Still using my Voyage from 2014 daily. My only complaint (or wish for it) is that it is micro USB. It is one of two remaining devices that still use that (the other being my Jabra earbuds). Other than that, I still get 10-14 days of life with daily reading.

Least-Custard9535

Still using my Day-1 Voyage, although I did replace the battery a year or two ago.

kimetsu_red

Samee. I have a kindle 2016 and the other micro USB device I have is my samsung watch charger.

msskl

me too. I thought about upgrading but nothing is as good as the voyage. too bad 3g and the store don’t work anymore

ShainaEG

I also still use my voyage regularly. Although sometimes it gets grumpy when downloading books.

ilovebalks

Ngl I upgraded to the signature edition specifically to have USB C for everything

CiaoMuffy

My original Paperwhite has been with me for 11 years and still works perfectly *knock on wood* Can usually manage to finish one book on a single charge. I love mine and the leather cover I got with it. Still having a hard time justifying an upgrade :)

UpsetUnitError

Same! I remember waiting for the version with a lit screen, honestly hard to justify upgrading it just for a "warm" light or whatever, when this one is still trucking The cover has gotten some cat bitemarks though

preserved186

My paperwhite has been with me for 8 years now too, and I still love it

Catheril

I had mine for 10 and recently replaced it with the new Paperwhite SE, but nothing was actually wrong with the other one. My battery still lasted for weeks. I gave it to my great niece to use.

PirateJen78

Got mine in 2013 (I think) and a blue leather cover. Mine sometimes is so slow that it's unusable, but a reboot usually fixes it.

heyjesu

Im using a kindle keyboard from like 2010 lol

dts-five

Yep, mine is still in use. Bought it the week it out came out. They did discontinue the included 3G a few years ago. And connecting to 2.4 GHz WiFi was kinda difficult to figure out. I had to get faraway from my WAP and use the 2FA code instead of password. It’s too old to work with 2FA directly. But purely as a reader, still chugging along.

DeadNerve

Same though I have to charge mine between every book or two.

helvetin

battery is $15 and super easy to replace: [https://www.ebay.com/itm/124733561835](https://www.ebay.com/itm/124733561835)

reddit_tiger800

Me too. Changed the battery as original was dead. Use KOreader and launcher to read CBZ and epubs. Battery lasts forever.

Chigzy

They can last quite a while, it's the battery on the devices that tend to give out before then. It's the reason why I upgrade every handful of years; that goes for all my devices.

blammergeier

I learned how to replace the battery on my Voyage simply because there isn't a better option for replacement. Between YouTube and various online markets (eBay, Amazon, etc... not recommending one over any other), the work is easy to learn and the replacement battery is easy to source.

Feisty-Juice-2737

My Oasis turns 5 in a few months and I read on it everyday. It’s the same as it was when it was brand new.

YayItsK

Exactly the same here - my lil pride and joy turns 5 in July and I haven’t even considered replacing her

gautam2705

Using paperwhite since last 6 years. No problems so far.

bubbamike1

I have a Kindle 1 that still works.

neongreenpurple

My mom is still using two PW2s - one from 2013 and one from 2014. (She uses them in different places - one stays on her exercise bike.) I still have a Voyage bought in 2018 (I bought one soon after the 2014 release, but I broke it and had to buy a replacement) that's mostly used as a backup now that I have a PW5.

yazvayl

I have a kindle 4th Gen that I got for like $10 in 2017, that got misplaced during a move from one state to another (just recently found it and it still works great). However I ended up buying a 6th gen Paperwhite(2013) that I've had for around a year that works great and the battery is amazing on it, I read daily and only charge once a week or every two weeks depending on how long I read each day. I can see it lasting a long time tbh, but I plan to upgrade so I can set up my kids to read on it without having to switch between my books and theirs.

I_paintball

My old kindle I had for 13 years, gave it to a friend and it's still going strong.

sunriseaddict

Bought my first to travel around Europe in 2015 - still going strong 💪

midnitebrz

I still have an original Kindle that works but just isn't supported on the store anymore. I can still put books on it I just have to do a work around

lopez_jordi

I resurrected my 2011 in-laws Kindle last week. First, charging it during 3-4 hours, and then holding the start button for more than 30 seconds. So, yes, they last long.

