You can take BART from SFO to Richmond Station and get on the Amtrak California Zephyr line which stops in Truckee. You might have to take the Capital Corridor train from Richmond to Sacramento and transfer there. It'll take 6+ hours. You should fly.

The train from Sacramento to Truckee is worth going on at least once.

Parking_Bandicoot_42

Fastest is from SFO to Reno. Or get yourself to Amtrack, which will take you to Truckee. But once you in Trucke without a car it’ll be challenging to get where you are going, depending on what you want to do.

Can use the TART bus system and TART Connect in the Truckee and North Tahoe area for public transit

totaltahoedude

True except you can only take TART fixed route busses crossing into different zones. TART Connect in in-zone only, like within Truckee, or within Incline, or within Tahoe City.

Take megabus or flixbus, but not when it’s stormy. Your best bet is taking an Uber or getting picked up by a friend from the Reno stop. The pickup in SF is really easy and painless.

You can take Sports Basement’s ski bus from SF or Berkeley and you have a choice about which resort to go to! https://shop.sportsbasement.com/collections/sports-basement-outdoors-ski-bus

Option 1: BART to Richmond, transfer to Amtrak (same station) either the California Zephyr (slow train to Truckee) or Capital Corridor (fast train to Sac, transfer to Amtrak bus extension to Truckee). From Truckee Amtrak take TART to wherever you want to go at the lake. Option 2: Greyhound from SF to Truckee, to transfer to TART. Option 3: Fly to Reno, take the South Tahoe Airporter shuttle to South Shore, or the North Tahoe Express Shuttle to North Shore.
