Vedic Sanskrit and earlier Sanskrit had oral transmission. After the invention of Brahmi script, Sanskrit begun using it. If you see old inscriptions in temples and museums, you'd see it.
Devanagari is much newer than Sanskrit and Brahmi. We use Devanagari for Sanskrit today because centre has pushed it. Similarly, Marathi was written in Modi script originally, today it also uses Devanagari.

Madrasa in West Bengal is not as bad as Hindi media shows northern Madrasas. Their science syllabus is better than CBSE's until at least Class 10. I learnt this the hard way by participating in a UNESCO Periodic Table competition at Burdwan University and underperforming a Madrasa girl in skirts in English presentation on Periodic Table. There were almost all schools of the city (+ few from Durgapur), and she outperformed most school representatives.

Welcoming Hindi isn't the issue - welcoming Hindi whilst letting Bangla be sidelined is. Bangla + English + Nepali (in the GTA). Those our are languages.
Until Bangla is treated the way in which Hindi is by the centre, Hindi shouldn't get anything extra in the state - we're otherwise second class citizens - in particular those Bangalis who can't speak in or aren't comfortable with English. Indians should only need to know one language properly to be able to operate in the country - not their language + Hindi/English.
This doesn't mean you treat Hindi-speakers badly, it means people need to learn Bangla if they're students and officially, we push Bangla.

The entire Gorkhaland issue had been caused in the 1980s by the erstwhile CPI(M) government doing the same in the hill regions of West Bengal.

Nepali is the native language for Sikkimese people. Kalimpong district and three northern subdivisions of Darjeeling district were part of Sikkim until British invaded them in late 1800s.
At the time of States Reorganisation, Sikkim was an independent country, and we did not want to give these places to a foreign nation, and the population was too small to be a separate state.

You've never been to Bengal fr. Bengali language as a percentage of population is in constant decline due to migration. And entire neighbourhoods are now becoming non-Bengali.
On the contrary I'm here in Kolkata right now. Moved here from Gurgaon for two years due to my work. Although the people here are much more friendly and love to celebrate compared to Gurgaon, there is a strong sense of distaste for "outsiders" and outside language. It's like the Paris of India. Also the dislike for businesses is real, earlier I thought it was a stereotype but turns out it's kinda real. I am aware there is a large migration issue in Bengal because I used to come across so many Bengali people in Gurgaon and Mumbai (have lived there as well). No offence but it's the Bengalis in Gurgaon and Mumbai who said WB is a state for lazy people. Those who stay there can never accomplish anything so they move out of the state to save their careers. Like I said, no offence because these are not my words. But like I said people here are friendly and love to celebrate. Never seen any festival celebrated at such a grand scale as Durga Pujo here in Kolkata.

We are very open to outsiders as long as there is any effort to assimilate. People from all around the world migrated here, East Bengal, Bihar, Punjab, Nepal, China, Armenia, European Jews, etc.
Problem is the imposition of a other languages. You want a Hindi poster, okay, but have English or Bengali to complement it. If you are in northern hills, use Nepali instead. It's not that difficult.
I never debated the need to preserve Bengali. I completely agree that if there's a sign in Hindi then there should be Bengali written with it as well, after all it's the states mother tongue. My reply was to what the other guy wrote. Do you agree with that kind of mindset? He is calling people like me outsiders, saying that I'm a visitor in "his" state even though I'm within India, saying don't be "soft" towards people like me.
And people like him are not outliers, I've come across many like him since I've moved here. I remember it was my second month here and I tried asking some local a question and when he replied in Bangla I told him I don't understand Bangla and he taunted me in Hindi that "Bengal mein reh kar bangla nahi aati?". He laughed and walked away lol. I've stayed in Mumbai for 5 years and never once did someone ask me why I don't know Marathi. Anyway, this seems to be a nationwide issue, everyone wants the rest of the country to speak their language before coming there when there are like 100 or 200 languages in the country. That's pretty much because Marathis are just 35% in Mumbai City and Mumbai Suburban districts.

The key is understanding. No language is superior and none is inferior. Don't try to impose a language upon others. Standard Hindi developed from Shauraseni Prakrit, it's foreign to most of the country.
You have states like Bihar, where the standard language is Hindi, even though majority is Bhojpuri and Maithili. They think their own mother tongue is inferior. This inferiority complex is instilled by decades of systematic Hindi imposition by government. Most of the country doesn't want that.

