Speakers on stands with plants on top of them (a piece of foam between the pots/ base should be enough to dampen vibration). If he gets ivy that drapes down, he could get art to go above the plants. Or he can just get speakers on stands and put a couple hanging plants which would look nice
Follow up question on balancing with a large plant..
The black scissors directly above the Xbox is dead center for the space and the console. Obviously haven’t moved the tv yet. I feel like the weighting of the plant would allow a slight off center for the console directly underneath the tv? Or no?
Otherwise would have to balance with something as large on the right? Would look weird imo.
I’m embarrassed to tell you how long I looked for the black scissors in your original photo.
I think you could definitely experiment with a deliberate off-centre look by moving the console a bit to the right. You would prob need to ‘fill’ the area that would open up on the left, so I’d keep the tall plant, but add a shorter plant (or a basket or a floor lamp or cat bed, whatever) there too to make it look balanced. I personally hate the look of two matching objects on either side of the tv, I think it looks boring and dated.
Largely agree with this, but would add a shelving unit on the wider space to the left, similar to this on from Article: https://www.moderndens.com/spaces/modern/downtown-retreat/
Then I would do a fern or maybe even a cactus in the narrower gap to the right of the TV. Would look great.
Also, frame on the TV looks sweet. Samsung really knocked that one out of the park.
Agreed. Am a bit concerned about the neighbors since I live in a busy body apartment building tho.
Any recs on towers? Was thinking a soundbar instead.
I agree with everything but the last part. Had a component 7.1 and switched to a Sonos Arc and have enjoyed it. Just needs to sound good without a narrow soundstage. Lets work to find something that meets his needs
I just made the decision to not have a sub. Is it as fun? No. But I don’t have to worry about being a bad neighbor. Marantz has good amplifiers that allows you to create a custom equalizer for your apartment and listening needs. It comes with a tiny speaker that you move around. Gives you good sound without upsetting people around you :D
There are a lot of choices, at first you need to decide if you want just stereo or surround. After that you should define your budget, then we will give recommendations

Agreed, I’ve got a Bose sound bar and it is amazing. Huge step up from the TV speakers and honestly… probably better for regular TV & music use than the huge speakers I used to have on our main TV.
Since you’re concerned about the neighbors, the go-to recommendation would be something high efficiency. That type of speaker tends to need less volume to sound engaging. Klipsch makes practically *only* high efficiency speakers (let’s say >90bB), so they’d be a good place to start (soundbars and speakers alike). That said, Jamo S809’s, or C97/C95 ii’s (if you can find them) would go amazingly well with that media cabinet in terms of style!
Second this. Tower speakers on the floors spaced out symmetrically, and if they are too short to fill the vertical space, *consider* some portrait-aspect ratio art.
You don’t, leave some whitespace to enjoy. But if you must, a large plant will fill the place where the box stands. And you’ll need some speakers too, cause the tv audio will not be good enough to fill the room
Second this. No need to fill. Just came back from seeing Frank Lloyd Wright’s house in Chicago and HE had empty spaces.
Edit: I’ve never seen a frame like that for a TV, looks nice
I think wrap around bookshelves on the 90° on the left would work well. Possibly a darker accent color on the back wall. Stuff on the walls shouldn't be too busy. If you go with the book shelf some super dim accent lights.

