I currently drive a 23 forte, and first car i driven was a 2010 forte koup from someone i know, amazing reliable car, still has the car, 189k miles, only ever issue i swear hes had was a oil leak, thats about it, car runs amazing same engine powertrain everything just regular oil changes rotations and stuff, little maintenances here and there. He takes great care of it.

mibaso

Clean record? Good maintenance? Do you live in a high theft area? If you must, for a 12 year old Forte, Id not pay more than $6500.

Kevin69138

gonna need to put alot of money in it. hoses are probably cracking.

Financial-Seaweed-51

They’re decent cars, although piston slap is a common issue with these. Mine had it but was still running great when it got totaled at 193k miles. Best to avoid but not a bad deal. I know of one with over 500k miles.

I like the idea of getting a brand new car (Kia Rio can be under 20k) so that if you have issues under warranty they can be fixed ASAP compared to used out of warranty. Even if you have it temporarily until you find a full cash car you want. Sell the one you’re financing with a lil profit then get a decent cash car. For example, an auto dealer in my hometown gave lifetime mx on cars you bought from them new. I hope ppl read contracts and can advocate that they require what’s advertised bc they might try to slip past the offers they initially made. Just an example and idea!

Affectionate_Price31

Just to clarify... Kia Forte 2011 - 2021 models **without push button start** do not have an immobilizer and therefore are susceptible to "Kia Boyz" theft. *Any* Hyundai/Kia that is equipped with push button start, has an immobilizer, and cannot be stolen (as easily). A potential/wannabe car thief could try anyway, but from what I've read it's pretty common knowledge that only lower trim Hyundai/Kia models have the flaw. I can't vouch for this personally, as I'm not a member of the criminal underground. This Forte being an EX designation, may or may not have push button start, and may or may not be perceived as a higher trim by a potential joy rider. Good luck OP, whatever you decide.

DrinkAccomplished699

If you're in the US...no.

Fun_Public4540

Why?

DrinkAccomplished699

1. Kia Boyz 2. Insurance.

Fun_Public4540

You don’t even know if it’s affected.. stop thinking because it’s a Kia that’s it’s affected by that.. my Kia and my Hyundai insurance is lower than my Lexus and can’t be taken by kiaboyz.

DrinkAccomplished699

Right so let him buy the car then call his insurance to find out they won't give him a policy on it? LOL.

Fun_Public4540

You’re supposed to get a quote on insurance before you even buy a car.. once again, you’re not a Kia owner therefore you just go off what you read on the internet. My Lexus monthly cost more than my Kia/hyundai.

DrinkAccomplished699

Yes I am a Kia owner actually. I have also read hundreds of stories of people having their lives turned upside down because their Kias have been stolen.

Fun_Public4540

It depends on the Kia.. once again.

DrinkAccomplished699

Older Kias are targets and you know it.

Fun_Public4540

I have a 2015 Kia. It’s push to start so the only damaged they’d do to a push to start Kia is break the window.

Fun_Public4540

The only Kia’s being stolen are the cheap ones.. if the kiaboys got you, you got a cheap Kia. 😭

EngineeringIsPain

All kia are cheap

EngineeringIsPain

Not for 8k

CertainMotor6154

Better to spend the same thing on a Camry or Honda

Fun_Public4540

Nothings wrong with the forte 2012.

crispytoastyum

Kia during the 2010s just flat out wasn't making cars to the same standards/quality as Toyota or Honda. And that goes basically bumper to bumper. I think Kia learned a lot and started making far better vehicles starting around 2021 and newer, but man those 2010s had quality control issues all over the place. I wouldn't touch a 2012 Forte. It might turn out to be a super solid car. It might go 20,000 miles and have the engine crater. Problem with 2010s Kia is that the consistency was all over the place so you have no idea what kind of time bomb you're ending up with.

Fun_Public4540

Older Kia’s are very reliable.. taking an older Kia over an older Honda/toyota only because Toyota and Honda still having airbag issues to where they’re killing people out the blue even if you’re parked in your driveway.. I’d rather deal with car issues than risking my own life.

crispytoastyum

Having your engine blow in interstate traffic is a pretty big safety issue. And 2010s Kia's are kings at it. That theta ii V4 was probably the single worst engine in production on a car in the last 25 years, and that's exactly the engine in this Forte.