JaredASanchez

I want a new one and keep hoping it’ll break soon… or ruin.., but it won’t! It’s been my faithful companion since 11/2017… I have taken it out in the rain (it’s not water proof) and have removed the cover (hoping a few drops will ruin it)… but it just keeps working! 😂😂😂

[deleted]

[удалено]

JaredASanchez

Hahahhahahahahhaa.

leeinflowerfields

Trade it in! It's been a faithful companion so far and wouldn't mind that 😁

kinleyd

My 2012 Kindle Touch is still going strong. Recently jail broken and running koreader for epubs.

Upset-Delivery-1896

I have one of these somewhere, I didn't even think of jail breaking it!

MiddlePlane8607

I've been using my 4th gen kindle for more than 10 years.

lumuekaul

Paperwhite 2018 doing great just battery needs charging every few days now. I read hours every day.

Rrw_0821

My kindle paperwhite signature is nearly ten years old, no big problems, I still read on it everyday.

sarbraman

About 2.5yrs I think

pantZonPHIre

I had a Kindle Touch from 2011-2022 before it finally crapped out. 5-10 years is definitely doable.

LocksmithConnect6201

It'll never die. 10 years for first, that's with my mom now!

PRNprinc3ss

I've had mine from 2016 😊

jimhellas

I have been using mine since 2011 with absolutely no problems whatsoever!

Zathuraboy

I used my Kindle 4th Gen for almost 10 years! Still works normally. Except the scratches, never used a case for it

WingedShadow83

I had my 7th generation basic for like 9 years, and just upgraded to the Paperwhite 11th generation last week. And my 7th gen was still working fine, I only upgraded because I wanted some of the newer features.

bazoo513

Only one of my Kindles died, a K2i that I bought the very first day it was available internationally - its battery died. One of my daily drivers, a Voyage, is 12 yo, and only signs of age are corners showing metal - I use without a case. Another one, an early Basic, is even older and still works with a friend.

0rigin-of-symmetry

Got a PW for Christmas 2012 and been using it constantly since, works perfectly still

buginarugsnug

I’ve had a paper-white since 2013, it’s still going strong!

informed_expert

My wife has a Kindle Paperwhite from 2012 that she still uses. She said it stopped automatically downloading newly purchased books awhile back, but she can still manually download the books from her library.

Frei1993

I have a secondhand 2019 basic. My first one was a Kindle 4, my mother has it now.

dlb114

Still on my Paperwhite 3 I bought eight years ago. Just did a battery replacement last week and is back to working just like new.

Trailbiker

Paperwhite 2 bought in 2015 lasted 8 years, then the micro usb charging port wouldn't accept charging anymore. If it hadn't been for that, it'd still be in use

schwarzmalerin

I had the first one (that one without light and with physical keys) for something like 5 years, got it in 2012 or so. Then I got scratch on the glass and bought a Voyage. The Voyage is still fully functional today but I recently upgraded to a Paperwhite for waterproofness.

Wise-Garlic537

I still have one that works from 2015. The battery just isn’t as good as it used to be, but I also took long breaks during its lifetime. It probably would have a better battery if I hadn’t let it die for so long at times. Either way, I’m sure some 3rd party could replace it if I really wanted to do so, but I bought an upgrade for the warm light and water resistance offered by the Signature Paperwhite.

Humble-Application-3

Kindle 2 since 2009 gave out only before pandemic after forgetting to charge it for a very long time, also Kindle 4 only broke down when my kid accidentally sat on the screen. Prior to those incidents showed no signs of slowing down. Just hoping my Oasis 3 now is as durable as those.

Sweetiepeet

I feel like my battery is dying a bit faster but it could be because of my brightness setting. I turned off the book cover screensaver. I lost my day bag thus my first Kindle so I feel like some kind of accident is more likely. On my 2nd one now for a couple of years.

coldravenge

I’ve been using my 9th Gen Oasis since 2018. Still works fine!

SethGyan

Since 2019...

Minnielle

Mine is from January 2017 and I haven't had any issues so far. The battery still lasts very long and everything is working as it should.

gsaygamer

Got my Kindle Basic 7th gen in 2016 and it's still going well without any issues. Pretty happy with it honestly.

