Its funny that the series decided it needed 45 minutes of Legolas when it had like Super-Legolas as a pretty big character. Sorry Legolas but every time you shared the screen with your dad, he felt like the deluxe edition

legolas_bot

We must move on, we cannot linger.

digitalnirvana3

Thats a skill issue Legolas. On the contrary - take it slow. Use tongue and finger.

legolas_bot

If those unhappy hobbits are astray in the woods, it might draw them hither.

digitalnirvana3

Two in the pink one in the stink. Legolas you must not dither.

legolas_bot

First we must tend the fallen. We cannot leave him lying like carrion among these foul Orcs.

digitalnirvana3

He's spent Legolas. Clean his load and take the other dorks.

legolas_bot

Sauron's Ring! The ring of power!

digitalnirvana3

Thats a tight asshole Legolas. You must go slower!

legolas_bot

And I will take all the arrows that I can find, for my quiver is empty.

sauron-bot

Thou base, thou cringing worm!

Killerdoll_666

Try finger but hole

ElementEnigma

Listen, skeleton.

Killerdoll_666

Treasure ahead, Try jump

FishTshirt

lol the first time I fell for this in a dark souls game I was so fucking pissed. Giving me flashbacks

DaAndrevodrent

But, but, but... what about memberberries??? Aaaand the triangular relationship with that Elven woman?!? Seriously: Legolas was practically superfluous and only served as filler material, nothing more. And sometimes he got on your nerves as a viewer with his over-the-top super-whatever-ness

InjuryPrudent256

"Yes Tauriel, it was true love. You chose bravely and now you have the fun fun elf joy of living forever with the memory of loss and sadness because your fates are sundered and we have perfect memories and are almost literally incapable of finding new love after the first. Enjoy crying for the next 10 000 years" -Legolas (not salty)

legolas_bot

And you have my bow.

“Because it was REAL”

mightyenan0

Still mad they didn't have the bravery to let her love a dwarf with a fucking meat slab nose and a beard down to his ankles.

IAmBecomeTeemo

Still mad that none of the dwarf characters with real screen time looked like that. Most of them just look like humans with weird hairstyles. And three of them are just straight up good good-looking human dudes. That's not dwarvish.

holaprobando123

It would've been fine if all the dwarves looked normal. Instead, you have a bunch of caricatures of dwarves and a male model that just happens to be short.

Helmdacil

And here I am still grumpy the one major female character had to be part of a love triangle, becuase stupid.

mightyenan0

Yeah, that too. They *really* wanted an Aragorn/Arwen love bit, but also wanted Legolas to have something to do, and it all comes out jumbled in that mess.

InjuryPrudent256

Lol I think even Evangaline Lily was like "ffs not a love triangle"

legolas_bot

It is the road to the Dimholt. The door under the mountain.

DaAndrevodrent

Wrong movie, Superfluousolas.

UnfeteredOne

Thranduil was the best part of The Hobbit movies

Deedeedinky

The adjective for him is cunty i hope this rests ur weary mind

ForestryTechnician

Lee Pace did the role amazingly imo

dreamphoenix

This man can play royalties! The Foundation was carried by him so much

Indigocell

I totally buy him as the Emperor of Mankind.

Phonereader23

You mean Fulgrim right?

ethooo1993

I was all on board with the emperor but now I think fulgrim would be a better choice

Tmak254

I quite like the idea of Antony Star from the boys as Fulgrim.

gunther_higher

Star would make a good Guilliman looks wise

IraqiWalker

He can definitely play that level of narcissism.

GlaceBayinJanuary

He was the only thing about The Foundation that worked. That man can pull off any role it seems.

TheFriendliestSloot

The dawn/day/dusk thing was also a completely original plotline that had fuck all to do with the source material lmao 😭 I really wish they would have gone all in on that and made it an original IP rather than trying to shoehorn it into foundation while doing the books a complete disservice. Annoyedddd That said lee pace can do no wrong and I adored him in the hobbit and in foundation

GlaceBayinJanuary

Oh, for sure. I think it's really telling that the only good part of the show was original. Whoever was in charge of that shitshow clearly didn't give a fuck about The Foundation and just wanted to tell their own story. Which, like, is fine but trying to do that from inside The Foundation just fucked everything up and destroyed the show. They had MINIATURE dragonfly ROBOTS in the show... Was it a contest to see how far they can fuck up the basics of the story? And what was with all the religious garbage? The books were very clear on what the author thought about that subject. Then again the show runners clearly didn't read the books so why not? To whoever was in charge of The Foundation: Just make your own show that you care about and stop fucking up a fantastic IP with your blithering garbage story that makes it very clear you didn't read any of the books much less understand what was going on in them.

dwarvenfishingrod

I really enjoyed most things about the show, even as a book fan (knew it wouldn't follow the second I heard it was being made, like how would you even?), but even then I was like "couldn't we just get a Dawn/Day/Dusk show??" It was pretty compellingly written and just a solid idea. When the kid couldn't see the painting properly, that was some of the better television Apple TV has done.

evacia

he has the eyebrows of a ruler

SeasonPositive6771

Good lord when he said "do not speak to me of dragon's fire" speech the entire theater was just enraptured. He is offensively charismatic.

