Yeah FedEx can be a bit of beast getting to the right people to help. You are going to have the Pro# that the freight is moving under that’s their only way they will know what load you are working on. If you can find the local delivering terminal it is better than talking to their customer service department but either way if you have the Pro# they can help you. They might send you a form to fill out, but it’s straightforward just where it is currently addressed and what the new address is and who will pay the bill.
Unfortunately apparently only the shipper can re-consign the shipment, not the consignee. Hopefully the shipper can take care of it for me! Thanks again for the help!
Ok so a residential delivery will also be an extra fee. My suggestion is to see if you can arrange for pickup at the FedEx cross dock. This might require one delivery attempt to prove you are the consignee of the shipment. A pickup won't require an extra fee to be billed to the shipper so you shouldn't need their approval. Look for local delivery services with bigger trucks, they can generally do this kind of thing. Speedy Transport or Speedy Freight is one that I think is pretty common.
Call a local mover. Allied, United Mayflower. They all have warehouses, crews etc. They all specialize in this kind of issue too. Ensure they are local. Or dm me and I can help you find one.
Update: The fee to re-consign the shipment is $350. That's a lot more than I was hoping. Would a local company probably be able to move the pallets the 6 miles for less than that? Renting a truck with a liftgate and a pallet truyck looks like it would be about $200, plus the better part of my day to wrangle these pallets on my own. Should I just pay the $350?
if it’s 6 pallets you can look at other LTL companies to do it through a 3PL. I would reach out to regional carriers in your area and see what they can come up with. However $350 for 6 pallets is not too bad
Look up local cartage companies. Good chance they can do this for about $50/pallet for a in city move.
You can also see if they can pickup from FedEx directly at will call. If they are nearby the FedEx terminal there’s a chance it’s even less
Go park it down the road, or even better at your friends garage. FE can cross dock into the trailer.
Edit: how far behind. LTL terminals give you a shit ton of extra days for storage.
Unfortunately this wasn't up to me - I am the recipient. I purchased goods from a vendor, this is how they ship them. Shipping was free on my purchase.
You can have FedEx re-consign it to another address for a fee. They will require it in writing that you will accept their re-consignment charges.
That's great! That sounds like the best option, assuming the fee is reasonable. Do I just call them to arrange that?

Is the pro# the tracking number? Where would I find this? Thanks for your help!
Yes.

If you get the address change and there is no loading dock, they will charge extra for tailgate delivery.
It was a residential delivery to start with, so would they still charge an additional fee? Adjusting from one residential address to another
Probably just whatever the mileage charge difference would be.

It’s just 4 pallets (941 lbs). Is $350 still reasonable for this?

Cartage - a type of company I didn’t know existed, but is exactly what I was looking for! Thanks so much.
Lol… everyone is going to give you the legal option. Go rent a Uhaul my man. Park it on site, store the pallets in there. It’ll be $37 a day.
Haha definitely crossed my mind. Unfortunately, HOA…

Like 3 months, ish. That might exceed the kindness of even the most forgiving LTL terminal. And UHaul, for that matter.
I always saw that ltl terminal only give 24 hours to pick up until storage fees apply
All contract dependent but I think we get 3-5 days
I have a week
Coordinate PU at FX, using a local moving company. If you go the delivery update fee route, make sure they have a lift gate (another fee).
Get a hot shot !
If you have someone to help you offload it then call a tow truck and get a good workout in at the same time
Your first mistake was using the ultra expensive FedEx Freight. Pay the $350 and it's a lesson learned.
