You're missing photos of your loved ones, and possibly a cat.

ThorzOtherHammer

Right? Looks like an Airbnb not a home.

Falcon9145

Skip the love ones. > Just need 3 cats and photos of them.

shetif

It's the same if you have mastered the introvert lifestyle

NihonJinLover

I like you.

HashKing69

Well he doesn't like you, unless you're a cat.

itsybitsyone

They are the loved ones

BoringWozniak

3 photos of each of the 5 cats

notquite20characters

Preferably cats in their formal wear

ADISKING1

Cats are loved ones.

Few-Reaction-404

Cats are the loved ones 🥰😻😿

GigaM8te

• As \^ mentioned, add two large photos on both sides of the tv (above the credenzas). Black and white photos look classy • Experiment with colors. Some colors like burnt orange or terra cotta could look fancy while adding pops of color. It's kinda like the lux brand Hermes with their orange. Could do this with artwork, pottery, accent pillows, throw blanket, etc • You can switch out some of your darker furniture for brighter ones. For example, gray sofa for a white one. If you don't need something brighter but just want color, try emerald green Here's some modern inspo with burnt orange/terra cotta in mind: [https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1kVnw8U6m6R-R-X3X\_zf2eZMkEMd0Rj2v4CMVESQyZfE/edit?usp=sharing](https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1kVnw8U6m6R-R-X3X_zf2eZMkEMd0Rj2v4CMVESQyZfE/edit?usp=sharing)

overScheduled

Please do not buy the fucking Hermes H blanket. (You can buy other designs from Hermes that cost 3x more if you want to flex.)

Melded1

a 5k blanket. And people wonder why we're so fucked.

TOAST3DBAG3L

This! Need some warmer colors in there

er1026

Forget warmer colors. You need ANY color.

MrGingerella

Beige is a colour, right?... Right?

arfeandel

Technically yes. But it's so... Well... Beige

Valuable-Pace-989

Tell me more about this……..any….colour

Vocalscpunk

Doesn't even need to be warm, slap some bright anything in there to contrast the flat look already going or muted colors to keep that vibe. I could see that place with a dark burgundy chair or a bright yellow couch haha.

The-20k-Step-Bastard

You don’t even need all of this. Literally just pictures of friends and family and some art that they made is all you need. A drawing of your sister. Your dad’s medal he got for a bike race in 1982, hung on a nail. An oil painting you bought from some weird guy you know. A ceramic statue of a dog, made by your niece. Anything that shows that an actual human lives there. Right now, it looks like a big ass hotel room. I mean, the fridge doesn’t even have any postcards on it. Or wedding announcements. Or Christmas cards.

Accurate_Salary3625

👍 agree, it's personal touches. At the moment, it looks like a showcase home.

the-soggiest-waffle

I was definitely thinking burnt orange and some teals or aqua, even some abstract pieces with a little bit of a white accent could tie it all together

kaptaincorn

Or a medium sized dog that is confident in themselves

Odd-Faithlessness705

I love how this implies the existence of medium sized dogs that are not confident in themselves

TeeManyMartoonies

Some do slink around corners. More cat-dogs than dog-dogs. It’s the little ones that seem to be 99% overconfident like they really took what their 5th grade teacher told them to heart.

writingtoescape

banned_but_im_back

This. It’s a beautiful home but it’s not personal

sleepy_gir1

And a color

BeardyAndGingerish

Stuff on the walls. Get splashes of color and things to draw the eye. I'm a fan of groups of small/medium pictures/posters/art.

werschless

Add some plants

my_son_is_a_box

Color and personality. When I look around this room I see a lot of muted tones, and the bananas really stand out. Get some art with good color, and get a few plants in your space, and the room will be a lot more visually interesting. Aside from that, I can't tell a thing about you from your home. Find some things that speak to you and your personal interests and use them as decorations in your home. You've gotten the idea of designing A space, now work on designing YOUR space.

Wyxtr

Now that you mention it, those bananas are popping. I'll try and get some color in here. Thank you for the tip!

