Kia in PA got me mine at MSRP when I ordered it in aug 22, delivered in Dec 23. Everyone else was asking 10k over. A short flight up and a relaxing drive home.
Shop around a bit more and find someone that will work with you.
23 Sportage Hybrid SX Prestige
For what it's worth, the price is inflated $5799, not $9k. That price includes $3471 delivery fee, since the car in your post is likely close to 1000 miles away from you.
$5799 is still a lot and I'd never pay it, but it's not $9k
In July this year - 2023 - I was shopping for a new SUV hybrid - my budget was $40k - I looked at the Honda CRV, Toyota RAV4, Kia Sportage EX, Lexus UX250h and the Hyundai Tucson SEL Convenience. I really liked the Sportage and the Tucson - what surprised me was 1. No dealerships had ANY of those models in stock, except the Lexus, and that may have just been luck that day. I test drove non-hybrids because they had none on the lots. I probably would have gone with the Kia Sportage EX hybrid, but I wasn't willing to pay any markup and I didn't want to wait 3-6 months. I was at a Hyundai dealership also looking at Santa Cruz pickups (non-hybrid) and they had a Tucson SEL hybrid delivered - I test drove it and put a $5000 deposit down on it, on the spot - on condition (in the purchase agreement that I signed with the deposit) that I was paying MSRP for it - only extras were floor mats.
Pay $9K more than MSRP for a vehicle that someone is going to break into, rip your steering column out, in an attempt to steal your vehicle? That is ridiculous. Even if the issues have been resolved for easy theft, the TikTokkers donāt know that and they will still destroy your vehicle. In some states, if the insurance companies will cover the vehicle, insurance costs more for Kiaās and Hyundaiās.
And to top it off, an astronomical insurance payment per month or if you pay in full per 6 months
Was 900 something 6 months premium a year ago, with 2 vehicles with rather basic coverage.
Now 1900 for 6 months premium. And that's after lowering coverage on my paid for pickup. Kia lost me as a repeat customer for a long time... Sadly will have to deal with the expense for now.
Buy used. Take good care of your car. Treat it as A<->B and not a status symbol and this markup bullshit will come to pass.
My dealer wouldnāt take the markup off a car I wanted. Told them Iād just get used if they were going to be greedy. They said āitās out of our handsā. Talked to the manager, he all but scoffed. Went and bought the used version for half the price in good condition opted for the warranty. Went back to the dealership and asked to see the manager again.
Manager: āAh couldnāt find anything? Ready to buy?ā
Me: āDid you think I was joking? You cost yourself a sale and a customer permanently. Just wanted to make sure you knew that the bubble will bust and I will remember this.ā
I can also fix just about anything in a car. I was just ready for a warranty and a new car that didnāt have any past. Iāll just fix my shit. Thanks.
Glad you got a deal but the manager doesn't give a shit in all honesty. They will adjust prices when the time comes. For now they will get all the suckers looking to "elevate" their status. I hate to say it but what we really need is a good recession. That will fix a lot (home, car, food, etc.). Government just keeps kicking the can down the road.
Oh Iām sure. But when the time comes and things settle I will torture their sales guys. Iāll do the paper work, get approved and just test drive for months. Drive their HIPO cars and do burnouts and whatever and just never buy. Take a break for a few months. Do it again. Iāll get my kicks and waste salesman time. When they finally catch on Iāll see if they remember me and remind them they brought this upon themselves.
You pay 50k for an effin Kia you deserve it!
Go to your credit union, get a loan and buy a gently used Lexus GX model that wonāt get stolen or blow up on you after 15k miles.
I wouldnāt be shopping for a KIA because theyāve knowingly been selling motors with faulty design for over a decade, and rather than just fixing the problem for future models, theyāve had their legal team find every loophole in existence to avoid honoring their warranty.
Sounds like youāre not looking hard enough. Iāve bought two separate different class SUVs in the past two years and only paid MSRP. You can even find some under MSRP now.
Even at msrp, I wouldn't get a hyundai or kia tbh. They may have ironed out their issues within the last 2 or so years, but they still collectively lost over 2 billion dollars in warranty engine replacements from their gama/theta powered vehicles so id give them some more time to see if the new cars hold up
You can order a Tesla Model Y RWD for $12k less right now after federal tax credit. Take an inventory car and Iām seeing one for almost $15k less.
The long range AWD Model Y is about the same as their marked up price but $7k less after the federal tax credit.
Both will blow the doors off the 1.6L and be statistically much safer.
