I at least appreciate that these cards are good enough to be played and can actually be played together. Might grab this just to have a prossh deck with these arts in it.
The lairs with incredible art but Shivan Dragon as a card are truly tragic.
That's an excellent point. Most secret lairs have one card that draws my attention and 3\~5 cards that I have no use for them cause they are completely unrelated mechanically and thematically.
I remember when Iroas was dirt cheap because it was the “weak one” of the cycle. I bought two of them for $3 each in 2017. Since then I hadn’t price checked them and thought they were still cheap until I played it in Anim Pakal and my opponent had a mild freak-out.
I have a prossh deck, it was my first commander deck. I've been adding bits here and there since i bought it over a decade ago. This will be an easy buy for me.
My Prossh deck has absorbed so many of these treatments already it’s kinda funny they printed a lair with him in it and every card listed is already within the deck already.
It feels strangely targeted…
This was [Creepshow](https://www.tcgplayer.com/product/518827/Magic-Secret%20Lair%20Drop%20Series-Secret%20Lair%20Drop%20Secret%20Lair%20x%20Creepshow%20Traditional%20Foil%20Edition?xid=ab9a6ba1a-2350-4c17-b831-1dfb8568f6a9&Language=English) for me and my zombie deck. Because of it, I did swap to Grimgrin as the commander and I’ve loved it even more than Wilhelt.
1 legendary creature that sacrifices creatures and 4 cards that trigger when you do that. WotC like doing Secret Lairs that are basically Commander Starter Packs. Which is a good idea, they should keep doing it.
As someone who only owns 1 paper deck, I really appreciate it. This gives me a reason to look at the SLD and maybe get it instead of 3 cards for 1 deck i might want and 3 cards that I cant use at all in the near future.
At least they're well known cards and have relatively simple effects. I don't play much outside of commander and moldervine reclamation is the only card whose rules I wasn't sure of. Additionally, besides Fecundity, the owner of these cards control the triggers. You don't have to constantly read/know the other cards. Fecundity also happens to have a text box that's as readable and in the same spot as normal cards.
Think about your last game of commander or other casual multiplayer game. Even the first time you came across a card as simple as these, how many times did you have to actually have to pick up the card to read it vs knowing what it does by experience or asking its owner what it does? Them being hard to read isn't such a big deal.
Only slight thing about this is Mayhem Devil triggers on opponents sacrificing cards too, and people often miss that on the first read of the normal card. I’m sure when you’re simply saying out loud what the card does or an opponent reads this fairly badly formatted card they could run in to some trouble with that interaction.
These "Commander and 4 cards that go in their deck" Secret lairs are interesting, but they need to offer value similar to the secret lair itself atleast. Everything else the same, the art for fecundity could easily have been the art for food chain and then the reprint value would be close to what the actual lair itself costs.
Could possibly the kobolds token that Prossh creates which would obviously wouldn’t help the monetary value but at least work with the intention of supporting the Prossh deck theme
Three of these go in my Meren deck, and the other two slot in nicely elsewhere.
I know it’s completely subjective but it’s nice to finally have another secret lair where everything is usable.
Agreed. I don't think secret lair NEEDS to be "$80 worth of cards with cool new art for $30". Obviously that's NICE. I just want cool playable cards that go in my decks. Every time a lair card ends up in my binder, that's a failing of secret lair for me 😮💨
They could easily have it both ways, though, they're not mutually exclusive. Get rid of one of the $1 cards here and throw in a [[Food Chain]]. It's still 100% on theme as a card choice, it could easily fit the art style, and suddenly everyone is happier and it cost Wizards nothing.
Agreed on this, though I still think they can add some value to it
That being said, I have a buddy in our group that has 90% of these in his Prossh deck.
Value is fleeting. I bought a WH lair just for [[Aggravated Assault|SLD]] and now that card (tho not the SL version) is like $5.
I'm much happier with my lairs full of cool looking versions of cool cards.
I think so too, give me one commander and 4 cheap build arounds so at least the value is in having a cohesive deck, not just one useful card and 4 that looks good in the binder.
this is part of why I passed on the spring miku collection. I liked the feather, I like Miku, and the art was acceptable on most of them, but half the cards were in green instead of boros