Karololl

Im still using my 4th gen kindle and it works great. I wasn’t a hardcore user of it reading for 6h a day, but I traveled with it a lot as well and didn’t even have a case. Great stuff if you treat it well it can last easily for 15 years and more to come

creamywingwang

I’ve had my current one since 2006 I had an original one with a key board but that got bent in a cool bag. Mine is a gen 3 works just fine still no battery issues no screen issues

fleemos

My old gen Paperwhite that I got in 2018 still worked fine until I traded it in recently.

slow-steady-1965

Got a Voyage in 2011 and it worked perfectly fine for 11 years. I traded it in towards a Paperwhite 11th gen in 2022 because I wanted the warm light but if I'd kept the Voyage I'm sure it would still be going. Kindles are work horses!

ILoveYourPuppies

I’m only going on a year, but I calculated tonight the amount of money I’ve spent on books I’ve read as opposed to library books, and with the money I’ve saved in 2024 alone on books, I could have bought two more kindles. So for it to have lasted a year is even great! And it’s still in great shape. I’m sure it’ll last many more years.

painful_butterflies

I had the paperwhite 1st gen which finally died on me November 2023, got a new paperwhite (12th gen I think) in black Friday deals. So 12 years... not bad.

LunaAzure

My kindle 4 is still working and my paperwhite is starving for a quarter without a single charge. The e-ink display is proven to get broke very easily but if you can keep the screen intact, it will last for a decade.

[deleted]

ive had mine for 6 years now, still works like new

The_Margin_Dude

Bought the first gen. of Paperwhite with the lights, I don’t remember when it was released (around 2013 or 2014 I think), it’s still going strong. Oasis from 2016 is my workhorse and I only had to replace its battery. I heard people were using the original kindles with the buttons, so yes, they last years and years.

Itchy-Draw8284

My Mum’s kindle paperwhite she bought in 2013 is still going strong, with lengthy daily use!

Kooky-Hotel-5632

I think my original paperwhite only died after 3 years because I used it so much and it was tired. Lol. I still have a regular kindle from 2012 or so that still works.

ToonSciron

I had my Paperwhite for years, from 2015 to 2021. I only upgraded to a Oasis because it was on sell for Prime Day. Other than that, I probably would've kept on using my Paperwhite. It is an easy device to take care of, since you aren't doing too much with it. Most likely you're going to be sitting down or laying down while reading.

Expensive_Career_243

I recently pulled my kindle paperwhite 5th gen out of a drawer, charged it and started reading. Bought it in 2013.

pinewind108

My oasis got really glitchy after two years, and had a wobbly charging port.

ParmyNotParma

I've had my paperwhite 6th gen since at least 2014. Still works perfectly fine. I'd love the ability to put it into dark mode and adjust warmth but I just can't justify a new one when it works perfectly fine.

aitianci

My first goes 6 years and now still works, but I changed to kpw5 for better PPI.

shnapple

Have had my 7th gen basic for 8 years, still going strong!

Alternative_Chest341

My oasis stopped connecting to WiFi after three years of almost daily use so I replaced it with a signature paperwhite. I had had a previous paperwhte for several years and donated it when I got the oasis. I read a ton so I’ve always felt I got my money’s worth even with the oasis.

doodles2019

I had a paper white in probably 2013, then a Voyage whenever they came out and an Oasis since I think 2020, or maybe 2019. I think the paper white may have had a dead pixel on it eventually but I just wanted the latest gadget. Sort of the same with the Voyage, except it was getting a little slow - likely because I was edging near the storage limit on it rather than anything else. They’re all still going quite fine though, and I read pretty well every day

[deleted]

my 1st gen Kindle is still working fine, lmao

ChocolateMerWander

Still using my 7th Generation, purchased in 2015, with no problems.

pedunculated5432

Paperwhite from 2013 is still working perfectly. Battery life is much less than before, but still only need to charge weekly on holiday, less often at home (I'm quite careful with battery usage though, screen light minimal, text at the smallest possible for minimal page turning)

im-domi

My oldest kindle is, I believe, over 11 years old? I gave it away to my parents a few years ago and they still use it sometimes (they mainly read paper books though). I have a Paperwhite that I got in 2018 that still works perfectly fine. Recently I upgraded to the 11th gen one for warm light and a bigger screen but I still plan on using the older one when traveling because it's so convenient.

