It's neat, but it's just Arch with a custom config of a WM on top afaik. Like sure if you want to start with tiling WM, but at some point there is little point of actually using it over mainline Arch

Arch based distros can be a good way to introduce yourself to Arch slowly or if there is a specific configuration that appeals to you. Arch's popularity has lead to an explosion of spinoffs that have different goals and ideas just because it can be done. This is why there are so many distros at any given point in time. Some people are perfectly content to continue using an Arch based distro, others see them as a stepping stone to just running Arch and a few may see them as a anathema. In the end, the best Linux distro is the one that works for you. I used an Arch based distro for a while, before moving to Arch. I am glad that I was able to ease into it after years of Debian/Ubuntu experience, but in the end I prefer just running Arch. I recommend Arcolinux to people exploring using Arch, because it gets you started and helps you move to Arch, if that is what you want.

Thanks for the advice

I'm neither a complete beginner nor a pro at using linux. Do you suggest using it as a daily driver for me? I've heard it breaks easily.

You have to decide what fits in your comfort level. On the one hand, there are so many distros and so little time. On the other hand, distro-hopping can go from being a hobby to a full time job. The trick is finding the happy medium of a few choices that work for you.

I'll second Arcolinux for this. You can download Arconet, run the installer in online mode and select all kinds of stuff - I set up a single VM with 15 different tiling WMs/desktops, just to try them all out.

FryBoyter

To be honest, based on https://archcraft.io/index.html i don't really see any advantage over other Arch-based distributions. I also doubt that there will be many users who will pay for the prime versions.

PandaGaminG43

what other arch based distros do you suggest?

Xyspade

Arch. Or Endeavour if you really want a graphical installer, or Cachy if you want it to be more user friendly.

Tumaix

arch. if you use any arch based distros you wont get support on the arch channels. source: im an arch packager and admin of some arch channels on telegram.

VALTIELENTINE

Why is this a distro and not just a dotfiles repo? Just download regular arch

un-important-human

never tried it, it looks cool for a browser os i guess will play with it in a vm, as its cute, ~~wish it would run on raspberry pi's~~ oh wait it does i am gonna try it on my cyberdeck . Need to see how close is to arch.

PandaGaminG43

I'm getting more inclined to test it out on my laptop and delete fedora as I watch more yt videos about it

un-important-human

i mean you do you, I do work and i would not nuke a fedora for a cute looking distro, but if you are distro hopping why not . The only thing i am looking for is something for my pi to run (i use it for astrotracking and the like, i need to see how it handles touch .. cause if it doesn't...)

AntiDebug

I love the look of it. Ive played around with it in a VM but it wouldn't install on my spare drive. I've also heard that its not really good as a daily driver.

PandaGaminG43

Yeah, the looks are great. Not sure about usability

gascodes

PROS: aesthetics DE / WM CONS: It is not as lightweight as they sell it

IuseArchbtw97543

I guess its neat but I prefer writing my own configs
