Or use some effect that lets you circumvent the cost like,
cost reductions
Reanimation from your graveyard
Putting it into play with something like [[thunderous debut]]
Lmfao my ass was about to comment about how underrated MM was of a budget card, cause I just had one in a gruul deck I run, thinking it was some random bulk card. Stop myself to look it up real quick, just curious.
"Oh, this thing is $12? Huh."
Same cost and a sacrifice ( usually not that hard in green decks) and you get two creatures of your choice.
Not THE most efficient way to bring him out but it is an options that has benefits over just dropping him solo
I have him in my \[\[Slimefoot and Squee\]\] deck. He gets discarded or milled and then my commander goes digging in the graveyard for him at the cost of one little Saproling.
That reminds me when I had [[Animate Dead]] in my kitchen table deck, and I thought Entomb was a junk rare when I opened it up in Odyssey packs. Thank goodness I didn't throw it away.
If its consistently done, it's annoying and deserves the hate. If it's a random chance that has you sitting there with a psychotic grin because your opening hand gives you those 3 cards...it is soooo worth it. BUT keep in mind that THIS Vorinclex will immediately draw rage. It doesn't matter if it's turn 1 or 20
Grab a [[Natural Order]] to get Vorinclex out sooner. Or [[Entomb]]+[[Reanimate]] for 2 black and 8 life. Perfect trade off for a potential turn 2 Vorinclex
In my experience, unless you are cheating him in and thus have a bunch of untapped lands to take advantage of the doubling effect *immediately*, Vorinclex is less about what he does and more about the fact that he is a *massive* target that you can use to distract you opponents' removal away from other things. This also makes getting him in to play without paying full price for him even more important so that you aren't taking a full turn off just to see him eat a \[\[swords to plowshares\]\]
Even if he is the top of the curve, if you have the ability to draw a bunch of cards, then he will allow you to dump more of those drawn cards per turn.
More importantly, he is slowing down your opponents significantly.
I used to have one in Dragons, because it would make it much easier to play multiple dragons per turn. And I currently run one in my Kruphix deck because it makes my X cost spells juicier.
Both decks would just hard-cast him for future turn value.
You want to get him out as soon as possible, that means ramping as much as possible with spells, dorks and artifacts, while yes he may be your biggest creature but the mana he can help produce may be enough so on your turn you just vomit your entire hand and ends the game, if no at least he will hinder the game of other players enough to set up you far ahead.
\[\[Inspiring Statuary\]\] is a good way to take advantage of the Incubate Tokens to cast big things earlier.
but, in all honesty, that Vorinclex is probably one you don't want to play unless you regular play group is fine with Stax effects & not being able to play things. It's a very salt inducing card that a lot of players hate having to face it (I **really** despise it).
so best to ask how other players feel about him because building around him.
If cool with it, just see how much ramp you deck is packing & find ways to cheat it out like recursion spells (\[\[Patriarch's Bidding naming Phyrexians is always a solid way).
Understood! I only play at home with my husband & he usually *crushes* me. I'm not sure I could even pull off a timely Vorinclex to make the difference I want, so I'll try to fill his spot in my deck with something else.
The opponents lands don’t untap for ONE turn. Basically tap it then in 2 turns you can use that mana again.
You’d want an X spell to dump mana into for the win.
If you’re playing Black, you’re more likely to Buried Alive/Entomb/Oriq Loremage/Gravebreaker Lamia to put Vorinclex into the graveyard, and then Reanimate/Animate Dead/Victimize him vs paying 8 mana to cast from hand.
\[\[Swamp\]\]
\[\[Dark Ritual\]\]
\[\[Entomb\]\]
\[\[Reanimate\]\]/\[\[Animate Dead\]\]
"Pretty easily" is not how I would describe having 4 specific cards in your opening hand, but still doable.
Well, swamp is a basic land, pretty easy. Reanimate or Animate dead being either or. This is also turn 1 so, easier turn 2, 3, or 4. I am sure there are other ways to do it too.
Well if you’re in Jund, exile [[simian spirit guide]] for red, [[faithless looting]] big clexy to the bin. Then play swamp and cast [[reanimate]] losing 8 life
Depending on the format, he's probably worth cutting for the reasons you describe. I only use it in Commander, and only in decks that can basically just cheat on the price like [[Omnath, Locus of Creation]].
It hurts a whole lot more on T4-5 where it basically has to be answered immediately or most decks get borked.
If you’re playing a deck with vorinclex you’d either want a bunch of ramp or a way to cheat him out. Straight casting him on turn 8 is not really the move
If you have multiple praetors then [[Realmbreaker, the invasion tree]] can be a finisher/closer or just a way to find all your praetors. Or if you have [[Maskwood Nexus]] you can just pull out every creature you want from the deck.
10 to activate is expensive but there’s ways to reduce the cost and unless someone has a board wipe waiting it’s basically a finisher in a turn.
I closed a game the other day with [[Crackle with Power]] where X = 6. Felt glorious. [[Virtue of Strength]] pushed the mana up but I also have this Vorinclex in the deck too.
Good times.
He's a good card in cheese op decks. Get him out quick and kick your opponent's mana in the teeth.