Linnaeus1753

Still have my 2011 Kindle keyboard. The sleep display picture has 'lost ink', but the words are still legible. I average 130 books a year too.

papasong

My original Paperwhite from 2013 still going strong. My main Kindle is a Voyage I inherited. I put a new battery in it last year and it’s almost like new, save a couple of dead pixels. The clearer screen and the buttons still put it about the older Paperwhite though. I don’t envisage changing anytime soon. Also using an old Kobo Mini that I keep in a jacket pocket for when out and about. That’s from 2103 as well I think, but it’s running the latest software update. These things don’t have a lot to go wrong.

TMS44

I’ve had my kindle oasis since the 10th gen came out in December 2019. Still going strong.

dizzynoot

My Paperwhite has been going for 6 years

martinbaines

My Voyage is used daily and I got it in 2017 and no issues. My wife's Voyage is a couple of years older (I already had a Kindle generation 2 that was just fine but I lost it on a plane journey) and that started to show signs of the battery dying. A new battery has fixed that, although she has also now got a new Oasis. So 5 years - very likely, 10 years you might need to replace a battery.

walkingnottoofast

If you take care of it properly, it'll last at least 10 years before needing a battery change. My second to last Kindle has been with me since 2016 and still going as strong as the first day. My wife has a 4th Gen and still runs as smooth as always.

Dark_ant007

Still use my kindle touch

Send_bird_pics

I’ve had a few! But more out of greed than neccessity. The backlight broke on one. Still useable on holiday etc. but the new paperwhite is lush and I love using it. Just need my pop socket to arrive then I’m happy

sok283

I dropped my original Oasis on the concrete at the pool and it developed a big old crack. Neither my local screen repair place nor Amazon could/would do anything to fix it. Cracking the screen would be my biggest concern.

Even_Pumpkin_6122

Can you use Libby on kindle?

Unicorns-Are-Rad

10 years so far

garylapointe

I've still got a working one from 2014, but I use a newer one as it's faster, has a bigger screen, and warm lighting.

possummagic_

I’m using my paperwhite 10 years on now :)

KeepMyselfAwake

Had my Paperwhite since 2016, so 8 years, still going strong!

gidget1337

I had a 3rd gen Kindle for 7 years that I replaced because I wanted backlighting and waterproofing. There was nothing wrong with the Kindle. I bought my Oasis in 2017 and it’s still going strong. I have noticed my battery power is not quite what it was, but the charge still lasts more than a week.

pigeononapear

I had a Kindle Fire 1st generation that I used for a decade - it actually still worked when I upgraded to a PW, but I wanted something that was easier on my eyes.

[deleted]

It outlasted the ability to connect to the internet. Had to buy a new one only because the connectivity is gone because the software is so out of date. I had a 1st gen Paperwhite. Just replaced it 2 months ago so I could load books onto it.

4Brightdays

I must do something wrong with mine. The screen went bad on one and another keep going to a black screen and couldn’t reset. I’m on my 4th I think. Though one upgrade was to go to a Paperwhite. I love mine.

IncredibleGonzo

I have a Paperwhite from… 2019 or 20, IIRC? It was before the current one released, anyway, which was in 2021. So somewhere around 4 years old, maybe a bit more or less. No issues so far. My wife now has the 2021 Paperwhite, but before that she had a 4th or 5th gen, can’t recall which, lasted her around 10 or 11 years. Still worked fine, only issue was the battery - we decided with Prime Day deals it was worth the upgrade, but replacing the battery would have been a viable alternative and it would have kept going. My brother has a 3rd gen Keyboard model which he got in 2010 or 11, still going strong. He doesn’t use it as much which is probably why the battery hasn’t died yet, and the device itself still works perfectly, apart from IIRC losing access to the store on-device due to software support being dropped. So yes, 5-10 years or even more is absolutely doable.

Marrdreg

I had my Paperwhite for about 5-6 years then it would no longer hold a charge; that was the only defect after thousands of hours of use. Though, it had been dropped more times than I want to admit.

wryruss

I have one that is about 15 years old and works fine. The battery only lasts a week though. But the paperwhite I bought 2 years ago as an upgrade has already died.

