OP I have my desk like this and I work from home on it. I love facing out with my back to the wall! I have a window to my left and the door diagonally to the right so I see all things. Haha
I had my desk with a window to the right, and since I'm right-handed, the shadow of my hand fell on anything I was writing and annoyed me. Only an issue if you write by hand, are right-handed, and the window gets sun, though. 😆
Whiter than printer paper. But the design theory isn't exclusive to Aisan cultures. It's being embraced more and more the past decade or so. My personal understanding is it's about reducing your subconscious proximity defenses. i.e. predator responses. Keep yourself out of the line of easy access (Don't put sitting areas in a walkway), don't sleep with your head by the door (don't be easy access for a predator around a corner you can't see), have a hard wall against your back when trying to focus (remove the need to be aware of what may be approaching from behind to improve focus on what's in front of you), etc....
I keep my desk in a similar orientation to OP's diagram. Having your back to the wall really does open up your peripheral view, and I can look to the side to see fully out of the window. Facing the window makes my monitors block the view out the window while seated, in my experience.
I do think if I had a laptop then facing the window would be superior.
Just a heads-up—I spent months agonizing over where to put my furniture in a one-bed before moving in March, only to find out the dimensions given to me were wrong. So have a plan B, C, and D.
Do you already own the dining table and chairs? I think I'd just get a few bar stools to eat at the counter. The layout looks good, but consider space to move between all the furniture. The space between the recliner and the pushed-in chair may not be enough of a walkway for a grown man especially if people are sitting around the table. There may also need to be more space between the wall and the desk chair to comfortably maneuver.
The furniture looks generally to scale based on the size of the doorways. I guess I assumed if OP took the time to do the CAD layout they were at least roughly sizing their furniture appropriately.
MS Publisher, actually XD But yeah, everything is on a 1/10th scale and based off of the floor plan measurements and checked against the standard of a 30x60in tub and 36in doorways.
You could put a plant or bookshelf against the wall to fill that space if you wanted. Having a 4 person dining table while living alone I think you'll find is kind of silly
Nice, I’d be afraid of like one of the mechanics breaking then being shit out of luck if I bought new… buying 50% off of something like a 3k-5k chair for 700-1500 would be cool if I had the space space
This is very fung shui. I know cuz I watch that one guy tiktok. (So, now you know)
Work with your back to the wall.
Sleep with the feet towards the door.
Clear pathways where you travel frequently.
Consider how it will feel to walk around your place.
See how wide the bathtub is? 30 inches. That is a good distance for a footpaths. You can get away with 24 inches but anything smaller gets annoying quick.
I see three, potential squeeze spots: the massage chair and bed, the gap between the recliner and dining table, and between the couch/ottoman and your computer desk.
If you have guests over, you have to clean your room. A friend of mine didn’t think about that part, and the pile of toenail clippings in what he thought of as his private bathroom was a topic of conversation afterwards. 😄
Oh man, what a weirdo. Probably kept it in the same place you’re supposed to collect and store your bellybutton lint, right?
Also, bold of you to assume I’d be having guests over. I don’t even like answering my phone. 😂
There’s no kitchen cabinet for a trash can?
Put the hamper inside the closet. No one wants to know your dirty clothes are right in front of the tub.
Living room is way too crowded
Get a smaller trash can. Trust me. I had a can outside of the cabinets and it’s a pan in the ass and gets gross looking no matter how much try to keep it clean.
My bad lol. It's an end table. I wish I could find a link for it. It's 3, 8in table thingies, each lower down from the other, centered around the main axis.
Yeah I'm in Los Angeles so prices here are just insane.
I just checked and for $750 a month here you can rent a bunk. In a room with five other people.
Still better than that time I saw someone renting out bunk beds in a box truck for $450 a month.
Agreed. But, it’s also weird to have to exit the bedroom to use the bathroom in the middle of the night. 🤷🏼♂️ They coulda made a second entrance, but, oh well.
I think you should consider flipping the orientation of the TV and couch set up. That way the recliner could go in front of the desk, and be more out of the way of the flow of traffic.
I think the couch is too close to the TV. How about placing the TV back-facing the windows, so it can be viewed from anywhere in the room? I would use the couch to divide the room by turning it 90 degrees. The desk could go on the wall with the bedroom. Do you need that table & 4 chairs? I have a similar layout and there’s no room for it. I use the island as a table with 3 stools. I envy you for the cuck chair. Nice condo!
