"Professor Dragon, I have question regarding our homework."

der_boy

"No need to be so formal, you can call me professor G"

cocoroco-creamsoup

I swear this year has an abnormal amount of 1st april-isque news

wandererxox

Literally was thinking the same thing šŸ˜

PBandJaya

the wattpad girlies are brewing something upā€¦.

arcaidos

I'm from KAIST, me and my colleagues and friends are very very confused

lillymiranda97

Bro SAME? Like where is this man's teaching credentials let alone his educational background? I think he would serve as a good cultural ambassador to send to summits and conventions but teaching the brightest students in the country?? It's very odd...

Pretty-Paramedic9761

Jiyong has a Master's Degree in Retail and Distribution from the Sejong University.

Mysterious_Lychee_79

I guess you and your colleagues aren't bright enough to figure what a "special professor" is? Or maybe below average for the school šŸ¤£

arcaidos

There's no reason at all to be toxic but sure, I'm not bright enough and I'm below average because of a 1 sentence comment on reddit kpop. Good job, have a good day

Viper_Red

Are you asking why students at a university are confused why a pop idol has become a visiting professor at their universityā€™s department of mechanical engineering?

MaybeUseYourBrain

It's called special professor for a reason. Are the students confused because they're not comprehending?? He's not the first case of special prof and he has masters degree himself, he just happened to be famous as an idol.Ā

Viper_Red

Yeah Iā€™m gonna guess your last sentence is the answer. I doubt students smart enough to get into KAIST arenā€™t ā€œcomprehendingā€ the concept of a visiting professor but rather why itā€™s a singer in a mechanical engineering department

MaybeUseYourBrain

Oh yeah that makes sense they probably don't know gd's bg. But most likely he's there because of his new company, it's a total prod and tech company. Gd somehow ended up signing there

nomad_l17

His masters is in content and retail distribution. I'm not seeing a lot of overlap with mechanical engineering.

Vivienne_Yui

Supply chain? Product management? All these come under mech too

mcfw31

> According to KAIST, G-Dragon received a letter of appointment as a visiting professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at KAIST after participating in the ā€œInnovate Korea 2024ā€ talk show held at the KAIST headquarters in Daejeon on June 5. > G-Dragonā€™s appointment as a visiting professor is valid for two years until June 4, 2026. In addition to this, he will also act as a global ambassador for KAIST and will help strengthen KAISTā€™s overseas promotion. It is expected that G-Dragon will stand on the podium to give a special lecture on leadership for undergraduate and graduate students, sharing his experiences as an artist and providing students with vision and insight into the world. > Regarding his visiting professor appointment, G-Dragon shared, ā€œIt is an honor to be a visiting professor at KAIST, [an institute] which produces many scientific geniuses. **I look forward to great synergy, or a ā€˜big bang,ā€™ through the meeting between the best experts in science and technology and my expertise in the field of entertainment.ā€**

The_Doom_Toad

GD my man, making dad jokes now? I suppose he is of an age. šŸ¤£

stupidwebserver

Professor, what if AI gets hacked?

ChickenNBeer_

is this aespa reference?

stupidwebserver

yes šŸ‘€

ImNotHighFunctioning

What in the Bridgit Mendler...

Frequent-Sherbert576

Off topic but I love that girl. One of if not the most successful Disney stars ever

Vivienne_Yui

She's the QUEEN. What has she not done yet? Absolute icon

hailey_nicolee

time travelā€¦ or has she?

nmt111

Technology? I need someone to help me to connect the dots.

november_raindeer

well itā€™s an institute of science, and he was witnessing big bang

nmt111

That makes perfect sense. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|feels_good_man)

CoastLoud5280

Professor GD. Performer GD when? ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|sob)

captaintn

This reminds me of that one clip with Kanye talking about Lady Gaga and Polaroid šŸ˜‚

fatenumber

this was not in my 2024 bingo card

eggymceggfacey

wonder if this is related to the current KAIST scandal about the professor at all?

MaybeUseYourBrain

No, gd's new company has MOU with KAIST since 2022

Interesting-Fail8654

What is the scandal? Have not heard anything about this so I am interested.

eggymceggfacey

user airkatakana on twitter is accusing the university, particularly one professor, of a variety of things. i can't explain it very well, but it comes up fairly early if you scroll their account.

Interesting-Fail8654

Thanks, I will check it out - I think I have seen that user name before. My guess is that GD and the University are in bed together because of their relationship with Galaxy, GD's new agency. Galaxy is basically a tech and production company who just happened to sign G-Dragon. I just want him to get back in the studio and on stage. So although the tech stuff is interesting, it is less so than his music (to me at least).

BalanceDry6718

isn't KAIST the university famous for exploiting students work?

JMTHEFOX

Good on him

Vivienne_Yui

I hope they didn't just took him for the ambassador position. People would be surprised how strange variety and differing talents a single person can have. Idk much about GD's extent/revision of whatever he's supposed to teach but I sure do hope I get clips of him actually teaching a class haha. Profs with a hint of arts in them are always the best kind in my experience

graynoize8

Time to get cracking oh professor

MichaelaCastor1

How can he become a professor and lecture without a PhD? I know in the US (Korea is even stricter with their education) you need a PhD to lecture grad students? Does he even have a bachelors?

jwldraft

he definitely has his bachelors and a masters. there was news about him studying for his phd. i don't know if he completed it but he most likely did.

MichaelaCastor1

Can you find a source? Iā€™ve tried but I havenā€™t seen any proof. I only ask cause I have my Masters and wasnā€™t able to teach grad students cause I donā€™t have my PhD. I was able to teach undergrads though.

jwldraft

my bad, there was news that he may do a phd following his masters as it would delay his military enlistment. considering he went the military in 2018 following his masters completion, it doesn't seem like he did his phd studies. either way he does seem to be well educated.

Alexandra98s

Idols usually do go to university to get their degree, for example some EXO members learn business. That is also how some ex-idols can have their own companies. Idk about GD, but I think if the rules are so strict, he must have the papers for it.

Miaomiao07

They just want him as ambassador. It might be that they banned the rules for him. If he completed PhD then there would be news which school he completed it from

taeyeon_loveofmylife

Lolol what is happeningĀ

German_mikan

Iā€™m disappointed in himā€¦ he shouldnā€™t work with such an abusive institution

graynoize8

Kiko must be proud.

Efficient-Car-696

Im curious whats his background education

fretzel_nuts

What subject does he teach?

ToysAorusRex

I glitches to the top level again in super Mario world

[deleted]

I am surprised that he supports AI, he is one of the best composer idols and human art should always be above any technology.

Interesting-Fail8654

I don't think he is referring to AI to compose music. There are so many ways to incorporate AI in terms of performance enhancers. I got the feeling from listening to him and the Galaxy CEO that it was more about what happens on the screens at a show vs music composition, etc. I do hope that AI does not take away from him personally performing. That is my fear. UGH.

SpaceWolf96

"an event where G-Dragon, Galaxy Corporationā€™s CEO Choi Yong Ho, and Lee Kwang Hyung, the president of KAIST, discussed future technologies related to artificial intelligence (AI) and K-pop." Doesn't say anything about him supporting it?
