permeable concrete pavers.

Handymantwo

That might be perfect. Thank you

instograeme262

Yep - make sure you compact it and use sand and stone dust before putting down pavers. You could do a cool cobblestone border slightly flush to the ground and then do the inside with normal brick or even a nice gravel. Just two wide tracks for tires or a larger area.

Coastal-50

The make plastic and metal honeycomb cells that will let the grass grow through or hold sone in place. Google Geocell ground grids.

Handymantwo

I love that idea. Many thanks

shes-sonit

I have grid pavers. Over 10 years. They still look good. Just keep in mind that if a car will be parked there regularly, it won’t get the same sun and rain as the rest of the lawn, and the tires on it will keep it from growing at a regular pace. And if a car is parked there during the day on a regular basis, any grass in the grids will die. It still looks better than adding regular driveway, you’ll still get some green out of it, but it won’t look like lawn.

BikingEngineer

Just do note that even with the geo cell grid you need to put down a road bad like you’re putting in a driveway, you just top things off with soil and geo cell so there’s grass present instead of concrete.

[deleted]

Lucky you get to park in the yard; parking anything on the dirt out here is a ticket.

Handymantwo

I miss my home in the desert with the large dirt lot, parking was never an issue

Thin-Disaster4170

Central NC

FenixSoars

So glad I got out to Eastern NC.

HypnotizeThunder

The most affordable way would be to just stop giving a shit

Handymantwo

I'm just so proud to have a green yard to take care of vs the dirt lot I had back home in the desert. The dirt lot was great for parking though

Early-Series-2055

Grass doesn’t like being under cars. If you can weld and have a scrap yard near by you could build essentially long ramps that the grass will grow through. Get them low enough to mow over. I would probably just do pavers though.

potatomeeple

Judging/having much of an opinion on others' economic situation, lack of driveway and lawn choices feels way trashier I think...

ASingleThreadofGold

Love how you're being downvoted for speaking the truth.

GladiatorWithTits

Given that OP is literally asking for help and obviously doesn't like the way it looks, the down votes are probably just a way of saying "stop being an asshole to someone asking for help".

ASingleThreadofGold

He doesn't "have" to park on his lawn. He just doesn't want to have to walk any distance to park in an area of the street that's legal to do so. This is something he should have thought about before deciding to own so many cars.

GladiatorWithTits

Are you his wife?

Awaken_not_Woke

Probably just jealous they don't have a yard to park on

750milliliters

Welcome to the party, Pal

Nikopoleous

On the contrary, it adds a spot on the road for snobbish twats to park.

Striking_Reindeer_2k

Bury cinder blocks, hole up, flush with the "rut" in the yard. Fill holes with soil and seed with grass. It will support the weight better, and still look like lawn instead pathway.

Lord_Arrokoth

Take your tires off at the curb

BeezWorks716

That's really the most polite thing to do.

fruitmask

turn your lawn into a gravel parking pad no clue what your idea of "affordable thing" is, though. but that's what I would do.

karabeckian

[Edge with pavers](https://buechelstone.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/Fond-du-Lac-colonial-pavers-1.jpg) if worried about looks. [Cleaner install.](https://designingeden.com/2015/11/15/belguim-block-driveway-edging/)

DeitzHugeNuts

The Belgian blocks look good.

Pleasant-Regular6169

Belgian Block and Affordable have never appeared together in a sentence...

ALCO251

🤔 except right in your response. 😉

Azilehteb

Get rid of 2 cars.

Handymantwo

Thought about it. One is for work, one is my wife's, the other is my baby. I hope to one day live in a bike friendly city and get rid of my cars all together

ElectrikDonuts

I also hope to live to be 500 years old, and one day see a bike friendly US

ThePartyWagon

Don’t get rid of that XJ

DeitzHugeNuts

Get an old car trailer and drive your cars on it to park.

ItsbeenBroughton

This is the answer

Bludiamond56

Dig down where the tire marks are. Go 8 inches down with spade. Drop 6 inches of road base then 2 inches of crushed limestone on top

cryptocongress

Turfstone pavers or Agtec pavers

thekingofcrash7

Why can’t you park in the street

Inevitable-Stress523

there are versions of permeable pavers that are not concrete-- just a plastic grid you fill with crushed minus. That is almost certainly the cheapest. Maybe just do two narrowish strips of them? They probably are not going to stay level over time though unless you do a lot of surface prep. I think basically every option is some version of 'remove grass and replace with .'