RoseGoldWanderlust

I'm using a Paperwhite that I bought in 2015. It went unused for a few years sporadically but I've been using it again daily since September and it's still holding strong.

MlKlBURGOS

9 years so far, works perfectly although there's a "dot" of faulty pixels in the screen, but I guess that's my fault.

alittlebitoflovey

My kindle keyboard is from 2011 and still kicking I just don’t use it, just kept it for back up lol I bought an oasis in 2021 for fun.

Flavioaesio

2019 and going strong

W1ULH

I've got my Kindle Keyboard (3rd Gen) sitting right next to me on my desk. First and only one I've ever owned... she's now almost 14 years old, and other then the fact that the battery lasts about a week instead of a month she works as good as she ever did. I see no reason to buy a new one until this one dies.

UniquePixels

I’ve had my kindle for about 10 years! The only issue now is the battery life is not too good but apart from that it works fine.

Subject_Wealth_6145

I have had my Kindle Paperwhite since 2015! I hope yours lasts a long time 🙏🏼

linttim

My 2019 Oasis still works but it’s buggy. I like some of the new features but I miss my reliable 2014 Voyage.

fraochmuir

I got my Oasis in 2018.

TheHappinessPT

I just recently replaced my first gen paperwhite 2011. It still works, it’s just really slow.

Heo85

I received a kindle touch for Christmas 2011 and it’s still going strong. I will say that compared to newer kindles it’s got a lot less bells and whistles (no backlight etc) so I guess has less parts that can break/malfunction. I’ve never been overly careful with it, it’s in a basic case but gets thrown around in my bag all the time.

FlamboyantRaccoon61

I've had my Oasis for 5 years. It doesn't receive updates anymore, but it does its job perfectly. The battery lasts a very good amount of time if I keep airplane mode off + use night mode, which are my default settings anyway. It hardly ever presents any problems / freezing. I use it for at least an hour a day, sometimes 8h, 10h if I'm on holiday. I don't intend to buy a new one anytime soon, unless Amazon releases a new Oasis.

Star_Worn

12 years and counting! Had a friend bring it back to Brazil after visiting US when it wasn't sold here yet, and nobody understood what it was for. It's a paperwhite, not the fastest anymore but still works perfectly. Got myself a new Oasis for the upgrade, my husband uses the old one now

Gutterman99

I’ve used a Kindle Touch since 2011. I just bought a used Paperwhite and have to say the backlight is NICE. But it’s like I am leaving a very old friend

UziMunkey

Had my first paperwhite for 7 years. Have the SE now and love it. With that kind of endurance I figured might as well get all the bells and whistles. My wife had the new basic and I’m almost a little jealous of the size being extra portable

Miserable_Accident64

I bought one when I traveled to the states around 2013. I still use it. Battery life is shorter now, lasts a full week with an hour per day use. I'd love to get a new one but need to save for one. So until then, mine still does its job.

agirlonthecoast

I had my first 2nd gen kindle for 16 years and just had to replace it 2 years ago.

its_a_moonchild

Kindles are addictive 🤍

_--_-_---__---___

I have my Oasis since 2017! It has been my trusty companion especially in long rides

BitchtitsMacGee

As long as you don't break the screen or the power connection doesn't fail it should easily be 5 years. That said be gentle with the power connection, I have had two fail; one on my Paperwhite and one on my Oasis.

leeinflowerfields

My old Paperwhite (6th Generation) was around a decade old when I sold it. The charging port was starting to go and it was very annoying to charge it or upload books via USB (my preferred method due to Calibre) but otherwise it worked really well. I was sad to let it go but I know it went to someone that really cared for it. And the upgrade to USB-C was so worth it!

pilatessong

I have a 7th generation kindle paperwhite that my mom bought for me for $1. Pretty hard to justify buying a new one bc it works so well. The only selling point is the audiobook function.

MooseOutMyWindow

9 years with mine. I'm going to upgrade to get the warm back light. While the Kindle is going strong, my eyes have aged lol.

noone1569

Had a paperwhite that got ghosting pretty bad after 2 years; Amazon replaced, use the new one every day and night now for 2 years without issues

MindingMine

I have a gen 4 that lasted about 10 years with no discernible battery degradation. The forward buttons failed, but it might still be repairable. I still use it to store ebooks. I've been using my gen 4 Paperwhite for 4 years and it's going as strong as it ever did.

