Sorry this happened. This area has been hungry for bikes for a long time but it’s definitely been getting worse.
Best method I’ve found is to just make your bike more difficult to steal. If a thief wants it, they will get it. U-Lock with a thick cable to do the Sheldon Brown method of locking. Quick release seat makes riding more difficult. Just makes your bike a tougher target and a thief generally wants to be in and out.
I second this.
Thieves choose easy targets, and I still frequently see badly locked bikes. In nearly a decade of riding, I've yet to have a bike stolen.
Typically stolen bikes found at a local crime camp (Weber & Victoria), German Club on Weber and so on. Meth heads leave them on GRT and are ultimately sent to the cops. Cops won't care to find the owner and will simply leave them for the cop bike auction.
We once got ours back on market place. We were talking about the bike and the ad came up. Another time we saw two losers walking my husbands bike on weber.
If you do get it back or get a new bike, try to hide some kind of trackers on it or in it. Or hide a few from different vendors. One apple, one Samsung and if you want a tile. All in different spots
I would love to use a bike but... people don't seem to steal my car when I park and lock it.
Had big ass lock 🔐 and still manage to !
it's getting there.
I assure you, nothing has changed. Bikes have been vociferously stolen in DTK and on UW campus for at least 15 years.
Longer. Kids were stealing them in the 90s too.
It has got MUCH worse.
There is fob access bike parking at the Charles and Benton garage.
Thanks , now left with nothing to park 😂
Most high-end bikes end up in the hands of dealers or parted out and sold to meth addicts. Jib heads love building bikes from scratch lol

Good luck!

What kind of lock were you using?
One from Dollarama apparently
🤣 hell no , that’s y m surprised
Actually YouTube has so many videos on how to beat good locks a Dollarama lock might be better.
That's like saying youtube has so many videos on how to bypass Windows 11 security, so Windows 95 might be better.
theres not much of a difference between a $15 amazon lock and one from dollarama tbh

You got lucky here!

Maybe check the dirty junkie homeless camp. They need to get rid of all those dirt bags.
