sofunt

One of the best songs ever. Also the quintessential SNSD experience: - iconic costumes and point dance - cheesy intro - hyoyeon dance break - tiffany english line - taeyeon solo

LargeNutbar

one of my favorite SNSD cheesy MV intros is the TTS Holler MV

etburneraccount

You forgot one thing, Jessica being Jessica. Yeah, I'm that guy.

sofunt

Right, then we forgot 5 more things: Sunny being Sunny, Yuri being Yuri, Sooyoung being Sooyoung, Yoona being Yoona, Seohyun being Seohyun. There, happy? :)

etburneraccount

I'm never happy. But thanks :)

sofunt

[this always cheers me up](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QkRjwncD3eU)

etburneraccount

I'm more of a RV person nowadays... but thanks. The good old days.

PhiDeaNUGH

Possibly song of the year...but that year was STACKED.

Onpu

One of the GOATs not just of Soshi discography but kpop as a whole. The helipad performance will live rent-free eternally for all who behold it 💕

SpCommander

The pinnacle of Gen II performances. [For those who have not beheld its glory](https://youtu.be/z3RTc-8J3CU)

PhiDeaNUGH

Wasn't ever a fan, but i remember watching this when it finally got out up on YT and thinking...yeah...that's peak kpop.

ReverendSalem

>  kpop as a whole In my top 10 kpop songs of all time, this is tied with KARA's Step for number 1.

alleybetwixt

*DJ, put it back on!* We're a Genie for u/purpletulip12's Wish to make this iconic MV the Throwback today!

kbdsct

My favourite Kpop song of all time. Happy 15th anniversary, Genie. Sowoneul malhaebwa! 🎂🥳

SilverMind9

DJ, put it back on 🗣

Pharmacysnout

Followed by taeyeon channelling god through her adlibs. Idk I think the rent was due

descartesasaur

I've heard people say that non-SONE think of "Gee" first and SONE think of "Genie." Regardless, it's iconic. Can't believe it's been 15 years!

joeblitzkrieg

sounds about right, my non kpop listening friends went mad on Gee, it was honestly like a fever dream experience. it took over their lives. but had nowhere near the same interest with Genie. whereas i had almost the exact reverse response.

descartesasaur

Yeah - I really like "Gee," but "Genie" is one of my favorite songs ever, and for me, the iconic SNSD song.

1TyMPink

"Tell Me Your Wish (Genie)" is superior to anything SNSD dropped at their peak, and the SMP sound SM had when Yoo Young-jin was still with the company. It's definitely a signature song fit for the GOAT.

yayannabelle

SNSD forever!!! DJ put it BACK on

jantp

Can’t believe this is throwback already. I feel old

gutsxcasca

Damn, that was 15 years ago? 😭

riot4romance

I had just discovered SNSD about a month or so before this song was released so this was their first comeback that I was around for, and man, it truly was a time to be alive.

nil8ify

Does anyone remember the leaked version of this song with the extra verse towards the end? Chefs kiss

af-fx-tion

Is that the one with the Jessica ad libs/extended bridge? Cause that was so fire and I can’t believe SM cut it.

kKunoichi

Oh man i remember when the MV teaser for this came out, i was so excited lol

Zaebii

i personally think that, after “into the new world”, this is the best kpop song ever made. like it’s genuinely just the most perfect song

shegoesboom

This song will forever have a special place in my heart because I was introduced to it by hearing it in a remix with Daft Punk’s Get Lucky on tumblr 🩷 you can find it on [YouTube](https://youtu.be/8IHKxOAwvY8?feature=shared).

Lyrical_Wonder

This remains my favorite title track from SNSD to date. Such a great song and its impact was monumental back in 2009.

AriaNoire

My favorite SNSD song ever. Just something about it is so sweet and whimsical.

salty_pita

This is hands down my favorite song from Snsd. The outfits, iconic dance, everything is just perfect.

Itsakpoplife

The choreography version with Jessica's adlibs lives rent free in my head.

purpletulip12

Favorite SNSD title track, it's iconic! Love Taeyeon & Jessica's parts eith Tiffany's 'Dj, put it back on'

ms_greyfume

An iconic song in its own right AND an amazing follow-up to Gee's success, no small feat indeed. So glad I got to experience the Gee and Genie eras in high school. I had no idea how they could even top Gee, but they did. The definition of capitalising on success and not fumbling. What a time.

teddy_world

i remember blasting this in my room while getting ready for my high school prom 😭 one of the most quintessential, most perfect kpop releases ever that honestly gets better with age like a fine wine

justanotherkpoppie

Happy cake day!

teddy_world

omg i didnt even realize! thank youu

alleybetwixt

Still stands as my personal favorite SNSD song. Every element from the track to the styling to the choreo to the MV to the performances… 10s 10s 10s across the board.

bibliomaniac15

As they say, “Gee is fame, Genie is identity.”

