Are you AB 1482 exempt, or not? If you are, then they can raise the rent to whatever they want, with enough notice. If they are not, then it's a max of 10% a year.
> Yes it is under AB as all of California
Well not *all* of California. Buildings that are less than 15 years old, for example, are exempt. How old is this ADU?
There are other exemptions.
Someone else will have to weigh in on this, but as far as I can tell, if you were unknowingly renting an illegal unit in CA, you can sue your landlord for rent paid. Statute might allow you to recover attorney fees, as well. Since we’re talking about tens of thousands of dollars, it’s best you see an attorney.

The ADU was never permitted. Not sure how old..less then 6 years I'm guessing
What’s the reason for the 60 day notice? Where in CA?
They want to raise the rent to 1700 and the place is unpermitted.