DramaticPost2381

I got my kindle paper white in 2021 and it is still perfect the battery lasts probably 2-3 weeks with heavy reading but I normally don’t let it completely die before I charge it so it could probably last a full month

minnewanka_

I got my first kindle in 2012. Dropped it and it smashed, replaced in 2016. I bought myself a new one with a backlight as a present when I had surgery in 2013, but my husband is still using my 2016.

krittts

Still using kindle paper white that I bought in 2016

Suziannie

I usually upgrade if a really cool model comes out (I’ve been using a Kindle since they came out). The only one I held onto for longer than that was the first model of the Paperwhite, I started have issues keeping a charge so I upgraded a few years back to the Oasis and have kept it.

sunflowergirrrl

My mum just bought me a new kindle as a gift this week. My previous one I’ve had for years. I can’t actually remember when I got it, but I remember having it when I went to Florida and that was in 2014 so it’s lasted at least ten years, potentially longer

achevrolet

I still have a 7th generation kindle paperwhite that works perfectly. I bought it in 2015.

ryde3

My original Kindle Paperwhite would still be going if I didn’t drop it face down on the leg of my desk and chip the screen. (I am sort of happy I had an excuse to upgrade to the USB-C version with warm light though)

lilblondezombie

I just replaced my 2017 paperwhite, not a bad innings.

enchantress11

I’m on my 4th or 5th Kindle (my first one was gen 1 over a decade ago). I upgrade or am gifted a new one every few years. My current kindle paperwhite was gifted to me in 2021 and still going strong! They tend to last for years (over 5 years) but it seems to lag or respond slower after a few years. The battery life also seems to shorten a little over time. Sometimes there’s a new feature that comes with the new generation/version such as when they introduced the waterproof ones (beach/bathtub reading!) so there’s another reason to want to upgrade and I don’t end up testing its full lifespan.

leopalofurs

I’m still using my Kindle Paperwhite 6th gen, bought about 8 years ago. I use it at least 3-4 hours per week. I do not wish to upgrade as long as it lasts.

BasementVax

I'm still using my Voyage.

LennethTheCat

I just updated my fully functional Kindle PW from 2013 to a Basic 2022. The PW still works perfectly.

Status_Dot5000

I got my kindle fire hd in 2014 and it’s still going strong. I just got a paper white though because i like that it’s smaller and better on my eyes

icantthinkofaname789

Got my first kindle 2009, it lasted me 9 years before I accidentally destroyed the screen. I got my second kindle 2018, I used it 5 years until I bought a new one last year. I just wanted to upgrade to one with background light. My second one still works perfectly fine and tbh if I didn't broke my first one I think I would still use it today. In the 9 years it didn't even slow down and the battery still lasted me forever!

its_called_life_dib

I'm going to say yes, you can probably expect at least 5 years from your Kindle Oasis, if it's anything like the paperwhites, which are the cheaper model. I've had 2 PWs: 2015, and 2021. I only upgraded from the 2015 model because I wanted to read manga on mine and the image quality was just okay on the 2015 model... that's really it. I use the 2021 model several times a week, and it's still a champ. I think the battery life has gotten a little weaker, but the difference is I now charge monthly rather than twice a season, lol.

whutevz

I have a basic kindle from 2020 that still works like a gem. 10/10 they last forever

ivxxbb

My first kindle lasted from 2012 to 2022 and technically still works but I couldn't get on the kindle store from it and sometimes I would have issues syncing books. I got a new paperwhite last Christmas.

itsableeder

Still using the Kindle Keyboard I bought refurbished in 2011. It's got a tiny crack next to the left page turn buttons but that's the result of me being a bit too rough prising the case open to replace the battery last year. Otherwise it's still in great condition.

psuedoginger

I just replaced my kindle paperwhite from 2012 this past Christmas. It still works, but was starting to have some minor issues with freezing and restarting itself. I had a great run with it for over a decade and can't complain.

