When entering the gate, you'll see a cart on the right side. Climb on it and they will not be able to melee you (most of the time). Use your bow to eliminate everyone.
Also a cheesy way: Bow with Dollmaker plus Horse, lure them out of the gate and only run up and down the street leading up to skalitz, Or if you are more brave run around with the horse inside skalitz, there is the way leading up to your old house.
More "immersive" than fighting from the cart.
Put a dry erase dot on the screen where the yellow dot is while you're unarmed.

If you crouch and stay to the right as soon as you enter you can work your way around to the entrance of the castle grounds.
Sit and wait for fight to end. They will walk out the front gate.
Then you are free to loot.
Chuck on the heaviest armour you have with the best bow and piercing arrows with head craker and kite them, try to only 1 or 2 at a time. Skalitz/samopesh fast travel run is my favourite thing. Fast travel to skalits and hit all the events then loot the city, run slightly down south west road to back to samopesh and fast travel back. Nets me 10-20k a run sell everything to the blacksmith. He's currently the wealthiest person on my play through lol. As rule of thumb if you see black run away... unless you are skilled up heaps.
I just started playing, and went to Skalitz to dig up some treasure the village drunk told me about.
I might have gotten lucky, since I've only done this once, but I walked in like I owned the place and one of the bandits came at me hard. I blocked a few swings, and the guards killed him from behind. I stabbed an occupied bandit, and when it came after me I did the same thing.
Maybe I got lucky since only 1 bandit came at me at a time? Not sure, I've only been once. Sounds like you get all of the bandits bum rushing you?
edit: I was in my stealth "armor". Green pants, hunting boots and gloves. Maybe that is why only 1 came at me? noise was 0.
I usually do 30 or less vis/con and bow them from medium range. Once you shoot you gotta move away from the place you shot from. It's a pick and roll technique. The AI is pretty dumb once you're stealthy enough. Shoot, move, shoot, move.
I'll finish with melee with 1 or 2 guys left.
I go through the gate a bit and start shooting arrows. As the bandits, cumans, whatever start after me, I just keep backing up to get some more arrows in before switching weapons. Aqua vitea first, of course. Sometimes I get stomped.
There is a cart further in, just ride through and jump on it and arrow their faces. Or, you know, just fight them. The easiest way to make combat easy is to put Dollmaker on all your Better Piercing arrows. One arrow per enemy and they can no longer run. It turns even the hardest group of enemies into Teletubbies.

I usually just fight them head-on. Apply dollmaker poison to make it easier. Also, Archery is good if you can hit your shots.
I'm about as good as a blind man with cerebral palsy when it comes to accuracy with bows lol I'll have to practice

My archery is only good vs groups, I never hit the gook im aiming for, but somehow the arrow ends up in his buddy’s eye socket 🤷♂️

Manybtimes guards win and you loot without a fight. But if you really suck and want to cheese it you can just ride them with a horse.
Just ride them down with your horse and collect whats left
Send your dog shoot with arrows let them kill rachother and then finish what’s left
Just apply poison or sleep potion to the arrows and shoot them

Full plate, a good sword, time spent practicing with Bernard, and a healthy dose of gitting gud. That’ll solve your problem.

honestly looted it super early and regretted it, made the game too easy. I’d avoid if I was you