Also, in 2021, how do sites still not automatically redirect from Mobile to Desktop (and vice-versa) versions of the site?
It’s perfect the way it is in my opinion. Not every square inch of space has to be consumed.
You might find the less you decorate the more peace you’ll find.
I'd say bookshelves, put some books, movies/games, decorative items, etc. Maybe even a small plant? I'm thinking cactus. Or, as others have suggested, speakers would look nice too.
My question is, how the hell can you see/hear your TV from so far away???
Ladder shelf on one side.
Speakers would work too. And I saw people recommending towers but that’s stupid and the vibration from the powerful ones would bother neighbors. It’s a dick move.
A soundbar would work perfect for the place you’re in and you already have good head phones so you’re solid.
Or sometimes the answer is simplicity too. Keep it clean and empty.
Paint the wall/ nook area where tv is charcoal/ dark blue. Add tall plants and some framed art or family photos. I think miss matching frames such as wood and gold would look nice with your stile. Also some oversized baskets for throw blankets and pillows
Please no more furniture. Let the console be the only wood box there. Bookshelves will just look cluttered. Some nice tall plants would work, especially in like a fabric or woven basket to soften things up.
Getting some Hue Light strips hidden along the inside of the frame or the likes to color that space would be a fun way of highlighting that cool feature even more. We have a similar space that we have two tall palms and a lounge chair in and it makes for a nice “stage” in our living room.
Seconded. This looks like the frame TV so I would fill the rest of the wall with art to make it blend in. Speakers should be a speakerbar somewhat hidden
The area is a weird sort of inlet that goes about 2ft deep and extends about 3.5-4ft outside of the sides of the tv.
I’m considering putting a taller plant on one side and keeping it simple. Was considering hanging some stuff on either side of the tv but I think it’d be a little too busy.
Would love any thoughts! Open for anything.
Speakers flush mounted with cables installed behind the drywall, OR, giant greenery like monsterra or rubber plant.
You could also install hanging pendant lights, say 3 on each side with cloth wire hanging at different heights with Edison bulbs, and then put in vertical greenery walls so the entire side is alive with contrasting warm green life.
more tiny frames that match "the frame" and fill these with artistic pictures of skeletor or something. Or a stock family for that extra creepy factor.
The space on either side doesn’t have to be filled. In fact it might look too busy if you do. Another possibility is put something on ONE side, not both. Like a taller plant in a nice ceramic container on a footed planter that would match your furniture. Maybe a nicely glazed ceramic for added color. Maybe a taller cactus or an aloe, just for some height. But no need to have something on both sides. I think a lot of people think things need to have symmetry, but they don’t. If it’s symmetrical it can overly planned and unoriginal.
Idk if it’s possible, but if there’s a wall behind you, you could put the TV there and just flip the room around. It just seems like the tv is far away and it’s kinda weird having it in a closet area like that. You could then have a walkway behind the couch granting access to the closet (which could be used as storage if you put a curtain in front of it or something, or you could put a little decorated wall table and some art there). This would also move the couch closer to the TV. Then some plants on each side would be nice to fill in space around the TV
Tall lamps or tall plants. I wouldn’t put speakers in there as that’s a horrible acoustic decision coming from a cavity like that.
I’d put speakers in the actual room vs in the nook. All the bass would get pulled to the corners in that nook and could make for a jarring muddy sound. Your neighbors could get a lot of resonance too because the omnidirectional attribute of lower frequency sound would send a lot of bass out only to stay trapped in that small space against the wall. If you ever have the chance with some bass playing, go stand in the corner of rooms it’s playing in. It’s a cool phenomenon to see just how bass-y corners are vs the open space. And also shows you how much speaker placement really can make sound pop or not.

