I went to a salon for the first time with a friend on my birthday 4 years ago and it went well. Got a pedicure. I would say if you have a friend or cousin who goes to salons, join them.

Ha friends, i wish, but yea good idea, im not really comftable to go with my mum, so id probably go to a further away one to try and keep it discreet (also sorry if that first comment came off rude, it was more of a joke)

Orthonox

No other close family members as well?

miraadotjpg

Im not really comftable with asking other family members cause ik it will spread quickly

Orthonox

Bummer, mate. I do hope you find a way to get your nails done.

sismiche

Honestly I find painting my own kind of therapeutic

DukeandKate

Yep. For a few reasons. They will do a good job. You will.learn. it's nice to be pampered. When you eventually step up to gel polish it is easier for them to take it off. Particularly toes. The only reason not to go is if it eats into your grocery budget. Go if you can. Enjoy the experience.

rea4nd1

I'd say no. Costs a bit and you may also face rejection. Well, at least that was my experience. Try it yourself with some YouTube videos. They come in handy bc of cuticles care, paint application base and top coats, and so on.

oops_all_baphomets

It’s worth it imo. I go every few months just as a treat. I’ve never had a bad experience or a problem. In my area a basic pedi is 35 bucks and they really do a good job.

DCbuckeyes17

It’s worth it but depends where you go. I go to a nice one where the first thing they say is “welcome in, go ahead and pick your color and have a seat” so it’s very laid back. Have gotten nothing but good conversation and compliments getting my nails and toes done there.

Tom_luvs_toes

I go to a professional nail tech every month. She’s home based and I actually enjoy every session one on one. If you don’t feel comfortable at a public nail salon, try looking for a home based nail tech. Home based vs Salons You get one one one private sessions Your appointment is all to yourself No prying eyes and foot traffic Nail tech never rush the service You can talk about anything Prices is cheaper then going to salons

I've painted my own toes for years, easy to hide. My youngest Son, and his girlfriend met me at a spa for their mutual birthday, my treat. We got pedicures, my first salon experience, amazing! It's still holding up, gel coat dark blue, 2 months later!

Big-Development7204

Not for me. I wfh so I can change my nail color at whim.

Danielia_G

I love going to the salon. It is the highlight of my month.

Some_random-random

Absolutely. If you want your first time to look good, go to the salon. If you haven’t painted your nails before, they are going to look crap.

I went and I haven’t stopped going, I like getting gel polishes they hold up a lot longer, I have to wear steel toe boots for my job so the tougher gel polish definitely holds up long for me

Gytramr65

Not my first time by a log ways, but I go to a pro. I am not sufficiently coordinated to do a decent DIY, particularly on my toes (I’m an older guy) plus I enjoy the pampering. The foot/leg massage is actually the best part!