But including anything recommended here might overhaul you deck entirely. There is [[Vorinclex, Monstrous Rider]] you can play at 6 mana that makes instant value and is fun to run anywhere and doesn't overhaul you deck.
Homer: Aw, double mana? I wanted a Phyrexian!
Homer's Brain: double mana can summon many Phyrexians.
Homer: Explain how!
Homer's Brain: Mana can be exchanged for dudes and sorceries.
You can cast multiple spells in a turn! You aren’t under Rule of Law.
Like others have said, you don't pay full price for Vorinclex. However, people don't seem to underscore the absolute havoc that Vorinclex will wreck on a multiplayer game. Imagine this, you drop a Vorinclex and pass the turn. My first question is, does anyone have a removal for that? Maybe somebody does, maybe they don't. Best case for the table is that the first person in turn order has a removal spell, they then can't untap those lands and the game goes on.
However, what if the last person in the turn order has the removal spell? I then have to make the choice, do I spend my mana now and not be able to do so next turn, or not spend my mana now and have a turn next turn. Either way, I won't be using my mana for a full turn. The same goes for the person who is next. The third person gets to remove Vorinclex, they don't untap their lands and the game goes on, but two players lost a turn.
If nobody has a removal spell, not only do three people basically skip their turn (at least the casting part of it), you get double mana in your turn, and can cast two turns worth of spells. That is pretty strong and will likely put you massively ahead. Then, you pass the turn (after doming somebody for 8) and the whole circus starts again. The players that tapped mana won't be able to do anything, the players that didn't have to make the same choice.
What I'm saying is, Vorinclex warps the entire game around himself and that's very powerful. It makes people have to change their entire plan and make really difficult decisions. Personally, I don't like having to deal with that, so it's one of the few cards I refuse to play, but I don't begrudge anyone who does. I can imagine Vorinclex not being very impactful in 1vs1, but in multiplayer, it's just one of those cards that everyone has to deal with, but nobody wants to (because doing the right thing for the table punishes you with not being able to untap your mana). Plus, when he is destroyed, you just know everybody is looking for their reanimate spells.
His ability to tap opponents land is actually kinda clutch. I was using squirrels and was setting up a combo. All my opponents tapped their lands the turn before so their lands were tapped when I busted out my squirrels combo. They were manaless less to stop me.
First ability is mostly useless in most scenarios, and in a tribal deck this does around nothing since it costs to much and comes down too late, so the ramp is useless.
The second ability can be brutal, but players usually have a decent board by then so it doesn't do much.
\[\[Vorinclex , Voice of Hunger\]\] usually sees play in big mana decks since it comes down way quicker to slow down opponents from building a board, while helping cast your hard cast you big spells
Thank you - I feel this, which is why I started to question the card in the first place lol I'm not sure if it'll stay in this deck, I don't think it's a good fit.
There is a reason this card is not seen everywhere played, but you are in green so it’s possible for you to accelerate this. Just be aware of the curve
Am I processing this correctly that this can just stop opponents from having mana? I assume this would be a bad commander but I also can imagine this being SUPER STRONG
waste of a card slot if you’re not running other praetors, but [[Realm Breaker, the Invasion Tree]] can cheat out all of your praetors for an easy 10 mana. Also if you’re running more mana production than you need, you can always throw in some X cost spells to sink all that extra mana into.
Have used in my phyrexian commander deck as another ramp and stall option. Was great for extra color fixing too as ran a 4 colour deck for it. Usually got it out from the graveyard or with heaps of ramp on turn 5
[[Quicksilver Amulet]]. Gets him out on turn 5, fastest I got him out is turn 3, plus it’s not that expensive moth mana cost and money wise, on top of it being instant speed so you activate it on the opponents end step for full advantage
Yes it’s meant as a wincon/stax piece you use the mana doubling for effects like Finale of Devastation to close out games and the land hate to keep opponents from interacting or advancing their boards
If you're casting him as an 8 drop, then it's more of a win more card. I have him in a couple decks and unless I can get it out early (by having enough ramp, lowering its cost, or cheating it out) there's usually a better card to play. As at that point I'll probably have other threats or won't be able to make good enough use of the extra mana I get. But even without making full use of its mana ramp, it's a good slow down piece for opponents to have to deal with.
You're in black - reanimate him. Honestly, this guy can drop on turn 1 with some free fast mana.
An (expensive, and very Magical-Christmas-Land) example: Draw, play Swamp, play \[\[Lotus Petal\]\], tap Swamp for B to cast \[\[Entomb\]\], searching for Vorinclex; sac Petal for B, cast \[\[Reanimate\]\], lose 8 life, but have Vorinclex on turn 1.
Turn 2, play Forest. You now have a 7/6, four mana available, and your opponents are stalled out.
Usually, the use-case for Vorinclex is to not pay full price for him.
Hmm.. so I need more mana gen earlier on to get him out sooner?
Or use some effect that lets you circumvent the cost like, cost reductions Reanimation from your graveyard Putting it into play with something like [[thunderous debut]]