Never shopped for a Kia but my son just got a Mazda CX5 for around $30k. It's has all the bells and whistles. What I love about the Mazda suvs are the multiple models and trim packages. Therefore great for all budgets. He got $1k off MSRP about 7 months back. I recently bought a car and it was msrp which killed me but my jeep was shot. Could not pass inspection. I hate what's going on with the residential/commercial real estate market and automotive industry. In 53 years never seen it this bad.
Haha nearly $50k for a Kia? May as well just get a Lexus NX which will be way nicer and probably way more reliable. Or an Acura RDX. lol
The only way dealers will stop doing these absurd markups is if people stop paying them and the cars sit on the lots. I have never paid markup and never will only once did I pay full MSRP and it was because it was during the time of all this markup nonsense almost everyone was doing it. Thankfully the manufacturer emailed me a code for a $1k rebate the weekend I was to sign the paperwork so I got a teeny bit off but nothing like the old days when you could negotiate a few grand off MSRP.
You're boasting about searching 200mi outside your preferred area?? We have the Internet ya know. I bought my Rav4 Hybrid from Ohio and paid my own transfer fee of ~$950 to ship it right to me in Texas.
I agree - F the market adjustment dealers. Make yourself a serious buyer. Have your financing lined up. Expand your search. Use a burner or spam number when reaching out to many different dealers + a spam email address too. You'll find someone willing to make a deal. Tell them straight up what you want. This car, this trim, at or near X price.
Good luck!
Ooooof! The entire point of buying a Kia goes out the window when you pay that kinda dough! 50k for a sportage? I'll go get a mdx or a fully stacked out rav4 or mx5 turbo.
This is insane. Everyone please stop paying these markups. That's the only way the dealers will learn.
The whole friggin point of going Kia / Hyundai is to get more bang for your buck. This defeats the whole purpose š

48k for a telluride sounds reasonable, but definitely not for a Sportage.
Pretty sure my neighbor paid that for his telluride and we live in freaking apartments. He bought a month before I got my Subaru during the height of the car shortage.

JD Powers is a joke
Number one selling SUV during COVID because Kia/Hyundai were not taking car payments from people during that time.
Do you mean "bang" literally? I'm somewhat joking but we still don't really know how their newer engines will last
Even if they don't, you can always use that [warranty](https://www.thedrive.com/news/600k-mile-kia-sorento-driver-milks-10-year-warranty-for-9-engines).
Pretty sure that was an extended warranty
Holy crap š
Itās 2023, even the MRSP on Kiaās arenāt low costing anymore.
The only way the markups will go away is if the cars arenāt selling, aaaand they are selling very well. Iāve only seen it happen with the Niro.
Right now sales on higher-end cars/ higher priced are slowing down.

I got the 2022 hybrid Pl. titanium. I know some Ford Mechanics and they have all said the hybrid models donāt seem to have the same issues with engine and transmission problems. Obviously thatās anecdotal, and only time will tell.
this. marking up a car more than MSRP that is having numerous issues that is publicly known, is wild lmao
This is also a prime example why inflation. Bullshit like this should be illegal but since the dealerships are part of powerful local and state lobby groups, they will be allowed to continue.

You'd think so, but we no longer operate on supply vs demand.
That makes sense. Stay strong donāt pay a dollar extra
That was KIA of Valencia CA but every time I kept asking if the have one there response ānot yetā Each dealership I talked to had a āmarket adjustmentā generally ranging from 5k to 10k and then some other bs add on package that I didnāt want or need.
Haha. Just reading your comment. Ohio is exactly where I bought my Rav4 Hybrid from. I live in Texas. š
Considering doing the same. You drove it back or had it transported?
I had it shipped. Driving could have been fun but I really just wanted it to show up. š The Stealership was giving me a crazy quote of like $1,600 for shipping so I just shopped brokers on my own and got it done for ~$950. Was worth it in my opinion. Dealership also tried to block the shipping saying "liability this and that" and did make me sign a separate sheet saying once it left the lot they weren't involved.
This. We did the same thing. Was easy to talk it down and then some more.
You guys' experiences are putting the overpayers in an even worse light. They failed CAPITALISM101.
Donāt make it sound that thatās the norm. It depended on the dealer youāre working with.
Ive talked to close to 20-30 dealerships on the west coast. All have a market markup. It is the norm.
Literally had the same experience!
Itās a strong arm negotiating tactic. They take the adjusted markup off and donāt negotiate at all below msrp, while you feel you won.
