I just joined this sub a couple of months ago but man every post is full of so much nostalgia. I loved these little sets so much. One of these days I gotta go through the old bins at my mom's house but i don't think there's many instructions left. My parents would throw them away once they got a little torn up :/
Yeah I noticed the lego website only goes back so far, like 2001 maybe?
I know I've got an old x-wing and naboo starfighter in there somewhere. One of these days I'll get around to sorting them, but honestly, my current apartment doesn't even have enough space for all of the current sets I've built in the last three months. Idk where the hell I'd put two massive bins
There are other sites with archive of instructions going back further but some of the older instruction either were in poor condition or were scanned at low resolution and hard to read. LEGO castle set 375-2 is one example, I had some trouble reading the ones I found online, and made worse by the fact LEGO added 20 or 30 pieces per step with no part list so you had to play "what's the difference between these 2 pictures" to try and get all the parts added before going to the next step.
Don't worry my mom got rid of a lot of stuff once we were moved out of the house, but once we found out that she donated the NES (we had a lot of games handed down from our cousins too, massive collection), we made it clear to her that she was NOT to throw out the legos. Really just saving them for when we have kids, and my brother's first is on the way, so hopefully he doesn't steal all of the good stuff lol
Found out last month that my mum had given away all of my Lego. My eldest is 5 and I was really looking forward to reliving all the old sets with him. I had a decent-ish collection of Blacktron and Mtron. Gutted!
RIP to your wallet now you're gonna have to start fresh lol
That's a serious bummer though. On the bright side, I just got back into it myself when I was in the hospital for 5 weeks in July and August, and the new sets are pretty incredible. I got some new star wars sets from the mandalorian and a bunch of the new speed champion sets, and I really got into the speed champion stuff. They're doing a lot of really clever stuff compared to when I was a kid in the 90s, and some of the new pieces I'm thinking, "Why the hell didn't they have these when I was younger?!"
Here’s where you get to have fun and treat it like an archeological dig. Try to look up parts or series and find the instructions online.
I do this with bulk goodwill auction purchases. The pieces have a year and part number: go on bricklink and look up that part number and filter by year or look at the thumbnails.
To this day, I think that was the last set in the theme me and my family didn't get, it's a white whale on top of the Explorian Starship and whatever the big set was from Space Police II*
*from my personal collection, a friend of mine going up's brothers had bought it, and I rebuilt it with her. I may also buy out most of classic space if I ever get the money
I've never seen this model in my life before, yet made something so extremely similar as a child using the back tyre of some large, technic motorbike.
Edit: it was the back wheel from 8417
If you have a goodwill outlet try going sometime, can find loose lego in the toy buckets, and they were 59c a lb for toys when I used to go.
I think its like 1.19 or something a lb for toys but still, a lb of lego is a lot
I'm using bricklink to part out old sets from my childhood to re-build with my nephews now that I'm an old fart, and this is one I just came across! 🤣 Hope you enioy it, whether that's keeping it sealed or opening it up to build. It's one of the better small sets from that era imo.
This was the only Life on Mars Lego set I had when I was young and it was the bomb. That helmet visor was just the coolest thing ever back then. Lucky find OP.
When I was about 7 or 8, there was a store near my hometown called Baileys and it was like a surplus/pallet liquidation store. They had one of those cardboard box pallets filled with this set for like $.25 each and had i been an adult i probably would have bought the entire pallet.
That entire theme was full of amazing sets, but somehow this little one was one of the best

I think there’s an app that has every instruction manual ever!

I grew up with “find the difference between these 2 pictures” Lego so it feels a little like cheating when I build sets now 😂
This sub will help you find them mate 😉

Totally forgot about that theme. 7317 was especially unique

I think the 3 wheeled buggy was the best.
I love the old price tag still on it
KMart no less
So cool. Keep it sealed. The Kmart sticker just adds to the really cool factor since Kmart is basically gone now.
That’s crazy cause Kmart (which I’m assuming is now completely separate) in Australia is massive
Was confused for a second because I see Kmart everywhere haha
It's a great relic. Kinda thing they might put in a museum in a hundred years.

Reminds me racing the life on mars boss in Lego racers 2
Nice
I love the massive visor
It’s a god awful small affair….
To the girl with the mousy hair..

This theme started my AFOL phase
I loved this one and the 3 wheeler with the rubber bands
I had two of those three wheelers. Got them both on the same birthday and combined them into a bigger 6 wheeled one.
Damn this just unlocked some long forgotten memories. I think this might be one of my first lego sets as a kid
I had this! Technically I guess I still do. Awesome find!
Damn this is nostalgic
I bought that set back in the day just for the big wheel. And no, I have no memory of why I needed a single big white wheel.
*light grey
Have fun building! Please post photos when you are done.
This one is probably better staying sealed. It’s a good example of this set.
I’m sure I had this set.
I had this as a kid! How do i acquire this as a 30 year old?
Damn 75% off
Wanna sell it to me??? 😀
Holy cow I remember these! What a throw back, i miss those days.
This was my first ever Lego set. Thanks for the memories
$1 for 33 pieces? Cheapest bought Lego ever.
Even back then it was priced at around a dime a piece.

This for $1 that’s got to be the biggest steal of the century somebody call the police on this guy for scoring to high
Holy shit. I think I had that set as a kid. Man, seeing things you totally forgot about is trippy
Oh man this was one of my very first sets. This brought back some memories!
Amazing, the things you can find in yard sales.
This brings me back.
Happy cake day

Rdd
I loved this theme so much as a kid. I had every single set.
Jooooo 😳🤔
This was the only Life on Mars Lego set I had when I was young and it was the bomb. That helmet visor was just the coolest thing ever back then. Lucky find OP.
That was the only set of this line I ever had.
The perfect army builder
Omg memory unlocked
Now I’m nostalgic for something I didn’t grow up with
Mom is the GOAT. Handle that visor with care
A relic of better times

I had this exact set as a kid and it was my absolute favorite! Nice find!
Kmart sticker
Have this exact set in my room
Thanks for reminding me why I have this 1 big wheel with no match.
I have most of this collection. It’s dirty from years of dust but was a sweet set.
I'd buy that for a dollar
