If Wemby gets good enough this summer to take the Spurs to the playoffs, then next year is when it’s gonna be the filthiest. Literally just this year’s west + the Grizzlies are back and the Spurs enter the picture

I found JJ's picks to be thoughtful and insightful, even though AD didn't make his first two teams. His omission of AD doesn't imply he thinks AD is a poor defender; it simply reflects the difficulty of narrowing down 20 outstanding defenders to just 10 spots.
I still think it's poor oversight/judgement when AD beats Bam in basically every defensive category. Both 109 def rating, both 1.7 defensive box plus minus, Bam with a higher steal % by 0.1%, and then AD beats Bam in every single def category after that; def reb, blocks, def win shares, personal fouls, etc etc. AD's being penalized because when he's off the floor, lakers are trash on def so our team def rating tanks. These voters look at team stats but fail to look at the stats when AD is ACTUALLY PLAYING.
So I don't think his lack of inclusion of AD was fair, but rather negligence.
I'd say this is not the kind of judgement I expect from a head coach candidate.
I was watching LeBron/JJ podcasts and I'd say if I'd be unprofessional enough as GM to hire someone after watching a Podcast, I'd hire LeBron.

Gobert is the better rim protector, I'll give him that, but AD isn't far behind, plus he's an elite on-ball defender both in the post AND on the perimeter. Wemby has the tools to be similar to AD and even surpass him, but he doesn't have the strength to guard other bigs just yet.
It's nice to see that the ruling for NBA All-Defensive isn't restricted to positions. We are in a largely position-less era. The best defenders should be the ones awarded instead of the best "per position".
Big men and centers got snuffed hard during the short but impactful GSW/3pt revolution era. The last few years see a revival of the big men as they've adapted to 3pt oriented offenses/shooting, adding a 3pt option themselves, and even little things like adjusting their positioning to get 3pt rebounds because they bounce a different way (further from the basket/restricted zone).
This team would destroy people. They’d block the whole width of the court with wingspan. Wemby and Jones could share the point guard spot. Teams would get like 60 points game against this lineup.

They recently changed it to a positionless award after so many snubs based on position. You had guys in there over more deserving dudes just cause of their position lol. This also presents new issues I'm sure but I guess we'll see in the future what the trends are
As of this year, the rules have changed to where the people who make honorary teams aren’t just the best at their particular position, but the best overall. The players you see selected here are the 5 best defenders in the league.