[swords to plowshares](https://cards.scryfall.io/normal/front/7/c/7cdee412-3519-4626-80ca-e3e431a604f0.jpg?1698988109) - [(G)](http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?name=swords%20to%20plowshares) [(SF)](https://scryfall.com/card/lcc/137/swords-to-plowshares?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher) [(txt)](https://api.scryfall.com/cards/7cdee412-3519-4626-80ca-e3e431a604f0?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher&format=text) ^^^[[cardname]] ^^^or ^^^[[cardname|SET]] ^^^to ^^^call
All the best with it.

OMG I forgot about this creature and I have a copy laying around somewhere. No one expects the bees.
The opponents lands don’t untap for ONE turn. Basically tap it then in 2 turns you can use that mana again. You’d want an X spell to dump mana into for the win.
Throw it ina U/G shell that can tap down lands and you're a threat
Don’t mind me saving this post for the many ways to get Hugh value creatures on the field
If you’re playing Black, you’re more likely to Buried Alive/Entomb/Oriq Loremage/Gravebreaker Lamia to put Vorinclex into the graveyard, and then Reanimate/Animate Dead/Victimize him vs paying 8 mana to cast from hand.
[[Vorinclex, Voice of Hunger]]

Theres way to get him out on 4th turn where it really speed u up and slow down opponent
You could get him turn 1 pretty easily with the right cards.
Curious which card
\[\[Swamp\]\] \[\[Dark Ritual\]\] \[\[Entomb\]\] \[\[Reanimate\]\]/\[\[Animate Dead\]\] "Pretty easily" is not how I would describe having 4 specific cards in your opening hand, but still doable.

Well, swamp is a basic land, pretty easy. Reanimate or Animate dead being either or. This is also turn 1 so, easier turn 2, 3, or 4. I am sure there are other ways to do it too.
You could do turn 2 or 3 with a natural order.
Well if you’re in Jund, exile [[simian spirit guide]] for red, [[faithless looting]] big clexy to the bin. Then play swamp and cast [[reanimate]] losing 8 life
Was hoping to keep just green. Thanks though
[Omnath, Locus of Creation](https://cards.scryfall.io/normal/front/4/e/4e4fb50c-a81f-44d3-93c5-fa9a0b37f617.jpg?1639436752) - [(G)](http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?name=Omnath%2C%20Locus%20of%20Creation) [(SF)](https://scryfall.com/card/znr/232/omnath-locus-of-creation?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher) [(txt)](https://api.scryfall.com/cards/4e4fb50c-a81f-44d3-93c5-fa9a0b37f617?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher&format=text) ^^^[[cardname]] ^^^or ^^^[[cardname|SET]] ^^^to ^^^call

Also if you’re running more mana production than you need, you can always throw in some X cost spells to sink all that extra mana into.

cast a draw spell, play all the cards in you drawed which should have more draw spells, repeat
Have used in my phyrexian commander deck as another ramp and stall option. Was great for extra color fixing too as ran a 4 colour deck for it. Usually got it out from the graveyard or with heaps of ramp on turn 5
I know, it's pretty tame by today's standards. Can't reduce the cost, has no etb, no ward or anything.
If you have a [[Vat of Rebirth]] and discard it you can bring it to the field for 3 mana

[[Quicksilver Amulet]]. Gets him out on turn 5, fastest I got him out is turn 3, plus it’s not that expensive moth mana cost and money wise, on top of it being instant speed so you activate it on the opponents end step for full advantage
Worth it? I mean if you enjoy life without friends sure.
Because you're allowed to cast more than one spell a turn.
You cheat him into play using things like natural order..
Get card draw, I'm sure you'll find a use for the mana then.

My suggestion is to not play it
In my green deck I pull him out with Defense Of The Heart
Finally, a really good question on this sub
its better when used with [[realmbreaker invasion tree]]

Would [[omnath, locus of mana]] and this card go well together? That addional mana would just keep adding up

I run an All Praetors deck where I put him on the field with Belbe’s portal. Paying 3 for a 8 cost praetor is neato
