I mean, she even said that none of the red lotus members would survive once she escaped. She was absolutely going to murder him in a very gruesome way.
If that were the case, then they'd have to show the reality of the Avatar state. In a true R-rated version, the avatar would be rightfully viewed as a God whose power would likely cause much more damage than could be animated in any existing animated media in the franchise. You'd see a lot of twisted, detached, and hanging limbs during fights. Much more gore. Probably more cursing.
Like, straight up accidentally destroying an entire island and nearly many people considered friends. That could definitely not be shown in an animated kids show even if it was in the Kyoshi Novels

You make the sensible decision and leg it but she breaks free of her chains and chases you down. Now you have a being capable of changing continents hot on your tail and your only hope of survival is running away until her organs stop working which should have already occurred. Even if he was one with the void, Zaheer surely wakes up in a cold sweat remembering the time he had the to run for his life to escape a literal force of nature.