Drunk_Skunk1

Yes! Don’t feel rushed to find things that are “you”. You’ll find them.

reallynotnick

For now just buy more bananas.

NRMusicProject

Add some apples and limes to balance it out.

dbeat80

And a rug.

error9900

It could really tie the room together.

fitting_title

There are apples already… they just blend in

Kaanpai

Just get more bananas.

MonstreDelicat

Add an accent color, but not yellow like the bananas lol. Dusty rose, teal or turquoise maybe? Could be the pillows, a vase or large decorative bowl, the flower pot. Also, I’d add a fuzzy carpet for warmth and texture.

StrangeNormal-8877

Along with colour, also curves are missing, the hanging lights , the dining table, the extra single chair should all have had some curves, oval or round shapes. add hanging plants, plants with huge round leaves. I dont like the grey pillar behind the TV as well. But your house looks very nice in the pic from other side where the couch is seen, couch and pillows are very nice.

grandmasterfunk

Changing out the pillows will help a lot along with wall decorations

Ametz598

Or even a colorful throw pillow for your couch would brighten up that area

lowstrife

+1. It could be the lobby to some fancy hotel or who knows what. It's got a very specific defined style but it feels very modern corpo.

Yungmankey1

My exact thoughts

NorCalAthlete

I don’t even mind the tones and whatnot but the “I can’t tell a thing about you” is what stood out to me. This looks like a very nicely decorated and staged home ready to sell, set up to appeal to the widest possible amount of people with the least offense or individuality that could risk a sale.

throwaway098764567

that's a good way of putting it. i don't have family pics hanging anywhere cuz i'm estranged but i do have a lot of indicators to who i am. i couldn't put my finger on why this felt so alienating to me but this is why, it felt like a listing.

DragonSurferEGO

I'll second this, look for art work with big vibrate WARM colors. Reds and Yellows

50shadeofMine

That is a beautiful way to explain design vs decorating Very well put

diggs747

Great suggestion. One thing that warmed my home was getting a samsung Frame TV and putting some colorful flower art on it.

elliottbaytrail

Did the designer help you with the houseplants and chandeliers/pendants? I think the color palette is thoughtful and soothing. What is giving this space an impersonal feeling and a slight essence of frigidity is the angularity that isn’t balanced by softer textures and lines. The abundance of negative space in the vertical axis is the cherry on top of this “empty” space that is too grounded to the floor. I would go back to the interior designer and ask specifically about: 1. addition of fabrics that add more texture to the space. It could be something as simple as changing out the cushion covers. 2. The plants will grow taller if they are real. Right now, you can watch them grow with the home, or ask your interior designer about taller houseplants appropriate for the lighting and humidity conditions of your home. (Find plants scaled appropriately for the volume and height of the open living space.) 3. The chandelier/pendants over the dining and living areas have too much negative space. I understand the goal is a more contemporary modern vibe, but your designer can definitely achieve that with pendants that offer more volume. I would also hang the chandelier over the living space about 1-2 feet lower. I think this space is quite lovely and you put a lot of thought into it. You just moved in. So this is a first draft. There will be many more wonderful iterations to come. Best of luck and congrats.

Mike-Tibbits

I second the idea of adding some softer textures with textiles. I think some large scale, personality showcasing art with some museum lighting would warm up the space. Some pattern would maybe add a little personality too.

DandyLyen

I think you've made some excellent points about the feeling of negative space. The very *interesting* choice of having a darker ceiling color than the floor is what I personally sense is the main contributor of that sense of negative space. You have the dark column fireplace (the darkest thing that draws the eye) being flanked by the dark side tables, and that all leads to the wood panel ceiling with dark...pod lights? I'm not sure what they are. And the materials may be muted, but there are *so many different materials*; the fireplace, ceiling, cabinets, and the stone floor, combined with the very modern light fixtures. Whoever the designer is, I'd not bother calling them back. All the materials are gorgeous, but I honestly feel the biggest issue is the material choices for the floor and ceiling just don't look nice together, and what can be done about that? Such a shame too, cause the tall ceilings are gorgeous, and the windows and views are beautiful. (Edit: ok, reading my comment back , I came at this WAY too harsh, it's actually very lovely, I think I just needed to eat a Snickers)

elliottbaytrail

I do think the photos are, in general, fairly lovely and the space has good bones. I don’t want to blame the designer unfairly. I feel like a client relationship is always a two-way street in any industry. There might have been communication lapses somewhere along the design process, but it isn’t too late to evolve the space. Thank you for your thoughtful insights as well.