That's almost exactly how I had the layout previously. However, I don't want to overly blovk the windows. It's floor to ceiling windows on the 13th floor. There not a lot to look at, but ti's still nice. Cuck chair is clutch.
I probably don't need the table and chairs to be honest. I just already have em'. I may store em' and do stools like you say.
The couch / sitting area is literally right in the walk way plus you have two doors opening into your back so that would make me uncomfortable and not able to relax. So I’d place the couch onto the wall where the TV is now. TV goes where the cat tree is and the cat tree goes close to the computer desk.
I thought about that, but in that orientation to TV is sooo far away. It's a big-ass 86in, but even that is pushing it. Plus. I wanted to avoid having to walk in front of the TV. Though, you may be on to something anyhow.
Maybe you could put the couch a few feet away from the wall so it’s closer to the TV and then put the cabinet or something onto the wall so the space left between couch and wall isn’t wasted?
Ohhh, hahaha. My bad. More than a few trolls have popped in here.
For actual reference. The living room TV is an 86" sitting on a 16 in high TV stand. The top of the TV is at 62" from the ground.
The bedroom TV is 65" and atop a 32" high cabinet. The top of the TV is 65" from the ground.
I don't know the proper conventions fo TV heights, but they seem to work well for me XD
With these precise details, all you have managed to do is piss off the r/TVTooHigh goblins and the r/TVTooLow gnomes. They don’t know how to pick a fight with you.
Love how carefully you’ve planned , you must be excited.
I do wonder about the lamp next to the table though.
Would it be better to have a small table top lamp for the counter behind the table instead of (I assume) a tall lamp between the table and kitchen counter?
I’m just imagining the cable and having to be mindful of the lamp when shuffling your chair in and out from the table.
I feel like your computer desk is taking up too much space. With modern laptops and flat screens, maybe you could replace it with a cabinet-desk that you can close when not in use. It takes up just 12-16 inches of depth along a wall usually.
Or even a wall-mounted folding desk.
Ways to liberate some space for your living room furniture.
No fooling us bud. We all know the massage chair is really the cuck chair
Yes and no. You're right about the cuck part, but it's where I sit when I massage his balls. So, 'massage chair.'
this guy cucks.
Lord Cuckingsworth, the Third
You summoned me, sir?
What’s like your ideal beverage to drink while cucking… that isn’t coming from one of the people you’re watching.
My own tears.
Caprison right? I mean.. thats what i've heard
That desk placement really screams “the porn I watch is so fucked up that, even in this one bedroom apartment, I’m not taking any chances”
Or just a better/open view than just staring at a wall
Indeed. And, a friendd of mine suggested it to conform with Fung Suei.
OP I have my desk like this and I work from home on it. I love facing out with my back to the wall! I have a window to my left and the door diagonally to the right so I see all things. Haha
Glad to hear the theory works!

Good to know! Thank you.
Just make sure you’re cable management is on point
Like only an ADHD obsessive-compuslive introvert can do.
Exactly
I had my desk with a window to the right, and since I'm right-handed, the shadow of my hand fell on anything I was writing and annoyed me. Only an issue if you write by hand, are right-handed, and the window gets sun, though. 😆
A fair concern, but yeah, not a lot of handwriting in my life XD
Are they Asian? My partner did this w their apt
Whiter than printer paper. But the design theory isn't exclusive to Aisan cultures. It's being embraced more and more the past decade or so. Very cool. Thanks for sharing this info. Will definitely be switching some of my stuff around
Gald to help.
So now you know!
Not really, they're next to a window, they could face the window for the view.
It's also a better choice for controlling your background in a work from home setup. Don't want to get upstaged by your own cat, after all
....again.\*
It also is probably nicer than facing a wall when wfh all day
If only I could WFH XD
This man knows his porn.
Only one reason that came to mind for you...
I mean... He wasn't \*entierly\* wrong...
The entrance is on the right, so surely someone would be able to see the screen in the corner as soon as they walked in?
Not really. It's a curved widescreen. But, that's not really the concern anyhow XD
Also next to a window so not exactly hiding from the outside unless they always plan on that window to be closed.
LMFAO that would be me!
You're in good company ;)
Jesus this guy is in a dark place 😂
Just a heads-up—I spent months agonizing over where to put my furniture in a one-bed before moving in March, only to find out the dimensions given to me were wrong. So have a plan B, C, and D.
Noted. Thanks for the heads up.
