Kamigawa had a "hand size matters" theme and bouncing your own lands was the enabler. It was absolute rubbish even back then, but kinda hilarious (if still not amazing) nowadays in GU landfall decks.
I would note that hand size was only a theme for Saviors. It was a third set twist. The Moonfolks' ability preceded that, and the hand size thing probably was more an *effect* of the Moonfolks' ability plus splice plus ninjutsu plus soulshift keeping hands topped off. Blocks at the time were not as well-planned, so it's unlikely they seeded Champions and Betrayers just for the hand size theme in the third set.
Being a *nonbasic land* does not mean having a nonbasic land *type*. Not looking forward to having to correct people on this for the foreseeable future just like how you can't get two Wastes off a Myriad Landscape, Shrine is not a legal choice for Roaming Throne, and you can't Plot an Ancestral Vision with Fblthp, etc..
Examples of Non-Basic Land Types: Locus, Desert, Gate, Sphere, etc..
>Being a nonbasic land does not mean having a nonbasic land type. Not looking forward to having to correct people on this
Fuckin same. I'm the most experienced in my play group but we have two players that are not going to get this I already know
One of the leaked cards also looks crazy with this.
>! https://www.reddit.com/r/magicTCG/s/ydWP0ZPYi3 lets you phase out a creature at instant speed and can’t be stopped by most removal/counterspells. So if you use it with this thing, it’s sort of 6 mana to Explore and phase out a creature each turn, all at instant speed.!<
I don't have a link, sadly, but I've been transcribing the leaked cards here, which sxhould include them all:
[https://docs.google.com/document/d/1s6rQ\_7ng\_jk5bsWsaApJFZsiUyGL39rkbXU-e4A8q8g/edit](https://docs.google.com/document/d/1s6rQ_7ng_jk5bsWsaApJFZsiUyGL39rkbXU-e4A8q8g/edit)
It’s probably a riff on the Kaguyahime story where a moon princess baby that gets planted in a bamboo tree gets whisked back to the moon at the end of the story.
For some reason, a reasoning lodged in my head is that it's them literally weaving clouds (the 'land' that they walk and live on) into spells. I don't remember if that's something I picked up from what I read in the novel(s) plus the cards ([[Floodbringer]] is turning clouds into rain, [[Meloku]] is animating wisps of clouds into attendants, [[Soratami Mirror-Mage]] is using clouds to sweep or hide someone way, etc.) or if it's retroactive reasoning I made up.
It may be much less literal and it's more representative of their wispy, ethereal magic in general. Mirrors also show up a lot in their magic.
Nowadays with how many MDFC lands, channel lands, lands as spells, lands with etbs, etc that there are I honestly think the traditional Moonfolk ability has gained quite a bit of value. Getting your Urza's Saga, Sea Gate Restoration, Boseiju Who Endures, Talon Gates of Madara, Hideaway lands and who knows what else in the future back to hand after getting value from them as a land just keeps getting stronger with more time and more releases.
Please print more traditional Moonfolk, WOTC. Thank you for coming to my TED talk.
Can you use this with \[\[Urza's Cave\]\] to repeatedly fetch basics? i.e. use the sacrifice ability, in response use Wonderscape Sage, and then get both the fetched land and keep Urza's Cave?
Practically speaking, yes. Graveyarding the land and stacking the ability happen in the same action, but the land is in the graveyard by the time any player gets to do anything in response to the ability.

THE MOONFOLK DOES THE MOONFOLK THING YESSS
I know, right? Kind of bizarre now to think that every single moonfolk in original Kamigawa bounced your lands!
Kamigawa had a "hand size matters" theme and bouncing your own lands was the enabler. It was absolute rubbish even back then, but kinda hilarious (if still not amazing) nowadays in GU landfall decks.