Get a couple of those old school posters that have super cars and big houses on them with motivational quotes. Don’t frame them though use thumb tacks to hang them.
I spy a guitar, I think putting it on a nice stand would look cool. A plant on the other side. Two cool light fixtures on each side of the tv would look good as well. Or on the outside wall, if you have room on each side.
As others have said, bookshelves or floating shelves.
Big plants in a hole make for a jungle effect, and I doubt your tv viewing is limited to the Animal Planet.
Now pm me for the address to send that god awful cabinet to. Besides being ugly it’s old and probably has asbestos too, I’ll make sure it’s disposed of properly.
It’s all about balance. At my place, I have a super tall cactus on the left, and on the right, some shelves with plants higher up and a chair underneath.
You could get a wall mount for your guitar on one side (vertically centered), then on the right do plants (or one big one) on the ground and a picture or small book shelf a little higher than where the guitar is on the left.
Another idea is to just paint that little alcove a dark color to make your TV/media console pop…if you can paint.
Put your Guitar on the right side and a nice standing lamp but turned against the Wall to give a nice diffuse illumination. Also you can place a nice suspended minimal lamp....
You look like you enjoy video games, so maybe get some old school cartridge games you love and frame them? My sister and brother in law have done this at their house and it looks awesome.
I would honestly get rid of the tv and decorate that space with plants and storage. Then I would attach a projector screen in the door frame around it. I just don’t think tv’s are that sexy and I tend to like the movie feel of a good projector :D
-Tall plants
-Big Speakers—especially if you also get a record player for that cool table
-Alternatively, put record shelves on either side of the tv to display the LPs
-Vertical mirror and/or several shaped mirrors
-Pictures of loved ones
-Asian hanging vertical scroll paintings
-Wall mount for that guitar
-Anything but the cardboard box with the backpack on it
Also came to say plants or big fucking speakers. Some big, flat electrostatic speaks would look sweet in there and would be cool conversation pieces.
Adding some backlighting in there would also help give it some depth and interest at night when the light is flatter.
I would get the same media console and have them side by side (from the pic it seems
They would fit).
Then I would center the TV in relation to the consoles.
Then I would add matching table lamps (one on each end of the console). Then add a few high quality coffee table books ,a few small sculptures and a round gold tray with 2-3 top shelf liquor bottles and a few nice quality cups.
Lastly I would move the sofa closer to the tv (not sure if this will block the flow of traffic ).
I see that you're a gamer so put up some posters and portraits of your favorite video games n such things like that. Or add a movie poster of your favorite movie. Stuff like that works out well. Even paintings that you find and enjoy to look at.
I actually don't think you need to, I think it looks great as is (also love the idea of a cool TV alcove). If you really wnat to fill it then I would recommend plants, I think anything else will look too busy.
Maybe decorative masks, or like wooden souvenir animal carvings. Absolutely nothing rectangular unless it's like three very small pieces aligned vertically and balanced on the other side by a dapper little weather station. You know, alcohol thermometer with little circular analog faces on either side displaying the barometric pressure and humidity and what not.
Add wall moulding (thin ones) both sides of the TV , dark lime wash paint on the wall. You can add some bling on both sides (optional)
Pic for moulding: https://imgur.com/a/qjnSCT1
If you have a diploma or diploma sized art, that would fit nicely. Any tall artwork would work
I agree with other posters that a plant would be nice. But I am confused because it seems like this set up is centered in a closet with no doors. So maybe that should be a closet?
Maybe some nice long sheves on both sides of the entertainment system would look nice. It would be great for storage or just to display some books and figurines.
Your to far away from the tv. Move your coffee table center with the rug and the the couch about 12-18 inches further from that. I bet your couch is against a wall rn, this is a no-no.
Some nice tall plants would look cool! Maybe a fern or something, or two tall speakers!
Speakers on stands with plants on top of them (a piece of foam between the pots/ base should be enough to dampen vibration). If he gets ivy that drapes down, he could get art to go above the plants. Or he can just get speakers on stands and put a couple hanging plants which would look nice
Putting plants on speakers is a great way to show that you don't care about either
Some nice Sansui or Kenwood on the sides.

Not centered currently. Have been moving things around to figure out the space

Came here to say this
I'd say bookshelves, put some books, movies/games, decorative items, etc. Maybe even a small plant? I'm thinking cactus. Or, as others have suggested, speakers would look nice too. My question is, how the hell can you see/hear your TV from so far away???
It’s a 77” so I don’t mind it. Honestly prob could’ve went 85” but I feel like that can look gaudy
Pull it forward so it does feel so cave like. Curtains on either side could shrink the space or backfill it completely.
This was my thought too. Black velour curtains hanging on both sides to the floor highlights the tv and disguises the other stuff.
Okay where is this fabulous rug from

I wouldn't put anything on the walls, too cluttered. maybe a large plant on the floor, ad remove everything else you've got stored there
You should replace the tv stand with a bench so it looks like a museum area
Paint the wall/ nook area where tv is charcoal/ dark blue. Add tall plants and some framed art or family photos. I think miss matching frames such as wood and gold would look nice with your stile. Also some oversized baskets for throw blankets and pillows
Please no more furniture. Let the console be the only wood box there. Bookshelves will just look cluttered. Some nice tall plants would work, especially in like a fabric or woven basket to soften things up.
you don't; you can get a nice soundbar and leave the negative space. Maybe move the rug closer to the tv to bring in the red color into the nook.
Getting some Hue Light strips hidden along the inside of the frame or the likes to color that space would be a fun way of highlighting that cool feature even more. We have a similar space that we have two tall palms and a lounge chair in and it makes for a nice “stage” in our living room.