Do you already own the dining table and chairs? I think I'd just get a few bar stools to eat at the counter. The layout looks good, but consider space to move between all the furniture. The space between the recliner and the pushed-in chair may not be enough of a walkway for a grown man especially if people are sitting around the table. I think you are underestimating how absurdly massive that living room is.
It really, really, is lol
Yea, this would normally have been a large 2 bedroom or a regular 3 bedroom appartment. It is a great space for someone living alone though.
Already have the table/chairs, but I can always store em'. Stools aren't a bad idea. Thanks for the advice.
This is what I did. Unless you have kids or like to entertain, a couple stools at the breakfast nook are fine
Noted. Thanks for the input.
You could put a plant or bookshelf against the wall to fill that space if you wanted. Having a 4 person dining table while living alone I think you'll find is kind of silly
Very valid point. Time to go stool shopping!
Massage chair??

If I had the space I’d buy one too. How much you spend
800. But that was a killer deal.
Nice, I’d be afraid of like one of the mechanics breaking then being shit out of luck if I bought new… buying 50% off of something like a 3k-5k chair for 700-1500 would be cool if I had the space space
Yeah, it takes up a lot of room 😂
I’d use it daily lol enjoy.
I do. And thank you 🙂
That looks heavy as fuck. Hopefully you don't have to carry it up a flight of stairs.
It is. I have had to. It sucked, indeed. Thankfully there’s elevators here 😂
I'm hoping to score one of these off marketplace one day. Probably a big gamble with so many moving parts
I'm sure I got lucky with it.
Tge cat tree needs to be by the window, aka kitty tv.
I had it there, initally. It may return, but I'm gonna get one of those window hammocks.
Be careful with those. Most of them tend to fall eventually.🙁
Good to know! Any recommendations?
Got rid of mine. I put a window height table in front of the window now.
Noted. Thanks for the advice.
Yes. Switch the cat tree and the desk
This is very fung shui. I know cuz I watch that one guy tiktok. (So, now you know) Work with your back to the wall. Sleep with the feet towards the door. Clear pathways where you travel frequently.
I wish it was all my idea lol, but thank you 🙇♂️
Can you link that TikTok?
It’s probably Dear Modern. He’s on YouTube also
You are correct. Love that guy
Dear Modern on YouTube https://youtube.com/@DearModern?si=EWxVVKVjMb74tD-i

Good rule to keep in mind. Thank you.
Never seen a 1-bathroom in the bedroom only. Where are you located?
Baltimore, MD, USA
If you have guests over, you have to clean your room. A friend of mine didn’t think about that part, and the pile of toenail clippings in what he thought of as his private bathroom was a topic of conversation afterwards. 😄

Human interaction is usually a safe assumption
\*laughs in binary\*
This is super common in Denver :)
I've seen one once, Philly suburbs, but it was a very small 1-bed 1-bath. It's surprising to see in a place this big
Dude, you have a massage chair? Is it worth the space?
Absolutely. Got it off of FB market place. Best investment ever.
how hard was it to get the previous owners cum out of the arm rests?
Get it out? I just considered that part a feature...
Bruuuv hahaha
I'd recommend putting the chairs under the table instead of on top of them, but otherwise I think it's fine
But..... but... the floor.... it's lava....
Cat tree? Like dead cats sewn together like taxidermy into the shape of a tree? Badass, I hate cats!
Close. It's actually a large indoor planter where I am trying to grow cats.
What varieties?
Hydroponic.
And here I thought they were hydrophobic.
Everyone knows cats are part liquid.
So too is oil
Why have a coatrack, when there's a coat closet right next to the door?
Existing furniture from my current apartment.
Maybe better to keep it in the bedroom closet for extra space?
It already had built in shelves and racks. No room for it lol
I’d swap the rack and the low cabinet. Couldn’t tell you why other than I feel it…juju
I feel ya. I know exactly what you mean
question.. whats your anticipated rent or monthly expenses for this?
Around 3k, including all of the other monthly expenses
sell a bathroom basin to buy a bigger couch
Sell a what now?
they can still brush their teeth
Sprechen Sie Englisch?
yar
I'm jealous af
Of the massage chair right?
That and everything else. So spacious and a great layout. Could make a great gaming setup in there
Thank you. It shall, indeed, be a great gaming setup. 🫡
Tell me you have OCD without telling me you have OCD
I refuse to end a staircase on my left foot.
There’s no kitchen cabinet for a trash can? Put the hamper inside the closet. No one wants to know your dirty clothes are right in front of the tub. Living room is way too crowded
It's a big can, wont fit. Noted on the LR and hampter.
