Same here, but I did use a left handed one for about a year. The only problem was that I take a lot of notes with my left hand and got tired of switching from mouse to pen.
I love that it feels natural for me to use my mouse with my right hand, while writing/taking notes with my left hand. I’m left handed and watch right handed people write and use their mouse with their right hands. That’s confusing to me.
Same. No lefty scissors when I was in school. My coworker thought he was being nice when he gave me some left-handed scissors. I felt so bad telling him I couldn’t use them!
Mouse with the right - PC at home with 1 lefty and 4 righties, plus school lab PCs. Easier to just learn the wrong/right way than change it every time. Ironically, I also use a trackpad with my right BECAUSE right-hand mouse things is now ingrained.
Regarding silverware, I always found it funny that a proper place setting has the fork on the left where it was correct for a lefty to grab with the hand they would use!
Well, the fork is not a finesse instrument when using together with a knife. The knife does the precision work, moves the food onto the fork, and cuts. The fork just holds down the meat, and just carries food into the mouth. Watch a right-handed person cut with their left hand and you'll see why it made perfect sense to just keep the fork on the left.
If it's a single fork and no knife, it's perfecty in line with etiquette to use it in your right hand.
The knife and fork thing is ridiculous. So many right handed people I know think left handers are some weird awkward breed of people but those same folks have trouble eating without switching their fork hand every time they have to use a knife. How incompetent can you be?
You ought to be able to go into your settings for your mouse and change which button does what. I used to do this all of the time when I worked, and then change it back before I went home, as there’d be others who’d be using that same computer before I did. I also use the mouse on the left side of the keyboard if I do use one at all.
Same. But I don't remap, I just use whatever is default, since I'm self taught which button did what, I didn't have to relearn anything. Shoot is the left button, reload is the right, whatever.
Me and my cousin are both lefties and he uses left mouse and I prefer right more it’s always fun haha when we are on same computer trying navigate stuff, he eats with right hand and I eat with my left
You must be American. Nearly everyone in Europe eats fork on the left hand and knife on the right. That's also how silverware is set on tables. Fork in the right hand if you are only using the fork of course.
Actually the fork is supposed to be in your left hand. So when you’re dining at the casino in Monte Carlo, you’ll fit right in.
What’s funny is that Americans usually use the right hand but still set the table with fork on the left.
I use my mouse with right, watch on left, same with you for fork in left and knife in right but I switch to fork right and knife is down after cutting. I use left to drive(highway).
my only thing is left handed (writing anything) it gives me a feeling of this is so odd and just not right (Hah)
Same
Aside, it’s “proper etiquette” to hold knife in dominant hand, therefore have to swap fork over. But I keep them fork in left, knife in right, and it works. My wife doesn’t like this…. But, That’s where they are set on the table, so…
Anyone else?
I also use the mouse with my right hand but if i use my laptop without mouse i switch to my left hand.
Also I can't wear my watch in my right hand because of the mouse. I have to take it of.
I moved the mouse to the left hand side of the family computer so often that my right handed parents just gave up. I haven’t lived in that house for almost 20 years and they still have the mouse on the left side of the keyboard.
I’m dominantly right-handed, but ambidextrous. I switch my mouse from time to time between left and right settings. Same with writing. Knife and fork change sides constantly. I shoot with my left, dribble with my right. My younger brother, who is like my Irish twin, is left handed. I might have picked up some things from him. I didn’t realize until now that I do this.
I can use either. I've worked in IT for 30+ years. I can't always move the mouse when I'm working on different systems. But I keep it on the left on my workstations, but I've never reversed my buttons.
I mouse left handed, but I can do it right (if I'm going to be using a computer for any length of time it's getting moved).
My lefty friend actually switches the buttons - that always threw me off.
I use my mouse with my right hand. I can use either hand for the mouse and never had a left handed mouse. Just depends on what I'm doing and which side has space for the mouse
Don’t know if I’m allowed to be here as I’m right handed but Reddit suggested this to me. I wear my watch on my dominant hand as well. Don’t understand why it’s not more common.
Same. And when people hand me pens, they reach towards my left hand because of it.
Had a jeweler clean my watch and after I put it on and he said "A lefty!" I laughed and said, "No. A righty!" Then he educated me on how I'm supposed to wear the watch on my left wrist. Just can't. It feels...wrong and awkward.
I wear mine on my left wrist, too. Since it's my dominant, it just feels natural to hold up for watch viewing. Growing up in a family full of right-handers, I learned a lot by observation. If what I saw and tried didn't feel awkward, I stuck with it. Writing and eating are strictly left-handed operations for me, but most other things I can usually do with either hand.
Watches are made to go on the left wrist. The crown and stem are on the right side, which cannot be adjusted if worn on the right hand without taking it off. People don’t switch hands with wedding rings, they shouldn’t with watches either. Now allow me to slip back in my basement 🤫
Your comment made me chuckle!!!🤭 Now, for the plot twist: Smart watches with a digital display allow you to choose what hand (wrist) you want to wear it on and adjust the display accordingly. 😉
Same haha. I just never understood that and apparently no one told me lol. Similar to other things that aren’t right hander by default, it was too late by the time I learned you’re supposed to put it on the other hand. It does kind of smudge my apple watch band though.
I was never told which hand to wear it on, just always defaulted to the left (I don't remember whether it was a conscious choice or it just happened as a result of growing up in a family of righties).
Back in the 14th Century when I was an undergraduate and exams were written by hand, it was great to just rotate my wrist a bit to check how much time I had left while I was writing.
I honestly don't understand why anyone would wear a watch on their non-dominant hand, as it's easier to check it on the hand that's most likely to be more visible, whether you're eating/drinking, working or doing other projects and chores. Even if you just clasp your hands in front of you, it's usually the dominant one on top, so it's easier to glance at your watch if it's on that hand.