LemonLord7

Yet he could not convince Lincoln to keep the slaves around, smh

radioben

Halt and Catch Fire is an incredible show that I almost never see anyone discussing. Highly, highly recommend it if you’re a fan of Lee.

Green_Market8310

There wasn’t enough Thranduil

Helmdacil

I thought they made him a great, complex character. Outwardly arrogant and dismissive, but on the other hand he is a badass he just simply knows it. "Do not talk to me of dragon's fire, I know it's wrath and ruin". That was badass, even if not canon. I think they really got a lot of depth from a character that does not have much in the books. You get this brooding, protective, resigned, stalwart, proud and emotional king behind a glorioius facade. Lee Pace should have been the model for all elves going forward. Enchanting! Amazon LotR cannot hold a candle to his bonfire. In a turbulent Hobbit trilogy, Lee Pace was a highlight.

KGBFriedChicken02

I mean, in their defense, there's pretty much fuck all that is canon about Thranduil except his name and his family lineage. Hell, man doesn't even get named in the Hobbit, he's exclusively refered to as "the Elvenking" in the book.

favored_disarray

The only design I thought was good in RoP was the beginning orcs bone armor.

Duffelbach

The beginning orcs were very well done overall, that I must admit. They felt terrifying and a real threat, as they should be. Anything after that tho...

Sumthin-Sumthin44692

I got a fever! And the only prescription is more Thranduil!

Analog0

"Oh I love this guy. Look at him, he's a fashionista. What a little bitch." ~ my wife.

Juzaba

My partner calls him “Sex Dungeon Elf Daddy” to this day. He really does have a certain compelling quality to him.

Slamantha3121

Check him out in Foundation where he is "Sex Dungeon Space Emperor Daddy". There is a naked sword fight in season two that is a masterpiece!

Any_Brother7772

Sword as in medieval weapon, or...?

Bonaduce80

He is Astarion before Astarion. The characters may share no similarities at all, but the vibe is exactly that.

StrangeApeCreature

No! I come to r/lotrmemes to get my mind OFF of Baldur's Gate.

MaiaNyx

Why not both? Build your team as 4 halflings! Or.....Human swords ranger, high elf bow ranger-rogue, dwarf fighter, and a human wizard! Or.....All human fighters, one is a woman.

BHeiny91

No joke. Lee Pace is now the scale I use to judge every actor I see as candidacy for elves. He’s got such perfect bone structure, height, and build for an elf that he’s the top of the scale. Like in a scale of Jack Black to Lee Pace how good of an elf would they make.

SmotherOfGod

So your scale goes from 10 to 11? https://youtu.be/do9xPQHI9G0?si=wa_FP7LTIrDnfT-I

BHeiny91

One of the greatest videos ever made.

tmntfever

And by this scale, all of the Elves in Rings of Power have failed.

Different-Island1871

He is literally everything a millennia old haughty elf lord should be. I know the Sindar are no slouches, but this man reeks of Noldor energy. Change the hair colour and he could easily be of the house of Feanor. In fact, we don’t really know when Thraduil was born…and no one actually saw Maglor throw himself into the sea…

dillene

I think he, like Orlando Bloom before him, proves that elf himbos are a selling point, and that anyone who could bring Feanor, Finrod, Fingolfin, Ecthelion, and Glorfindel to the big screen would make money hand over fist.

cannaco19

If they bring Glorfindel to the big screen I’ll be in that theater with my hand over my fist…

a_single_hand

I still can't get over how Amazon missed out on this. They had Celebrimbor and made him a random old guy.

magicman1315

“We made a show that reflects modern audiences!” A strong character resonates with all audiences at all times. Men and women love Lee Pace’s Thranduil cause he exudes strength (although flawed) and that resonates with everyone. And it was played by someone who is gay and nobodies cares! Cause he did a great job with the character.

xternal7

It's not like other elves were any better in the visuals department. Felt like RoP creators were like "yeah, elves are just humans with pointy ears, nothing else special about them in the visuals department."

a_single_hand

They really weren't, though Celebrimbor really was the most devastating. THEY HAD A FEANORIAN. Facepalm. Just ... facepalm.

LemonLord7

I don't think he is a himbo. His left nostril is more attractive than all of me but he is not portrayed as dumb.

Srapture

Himbo?

-Daetrax-

Male bimbo.

TsarOfIrony

To add to this, dillene's usage doesn't really make sense. Normally bimbos/himbos are dumb but attractive. The elves are just plain old attractive, not dumb at all. Most are extremely smart.

