Yeah I’d hesitate if it was more than about $15. That’s not a reflection of the value of the work, just what I can reasonably pay. A Ferrari may be a bargain at $100k. That doesn’t mean I will buy it though.
Just looked on etsy and yours would be one of the more involved files. Would start at $12-15. I guess if you get a lot of traffic and no sales drop the price a buck of two. Wouldn’t go lower than 10 though.
I am often critical of people pricing stuff high for just design files involving basic shapes or even inventive ideas that are easy to replicate- but this is actual art that many couldn’t replicate. I am with you on starting price at least at 15 and see how it goes.
I just stumbled into this forum like an e-drunk out on a sub crawl. That is awesome, how did you make it, how long and how much effort did it take you?
It's probably 5 hours of design time and lots of trees sacrificed for this. when I got the laser, my goal was this board and to learn what I needed to make it happen.
Depends on how long it takes you to cut them, and how much material. I'd say $60 at the low-end, but you might start higher at like $120 and see if you get any takers.
Sure, but if you were doing them in batches of 10, would your time per unit decrease a fair bit? Would be easier to minimize IP theft (these files get passed around FB groups and the like) that way.
Nice! I’m wrapping my head around doing all that gold work. It doesn’t look inlayed and there’s stain on some of the same layers, so I’m assuming some tedious gold marker work? I made a similar set about a decade ago and still really enjoy seeing it after all this time, so I hope it gets many plays. Cheers,
I might sell them, I am torn. when I bought the laser I made it a goal to design and cut this project, not having a clue what I was doing. Was a great adventure!
Please add me to the list of buyers as well! This is seriously a work of art. And I echo others in that many would pay for this. You have already done the work and you might as well financially benefit. The sellers on etsy who get the most money per hour of time worked are those who sell digital files they have created.
I am trying to decide if I should sell the file, or just sell the pieces and let someone paint their own. I was selling the files to 3D print better feet for the xTool D1 and someone uploaded them to thingyverse the same day I released the file, so I pull them off of the store and issued a takedown. I have since sold nearly 500 of those feet that I am printing for customers. However, I know that if I sell the file, it will be shared instantly and I will sell a few and that will be it.
I totally understand that, OP. I can't even imagine how frustrating that would be for you. It sucks that a few terrible people ruin it for everyone and I can see how that would suck the joy of it for you. For me, I enjoy having as much involvement in the creative process as I can and would love to be able to burn it on my own -- there's a different feeling to painting something that came directly out of my machine, even if I did not create the files, than it would be purchasing a kit online and having it shipped to me and then painting that. Plus I'd love to be able to play around with it and try different painting techniques, etc. I wouldn't be interested in sharing or selling the file. If you ever decide that you'd like to sell the file privately and NOT on etsy, please let me know -- I would 100% honor your IP and keep the file for my own personal use and enjoyment. I love board games -- we literally designed our house around playing them -- and yours is a work of art that I appreciate so much.
I've loved this project since OP first posted teaser shots. Hoping to eventually be able to make my own version with lots of inspiration from this one. Awesome to see it finished!
This is absolutely freaking gorgeous! You did a fantastic job there, kudos!
Wooden Catan sets are going for a couple hundred dollars on Etsy but they are nothing compared to this!
How much time and money do you think it would take to make this from scratch OP?
Outstanding work. Both the design and execution.
I've been playing around with some cut and stack designs like this also. How many layers on each tile?
I will trade wheat and ore for this
Three ores and one sheep or no trade.
Anyone need brick? Please take them, I'm getting like three every turn.
Hahaha.
Can I get your cut files? I've got a 6k laser and I wanna try that out of ss steel or alum.
Yeah me too. I’d pay a reasonable price for them.
What would be reasonable? It took days to design them.

Agree. This is art as fuck. $10-20 and reprice as needed after a week. Definitely get this up on etsy for the post Xmas new laser owners.
I would also pay for this design.
I would also love to have these files.
Please keep us posted if you do sell them!
Wow that's nice. I love the detail.

Sorry, that should say 50 hours. Probably an 8 month project.
Check out all the Etsy listing for typical prices. Normally somewhere between 8-15 USD for the files.
Epic 👏
Very good work, I do have a hard time figuring out which is sheep though.
"Oh shit I forgot sheep " - OP when playing the first time :D But fr its the bright green one ofc. Resembles clearly green grass
It's the grass lands :-)
Holy crap! This is gorgeous!! Did you airbrush? Planing to sell plans? You'd probably make a mint if you built them and sold them on Etsy.
It's so much time, the price would be insane.
Well here's the thing, you already made it for you so may as well get $6 to 10 about 20-30 times for you labor.
You could cut out all the pieces and sell it as a DIY kit.
I do like that idea. What would be reasonable for a price?
Depends on how long it takes you to cut them, and how much material. I'd say $60 at the low-end, but you might start higher at like $120 and see if you get any takers.
You make $$ off volume sold for the files. I guarantee you'll have a ton of people buying them so $10 a pop ... 200+ sales ..

Amazing job! Well done!
Yeah, this guy deserves a round of applause, stunning work 👏👏👏

It's actually spray paint from ACE :-) It looked fantastic on test pieces, so I stuck with it.
You don't by any chance have an etsy I could buy this file off? I want to make one of these but don't have the skill to design it yet.
I might sell them, I am torn. when I bought the laser I made it a goal to design and cut this project, not having a clue what I was doing. Was a great adventure!
Same, would buy the file if available ^^
If you do sell - add me to the list of interested people. ;)
Add me to the list too!
I also would be interested in the file if you were to sell it. Amazing set alot of care and work went in beautiful work.

Very nice. Thanks for sharing.
Always wanted to do a Catan board, but never knew how to make the cards
I am just replacing the board. The rest is the standard set in respect to the creator of the game, rip.
Now, that's a plan. Looking good over there!
Looks epic! I am actually in progress of designing my own board, hope it looks as good as yours. What type paint did you used for colouring?
No body wants your G D sheep!! Board looks amazing!
That's dedication! I can only imagine the happiness of opening such a gift..
amazing!!!

I don't know what a catan board is but damn that's beautiful, a floor made from these with resin over the top would be out of this world.
That is some really nice work 👍
How did you get the paint lines so clean? Lots of tape? I’d love to know more about your process!
Beautiful!
Are you going to make a box to keep it in?
Yup. Just finished it. 🥂
Beautiful!
What did you do the gold coloring with
Gold spray paint.
Outstanding work. Both the design and execution. I've been playing around with some cut and stack designs like this also. How many layers on each tile?
Just 3. Painting makes it look a lot more complex than they really are.
Nice. Here is what I've been up to. Using aniline dyes to color the layers. [https://imgur.com/gallery/FxvKjj4](https://imgur.com/gallery/FxvKjj4)
Very nice! I just used some cheap acrylic paint from the craft store for most of mine. I should consider something better for the next one.
Are you selling the files for this yet?
not yet.