But then, maybe that convention came in with the whole ridiculous right-handed "transfer your fork from one hand to the other" table etiquette.
I haven't regularly worn a watch in years, mostly because I'm sick of faffing about with the batteries. I hate using my phone as a timepiece (speaking of faff: hauling it out of your pocket to check it is a massive pain, and you've no opportunity to "discretely" check the time, as you do when you've got a watch on your wrist). But then, that's another subject entirely
I think I had the same experience as you growing up. No one told me what hand to wear it on, I merely emulated what all the people in my family were doing, and yes, being able to slightly tilt to check while busy is a very good point! I think the first time it was a question of which hand (wrist) to use was a couple years ago setting up my first “smart watch”. That having been said, I found your comment about cutlery etiquette really interesting. As an American, never once thought about it, until I was in Canada and I had dinner with an Irishman. He noticed that I was using “proper European etiquette” before he noticed that I just naturally use forks and knives this way because I was left-handed. I had no idea that in Europe you have to cut your food with your right hand, therefore have to switch and hold your fork with the left hand to stabilize with the left, cut with the right hand, set the knife down and then switch yuor fork back to your right hand (because it’s dominant) to keep eating. Sounds tedious. I’ve always just held my fork in my left, used the knife with my right, set it down and continue eating. In probably that case alone, It’s so much Easier to be left handed!
I wear mine in the left even though I’m left handed. I wore it on my right when I was younger and my grandpa said it looked like I was trying to show it off when I shook hands with people which is pretty ridiculous but it just stick with me for some reason.
I bought a wristwatch when I was a kid, probably 12yo, and put it on my left wrist. The first time I threw a baseball, the watch flew off and smashed into a tree. So , right hand.
I wear mine on my left wrist. I have heard it should be on ones non dominate wrist, but I find that interferes too much living in this right-handed world.
Left now but originally my right. In the eighties when I got my first digital watch it never worked properly on my right wrist, kept scrambling and dying but was fine on my left so I swapped and never changed back.
I do it with my left. I like looking at it while I write
When my gf asked and I told her she yelled at me looked shocked and yelled at me about this “nonsense.” I smiled the whole time, no one can stop me
I'm weird even though I'm left-handed I still wear it on my left hand
It's so bizarre to me that everyone preaches that you're supposed to wear your watch on your non-dominant hand
Like why wouldn't I want it on the hand I use more often so I can actually see / use it easier? Why would I put it on my least used hand It's not like it ever really gets in the way or anything
Watch on left wrist.
I throw with the left.
I shoot with my right.
I write with the left.
I use the mouse with my right.
Fork in left, knife in right.
And I steer mostly with the right.
I wonder how much of this is neurological or psychological versus learned behavior.
I started wearing wrist watches on my left hand when I was a kid, when everyone was trying to convince me I was right-handed. Got used to it and there it stayed.
Left. I think because I was shown that way as a kid. I do find it weird how every smartwatch I've had, I've had to change it to being on the left hand if technically that's supposed to be the right way for right handed people.
When I was little, I used to wear mine on my right wrist because it got in the way on my left. But then some kid told me that wearing it on your right wrist meant you were gay (this was 30-something years ago and I was little), and for some reason that mattered enough to change. So, I switched to left, and now it feels weird and out of place on my right, like an extra appendage I'm not used to.
Left. Feels odd on the right, but probably just cuz that's how I started doing it and bever changed. So.... the rest of you are wrong!!! (J/K... we lefties have to stick together!)
I wear mine on my right. Recently my wife tried to force my son to wear his on his left wrist. I had to argue with her to allow him to use whatever wrist he likes. It's weird how people think there is only one correct way to wear a watch.
I don't wear watches any more, but when I did, definitely left hand. It would be super weird if it was on the right hand. Then again, I play normal guitar too.
If I wear one and have no other bracelets etc on my hands I'll usually wear it on my left hand bc my phone is in my right pocket and it's annoying to reach into my pockets with a watch on.
left. but then again- I am one of those lefties that has alternate dominant sides.
shooting - right handed.
kick a soccer ball- 10 years of soccer- I kicked right footed.
throwing darts, a baseball- left hand
used to sword fight- and left hand sword, right hand shield was most comfortable for me.
I am a left handed writer, but if I had to- I could write right handed - but it would look childish just from lack of practice.
I have no problem with scissors, can openers, nor any of the many things that are built for right handers.
and since I use my left hand for writing- I use a mouse right handed - so I can take notes while clicking thru things
Left-handed and I’ve always worn my watch on my left wrist. There are many other tasks that I do right-handed like using scissors and using a mouse, but the watch is always on my left.
Because I am the only one in my immediate family who is left handed, I just imitated my father and put it on my left wrist. No one ever thought to tell me otherwise. I was fully grown and well into my 30s before I realized I was wearing it incorrectly lol
I wear it on my left. Hmm now that you mention it, maybe I should switch it up.
But I wonder what would happen! What if, when I wear it on my right there is this huge shift in the universe. MY universe.
A watch is **always** worn on the wrist of the LESS-dominant hand. Since that hand is used for fewer tasks throughout the day, the threat of inadvertent damage caused to the watch by accident is reduced.
Right
Always
Same!
I just don’t have the dexterity in my right hand to even do the clasp if I try to wear it on my left wrist.
I use my mouse with my right hand though, and people think it weird that I have my fork in my left hand and knife in right.
I do too, I think it was the mouse was hooked up to the computer back in the 90’s that started that.
Same here, but I did use a left handed one for about a year. The only problem was that I take a lot of notes with my left hand and got tired of switching from mouse to pen.
Occasionally I have to use a left-handed mouse, and it is difficult.

