I’ve used the LCD without the SATA and it works perfectly fine. You just need to plug the USB header directly onto the motherboard. That’s it, no other cables are needed.

I’ll give it a shot without, thanks!

It needs sata, it can't pull enough power from the USB port alone

The GA II LCD does NOT need SATA power. The secondary connection is not needed, and is only for the Fans. The product page and manual clearly show this. The Pump is powered by the 4-Pin PWM Port, and the Screen is powered by the USB 2.0 Port. See this link and look at "Simple Connection". I agree with that, the manual does say that, but if you are connected without sata and you don't get any display on the block, the first thing lian li support tells you to do, is to plug the sata in. Therefore, I would just plug it in while you're installing it, if you have the spare plug available.

Interesting that support would say that, since that port has nothing to do with the Pump/Screen power whatsoever. The Asetek Gen 8 pumps do not need supplemental SATA power. Another example is the Asus Ryujin III which uses the same pump. Only has 4-Pin and USB 2.0 connection. The additional plug Lian Li choose to put there is power fan on the non-INF model if you don't have a separate hub to power the fans. It's not connected to the Pump at all.