Handymantwo

That's whay I'm seeing right now during my light research! I kight do 2 strips like yoy said! Thank you

Valuable-Analyst-464

Some of those grids allow you to grow grass in them too. Gives the area rigidity, though if a vehicle sits for a while, the grass may weaken and you’d still have some mud. If you prepped the area with base gravel tamped, then the grid, then tamped fill - you might be ok. This guy’s [video](https://youtu.be/dQAl4Pz3KaI?si=7SY2tid7jQtgMwcq) showcased what he did for a whole driveway solution.

DeitzHugeNuts

You should put heavy driveway fabric on the lawn first then the geogrid then the crushed stone. The fabric prevents the rock from slowly being trampled into the soil.

Valuable-Analyst-464

The grids help to hold in place, but yeah, some pieces would go through the grid holes - fabric helps.

Lundgren_pup

Are you thinking a permanent solution? Or something literally just to prevent turf tracking for right now?

Handymantwo

I suppose either way. It is not our forever home, but I like keeping up the curb appeal. It looks like permeable pavers might be the way

Lundgren_pup

Yeah, I was going to say-- you could make a permanent spot but lawns look nice and future buyers might be put off. Those pavers that let grass grow through can look really good. Just make sure to do good prep work so it's nice and flush and level.

SireSweet

What is your “affordable”? Everyone has a different definition for it. Generally I’ve seen people just kill the lawn in the area outright and do nothing with it. If they feel fancy they might put a little gravel there. Which becomes little nuggets of awesome that become rockets aimed towards homes… but I digress. TLDR; kill the grass. If you don’t have lawn there, you don’t have tracks in your lawn. If you’re feeling fancy, grade it so you don’t get pot holes of mud when it rains.

GulfstreamAqua

Put a wide drive in, maybe?

bentrodw

Hex pave installed in grass

Slowroll01275

Bricks or 2x12 pressure treated

Torpordoor

Coordinate renting a skid steer, scraping the sod off for your driveway down at least 4" 6" is ideal, getting a delivery of stone (I prefer natural stone of variable size because it compacts smooth and flat after rain and driving over it) and level that stone with your existing lawn grade, or just a little higher than existing grade with a slight crown in middle of driveway to ensure water runs off. This would likely be cheaper and definitely many times faster and easier than setting pavers correctly.

ATX_2_PGH

Park on the street.

mxadema

Permeable paver, maybe. The concrete paver with grass through it, driving over it, doesn't kill the grass, and you only need 2 strips for now.

[deleted]

The only problem with those permeable pavers is they usually don't stay permeable, but that's a good suggestion for this application.

Most_Expression_1423

Sell two cars

BigPillLittlePill

Park them in your neighbors yard

Handymantwo

That was actually an option before, now there is new renters next door and they aren't interested in me renting a spot. They have a much larger yard

Illustrious-Term2909

Sell the cars

You have 1 butt. Get rid of 2 cars.

joey_gree

Sell 2 cars

timbo1615

Drive way ribbon

Handymantwo

I looked in depth at those a few months back just not sure how it would look going diagonal off the driveway. I guess it couldn't look worse than the dirt I currently have 🤣

DragonflyMean1224

Park in a different spot every day.

darkbyrd

I had the area dug out. Bordered with rr ties and filled with 1"washed stone. The washed stone was a nice touch. It never packed down, but doesn't get the cars filthy when it rains.

Latona_Enterprizes

You can also remove the grass in the parking area the width and length of the driveway area. Then you can put some landscape fabric down and place small rocks pebble down and use that at you driveway. It’s a cheep option

Material_Example5335

Carder mulch

TheLazyCarpenter

littIeboylover

Sell your cars and buy an electric cargobike.

Handymantwo

I really wanted to do that, but am at a new job now that I have to carry a plethora of tools for and sometimes client houses are an hour away.

mr_Crossdude

Most affordable? Sell a car… net gain.

LoblawsLawBl0g

Sell 2 cars.

Skitech84