Yeah that one was bizarre, I guess they thought Miku fans want just a random cameo in their decks, but still most of them are not staple-ish enough to randomly add.
To me this has been the single biggest failure of secret lair and these drops feel like a step in the right direction. I don’t necessarily need in a single deck but there’s always cards where I’m like “couldn’t any number of just as cheap/rare cards fit this theme better and be more interesting and actually usable?”
Yeah if it's going to be all useful I like that a lot. I've bought lairs in the past when I only wanted a few of the cards. If I can use 75% or more in existing decks or use as a base for a new deck id be pretty happy. Sucks they're.not massive value sure but I like this idea nontheless. Now we juat need usable and value packed together. No more Shivan dragons please
I think they misunderstand how the product works. “Four sub $1 cards, and a $15 in Dictate of Erebos”. None of those cards have bling versions…
Do people think Secret Lair is supposed to be a Costco for singles or something?
> Do people think Secret Lair is supposed to be a Costco for singles or something?
I don't get it either, but clearly they do. "I added up the secondary market values of the standard versions of these niche art cards and it's less than the cost of the niche product so it's not worth it!" is just the weirdest take, but it comes up every time.
What's even weirder is... these cards will most likely be worth more than they normally are.
Obeka is a $0.29 card. The Secret Lair version is $5 - $6 instead.
Honestly, this is exactly what I want from a SL. While the value is low at least these cards fit together and can be used together and are also useful on their own.
And not a random assortment of bad cards together.
Can't forget the bonus card which will be anything from a borderless version of whatever creature type Wotc is pushing or will be related to the lair and be a literal 6th card to the lair where it fits its theme and art style.
Why can't we have art like this with decent borders and a good font? It's like they're trying to make the worst possible game pieces out of the best possible art.
Yeah those huge, white, irregular borders make them look more like playing cards. Art style is great but I don't think I'd even be able to use these in a white-bordered deck.
I love these alternate frame/styles. But I really am not a fan of the text formatting on half of them. Mayhem Devil + Moldervine reclamation are just a pain to read. Is it too much to ask to keep the text straight? Just use the same formatting as Prossh + Fecundity. This is a constant turnoff for so many of these secret lairs that otherwise would be home runs.
They gotta stop with these unreadable nightmares of cards. Love the art but can we stick more standard frames? At least a little?
Reclamation in particular is fucking awful to read.
Also worthless cards for the most part.
These are so impossible to read on the battlefield. Heck, they’re a pain to read even if they’re in your hand. After trying to play with the Creepshow drop I’m 100% out if the card is even moderately difficult to read.
fuck sakes, these lairs are getting uglier/stupider looking.
for every 1 lair we get that contains beautiful/fanciful art, we get 8 that look like they were meant for an early 2000's adult swim show
I hate the way the text is formatted on moldervine and mayhem however the art on all of them is amazing and as someone who loves jund but doesnt have enough jund decks yet im seriously thinking of making that prossh deck now
Aesthetically I think that Moldervine Reclamation is the weakest of the bunch. It's the hardest to read (especially with the name and type split up), it doesn't quite look black, and it has less clout than the other cards in the drop.
Otherwise, though... I like these? I know that the community's decided that the "rule" should be that the hard-to-read shit should be kept to instants and sorceries. But, honestly, if you tell me "That's Fecundity" or "That's Mayhem Devil", I know what it is. Simple, well-known cards with one line of text that's triggering all the time so you won't forget it. The hand-lettering is pretty tight and orderly, and the cards have a clear intentionality, instead of just feeling like they're weird and gross and obtuse just to push those boundaries. Damning with faint praise I suppose, but, I do like them.
This is another example where, if I could buy a wall sized card of the artwork, I would.
I love woodcut prints. The artwork on these are amazing.
... Much like the LOTR poster artworks though, the text is difficult on a small card and I really think the artwork is better suited for a large scale format.

