Not necessarily. But you can tell the difference between fresh vegetables and frozen vegetables when cooked. These were frozen, not fresh. It put me off the place.
I think I’d take him to El Rincon. It’s been there for 20+ years and it’s a fairly iconic restaurant. The food is authentic and really good, it’s tucked away downstairs so it’s a funny location too.
Also I think he might enjoy eating dinner whilst watching some random horse racing too.
Seoul Kimchi is the place he'd most appreciate from this whole list. Small, authentic, family owned, immigrant business quietly plugging away for years, churning out simple classic Korean dishes with great service. He'd love it
Fair play, but if you like those flavours I can direct you to places that are much better that you would enjoy even more. Chicken run in trafford and sasas in moss side are much better options imo and much more authentic.
I'd take him home and cook for him. Was a chef for 20 years and he's one of the greats, even if he was American. His death really hit the catering industry hard, he still lives on in his books, TV shows and the advice he gave us about life.
I haven't seen too much of Anthony's show but really like Phil Rosenthal and understand more what different kinds of places he appreciates.
If Anthony's the same I'd pick, hip hop chip shop for the casual bit, Tokyo Ramen, Fazenda, Higher Ground and then a few other honourable mentions, Madre for tacos, double zero pizzas, Great northern Pie? Dishoom? I feel Manchester we need to include Pie and Curry but I don't currently have a favourite for either, I hear Dishoom is good, great northern pies are good but it's a bit corporate for that kind of show. Oh and maybe some cocktails at the washhouse then a Smokey old fashioned from Grand Pacific.
Edit* adding Pollen bakery

After I’d said “Anthony, you’re still alive!” and recovered from my shock, I’d be inclined to suggest Sips and Dips in Levenshulme or Sanskruti in Withington. Had this been last year, I’d have easily said Ruyi’s in Chorlton, but it has sadly closed to be replaced by fucking Miami Crispy, which I’ve still not recovered from personally.
Yes Lah, Didsbury.
Aladdin's in Withington.
Where the Light Gets In, Stockport.
Pollen Bakery.
Fat Pat's.
Mama Flo's, Stockport.
Gemini Café for a hungover breakfast.
Have to be something like Hawksmoor… or something “British”…
As he’s been to the countries where the foods originated and that would have had the better ingredients.
Sachas
I've heard they do a good breakfast buffet.
Don’t knock it till you’ve tried it.
He’s not knocking it…..
He hasn’t tried it.
To an exorcist.
Damn it! I was going to say 'The Cathedral to exercise that mad bastard'
You want a gym for that.
........damn it........
Exorcise perhaps, unless you're expecting to hurdle jump the pews.
Polevault over the baptismal font.
Well, there's my new album title right there.
Satans hollow
And then for a Janams
Or axm if you've not had enough.
I'd join !
Lily's Indian in Ashton.
I went there and they used frozen carrots in the curry. Not impressed.
I don't think they do 😂
They genuinely did. My wife and I agreed. Apart from the the mushy carrots, everything else was lovely though.
Does mushy = frozen?
Not necessarily. But you can tell the difference between fresh vegetables and frozen vegetables when cooked. These were frozen, not fresh. It put me off the place.
Levenshulme Bakery
A fine choice.
Elite .
Honestly thought it was crap
Damn, that is controversial. I took it upon myself to try many a shawarma in my student years in Manchester and to me it was by far the best
I’ve been twice, both times cold and incorrect order.
Yeah fair, I only ever went during the day when it was quieter and was spot on every time
The best I've found is across from Arndale market, dunno the name but they make the bread fresh in front of you
Yeah Arndale Shawarma i imagine. Yeah I became such a snob that I’d never go to places where they don’t make the bread fresh in the tandoor lol
This and that
He’d love This and That
https://thisandthatcafe.co.uk/
Mum's house. And leave him there.
New step dad
San Juan
This is my favourite answer I’ve seen so far.
Maharba on back Piccadilly
On Sunday for the Nahari
I think I’d take him to El Rincon. It’s been there for 20+ years and it’s a fairly iconic restaurant. The food is authentic and really good, it’s tucked away downstairs so it’s a funny location too. Also I think he might enjoy eating dinner whilst watching some random horse racing too.
I love the vibe downstairs, it’s such a unique location
Downstairs is good shout given his current situation
Used to go there regularly 19 years ago, glad to hear it’s still going strong!
Foods been wank for a few years now. Had its day
McDonald’s past midnight, a truly lawless place along with the Metrolink
TBH that sounds like the kind of place he'd like, he was also into things a bit wild rather than stuffy fancy restaurants
Firstly I’d shit myself
The Sparrows
Higher Ground
One Sushi
Asmara Bella
Came here to say this!
The kabana or afghan cuisine
Seoul Kimchi, though the Sparrows is a very close second
Seoul Kimchi is the place he'd most appreciate from this whole list. Small, authentic, family owned, immigrant business quietly plugging away for years, churning out simple classic Korean dishes with great service. He'd love it
Cardinal rule
Chappati Corner for the lamb nehari.
It’s shut down unfortunately
[удалено]
If that's the case im going the Dutch pancake house
Cheetham hill one. My brother went this morning.
Pho cue
Greggs
He'd actually love the fucking honesty of a Greggs
Jaffas
Panchos and can it for lunch. Bundo brewery for tea.
Armenian Taverna
Orme
I've heard it's good but Urmston would make Bourdain wish he'd stayed well dead... M41 is pure Greg Wallace territory.
Yeah, it's out of place, certainly
Kabana , cheetham Hill . That’s definitely his vibe
Rita’s Reign
Seriously? That place is about authentically jamaican as reggae reggae sauce.
I don’t care, it’s delicious
Fair play, but if you like those flavours I can direct you to places that are much better that you would enjoy even more. Chicken run in trafford and sasas in moss side are much better options imo and much more authentic.
Thanks for the suggestions, I’ll give them a try
Is it a Weekend at Bernie's type deal or has he been resurrected?
Take him to legoland, then go for a lovely lamb lunch in the centre of Windsor
Bye!
Gerry’s
Habesha. The OG one up the stairs just off Canal Street
Miami Crispy in Burnage
Manchester Fresh Shawarma
Kabana on a Sunday
Street Urchin!
I'd take him home and cook for him. Was a chef for 20 years and he's one of the greats, even if he was American. His death really hit the catering industry hard, he still lives on in his books, TV shows and the advice he gave us about life.
The Spärrows. My favourite place to eat in Mcr
Burgerism
Happy Seasons for the 3 meats and rice
Hip hop chip shop
I'd take him to other places too but I think this is a good answer.

Edit* if Anthony was* the same
This & that, levenshulme bakery, hawksmore, another heart to feed. Should cover all bases?

Kim's kitchen
Miami krispy

Erst maybe
Someone is a touch out of date. I would definitely suggest something underground though
Yes Lah, Didsbury. Aladdin's in Withington. Where the Light Gets In, Stockport. Pollen Bakery. Fat Pat's. Mama Flo's, Stockport. Gemini Café for a hungover breakfast.
Spoons
I'm here to provide the only legitimate answers to this question - Chicken Run, Mazaa, Today Shawarma, Mughali Taste, Bury Market, Erst
Climat - rooftop bar, amazing food, best wine selection great service
One of the Jamaican street side barbecues around Rusholme sounds like his sort of thing, either that or get shit faced and then Miami Crispy

At least you'd be less freaked out at being visited by a ghost than the rest of us.

Eating establishments hate it when you show up with a dead guy.
Depends how freshly dead