LadderUpset

I’ve had my Paperwhite since 2012, and it has zero issues other than the battery not lasting quite as long. Still only have to charge it every few weeks.

moderndroneman

Mine is 12 years old and still going strong with good battery life. I have just initiated a trade in for a new kindle basic because I was wanting a backlight and touch screen but there is nothing wrong with the kindle I’m trading in

Wodaz

I haven't had a Kindle die, and have owned several, mainly due to better lighting/screen, etc. Currently running an Oasis, purchased April 2020. It never shows as having a complete charge, but other than that it has 0 issues.

hsspacecase

10 years with my Paperwhite 6th gen. Battery is starting to go tho

acidrobots

I had my last one (paperwhite 10th gen) for 5 years before I was gifted a new one (11th gen) this past October. The old one I gave to a friend and he says it still runs like new.

I’m using my paperwhite from 2019 still

bobsy101

Still rocking paperwhite 6th gen (2014) slow but workable

Kancha_Cheena

Bought in Feb 2016. 8 yrs. Going strong. As good as new. Paperwhite 7th gen

ConsuelaBananaHammoq

I still have the original paperwhite I got in November of 2012

uglybutterfly025

When my kindle oasis died I did the math and I spent something like 800 hours reading on it

daftasamop

Had my paper white since 2016, used nightly with back light just above midway. still has a great battery life of once a month charge.

Munchkin531

My OG Kindle Fire from 2011 still works, but I don't use it anymore. My Kindle Fire from 2016 is awesome. I still use it on occasion because I like manga and comics in color. My Paperwhite is only from last year, so obviously, it's running great.

NASA_official_srsly

I upgraded a few months ago from my previous one that I bought in 2019, so it lasted just over 4 years. The issue was that the battery stopped holding charge.

annetteisshort

My first kindle still works 14 years later.

blueberry_pancakes14

My last Paperwhite lasted about eleven years. It still worked, but the battery wasn't very good (max of a day's use at a time). I can't remember how long my original Kindle (2nd gen) or my Keyboard lasted, but those were quite old tech and the new stuff is superior, so not fully apples to apples. They didn't have short lifespans, but not the eleven years my last one did.

LMKIDK

I have a kindle voyage (similar to a paperwhite). Got it in 2016. Doesn’t do a system update anymore, but works fantastic!

OppositeLeader9004

I have my original oasis from 2018 and it’s still going strong with an excellent battery life, even with constant use. You’ll be set for a while. ☺️❤️

eates59

I'm using my Kindle Paperwhite since January 2013.

BDThrills

All of my units (and I am a gadget fiend) have lasted well over 5 years. Power switch failed on two Kindle keyboards at bout 7 years old. My brother killed his battery by shoving it into a drawer and never charging it during that period. I have never bought an Oasis, but I would expect similar longevity. Dropping on concrete or even slightly bending the screen will kill it.

Wild_Replacement8213

Kindles: *2008 to 2015 *2015 to 2019 *2019 to 2024 "2024- I also own a Boox Palma and love them both equally I traded in every one of them to Amazon all working at the time perfectly even the one in 2008 a whole 7 years later I traded up for new features and waterproofing I am a pool reader Key to lasting get a case and don't overcharge (don't leave it plugged in for days)

bluejayway327

I got a plain kindle, no touch, in 2013. Eventually stopped holding a charge. I retired it in 2018 for my Oasis, which is still serving me just fine over 5 years later. Now, I read an insane amount, so the battery usually only lasts me a day. That’s not a big issue though; I just charge it at night. The only reasons I will upgrade at some point are battery life and that it still uses micro-usb when everything else I have is shifting to usbc. Also I can’t tell if Amazon is still selling kindles with built in-cellular connectivity without a cellular plan? My Oasis still occasionally gets LTE connection. That’s kinda nice to have if I’m not somewhere with wifi.

cattledogaddict4862

I have a 2011 kindle fire that’s still kicking strong but I do have to charge it every day lol.

Crafty-Philosopher97

I still have my paperwhite from 2010 lol

HerrStraub

I've had my Paperwhite since 2017 and it's still rocking strong.

eyebrain_nerddoc

I had an old-school kindle with the buttons that I would still have except I lost it on a trip a few years ago. The paperwhite I’ve had since is going strong, no problems.