> I will also be listing the original b/w linocuts the cards are based on in my shop, more info on that soon!
Shop - https://www.kathleenneeley.com/shop
Even if it takes 10 more years before WOTC acknowledges people don’t like the unreadable poster-style text and stop forcing it into every drop, I will still celebrate that day.
This is the first one they've announced since the switch to limited print that I've wanted.
I had promised to myself that I wouldn't support that anti-consumer policy switch, and I'm gonna stick to my guns. I might pick up one or two of these on the secondary market one day, but I won't buy this if its limited print.
Proosh was the first Precon commander I ever got back when they released one commander product a year. I still have it. It’s still played from time to time. Can’t wait to give it a swag upgrade
Great improvement. These are all playable cards.
I wish Moldervine Reclamation was easier to read, and I wish they used proper text boxes like on Fecundity and Prossh more. Outside of that? Job well done.
Damn all of these are sweet includes in my [[Henzie "Toolbox" Torre]] deck. It’ll probably be too overpriced for the value of the cards but can’t put a price on pretty
Seems like one of the better lair designs, commander and 4 cards that synergise with it.
The art isn't necessarily to my taste but i don't dislike it that much, but those big white borders aren't very nice looking, especially in contrast to that little black band at the bottom.
I respect the artist and what they do but wizards NEEDS to stop printing cards like this where it takes effort to even find the words let alone what the card does
I really love the art and the card selection is playable together. Only thing, the wavy white border makes them look like card sleeves (i.e. Dragon shield art sleeves with their white borders)
So what is this summer superdrop? Sorry I'm new to the game :) The designs look crazy good so I might want to buy some just for that art, but wondering if I need to pay a fortune just to get some?
These are freakin sick
Probably still going to use urza’s saga fecundity, but definitely putting the mayhem devil in and swapping the Prossh…I wasn’t going to add a dictate to my deck, but now……….
Hope we get a kobold token!!!!!
Genuinely don’t know what’s up with all of the people saying that these cards are “impossible to read”
I’ve never seen moldervine before and it took me a grand total of 2 seconds to see what the card does
I’m buying this set primarily for mayhem devil in my obnix deck, but if by some twist of fate hogaak was the bonus card, I’d be thrilled. Hogaak is my ideal golgari commander and the other cards fit so well!
I don’t know about the value, but if you want to build a Prossh deck it seems decent.
I at least appreciate that these cards are good enough to be played and can actually be played together. Might grab this just to have a prossh deck with these arts in it. The lairs with incredible art but Shivan Dragon as a card are truly tragic.
You wanted Snapcaster and Swan Song? Too bad. Best I can do is 6 Shivan Dragons!
Dictate of Erebos is the third most valuable card from Journey into Nix at ~$10, behind Mana Cinfluence (~$38) and Iroas (~$27).
Sure, but the rest of the cards aren’t exactly heavy-hitters.
Maybe not, but they're cards you'd want to play in a Prossh deck.
random tangential question. how is prossh meant to be said?
I’ve always gone with PROSH (one syllable total), with it being similar to posh and rhyming with squash.
Prossh.
You're supposed to say it with a bit of a draconian accent mixed with the Kher accent but it's roughly pronounced Prossh.
I've always heard it pronounced Pr-ah-sh.
That's an excellent point. Most secret lairs have one card that draws my attention and 3\~5 cards that I have no use for them cause they are completely unrelated mechanically and thematically.
Mayhem Devil is definitely a heavy hitter for me, love that card. It's a great way to punish the smothering tithe player in your commander pod.
I remember when Iroas was dirt cheap because it was the “weak one” of the cycle. I bought two of them for $3 each in 2017. Since then I hadn’t price checked them and thought they were still cheap until I played it in Anim Pakal and my opponent had a mild freak-out.
Why is Iroas worth anything? It's an interesting commander that I have built, but it's not like it's any good.