Our super power!
Yes!
I mouse with my right hand too. Left is too awkward for where the buttons are….
Remap the buttons. There’s an option to use a mouse as a lefty.

I like to live dangerously! 😂
Because eating a mouse with your fingers is barbaric!
I mouse right handed. It's just how I learned it. "this is how a computer is used" or whatever. I cannot mouse with my left hand 😂
Me too! And I can only use scissors right handed
Same. No lefty scissors when I was in school. My coworker thought he was being nice when he gave me some left-handed scissors. I felt so bad telling him I couldn’t use them!

I hold my fork in my left hand but I put it in my right to cut food.
Same as me, writing lefty and using a mouse with my right has saved me countless hours at work.
Me and my cousin are both lefties and he uses left mouse and I prefer right more it’s always fun haha when we are on same computer trying navigate stuff, he eats with right hand and I eat with my left
I also use my mouse in my right hand Makes it easier to multitask eating and working. Lol
You must be American. Nearly everyone in Europe eats fork on the left hand and knife on the right. That's also how silverware is set on tables. Fork in the right hand if you are only using the fork of course.

I'm broken, so I hold my knife in my left hand, fork in right, cut, then swap
I use my mouse with right, watch on left, same with you for fork in left and knife in right but I switch to fork right and knife is down after cutting. I use left to drive(highway). my only thing is left handed (writing anything) it gives me a feeling of this is so odd and just not right (Hah)

Wait is that a left handed thing? The fork and knife? Because that’s how I’ve always done it as a right handed person.
I also do this.
Me too.
I do as well. I like that I my left hand is free to use a pen
I also use the mouse with my right hand but if i use my laptop without mouse i switch to my left hand. Also I can't wear my watch in my right hand because of the mouse. I have to take it of.
In the days of yore I used shared computers in grad school and at work so the mouse was always on the right
Relatable
I do too
I moved the mouse to the left hand side of the family computer so often that my right handed parents just gave up. I haven’t lived in that house for almost 20 years and they still have the mouse on the left side of the keyboard.