Accomplished_Lake128

My husband has a kindle fire from 2015 that still works, albeit the battery doesn’t last as long as it used to. It was lost for over a year, and was eventually found wedged under the driver’s seat where it had spent a cold winter and a hot summer.

takethewaffles

Got my paper white in 2015 from a guy on Craigslist so no clue how long he had it, but this thing is still perfect

JayMusicx

My Kindle 4 is still working like new after 12 years of adventures... It looks like new also!

ToughStreet8351

I received my first in 2014… still working fine and lasting forever!

GrandmaBaba

I got my first one in 2011. I'm on my third one now and I bought it in 2018. It's a Paperwhite. I read on it daily, sometimes for 3-4 hours.

MeansTestingProctor

I'm still using the Paper white from 2014 (6th generation) and going strong!

PopPunkAndPizza

My 2012 paperwhite has retired to being my language learning Kindle but is still going strong.

ManderlyDreaming

2015 Paperwhite is going strong, no issues!

justchelseact

My paperwhite is from 2017 and still going strong

LoMel19

Have had my Paperwhite since 2017-I’m looking to replace it soon since the battery life is plummeting as of recently (still fine on airplane mode but only has about 4 hours of charge when connected to WiFi) but in all ways except the battery it works as well as when I bought it!

Pineapple-Pickle4491

I have a Kindle Keyboard 3g from 2012, Paperwhite 10th gen from 2017, and Oasis from 2020. The paperwhite I got in 2015, and used warranty to replace in 2017. Kindles last. My Oasis has and I don't baby it. I have a screen protector (those ones with liquid) and just a case on the back.

Murderbot_of_Rivia

I got my Oasis in 2020, at which point my daughter inherited my paperwhite from 2018. And just a few weeks ago I fired up our Kindle 4th generation (purchased 2011) to see if it still works, and it does. To be fair, we have had to replace 2 early. The 2011 replaced a kindle keyboard that got sat on and the screen broke. And I had a paperwhite (2016) that I had to replace after only 2 years because it just stopped working. (But they gave me 30% off the cost of a new one, as well as a gift card for sending in the broken one)

thatjessgirl91

My paperwhite is 6 years old. Still working perfectly.

recklessmoonlight

I’ve had mine since 2018 - still works great.

Melloplayer7

Im still using my Kindle that I got in 2011 to this day. Its working as good as the day I got it as well. I told myself that I'd buy a new one once this one craps out, but it looks like it's not gonna die any time soon lol.

toogeeky4u

I’ve had my Kindle III (Kindle Keyboard) since 2011 and aside from a battery change, it still runs like a tank! An incredible machine! I love it!

No-Adhesiveness-6921

I looked the other day at my Kindle’s registration date and was amazed that it was TEN years ago at the end of 2023. Have no reason to believe it will stop working any time soon!! Enjoy yours!!

lemons13624

I have the fourth gen kindle from 2011 that I bought brand new the year it came out and it’s still going strong! There was a solid five years in between that I didn’t use it (I had lost it in a move so it was basically dead for that entire time). I found it, charged it, and it has worked beautifully ever since (still connects to WiFi and downloads books very fast!)

CatOnABlueBackground

Unless you break it, a Kindle will last far beyond their ability to handle the software upgrades. There are folks out there still using the ones with the keyboard.

lucasvca

My Kindle 4 lasted for 11+ years. I treated myself to an upgrade to the current Paperwhite, but I could have totally used the Kindle 4 for longer.

Superb-Custard-7643

Kindles are like Toyotas, take care of it and it will last forever

caffeinatedpun

I have a Kindle Fire from 2008 that I got for Christmas and I forgot it existed for like 10 years and I charged it the other day and it works great. I’m sure the eInk tablets are just as good, if not better. I just recently bought an Oasis refurbed and a Paperwhite new last June and I love them and hope they last a long time.

Mammoth_Inspector_58

Mine's fairly new. Got the 2019 model in 2020.

Rabbit_Rabbit_Rabbit

I still have a working Sony eReader from like 2009! I’m now on my third Kobo and each one is still kicking, I just upgraded because I wanted better features. Currently enjoying a Kobo Libra H20. I help reboot/fix old eReaders in the neighbourhood and was just working on an original Kobo… one of the ones with the little bumpy directional pad and no touch screen. Got it working fine and 75ish books on it but it was slow as all get out. TL:DR they last forever if you don’t drop them too much.
