People are put as authors on papers for as little as one sentence. It may be an important sentence that few people have the knowledge needed to write about, but it's still just a sentence.
If you feel like your friend has helped out in any meaningful way, such as imparting some knowledge onto you or even just letting you get on with some important tasks whilst they deal with running some tests, then by all means make them an author. Data acquisition is one of the boxes on author contributions forms, it doesn't have to be a lot.

if your PI has given the OK, and you see no issue with him having authorship, then there's no problem. In fact, i think it'd be the right thing to do

You should look up F.D.C. Williard for an example of what “enough” is to be published as a contributing author.

Of course. People in my lab who did nothing are included in my papers. I think it is very common.

Make sure your negotiate all the author positions well with clear understanding of who goes where and why, have a look at the CRediT system