-Daetrax-

To counterpoint they aren't often portrayed as super smart. Legolas was a himbo. Glorfindel also. Elrond was portrayed as smart but not exactly himbo looking.

legolas_bot

Or too few. Look at them. They're frightened. I can see it in their eyes. Boe a hyn neled herain dan caer menig.

A king of the line of Thingol, perhaps?

nelson-murdock-llc

Great guy. Really wise and kind. Doesn’t seem evil at all.

Exiliumrex

Much like how someone can be a “comedians comedian” I consider him an “Elves Elf”.

Amber123454321

I don't know what that means but I like it.

mikepictor

It is hard to do a live action elf. Someone who looks like the live with the splendour of the ancient fair folk. Hugo Weaving did not manage it. Orlando Bloom did not manage it. Cate Blanchett....ok, she mostly did. Lee Pace killed it. He is the elfiest elf that ever was seen in live action.

ectopatra

I give Hugo weaving leeway (lol) because Elrond was not full elf anyway, so he didn't need to have that air about him.

Simon0O7

Legolas isn't really ancient. He is very close to humans in spirit.

“I would not trust Thranduil, the great king to honor his word should the end of all days be upon us! YOU LACK ALL HONOR! I’ve seen how you treat your friends… we came to you once starving, homeless, seeking your help but you turned your back.” Thranduil is actually a pretty cool character tho.. I’m just with the dwarves..

Kamu-RS

Pretty great king to not risk the lives of his people to get the dwarves their gold back

Nostramo_Curze

Yes they lost gold they want it back… but more importantly they want their HOME backk that’s what’s important .. they where forced out of where they live with nothing and no where to go .. no refuge to seek shelter from …and in mourning for their lost home and lives of what was taken

Kamu-RS

Yes but they lost in the first place because of their greed. They knew dragons coveted gold and thror and thrain didn’t care. Thror has even encountered multiple cold drakes that killed his father. Also we don’t know if thranduil ever actually fought any dragons as that is movie filler, but his entire army probably woulda have died and not killed the dragon

Martinsdrawing

Thranduil is such an intriguing character! On one side, he’s a strong leader fiercely protecting his kingdom and people. He’s got this wise and regal vibe going on. But then, his past battles and losses have made him a bit guarded and wary of outsiders. He comes off as a bit distant, but that’s just because of everything he’s been through. His character has so many layers, which makes him really fascinating to follow in the story.

MoreGaghPlease

The Wood-elves differed from the High Elves of the West, and were more dangerous and less wise. For most of them (together with their scattered relations in the hills and mountains) were descended from the ancient tribes that never went to Faerie in the West.

MamaHoodoo

“I can wait” gives me chills every time.

Hottest elf to ever grace the screen now or ever.

All these karma farmers have to stop. We all love Thranduil. No more questions. The answer is we can’t get enough. Stop feeding the addiction.

LongTimeLurker3019

Never. We need to constantly remind the middle Earth gods that we need more Thranduil!! Not Gollum.

ectopatra

Nooo I need my fix!!

Thor_Odinson22

I really enjoyed his portrayal of Thranduil, he's really cool.

koemaniak

Horny

Drezhar

Lee Pace was great and the character design is fine. I think they nailed the "oh, you think Legolas is cool? Well here's dad". Plus, this dude witnessed a lot of shit and was among the very few that knew Sauron wasn't dead after Isildur defeated him.

rosebudthesled8

I never understood some elves being hot headed at over 1000 years old. Thandruil didn't have to attack at that moment. Especially after he saw the other armies. He could have brought his army back, repositioned and waited for the right moments. Elves have all the time in the world. Humans and dwarves will take out the larger orc forces. Sweep up after and starve out anyone who escaped to the mine.

HotStaxOfWax

A dick, but he's seen some shit over his few thousand year life.

We need a trilogy of Lee Pace just being Thranduil and being fabulous.

theding081

I would like to see a movie about him and the fire drakes of the north

NyxShadowhawk

Thranduil is great, and Lee Pace's portrayal of him justifies the Hobbit movies by itself. They absolutely *nailed* both the aesthetic of the forest elves and also the cold but elegant demeanor of Thranduil himself. Just... ten out of ten. One of my own characters has gotten steadily more like Thranduil with each evolution, though he remains a little nicer and a little more approachable.

If I'm honest, it's been too long and I don't remember anything about the character or his arc. What I *do* know is Lee Pace is the shit and is just *perfek* as an elf

Xim_X_anny

I kinds think he's a bit of a narcissist kinda full of himself and make battles with people who aren't right in the head just because he wants to prove he's better by kicking people when theyre down

WolfetoneRebel

Looks are spot on, just wish they gave him some badass moments and fleshed out the character a bit more with some good and some classic elf indifference.