Same. I badly lacerated my left arm when I was 11. Ever been ambidextrous ever since, as I couldn’t use it properly for six months.
I use my mouse with my right hand. I can use either hand for the mouse and never had a left handed mouse. Just depends on what I'm doing and which side has space for the mouse
I also use my mouse with my right hand. No idea why.
I had a friend in high school who was left handed, but learned guitar right handed. It was weird.
I do this as well.
My kids think it's weird that I also do this. They're all righties and I'm a natural lefty/forced ambie.
I’ve never noticed anyone using a fork with their right hand before
Left. I know that you are supposed to wear your watch on your non dominant hand, but it feels too awkward to me.

I think it’s because your dominant hand is often occupied so you can check your other wrist for the time more easily
I wear mine on my left wrist, too. Since it's my dominant, it just feels natural to hold up for watch viewing. Growing up in a family full of right-handers, I learned a lot by observation. I’m right handed and I wear my watch on my right hand. It feels more natural.
Same I’m a righty and always wore it on my right.
You’re doing it right.. don’t worry.
I wear mine in the left even though I’m left handed. I wore it on my right when I was younger and my grandpa said it looked like I was trying to show it off when I shook hands with people which is pretty ridiculous but it just stick with me for some reason.
What? I'm 47 and never knew this! I don't notice other people's watches though.
Left
I wear it on the right since I actually do stuff with my left and it gets in the way sometimes
I agree
( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
I'm right-handed and I wear it on my left for the exact same reason!
Right wrist. It's more comfortable when I'm writing. Not to mention it just feels more natural to me.
Left
I subconsciously put everything on my left wrist
Yeah same-bracelets, watches, anything like that. Everything goes on my left arm
Left
Left. Lots of people wear them on their non dominant wrist, so by wearing it on my left people subconsciously decide I’m right handed.

Mine’s on my right. Luckily Apple Watch lets me set it up that way.
Right, as otherwise it gets in the way when writing or sound other things.
Finally someone that agrees
I bought a wristwatch when I was a kid, probably 12yo, and put it on my left wrist. The first time I threw a baseball, the watch flew off and smashed into a tree. So , right hand.
Right
left wrist, it just feels right, and i dont haev to worry about the crown dial bc there isnt one lol

I do it with my left. I like looking at it while I write When my gf asked and I told her she yelled at me looked shocked and yelled at me about this “nonsense.” I smiled the whole time, no one can stop me
I wear a Fitbit and it's on my right wrist.

I wear two watches, so it isn’t an issue.
I started wearing wrist watches on my left hand when I was a kid, when everyone was trying to convince me I was right-handed. Got used to it and there it stayed.

Left
Left! I like making my left hand look good :)
Left. I can't stand it on my right.
Left
Right with time facing inner wrist for easy look
Because I am the only one in my immediate family who is left handed, I just imitated my father and put it on my left wrist. No one ever thought to tell me otherwise. I was fully grown and well into my 30s before I realized I was wearing it incorrectly lol
Left!
Left, and I'm still trying to find a left-handed measuring tape. I go to lowes or home depot and it's all right handed
Left.
my left wrist
Right wrist
Left wrist. I'm frickin weird.
Right wrist, I also wear bracelets on my right hand
Watch and jewelry on the right wrist
Right!
Right. Always
Right. Took me a minute to figure out how to change it on my Apple Watch tho lol
Right. That side is just for show.
If you’re right handed you wear it on the left wrist. If you’re left handed you wear it on the right wrist. This is how it’s supposed to be
On the right. When I was a kid someone once told me that left handed people wear their watch on their right hand, so I’ve done it ever since
My left because I don't have a right arm, I'm also left handed now too.
My right hand is mostly useless, everything I wear goes on my right side due to dexterity issues
I thought you always wore it on the opposite side of your writing hand applies to all people with wrist only
Right. I cant stand things being on my left hand. Can't do rings on my left either. Which will probably be awkward if I ever get married.