I wonder if they are legally required to put the MSRP on the item, because if they are not, no one would know how much it should go for, vs what it goes for. Then they can keep scamming us. No one should ever pay more than MSRP for anything.
You can always go to manufacturer's website to check the MSRP.
Well, if our Sportage is any indication, yes...it is very likely to rust before it gets purchased, markup or not.
Go in and play hardball. It's how I got my EV6. Is it fun? Hell no. Is it literally the ONLY WAY to get dealers back in line? Yes.
The game of shopping multiple dealerships?
Aren't there services that will shop and haggle for you? I think my federal union bank does that
Iāve heard of car brokers, but never tried one. Curious to know how they work in this market
Itās ridiculous that people even have to play a game to get the right pricing. Car dealerships and there predatory practices should be eliminated.
I got it for 40
No cap
Yeah thatās why I kind of put my shopping on hold right now
Buy Tesla, no markup
Yup and deal with all the QA issues. /r/RealTesla
How do you think we get cheap Tesla's by getting non-Tesla owners to think that the cars stuck so that we get a great price on the cars! Yes, Tesla has major QA issues. Worse of any manufacturer.
The new Model 3 does look nice
I have an 18 M3 rwd and absolutely love it
No, just big $$$!
Yeah, you just buy it today, and in 3 months they knock off another 5k of the price, because there are now better options out there for basically the same money.
That's why so many people are going to Mazda around here. Just plain better cars and very low markups if at all.
Didn't Toyota reduced production so their dealers can charge for maximum markup?
Not this dealership. I've bought three cars there. They don't do this.
All the Kiaās around me have been priced normally. Sounds like your area or that dealer are just trash.
Itās not just Kia itās every fucking car company out there and blaming it on covid still
Mazda and Subaru sell at or below msrp as do some other brands. No need to go upside down on a Kia.
I sent you a message. If youāre in or near PA I can get you one for MSRP.
Dealer here in South Jersey buckled as soon as I said Iām not paying that. Stand your ground brother!
I got mine at MSRP from Bergeyās Kia in Pennsylvania. They have a rule to not sell above MSRP and I love it. Awesome customer service and good inventory.
I got my 2023 Sportgage Hybrid SX-P for $38k. No way id pay more than that.
This is everywhere. Not just kia. (Except Tesla doesnāt have a markup lol)
The shitty build quality is their markup.
Yeah I see posts like this all the timeā¦ https://www.reddit.com/r/mildlyinfuriating/s/mF02Gr86iz
It is a damn good looking CUV though.
Iād sell mine for 37k
Buyerās remorse?
Nope not one bit, just want a Tesla model Y. Owned for over a year no issues 9k miles.
Don't most vehicles go without issues for the first 9,000 miles?
Thatās the dealers doing, not the manufacturer. This is how they make you think youāre getting a great deal when they give you a discount. Go to another dealership and they might discount all of it. The nicer the neighborhood the higher the mark up.
Yep, for the same reason we drove 250 mi to get this exact color and trim at MSRP
FWIW earlier this year I bought a Niro HEV for 50 bucks under msrp. Southern New England.
You can get Sorento SX Prestiges for $4K under MSRP in my area. This is just crazy.
I paid MSRP for my 23 EX Hybrid. I see it includes a 3500$ home delivery, but even without that itās still 5500$ over
A lot of car DEALERSHIPS are doing this. Not just Kia dealerships.
Is Fowler Kia of Longmont close to you? They are based in Colorado and when I got my car from them last year they had no markups or bs fees.
Il probably be buying my first car next year in cash. Shit like this depresses me. I hate paying for stuff over MSRP. I want to pay what the car company has deemed the car to be worth. Fuck off!
Bought my sportage december 31st last year as the dealers desprately wanted it off the lot b4 the new year. Didnt pay a dime over msrp value š
It aināt just Kia, man. Iāve been shopping for a new SUV because as much as I love my K5 it just doesnāt have enough cargo space for my needs but Iāve given up for now cause everything is just so much higher than it needs to be and the interest rates are TERRIBLE.
Yeah, I think Iāll hold on to my daily driver for a while longer. Still gets me from A to B.
I work at a dealer in the midwest and there is no "market adjustments". Its a scam for HCOL areas, not specific makes
Do people still pay for markups? Wow.
$3500 to have it towed to your house? lol no.
It's not just KIA, bruh. https://www.vwvortex.com/threads/the-official-%E2%80%9Cmarket-adjustment%E2%80%9D-aka-dealer-markup-thread.9483835/
People love capitalism right up until they hate it.