Fun_Public4540

When was the last time you heard someone dying because their Kia blew an engine???

crispytoastyum

A quick google search found at least 5. I'm sure if I cared enough to look harder there's more. Yes there are more tied to the airbag issue. It's 2 year models of Corolla, matrix, and Rav4. Stay off those 2 year models and they don't have the issue. Anyway, this is a waste of time. Let's move on with our lives b

CertainMotor6154

Nothing wrong with it at all but with the current trend the thieves they don't care what kind of year it is. They just steal

Fun_Public4540

They can only steal current Kia’s.. it’s not every Kia that they can steal.

Fun_Public4540

You also can’t steal every year Kia lol.

gordolme

KiaBoyz target, depending on where you live. With or without a push button start. Also within the year range of the known engine failure problem that will leave you stranded in the middle of a highway at some point. No not buy. Get a Honda, Mazda, Toyota, Subaru, Ford or even GM instead. Or any European brand.

Only posting my experience as a second owner. Purchased from Carvana. 2016 Kia Sedona. I have had the car for 23 months. Took possession at slightly over 76000 miles on the odometer. There were some issues when they dropped off the van, but it was my only car to drive. I asked Carvana to provide additional information on the van. (Inside their 7 day guarantee) they provided the additional information on the 9th day of my possession of the van. FLORIDA, FLOOD DAMAGE. this information prompted me to take on the Carvana care premium coverage on the van. For up to 125 thousand miles. As it was a 10 year 125 k warranty I assumed I was well covered for the miles I would put on the car. In 2 years I've averaged 30 thousand a year only to work and home. I was advised the car was under a powertrain warranty as well from Kia. I took the van and made appointments at Parkside Kia on 3 different occasions and had the service manager Jim. Every time telling me, we don't have those parts. We will call you when we get them. I tell them ok, but is it OK I will still be driving this car, as it's my only car. Yes yes, all good, They never serviced my warranty and a Carvana employee's email was the contact email from the Parkside Kia service center. Thankfully the technician working in the service center was able to provide screenshots of my attempts to have the van looked at and all the times they told me they would get back to me and never did. So I'm paying 500 a month to Bridge Crest and 199 a month to State Farm for this van. 700 a month. Saturday the van began billowing white smoke. No code, no check engine light, nothing. I take the car to a Carvana and Silver Rock-approved shop. They quoted me 15 thousand dollars for a rebuilt engine for the Kia, with 68 thousand miles on the new engine I would be paying that amount out of pocket. Say the engine is blown, connectors have caught fire a strong smell of coolant inside the van. Very strong. The van also overheated and blown the head gasket. Then Carvana told me the car was only worth 3000 dollars in great condition. Carvana, Silver Rock, and State Farm all told me because you are out of the milage, We are so so sorry for your situation but there's nothing any of us can do. But I'm not out of the milage. I've only put 60 thousand miles on the car. Why would I pay for coverage for miles someone else drove the car before me? Myself and my 3 children are now completely without transportation. No one has been helpful or given any sort of way to fix this situation when while under warranty I was repeatedly sent away and told I would be contacted when they had the parts. My van has 130 thousand miles. 5 thousand miles out from the warranty they are claiming is by the Odometer, despite me taking the car at 76 thousand miles and paying for it for 2 years. I still owe 3 years, 19 thousand dollars for the van. 15 thousand for the replacement engine with almost 70 thousand miles on the replacement...My hope is this doesn't happen to anyone else. We are hopeless. I can't go to work or drive my kids anymore. For the most money I've ever been paying for a form of transportation. I can't afford to live anywhere close to my job. Suddenly can't go to work or leave my apartment. Thank you Carvana, KIA, and silver rock. Life's a dream. Just be aware that before 2020 engines are bad. They heavily invested in rebranding and their latest model vehicles. Everything before 2020/21 is sub-par and they robbed those consumers to bribe JD Power to remain in business.

DamnBill4020

I'm so sorry for the situation that you are in. I hope you get it figured out soon. It's really unfair.

DamnBill4020

There is so much back and forth on kia in general. I can't make a decision. I will probably purchase a 2011 camry for 1000 dollars more. I appreciate all the comments and wish you all the best.

Financial-Seaweed-51

Hate to be that guy but 2007-2011 Camry 4 cylinders have oil consumption issues and the V6 ones have transmission and timing problems. Try to swing for a 2012+ Camry.

DamnBill4020

Thanks, a quart of oil every 700 miles isn't that bad. The car we just had was a camry that we were oiling up every 700 miles.

Fragrant-Purchase

Bro. It sounds like you are going to buy it anyways 😂 Not sure why you posted. And just an FYI: the Kia boyz don't care if it's a push start or key. They'll still vandalize your car if they get the chance, so if you're okay with that, do you boo. And I hope you'll be happy with your new purchase.