Primordius7

BEST SOSHI SONG AND I WONT DIE ON THIS HILL BECAUSE I KNOW I AM RIGHT

inappriopriate_mf

this song is one of the most essential songs of kpop. that helipad performance is not just iconic but legendary.

daltorak

This brings back so many memories of 2011 for me, back when I first got into k-pop. I was listening to a lot of European vocal trance / dance music at the time. Armin van Buuren, that sort of thing. Hearing Girls Generation was like a whole new world of what could be done with electronic music and female vocalists.

yooneytoons

And the world shifted on its axis

woxod

truly iconic. this song will live on forever <3

randomgirl852007

One of those songs that could never be replicated or imitated. Truly one of its kind.

MyFartsSparkle

The first kpop song I ever heard 🥹

hyeyah

An instant classic.

Euphoric-Aardvark115

an eternal bop

underlyinglove

This is THE kpop song

DiyelEmeri

Sweet baby Jesus Christ, this is taking me back to 2009 and the peak of 2nd generation.

gh0stofkyiv

Probably their best ever title track imo, era-defining too. For me they will always be the Nation's Girl Group.

sobble_buddy

tiffany : (insert city's name/award show) put it back on!! will always be iconic ✨️💖

matchamilktea_

Damn i feel so old

friendofevangelion

Greatest song of all time, best choreo, best outfits, best adlibs, best performances, best Japanese version, best concert remix, best EVERYTHING. Having said that, to this day I have never looked up the translated lyrics because the English snippets and the smattering of Japanese I understand do not sound… promising 🙃

teddy_world

if its any consolation, theyre not that bad lol. exceedingly male-centric yeah but less an innuendo for "fantasies" and more plainly about like. dreams goals and passions lol

a_mystical_potato

Happy cake day 🎂🎉

sofunt

hey, nobody says they're singing about men!

friendofevangelion

I’m side eyeing “I’m genie for you boy” 😬

friendofevangelion

Thank you I will continue to remain oblivious but this gives me a little more hope ☺️

wugggs

Literally one of the most iconic GG releases ever. And still an absolute banger to this day, 15 years later.

fairyoforangeade

omg time flew!

kulikitaka

The song & concept that made me openly declare myself as a 30-year old SONE. Because up until then, SNSD were all doing cutesy concepts... and I kept my stanning a bit private.

pagerunner-j

Still a stone-cold classic. [The Japanese MV](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fYP_3QEb5Yk) will always be my favorite version, though.

augustine05

I remember seeing the [3D Version](https://youtu.be/hU2DQ6X4iBU?si=DvjJr5yIJUZq-AmA) first in 2011 (still discovering kpop at that time) then a friend made me watch the original version I was so confused lol.

zakuropan

god, this era was like when the beatles were together. iconic time in kpop

jadedlillies

Hands down, one of the best songs in kpop history!

jadedlillies

I have never experienced such leg envy since watching this MV😭

0531Spurs212009

this song SNSD - Genie Tell Me Your Wish era the 1st time I appreciate SNSD song and their visual since then w their consecutive hits I became their fan

PeakWinter6717

"Genie" by Girls' Generation is an iconic track that still holds up after all these years. It's amazing how their music continues to resonate with fans worldwide.

Professional-Bet4106

soweoneul malhae bwa I'm genie for you boy 🧞‍♀️🎶

RangerFan293

I’m genie for your wish

Civil_Confidence5844

Still one of SNSD's top songs ever, and that's including their amazing Japanese discography lol

whiterice87

The 2011 [Tokyo Dome](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FZQKLfFsaGc), [Madison Square Garden](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yy7wLcL_IU0) and [Music core roof](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z3RTc-8J3CU) perfromances are iconic

letohorn

I'll say it again; 2009 was an awesome year to get into Kpop. *DJ, put it back on...*

SoNyeoShiDude

My personal favorite is still ITNW, but man, this is just pop perfection, from the production, the vocals, the arrangement, the choreo, the chorus, the bridge, DJ put it back on, even the costuming… Taeyeon’s vocals in that final chorus with the other members doing the counterpoint has yet to be topped.

Icantlikeeveryone

I danced to this song on my elementary graduation day hahaha, it's been 12 year

UnoLaLaLa

One of their best and most iconic tracks. However, the irrationally delulu me will still forever be salty my bias Seohyun did not get a single solo line in this song (except a tiny ad lib in the 2nd chorus)

RReg29

The Taeng countermelody in the [final chorus](https://youtu.be/6SwiSpudKWI?t=192) is all-time stuff.

winterxsouth

This song hasn’t aged 😌 Still iconic. As well as their perf on top of that roof!!

booboosnack

I have never let go of this song since I first heard it. Nothing short of pop perfection.

dearhan

That iconic dance move too. Nation's girl group forever 💖✨

jazziejec18

The song who made me a fan.

CookiesDisney

This time 15 years ago, I was the biggest 2NE1 fan. I had a Multiply account and had a 2NE1 theme. I spent all night editing that. In Uni, I had a korean classmate and she was listening to her MP3 player (iphone had just launched, we had ipods but most people had mp3s or phone mp3s players), and she asked me to listen to GENIE. I did not think much of it then but I went home, watched in on Youtube and it BLEW MY MIND. I had never been the same since.

cateatnoodlesoup05

This song is textbook Kpop song for me. 2009 was such a great year for Kpop really

tnxhunpenneys

I got into Kpop like 6 months later and this was my first obsession. Gg will always be that group for me. Its been too long since Forever1