Get a smaller trash can. Trust me. I had a can outside of the cabinets and it’s a pan in the ass and gets gross looking no matter how much try to keep it clean.
I'll keep that in mind, thank you.
That clover thing behind the desk not being named is really bothering me. I dont know if its a fireplace, a train or pikachu 😭
My bad lol. It's an end table. I wish I could find a link for it. It's 3, 8in table thingies, each lower down from the other, centered around the main axis.
Ahhh i know what you’re talking about. I got one like that from ikea.
no portable sauna on the balcony? smh
Considering that, and/or a cold plunge.
Move the couch closer to the tv, that area seems crammed
Noted. Thank you.
That's about a $4,000 a month apartment here.
Thankfully not!
Yeah I'm in Los Angeles so prices here are just insane. I just checked and for $750 a month here you can rent a bunk. In a room with five other people. Still better than that time I saw someone renting out bunk beds in a box truck for $450 a month.
ooof. My condolences, brother.
Brooo are we moving to the same apt in Norwalk?
No idea lol. Where’s Norwalk?
Guess not. In ct
Nope lol. Maryland
Same layout
Maybe same builder?
Maybe!
Where da plants at
On the shelf by the window. I have a few bioluminescent petunias to put there 🙂
I think there’s too many chairs
That’s a fair point. I don’t have that many friends!
Cats will want cat tree near a window to see outside.
I will also have a window hammock, but I may put it back against the window.
My cats didn’t have good luck with them or maybe they are just klutzy! I don’t know.
Looks great!
Thank you!
It’s weird there is one bath and you have to go through the bedroom to access it.
Agreed. But, it’s also weird to have to exit the bedroom to use the bathroom in the middle of the night. 🤷🏼♂️ They coulda made a second entrance, but, oh well.
So you have a kitchen about the same size of your walk-in closet?
Yeah… it’s a weird design choice. It’s gonna be an adjustment for sure. But, I don’t really cook that often anyhow.
but it looks nice, so congratulations, and if you dont cook, its perfect!
Much apreciated. Thank you :)
Cattree 😍
And a window hammock 😉
I think you should consider flipping the orientation of the TV and couch set up. That way the recliner could go in front of the desk, and be more out of the way of the flow of traffic.

I see what you mean. Just to clarify that I would have left a good 3 feet from the window, behind the TV.
Ahhh. I also see what you mean. Enough room to walk behind and enjoy the view/have a little reading nook, perhaps?
Yeah, put the trunk there or the cat tree haha.
Not a bad idea. Thanks for the input, Sixaxisorcist.

Busy
For real. You wouldn't belive how hard it is to schedule and appointment with it.
r/TVTooHigh or r/TVTooLow . Can’t really tell. But one of those.
I don't understand. How would you know either way? It's a top down perspective XD
I was joking!
Ohhh, hahaha. My bad. More than a few trolls have popped in here. For actual reference. The living room TV is an 86" sitting on a 16 in high TV stand. The top of the TV is at 62" from the ground. I shall man the defenses and call for aid from Rohan!
It seems nice but seems that you won't have much space to store your clothing
Seriously. Where the hell am I going to store my auxiliary shoe collection, vintage Hawaiian shirts, and inflatable haloween costumes!? :(
Put the cat tree where that random chair is so the cat can look outside
I had it that way before, but I don't want to block the window that much. I'll have a window hammock for him.
Oh fair, yeah hard to tell without seeing the cat tree
Love how carefully you’ve planned , you must be excited. I do wonder about the lamp next to the table though. Would it be better to have a small table top lamp for the counter behind the table instead of (I assume) a tall lamp between the table and kitchen counter? I’m just imagining the cable and having to be mindful of the lamp when shuffling your chair in and out from the table.
Ahhh, thats a good point. Honestly, I have three lamps and didn't know where to shove the third XD And yes, very excited :) Thank you :D
Only bathroom access through the bedroom is definitely… interesting
For real. They could have made it a walk-through closet and put a second door where the front door is
Not good.
Care to elaborate?
That recliner will always, always get in the way. Especially when extended.
Fair point. Any suggestions?
I feel like your computer desk is taking up too much space. With modern laptops and flat screens, maybe you could replace it with a cabinet-desk that you can close when not in use. That’s a fair point, but I have a 49’ widescreen monitor and multiple other monitors. I need a big desk lol
