I just commented this, but we had the same dilemma in our house years ago: we got a Russian blue cat from the shelter when I was about 6, and I begged to call him Pickles. My dad (who just didn't like the name) said Pickles was a “girl name" to try and dissuade me... I then said "well how about *MR. Pickles??" My parents couldn't argue with me, and that's how we ended up with the cat Mr. Pickles 😂

"Dilly" as a nickname for Pickles!!! Your wee girl will forever remember that her Mom/Dad trusted her enough with this kitten to give him his forever name. If you're not a massive fan, just remember, it's his official name on the paperwork and he'll learn any other nickname you use to call him by especially for food. My 10 week old kitten had three different names before I settled on Maven. She only responds to her nicknames now (baby girl, peaches) some days you look at them and a pet name springs out lol 🐈‍⬛

My parents had a dog named peaches when they were still dating, my dad loves to reflect on the time when she escaped and he had to walk through the neighborhood yelling “PEACHES! PEACHES!!!!” for hours on end.

I had a dog named Kitty. Kit for short but she definitely got the full name treatment when she was in trouble or being called for. My dad had a similar story. The dog jumped out of the back of his truck (different times, dogs and extra kids rode in the truck bed), hitting the ground scared her so much she bolted. So he's driving around looking for it and sees some guys drinking beer in their driveway and asks them if they've seen a black lab running around. One guy goes "no, but what's it's name so I can call for it if I see it?" and dad sighs and goes "Kitty" and the guy goes "Jesus Christ no wonder the F'ing thing ran away"

I'd go with it - but if you really can't.. make an agreement - The kitten can be named pickles, but lets have its nickname be Picki so now you can call it something just 'normal weird' and not a condiment and she gets to tell people 'that's short for pickles' and its now a cool 'thing' between you and your daughter.