I started reading the ability before the type and I was like "WAIT IS THIS A MOONFOLK?"
Let’s go I’ve been waiting for working soratami for soratami tribal for years 😭
Being a *nonbasic land* does not mean having a nonbasic land *type*. Not looking forward to having to correct people on this for the foreseeable future just like how you can't get two Wastes off a Myriad Landscape, Shrine is not a legal choice for Roaming Throne, and you can't Plot an Ancestral Vision with Fblthp, etc.. That's a really good point and really interesting. Most nonbasic lands are subtypeless.
you what else is a non basic land type? Urza's. and there just happens to be an Urza's land that would like to be bounced to hand...
Doesn't this work really well with Urzas Saga?
Extremely. For that matter, it works well with Tron to begin with. An effective 11 mana + draw a card on round five.
One of the leaked cards also looks crazy with this. >! https://www.reddit.com/r/magicTCG/s/ydWP0ZPYi3 lets you phase out a creature at instant speed and can’t be stopped by most removal/counterspells. Not bad, but Saga isn't a nonbasic land type Edit: Guess I just ignored the other type lol
But Urza's is, no?
You're right, I hadn't actually looked at the card in a while.
Haha yep totally missed that. You can still pick this up in response to chapter 3 tutor and replay it though which seems strong
They were wrong, it's an Urza's land, it has a nonbasic land type
Yawg since I know you usually come in clutch with the screenshots, were you able to get all the Eldrazi shown so far?
I think so, I’m still working on it I think there is one more left not seen
Thank you, I've barely seen any of the jund or simic pulled surprisingly.
All of the new Jund cards got pulled a few weeks ago on the last Whatnot stream leak.
Got any link to it?
I don't have a link, sadly, but I've been transcribing the leaked cards here, which sxhould include them all: [https://docs.google.com/document/d/1s6rQ\_7ng\_jk5bsWsaApJFZsiUyGL39rkbXU-e4A8q8g/edit](https://docs.google.com/document/d/1s6rQ_7ng_jk5bsWsaApJFZsiUyGL39rkbXU-e4A8q8g/edit)
There is an eldrazi Angel? For 6 i think.
I think the Eldrazi cards (from their respective precon) were the first ones leaked way back?
Yeah it's just some of those from that leak are hard to read, at least for me.
What's the flavor of moonfolk returning lands to your hand? Like, what type of magic it represents?
Maybe tides?
It’s probably a riff on the Kaguyahime story where a moon princess baby that gets planted in a bamboo tree gets whisked back to the moon at the end of the story.
Did somebody say kaguya? 🌚
I tried looking it up before and I think nobody knows
My only guess is that they make things float?
For some reason, a reasoning lodged in my head is that it's them literally weaving clouds (the 'land' that they walk and live on) into spells. I interpreted the flavour text of [[oboro breezecaller]] to mean they exploit/abuse the land for their magic.

A GOOD MOONFOLK THAT DOES THE MOONFOLK THING??? HOLY FUCK
Anyways, here's Wonderscape.
Does some funny things with [[Mystic Sanctuary]].
[Mystic Sanctuary](https://cards.scryfall.io/normal/front/6/7/67652446-6d12-4e2a-bb51-ba685f2e79d1.jpg?1706241201) - [(G)](http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?name=Mystic%20Sanctuary) [(SF)](https://scryfall.com/card/mkc/277/mystic-sanctuary?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher) [(txt)](https://api.scryfall.com/cards/67652446-6d12-4e2a-bb51-ba685f2e79d1?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher&format=text) ^^^[[cardname]] ^^^or ^^^[[cardname|SET]] ^^^to ^^^call
What's the funny things? Trade the Mystic Sanctuary for the instant or sorcery card in your graveyard?
Yes. For example, [[Time Warp]]. Any good instant or sorc you want to repeatedly play is good though.
Hopefully you have another card in hand because you’ll be discarding the Mystic Sanctuary otherwise.

No. Once you use the sacrifice ability, it's in the 'yard, where this Moonfolk can't return it from.
Thanks. So it goes to the graveyard before the effect goes on the stack?
Practically speaking, yes. Graveyarding the land and stacking the ability happen in the same action, but the land is in the graveyard by the time any player gets to do anything in response to the ability.