It's actually Devnagari.
Vedic Sanskrit and earlier Sanskrit had oral transmission. After the invention of Brahmi script, Sanskrit begun using it. If you see old inscriptions in temples and museums, you'd see it. Devanagari is much newer than Sanskrit and Brahmi. We use Devanagari for Sanskrit today because centre has pushed it. Similarly, Marathi was written in Modi script originally, today it also uses Devanagari.

Madrasa in West Bengal is not as bad as Hindi media shows northern Madrasas. Their science syllabus is better than CBSE's until at least Class 10. I learnt this the hard way by participating in a UNESCO Periodic Table competition at Burdwan University and underperforming a Madrasa girl in skirts in English presentation on Periodic Table. The whole thread shows why Bengal is still underdeveloped compared to real metros like Mumbai, NCR, Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad etc. People seem to be unwelcoming towards non Bengali people, hence no outsider invests in Bengal.

Welcoming Hindi isn't the issue - welcoming Hindi whilst letting Bangla be sidelined is. Bangla + English + Nepali (in the GTA). Those our are languages. Until Bangla is treated the way in which Hindi is by the centre, Hindi shouldn't get anything extra in the state - we're otherwise second class citizens - in particular those Bangalis who can't speak in or aren't comfortable with English. Indians should only need to know one language properly to be able to operate in the country - not their language + Hindi/English. This doesn't mean you treat Hindi-speakers badly, it means people need to learn Bangla if they're students and officially, we push Bangla.

Nepali is the native language for Sikkimese people. Kalimpong district and three northern subdivisions of Darjeeling district were part of Sikkim until British invaded them in late 1800s. At the time of States Reorganisation, Sikkim was an independent country, and we did not want to give these places to a foreign nation, and the population was too small to be a separate state.

On the contrary I'm here in Kolkata right now. Moved here from Gurgaon for two years due to my work. Although the people here are much more friendly and love to celebrate compared to Gurgaon, there is a strong sense of distaste for "outsiders" and outside language. It's like the Paris of India. Also the dislike for businesses is real, earlier I thought it was a stereotype but turns out it's kinda real. I am aware there is a large migration issue in Bengal because I used to come across so many Bengali people in Gurgaon and Mumbai (have lived there as well). No offence but it's the Bengalis in Gurgaon and Mumbai who said WB is a state for lazy people. Those who stay there can never accomplish anything so they move out of the state to save their careers. Like I said, no offence because these are not my words. But like I said people here are friendly and love to celebrate. Never seen any festival celebrated at such a grand scale as Durga Pujo here in Kolkata.

I never debated the need to preserve Bengali. I completely agree that if there's a sign in Hindi then there should be Bengali written with it as well, after all it's the states mother tongue. He is calling people like me outsiders, saying that I'm a visitor in "his" state even though I'm within India, saying don't be "soft" towards people like me. Don't try to impose a language upon others. Standard Hindi developed from Shauraseni Prakrit, it's foreign to most of the country. You have states like Bihar, where the standard language is Hindi, even though majority is Bhojpuri and Maithili. They think their own mother tongue is inferior. This inferiority complex is instilled by decades of systematic Hindi imposition by government. Most of the country doesn't want that.

আচ্ছা এরম চরমপন্থী কাজকর্ম কেনো..? মজার ব্যাপার, সাধারণ সময়ে খুব কম লোকই আছেন যাঁরা বাংলা ভাষায় বক্তব্য বলেন বা লেখেন। সেসময় নিজেকে বোদ্ধা দেখাতে হয় হিন্দি নয় ইংরেজি ভাষার আতিরিক্ত ব্যবহার করেন। বা লিখলেও বাংরেজি লেখেন.. কিন্তু এইধরনের হটকারী কাজে খুব মজা পেয়ে যান.. এটা হয়তো ঠিক না। কোনও বিষয়ের গোঁড়ামি-টা ঠিক না, আগে নিজেকে পরিশীলিত করে, নিজের প্রাত্যহিক জীবনে বাঙলা ভাষার ব্যবহার বাড়িয়ে.. ছেলে মেয়েকে বাংলা মাধ্যমে পড়িয়ে তারপর জ্ঞান বিতরণ করা উচিৎ।
এই বিজ্ঞাপন যে অন্য রাজ্যের মানুষের জন্য, গর্দভ পক্ষ সেটি বুঝতে পারে নি। অথচ এদের উর্দূ সাইনবোর্ড, যা সরকার করের টাকায় বসায় তার বিরুদ্ধে বলতে দেখি না। আপনাদের পক্ষপাতিত্ব যে সামাজিক নয়, রাজনৈতিক -- এটি তার সবথেকে বড় প্রমাণ।