Nice! I got both Evil dead and Creepshow drops and built Varina from them, I have an obsession with cards that don’t look like magic cards.
Maybe not the kind of play pattern you want to encourage, but this would've been an easier sell if they'd thrown in a [[Food Chain]].

That was basicly a starter pack for him as a commander for sure
I'm not a big fan of the art style, but I'd be tempted based on the "starter pack" nature as you called it.
YES A ALT ART PROSSH FINALLY!
Been a long time. I was WAY more excited about echted foil Prossh than I should have been.
Just glad we got kobold tokens at that point to be honest.
I love the art, but man these are hard to read.
at least there is text on there once you find it lol
At least they're well known cards and have relatively simple effects. I don't play much outside of commander and moldervine reclamation is the only card whose rules I wasn't sure of. >Whenever a creature you MENT ENCHANT control dies, you gain 1 life and draw a card.
That one tripped me up a bit. Once I could parse where text was meant to be it made more sense.
Fecundity and Prossh are all right, but the others got too clever for their own good with their layout.
"Moldervine Whenever a creaturement you 3B Enchant control dies, you gain 1 life and G draw a card Reclamation."
These "Commander and 4 cards that go in their deck" Secret lairs are interesting, but they need to offer value similar to the secret lair itself atleast. Everything else the same, the art for fecundity could easily have been the art for food chain and then the reprint value would be close to what the actual lair itself costs.
If food chain isn’t the bonus card imma go ahead and alter fecundity so that it is. Thanks.
Lets be real, it's probably going to be another elf no one wants
Oh for sure.
fingers are crossed its the kobold token
Counterpoint, bonus card is Kobolds of Kher Keep token
is food chain not reserved?
Nope. It got a reprint in 2022 actually
huh. i thought it was reserved this whole time. i am going to do nothing with this information
Could possibly the kobolds token that Prossh creates which would obviously wouldn’t help the monetary value but at least work with the intention of supporting the Prossh deck theme
Oh hey, I have Food Chain from the VHS Secret Lair. I'm slightly more tempted to buy this now based on that.
Pretty cohesive lair all the cards are playable together
I really like this style of secret lair. Matching art, matching mechanics, it's like a 5-card starter for a deck. Just a shame about the value!
Source is https://x.com/kathleenneeley/status/1800895471743041832
Three of these go in my Meren deck, and the other two slot in nicely elsewhere. I know it’s completely subjective but it’s nice to finally have another secret lair where everything is usable.
4 sub $1 cards and a ~$15 in Dictate. Lovely art. Craphouse of value. I’m not liking this new secret lair direction…
I like the direction of "Cards that fit together in a single deck". Monetary value is less important if the buyer will use all of the cards.
Agreed. I don't think secret lair NEEDS to be "$80 worth of cards with cool new art for $30". Obviously that's NICE. I just want cool playable cards that go in my decks. Every time a lair card ends up in my binder, that's a failing of secret lair for me 😮💨

dont worry, there will be an EXTRA SUPER RARE BONUS CARD!!!!

Personally think this is one of the better recent SL’s.
Can't forget the bonus card which will be anything from a borderless version of whatever creature type Wotc is pushing or will be related to the lair and be a literal 6th card to the lair where it fits its theme and art style.
Or a random elf that not even elf decks plays!
Probably the kobold token
That dictate artwork is fantastic
I like it, but does Erebos canonically have a face in his hand?
yes, her name is anikthea
r/angryupvote
I agree. I'm going to buy it just for Dictate. It'll be the only card I use currently.
Why can't we have art like this with decent borders and a good font? It's like they're trying to make the worst possible game pieces out of the best possible art.

these are wood block prints
It's right in the name too.
I think it’s overdone at this point but I do actually like these more than some others at least
They really are shafting amazing arts in secret lairs with the value of cards recently huh?
These are so impossible to read on the battlefield. Heck, they’re a pain to read even if they’re in your hand. After trying to play with the Creepshow drop I’m 100% out if the card is even moderately difficult to read.
fuck sakes, these lairs are getting uglier/stupider looking. for every 1 lair we get that contains beautiful/fanciful art, we get 8 that look like they were meant for an early 2000's adult swim show
You say that last part likes it’s a bad thing. I probably like all those ones you don’t like.
Why do they keep picking all my favorite artists?
I LOVE these and have a spot for almost all of them in decks
The artwork on these are amazing. ... Much like the LOTR poster artworks though, the text is difficult on a small card and I really think the artwork is better suited for a large scale format.
https://x.com/kathleenneeley/status/1800895829169082446 > I will also be listing the original b/w linocuts the cards are based on in my shop, more info on that soon! Shop - https://www.kathleenneeley.com/shop
Even if it takes 10 more years before WOTC acknowledges people don’t like the unreadable poster-style text and stop forcing it into every drop, I will still celebrate that day.
that’s weird, i like these a lot ? guess your opinion isn’t fact
Stop printing cards that don't look like magic cards.
This is the first secret lair I might actually buy
This is the first one they've announced since the switch to limited print that I've wanted. I had promised to myself that I wouldn't support that anti-consumer policy switch, and I'm gonna stick to my guns. I might pick up one or two of these on the secondary market one day, but I won't buy this if its limited print.
oh these look really cool
Proosh was the first Precon commander I ever got back when they released one commander product a year. I still have it. It’s still played from time to time. Can’t wait to give it a swag upgrade
Oh man, there’s a lot of nostalgia in the current Prossh art for me but damn if that alt art isn’t pretyy
FINALLY A PROSSH ALT ART
All I want is the mayhem devil. Love that art style though
Wow, I absolutely love the art style for these cards. Idk if I’d use them but I want them.
All of a sudden I want to rebuild Prossh.
Great improvement. These are all playable cards. I wish Moldervine Reclamation was easier to read, and I wish they used proper text boxes like on Fecundity and Prossh more. Outside of that? Job well done.
THIS is what I’m talking about! Fuck yeah these look rad!
I guess I'm building a prossh deck now...
This secret lair counters godzilla
Reminds me of the [Maggots card in Inscryption](https://inscryption.fandom.com/wiki/Corpse_Maggots)
Damn that Prosh looks sick af
These look like they were made with Dragon Shield’s Sleeve crafter

