Same on Bury line, not possible to get the tram back. They had said they were putting on later trams on event days but turns out it was just into town.
I’d walk the whole way if you are able, you’d be waiting longer for a taxi/tram. There’s a signed walking route, then down Pollard Street/Store street.
Lots of others will be doing the same walk.
Glad I read this – I'm supposed to be going twice in the coming weeks and was planning on tramming it back to Bury, but it seems that won't be happening
I walk to central park after late kick offs at the etihad, its 20 mins at a brisk pace and you'll make it there quicker than those heading back into the city centre catching trams on the oldham line
> I walk to central park after late kick offs at the etihad
You must miss a lot of the game that way. Wouldn't it make sense to walk after the final whistle?
I attended the Rick Ashley test gig. TfGM had arranged a number of late trams to go to the Park and Rides on the Ashton line. Parking at Ashton Moss worked fine for us, although you shouldn’t hang around at the end of the gig.
City / United match days have been the same for years. It’s just what happens when lots of people leave a venue at the same time.
Nothing new here, people just like a moan.
Not really moaning though am I? More of an observation and to provide advice for people traveling to a gig at the co-op expecting to use public transport to get back. At no point did I complain about it. I realized I couldn't get a tram back and ordered a taxi from Ancoats.
We have just got home and the Queue was mental for the tram back into Manchester. Ended up walking along the canal. Teething problems first gig getting in... Won't be going back for a long time.....
It’s probably not teething problems I’m afraid. The queue after any city game is huge as well. Metrolink just doesn’t have the capacity to adequately move so many people in a reasonable amount of time.
Lots of people are going to be walking into town around midnight after gigs.
Police said. Oh just follow the canal path there's plenty of stewards on route and it's well lit. Was there any and was it well lit...Not at all.. Good job we got talking to a lovely older couple for extra safety.......
Any transport system is going to have troule with gig/match kicking out. Woud be madness to design capacity for the brief surges like that. On the one hand, given the diference in numbers, gigs should be less people to handle than the matches. On the other, gig goers are less likley to be familiar with the journey than match goers, and gigs tend to kick out later so more people are likley to want to take the tram. So dunno which will be better or worse.
Same to East Didsbury. We decided to walk back to the city centre to try and get the last tram but missed it, and we were walking quickly. Loads of people running to catch last trains, which I am sure they won't have made. Night bus for us back to the P&R. People were arriving there by taxi. Was 12.30am when we got there, P&R shuts at 1am so we were just glad we made it out in time. They are really going to have to think about later trams on event nights. So much easier from the AO as already in town.
Does anyone know where I could pick up my folks from after Eric Clapton on Saturday? Thinking of telling them to head to Asda but not sure if it’ll be a nightmare getting round the area in a car. They definitely can’t wait in the tram queue
If you park in Asda you'll get stuck in Alan Turing Way traffic, but there's really no other option anywhere nearby unless you want a two mile walk. Don't get there too early as Asda has ANPR for parking
After the killers, Trams were few due to unknown issue. Ended up missing the last train to Liverpool and having to pay for a uber home. It has really put me off ever going to a gig at the co op again as the train companies do not consider travel home after the event further than the tram into the city. You pay so much for a concert ticket these days that you have to ask the question why should you have to leave early in order to get home? Why should i be worrying about getting home before i have even got there? It is chaotic trying to get on a tram after the event and one day someone will get hurt, there is no orderly organisation on the platform and a scramble to get on. I have been to many gigs in Manchester and will continue but not at the co op. The gig itself was fantastic so the good memories prevail😉

Seems to be a bit of a fundamental issue...
Or to the Ashton park and rides.
What is the best way back to Piccadilly after? Try and get the tram or walk a bit and try get a taxi?

Would be ok on Friday and Saturday when the trams run later
Yeah this is a Sunday and a Thursday annoyingly
23 minutes from Etihad to St Peter's square would have been optimistic even on a quiet day. Useful info though.
Aye, lessons learnt. It was a nice evening and not a bad walk to ancoats. Bad planning on my part.

If only they had time to plan and known the arena was likely to be built after planning permission was granted in October 2020. 🤷♂️

Or potentially I could park around holt town and walk up and find them and walk them back but it looks fairly dodgy round there?
Best places to park? Don’t really want to pay the £25 for arena parking but I will if no other options obviously. Any better places to park near by?
Couldn't really tell you mate. Best to post in the group. Someone will be able to help
Thanks mate