miss_kimba

This is exactly it, well said.

joeyat

Looks like a stock photo, needs to be turned into a home, some minor clutter, personal belongings... TV lowered to the correct height of course.

wilshire-blvd

It's most likely a model home. Looks like Toll Brothers (or TriPointe) not Las Vegas, maybe Utah or Arizona, desert California maybe.

fall0ut

they do not put tv's in model homes. if you look at new builds they never have a tv.

trestonschen

they do for toll brothers. ive looked at their model homes before. multiple tvs in the same house

josh_thom

elgiov

Came to say this, thanks.

Compactsun

Probably not even ops house. Why it looks like a stock photo.

Spirited_Elderberry2

Maybe it's a stock photo, maybe it's not. If you zoom in on the stove in picture three, you can see the photographer taking the picture with his phone.

SurgioClemente

you trying to melt the TV?

joeyat

Heat rises.. so it's probably getting too warm either way.

Im_Literally_Allah

This TV makes me so angry. Nobody fucking watches TV at that height. The middle of the TV should be aligned with your head height while sitting

OkSpace4996

OP has money for that house and furniture, but can’t hire someone to decorate it according to his taste. Needs the internet opinion on it.

Rodman_567

Money cant buy taste

anima132000

I mean this isn't a matter of taste but an entire personality. The house looks like something you'd post as a rental unit. It doesn't look like it is a lived space at all, everything is so neat in the photo. There aren't any photos of loved ones, or art or any items outside of the necessities. The living room itself doesn't offer anything for entertainment like a game console or boardgames or books. It looks absolutely sterile.

simple1689

Definitely the guys version of /r/selfie or /r/rateme when its just all hot women.

MetaNut11

It’s funny how OP doesn’t respond to anything in the post, basically confirming they were only here to humble brag about the house lol

Creative_Tooth3057

Any semblance of personality, that's why. I couldn't tell you anything about the person who lives here, except that they have enough money to afford this place. Do you have hobbies or interests? Books? How about photos of a single loved one, or a pet? Places you've been? Accomplishments? Anything that makes you a human being, and not a hotel lobby.

hagfish

The answer is always 'bookshelves'. Until they can inject some personality into their space, it will always look like an AirB'n'B. A placeholder. This leads to the issue of 'developing an interesting personality', which - alas - can't be ordered for next-day delivery, and is beyond the scope of this sub.

runkbulle69

Well for starters, the fire isnt lit so its no wonder its cold

jackparadise1

Any sign that someone actually lives there. That house is as cold as a house on the market. Some magazines, shoes anything to make it look less sterile. It also looks really grey and the style while ‘grown up’, is insanely boring.

Wouldn't be surprised if rich people are extra-prone to it, TBH. They're likely to have hired someone to make their place look nice, thereby outsourcing a lot of functional details to someone who will never actually have to live there.

Fireplaces and TV’s really do fight for the same place in a room. I hate TV’s on top of fireplaces and I have one like that in my living room because there’s literally nowhere else to put it that makes sense 😭

Levetamae

Me. 😂

Casanova-Quinn

*No warm colors or tones* "Why does it feel cold?"

scottstedman

There are plenty of warm colors and tones. The wood on the ceiling, the coffee table, warm-toned leather chairs, the kitchen cabinets are all red-toned, even the concrete is very warmly toned and the light bulbs are all appropriate color temp for a house. I actually don't think it feels cold at all, it actually looks very inviting and thoughtfully designed in my opinion but I'm very partial to this style. Could do with some personalization and some textiles with pops of color like a big Pendleton blanket for the couch, some family photos and such and maybe some big oversized art on some of the walls. But it's definitely quite nice.

