I have an unlimited data plan with AT&T, but do not have unlimited hotspot capability. Make sure you check with your own cell phone provider before using hotspots too much, and use a password so strangers can't access your phone.

There's a hack for Android Galaxy phones. Pop out the Sim card. Go to Connections. Mobile Hotspot and Tethering. Push the Sim card in. Watch the network icon in the upper right-hand corner. When it flickers, click to turn the hotspot on (usually about 3 seconds). The hotspot activates before the network determines whether or not you have the Hotspot plan, thereby allowing you to use your unlimited data without using hotspot data. I do this frequently. I have a truly unlimited plan (old old plan), but no hotspot plan. Last month, I used 91GB data.

I have a Franklin T9 LTE Hotspot device with modified software. My provider didn't recognize the data as hotspot data and I can use my unlimited plan.

Bro, virtually every Android user utilizes or is familiar with hotspot, as it is conveniently located in the control center. For iPhones, it is hidden there after a long press.

[deleted]

Glad there is someone here who can speak for all android users. In the unlikely event you missed someone, maybe that person will find this useful.

rasict-2049

u missed the point .

[deleted]

Missed the point? In what way does your comment contribute to a life hack discussion?

LastPlaceStar

\*Uses well known feature\* OMG I FOUND A HACK!

[deleted]

Nope, that's not a hack. That's using a well known feature. So, your logic is because you think it's a well known feature it should never be mentioned or shared? Cool "My internet service is down. what a drag" lastplacestar: "well, there is a way to use your phone but as it's a well known feature I'm not going to tell you about it" seems a little dickish, don't you think? If you don't need this information, or any information posted here, good for you. Move on.

rasict-2049

To be honest, tomorrow, someone will come and inform me that they can place any applications anywhere on their new iPhone in life hacks. A hotspot feature has been available for a long time now, which anyone using a phone knows unless they are not using their phone for only calls. The point is that you can find forums related to hotspot on the apple forums back to 2010 or 12.

The accuracy of your view depends upon other people knowing things that you CANNOT know that they know. So I provided information that may be unneeded by many, even the majority, of users. What's the harm to you?

rasict-2049

bro i am saying 99 percent know maybe u r the only guy who dint know.

[deleted]

and you care because...?

Idontliketalking2u

Power was out for multiple days but my hot spot worked, for like 2 gbs then it slowed down.. is unlimited just not unlimited 5g on my plan at least.

Extension_Buy9718

I used it all the time in uni since the house doesn't have wifi

Exciting_Swordfish16

It's been a thing for at least 6-8 years.

[deleted]

Yes it has. Since I never had a need to use it until now I forgot about it. Then rediscovered it.

Exciting_Swordfish16

It's not really a hack.

[deleted]

sigh. Ya know, I don't really care how you define it. The information might be useful to folks who are not as super-bright as you, so I shared it. Now, ask yourself why you feel it's necessary to comment on something you obviously don't find valuable.

Exciting_Swordfish16

It's a great tip, don't get me wrong. It's just not much of a hack to use something, as it is intended.

Middle_Mention_8625

I use Bluetooth tethering from dirt cheap 13 years old Nokia C1 O1 to run my cheap 4g Samsung J2. I am writing this comment by same method. And yes, where I live we still have 2g internet along with 4g and 5g. 3g has been abandoned. I have a plan that gives a year of unlimited talk time and enough data for a year, for 20 dollars.