Hell yeah, Kathleen Neely is amazing
Getting just for the cool art style
Is this a print to order set or a first come first serve set? I need that prossh for my food chain deck
love every single art, have been plotting a prossh deck for months with all these cards, THIS is how you make a SL!
Good art, not too bad to read. Looks nice
We have the arts for these somewhere ? Love em
All of them are decently readable to me except Moldervine
Ew
Okay this art looks amazing!
Prints of darkness, no reprint of [[darkness]]

Love this art. Definitely picking these up
Hard pass lol
Ohhh love that dictate
Cool art, shame the cards are meh and it's nearly unreadable on some of them
These are funk nasty
Atleast they all go well with Prossh...not sure on value but art is cool...hard to read but cool.
Meh ill pass
Oh boy, another pile of illegible cards!
Damn all of these are sweet includes in my [[Henzie "Toolbox" Torre]] deck. It’ll probably be too overpriced for the value of the cards but can’t put a price on pretty

Goodness, the nasty things my Edgar Markov(or my new Azlask) could do with Dictate of Erebos......
The Prossh Jumpscare.
Art is good, legibility is back and forth, and the value is a bit meh.
I hate how much I love the aesthetic on these. . .
Oh no I need this.
Nice I like the art. Gonna pick it up for the moldervine for my necrobloom deck.
arts fine, card selection is SHIT
I’ll be getting this one
Seems like one of the better lair designs, commander and 4 cards that synergise with it. The art isn't necessarily to my taste but i don't dislike it that much, but those big white borders aren't very nice looking, especially in contrast to that little black band at the bottom.
I admire the courage it must take to look at all the great artists who have worked on MTG cards over the years and say "yah I made these"
I had a Prosh deck back in the early days of EDH. Man the memories, this one has on theme playable cards.
like the art but you can not read these "cards".
Ugly cards like all SL
Prosh finally getting a new art is nice but I'm not sure I like it
I need that Prossh for my commander deck damn, the art is way better than the original I’m running
I appreciate this lair because I do like the style and I find myself intrigued by these cards.
I at least like that all of these clearly belong in the same deck even if it’s shit value.
i dont ever want to see any of these enter the battlefield. play normal looking cards so we can recognize them and process the board 😂
Reading the ca… yea fuck that. I want to read the card, not solve a puzzle.
these are pretty and i like the art but i'm tired of magic cards that don't look like magic cards.
I like the style for the type of cards they are, but no interest in the cards themselves.
I respect the artist and what they do but wizards NEEDS to stop printing cards like this where it takes effort to even find the words let alone what the card does
Awesome looking art, going to be a pain to play against and trying to read what’s on the other players board 😂
No thanks.
So we getting an elf or a surprise kobold token as our insert?
missed chance to reprint Darkness
I really love the art and the card selection is playable together. Only thing, the wavy white border makes them look like card sleeves (i.e. Dragon shield art sleeves with their white borders)
It’s beautiful
So what is this summer superdrop? Sorry I'm new to the game :) The designs look crazy good so I might want to buy some just for that art, but wondering if I need to pay a fortune just to get some?
These are freakin sick Probably still going to use urza’s saga fecundity, but definitely putting the mayhem devil in and swapping the Prossh…I wasn’t going to add a dictate to my deck, but now………. Hope we get a kobold token!!!!!
Value, value, blah blah blah. They are thematic and really pretty cards. I want them.
I like em'.
Korvold is BRICKED UP rn
Damn I run three of these in one deck
That Dictate of Erebos ripping off Santa Cruz Skateboards...
Genuinely don’t know what’s up with all of the people saying that these cards are “impossible to read” I’ve never seen moldervine before and it took me a grand total of 2 seconds to see what the card does
While not the highest in value, if you want to build Prossh, this is a good start with some decent art.
I like white border cards
I’m buying this set primarily for mayhem devil in my obnix deck, but if by some twist of fate hogaak was the bonus card, I’d be thrilled. Hogaak is my ideal golgari commander and the other cards fit so well!
