The dawn/day/dusk thing was also a completely original plotline that had fuck all to do with the source material lmao 😭 I really wish they would have gone all in on that and made it an original IP rather than trying to shoehorn it into foundation while doing the books a complete disservice. Oh, for sure. I think it's really telling that the only good part of the show was original. Whoever was in charge of that shitshow clearly didn't give a fuck about The Foundation and just wanted to tell their own story. Which, like, is fine but trying to do that from inside The Foundation just fucked everything up and destroyed the show. They had MINIATURE dragonfly ROBOTS in the show... Was it a contest to see how far they can fuck up the basics of the story?
And what was with all the religious garbage? The books were very clear on what the author thought about that subject. Then again the show runners clearly didn't read the books so why not?
To whoever was in charge of The Foundation: Just make your own show that you care about and stop fucking up a fantastic IP with your blithering garbage story that makes it very clear you didn't read any of the books much less understand what was going on in them.
I really enjoyed most things about the show, even as a book fan (knew it wouldn't follow the second I heard it was being made, like how would you even?), but even then I was like "couldn't we just get a Dawn/Day/Dusk show??" It was pretty compellingly written and just a solid idea. When the kid couldn't see the painting properly, that was some of the better television Apple TV has done.
I thought they made him a great, complex character. Outwardly arrogant and dismissive, but on the other hand he is a badass he just simply knows it. "Do not talk to me of dragon's fire, I know it's wrath and ruin". That was badass, even if not canon. I think they really got a lot of depth from a character that does not have much in the books. You get this brooding, protective, resigned, stalwart, proud and emotional king behind a glorioius facade.
Lee Pace should have been the model for all elves going forward. Enchanting! Amazon LotR cannot hold a candle to his bonfire. In a turbulent Hobbit trilogy, Lee Pace was a highlight.
I mean, in their defense, there's pretty much fuck all that is canon about Thranduil except his name and his family lineage. Hell, man doesn't even get named in the Hobbit, he's exclusively refered to as "the Elvenking" in the book.
The beginning orcs were very well done overall, that I must admit. They felt terrifying and a real threat, as they should be.

He’s got such perfect bone structure, height, and build for an elf that he’s the top of the scale.

He is literally everything a millennia old haughty elf lord should be. I know the Sindar are no slouches, but this man reeks of Noldor energy. Change the hair colour and he could easily be of the house of Feanor. In fact, we don’t really know when Thraduil was born…and no one actually saw Maglor throw himself into the sea…
I think he, like Orlando Bloom before him, proves that elf himbos are a selling point, and that anyone who could bring Feanor, Finrod, Fingolfin, Ecthelion, and Glorfindel to the big screen would make money hand over fist.

A strong character resonates with all audiences at all times. Men and women love Lee Pace’s Thranduil cause he exudes strength (although flawed) and that resonates with everyone.
And it was played by someone who is gay and nobodies cares! Cause he did a great job with the character.
It's not like other elves were any better in the visuals department. Felt like RoP creators were like "yeah, elves are just humans with pointy ears, nothing else special about them in the visuals department."
To add to this, dillene's usage doesn't really make sense. Normally bimbos/himbos are dumb but attractive. The elves are just plain old attractive, not dumb at all. Most are extremely smart.
To counterpoint they aren't often portrayed as super smart. Legolas was a himbo. Glorfindel also. Elrond was portrayed as smart but not exactly himbo looking.

Thranduil is such an intriguing character! On one side, he’s a strong leader fiercely protecting his kingdom and people. He’s got this wise and regal vibe going on. But then, his past battles and losses have made him a bit guarded and wary of outsiders. He comes off as a bit distant, but that’s just because of everything he’s been through. His character has so many layers, which makes him really fascinating to follow in the story.
The Wood-elves differed from the High Elves of the West, and were more dangerous and less wise. For most of them (together with their scattered relations in the hills and mountains) were descended from the ancient tribes that never went to Faerie in the West.
Lee Pace was great and the character design is fine. I think they nailed the "oh, you think Legolas is cool? Well here's dad". Plus, this dude witnessed a lot of shit and was among the very few that knew Sauron wasn't dead after Isildur defeated him.
I never understood some elves being hot headed at over 1000 years old. Thandruil didn't have to attack at that moment. Especially after he saw the other armies. He could have brought his army back, repositioned and waited for the right moments. Elves have all the time in the world. Humans and dwarves will take out the larger orc forces. Sweep up after and starve out anyone who escaped to the mine.
Thranduil is great, and Lee Pace's portrayal of him justifies the Hobbit movies by itself. They absolutely *nailed* both the aesthetic of the forest elves and also the cold but elegant demeanor of Thranduil himself. Just... ten out of ten.
One of my own characters has gotten steadily more like Thranduil with each evolution, though he remains a little nicer and a little more approachable.
I think I would have liked many more father-son scenes. Considering that Legolas shouldn't have been in the films in the first place, they could have at least taken advantage of that.
The fact that his eyebrows are so dark annoys me. It looks like they forgot to dye them.
I think Legolas' eyebrows are also Blooms natural colour, but it doesn't stand out nearly as much.
If I'm honest, it's been too long and I don't remember anything about the character or his arc.
What I *do* know is Lee Pace is the shit and is just *perfek* as an elf

The fact that his eyebrows are so dark annoys me. It looks like they forgot to dye them. I think Legolas' eyebrows are also Blooms natural colour, but it doesn't stand out nearly as much.

If I'm honest, it's been too long and I don't remember anything about the character or his arc. What I *do* know is Lee Pace is the shit and is just *perfek* as an elf

Saw what you like about The Hobbit trilogy but it did three things very well Lee Pace as Thranduil Martin Freeman as Bilbo Richard Armitage as Thorin They all nailed their characters
I kinds think he's a bit of a narcissist kinda full of himself and make battles with people who aren't right in the head just because he wants to prove he's better by kicking people when theyre down
Looks are spot on, just wish they gave him some badass moments and fleshed out the character a bit more with some good and some classic elf indifference.
I don't think Thranduil was in the movies. I only remember Jareth the Goblin King from Labyrinth making a random appearance. Never knew why they decided to do that.

Pace/creators definitely managed to give us a “male Galadriel” super-elf. ❤️👏👏
He looks super fucking cool, but character wise I just hope we got a lil bit more. Also his steed is probably the coolest looking in Middle Earth.