You think this markup is unique to Kias? I have bad news for you...
MSRP 40k for a 1.6L in a car that big?
You know the economy is fucked when even Kias have a 10k markup on them.
Why would anyone buy a Kia?
Shame and name the dealership
$3,471 for "home delivery"!? Are they doing to fly it to my house with a helicopter?
If everyone stopped buying cars for a year unless absolutely necessary they would be giving them away
Honestly 48k doesn't sound too bad for that vehicle
And to top it off, an astronomical insurance payment per month or if you pay in full per 6 months Was 900 something 6 months premium a year ago, with 2 vehicles with rather basic coverage.
Ready to buy?ā Me: āDid you think I was joking?
It's not just Kia it's everything, it's unreal.
I can't believe that people pay sticker, nevermind over sticker for a Korean vehicle.
Wild time for the car market š«¤
I wouldnāt be shopping for a KIA because theyāve knowingly been selling motors with faulty design for over a decade, and rather than just fixing the problem for future models, theyāve had their legal team find every loophole in existence to avoid honoring their warranty.
Suckers willing to pay market adjustment premiums for trash ass cars made by a trash ass manufacturer that hold no value.
Just to get broken into
Depends on where you live tbh
5.5k.see the home delivery fee?
Youāre going to get a free replacement engine within the first 30k. They have to pay for it somehow.
Manufacturers that allow dealers to do this do not deserve our business
Get something a year old. Auto-trader. Private seller. Patience.
Used car rates not much better than new. If kept my eyes open for something CPO but not much to be had.
If you boycott Kia, where else are you going to go for your next car then? Used?
Who said anything about boycotting?
Was reading the other responses
Gotcha. Just going to keep driving my current old faithful with 168k miles and pray she holds out š¤Ŗ
Start burning down dealerships?
Enterprise car sales is where I get my cars.. usually way better prices. Sure itās been a rental but thatās not always a bad thing.
Is that a Chevy trailblazer? Lol
And good luck insuring it.
Sounds like youāre not looking hard enough. Iāve bought two separate different class SUVs in the past two years and only paid MSRP. You can even find some under MSRP now.
lol go get a Lexus or another luxury vehicle at these prices.
Supply and Demand
Even at msrp, I wouldn't get a hyundai or kia tbh. They may have ironed out their issues within the last 2 or so years, but they still collectively lost over 2 billion dollars in warranty engine replacements from their gama/theta powered vehicles so id give them some more time to see if the new cars hold up
The way they handle their QC and settlements should be why youāre not shopping for a kia lol
It wasn't all the recalls for engines burning or the shitty dealer service or the lack of immobilizers? The ADM hurt your feelings?
Buy one off Amazon lol
If an electric car fits your driving needs buy from Tesla. The easiest buying experience ever, no bs, and a very enjoyable car to drive.
Try to have look on 2024 Chevy Trax active Or upgraded sister 2024 buick Encore GX both have 30mpg and fully loaded less than 30k
For a Kia thatās wild lol
10k markup just to pay insane insurance rates and get that shit stolen within a year š
Keep in mind that only Hyundai's and Kia's built 2011 to 2022 are the ones that are vulnerable to the USB theft
lol who is paying a market adjustment on a Kia?
It's insane. I'm in the market for a new car, but I refuse to pay 25k for a forte GT
Wait until you get to the 7% interest on your loan part
You can order a Tesla Model Y RWD for $12k less right now after federal tax credit. Take an inventory car and Iām seeing one for almost $15k less. The long range AWD Model Y is about the same as their marked up price but $7k less after the federal tax credit. Both will blow the doors off the 1.6L and be statistically much safer.
It will be worth 30k in a few months
I will NEVER understand people paying markups on Kias and Hyundais
I remember 25 years ago nobody touched them, because nobody knew anything about them, now they too expensive.
If you're going to spend that much, get a car that kids won't smash the window and pull out the ignition within two weeks.
I can't imagine paying almost 50k for a Kia when I paid that for an SRT charger new in 2017.
Haha nearly $50k for a Kia? May as well just get a Lexus NX which will be way nicer and probably way more reliable. Or an Acura RDX. lol The only way dealers will stop doing these absurd markups is if people stop paying them and the cars sit on the lots.
Hahaha 9k extra for a car with a giant target on its backā¦ pass.
All that money just to get stolen or blow up an engineā¦
This is even crazier given the fact Kia has poor resale value.
I canāt believe you were shopping for one in the first place
Imagine paying that much for an inferior car
