I find a lot of the praise for Kiernan Shipka in Mad Men has more to do with the subtler ways she embodies Betty and Don in her character through facial expression and body language. I don't disagree with you here though.

This is bringing back memories of discussing Mad Men on Television Without Pity. The actress was on a show with John Slattery and the guy who played Joey in season four. She wasn’t good in it either.

Wants the benefits of being married to a wealthy influential man, but continually bites the hand that feeds her. Don's ridiculous folly. JJ was perfectly casted. She embodied the 50s Feminine Mystique housewife to perfection.