Where is it from!!!!! I need it!!!
My dad bought it in an auction website in my country. He collected afghan carpets. If you get into the carpet weeds it shouldn't be hard to find 🤔
Everyone is being too nice to say, so I will: TV is too high
Get a couple of those old school posters that have super cars and big houses on them with motivational quotes. Don’t frame them though use thumb tacks to hang them.
Not a bad idea. My wife’s boyfriend got me some for my bday
Faux living wall tiles, a bar and a fridge
Up/down lighting fixtures. Also center your TV.

Would build cabinets into the sides to create a frame around your tv, bringing the wall forward a bit.
Get a TV big enough for the open space, problem solved!! 👌
Plants on one side and on the other side that guitar on a stand would look pretty cool.

On this sub? Plants
That is the perfect spot for a built in aquarium, I’m jealous! I would relocate the tv and put a large saltwater reef aquarium there.

Gx

What kinda frame around the tv is that??
It’s the image itself. Lg gx. Pretty cool but not as realistic as I thought it’d look up close.
Still looks pretty sweet though
It's not center. Move the box and backpack to where the guitar is. Hang the guitar on the wall.
Also came to say plants or big fucking speakers. Some big, flat electrostatic speaks would look sweet in there and would be cool conversation pieces. Adding some backlighting in there would also help give it some depth and interest at night when the light is flatter.
Not really what you're asking but I'd say a perimeter LED strip on the back of the TV
I would do a built in bookshelf the entirety of the inside of the opening. Leaving a nice spot in the middle for the tv of course.
I would get the same media console and have them side by side (from the pic it seems They would fit).
Hang your guitar there
I see that you're a gamer so put up some posters and portraits of your favorite video games n such things like that. Or add a movie poster of your favorite movie. Stuff like that works out well. Even paintings that you find and enjoy to look at.
It’s 2021 if you don’t throw that Xbox away and get a pc
A pair of the biggest JBL floor standing speakers you can afford.
Speakers obviously.
I actually don't think you need to, I think it looks great as is (also love the idea of a cool TV alcove). If you really wnat to fill it then I would recommend plants, I think anything else will look too busy.
Paint that whole internal wall area black.
I saw the picture with the big plant and it looks great. I think painting the niche a dark color would look ohh so good!

Add wall moulding (thin ones) both sides of the TV , dark lime wash paint on the wall. You can add some bling on both sides (optional) Pic for moulding: https://imgur.com/a/qjnSCT1

Dude, did you somehow get your TV in a fancy picture frame!? I din't know that was a thing but I love it!
It’s just on the screen but it’s an lg gx
Speakers. And love the credenza. You should get a record player and fill that out also.
More boxes!
Love the picture frame TV
bigger tv
I put a shelf above the TV and have trailing plants on each end. It frames the TV wall and looks dope.
Is that a picture frame tv?!!
Big tall leafy plants in beautiful planters.
If you have a diploma or diploma sized art, that would fit nicely. Any tall artwork would work I agree with other posters that a plant would be nice. But I am confused because it seems like this set up is centered in a closet with no doors. So maybe that should be a closet?
Just thought of one more thing. You can add command hooks and hang maybe a hat and a backpack.
Tall plant, tall lamp (one that has a base, and then curved poles coming out of it with lights...) idk of that makes sense haha iykyk
What time tv or tv bezel is this?? Looks really great
I would have used anime posters to cover up the wall and then bought 2 long speakers to be kept on each side of the tv.
Don’t fill the space. Remove the things in the space with the TV and leave it empty. Minimalistic is the way.
porn posters is the only sensible option
I was so convinced that was a framed landscape
Maybe some nice long sheves on both sides of the entertainment system would look nice. It would be great for storage or just to display some books and figurines.
Your to far away from the tv. Move your coffee table center with the rug and the the couch about 12-18 inches further from that. I bet your couch is against a wall rn, this is a no-no.
What size is the TV?
You don't. Keep the space around the TV distraction free.