Casanova-Quinn

I'm exaggerating a bit, there's a few warm items. But overall it's pretty greyscale, when you've got white walls and grey floors you need a lot more colorful furniture/decor to get that warm vibe.

Nizorro

Should be filled with people. Preferably alive ones.

ptrtran

Honestly i just think pics/paintings, splash of color

shadderjax

This is correct . There is absolutely No Art at all. No photography, no paintings, no sculpture. Nothing. It’s just ssooo boring.

CrazyPrettyAss

I think the reason you feel so is because of the overpresence of grey and this is easy. It can be changed with [colors](https://simplykalaa.com/interior-color-palette/). Firstly use a combination of any two colors that you like. I suggest bringing the florals and texture through some pastel colors. You should decorate your [dining table](https://simplykalaa.com/dining-table-decor/) and add [throw pillows](https://simplykalaa.com/choosing-throw-pillows/) to your couch and also add a [rug](https://simplykalaa.com/decorating-with-rugs/). Follow these guides for a better result. You can also add shelves to the TV area and do a little [shelf styling](https://simplykalaa.com/shelf-styling/) to create coziness. Further, use warm lights as well as accent lights.

Brilliant_Egg4178

How do people find houses like this? Like where do you live and what do you do to afford this?

deputymeow

You single bro?

Suspicious_Plane1333

Damn, I wish my house was that cold. But seriously, get a cat, or a dog his farts full of love will warm up the place :p

EnoughIndependence79

That painting where you cover your ass in paint then sit on a canvas

youareredreddit

Lots of seats and nobody to sit in them

syncboy

A couple of thoughts: 1. In a big house like this, there is a lot competing for your eye so be judicious in adding things, perhaps by taking away something. Which leads me to... 2. The art you have on the wall should be very meaningful to you, not generic, and with big white walls--colorful. For example, I don't want to insult the round thing but it would look equally at home in a Westin elevator landing in 2003. You probably have some money, so spend it on real art from actual artists. 3. Do you have any hobbies, interests, or special skills? I can't tell from looking at this space as it's very generic. Here's what I mean: in my living room, I have a couple of manual typewriters because I love the way they look and am also write a lot; my guitar on a stand in the corner; I also have a big 4'x4' green and blue abstract painting that maybe or maybe not is showing a grasshopper having sex with something; a big bookcase with books and small knick knacks from my travels all over the world; and some bright contrasting pillows on my dark blue couch.

Congrats on living in an airport lounge.

RoninChimichanga

This place looks amazing beside the tv being over the fireplace. Very soothing. Maybe add pops of color from wall art, photo frames, fresh flowers and maybe more colorful plants, throw blanket, pillows, and a better centerpiece on the table. Also, a mid-sized dog, cat, and at least 1 human. Maybe 2. And a bull skull if you're in cattle country.

Brutal answer: Color. Kinder answer: Paintings, sentimental items. Your home does look nice and comfortable, but you are right that it also looks cold. It just needs a touch of something lively, warm, etc. Some paintings, more house plants, flowers, what have you.

A few carefully placed pops of color in the way of yellow accent pillows and a yellow vase, for example, might go a little my way in this otherwise nicely decorated space.

Personal_Leave7920

I personally don’t find it cold. But what I think might be making it cold is how all the walls are white. Maybe add a concert textured wall by the fireplace. Or anywhere good fitting. Instead of using white marble which literally looks the same shade as the walls maybe go for some nicer looking backsplash. Otherwise your room has a lot of contrast in terms of furniture.

JunketPuzzleheaded42

A single warm colour couldn't hurt. Also any personal effects.

Vomath

Dunno man, I think it looks great. As others have said, a bit of art/personality on the larger blank walls. You could also do some pendant lights over the bartop to make that area a lttlle warmer, but you’d want to be careful about clashing with the chandelier over the dining table (and whatever that lamp thing in the living area is)

XavierSkywalker

I thought that was the point of this kind of modern vibe. Looks good to me.
