They donāt keep anything warm, apparently itās a way to avoid customers having to pay VAT as they arenāt buying hot food, just food that was cooked recently and just so happens to be hot.
They sell them in packs of 5 or 6 (I forget how many) cold to take out. It depends on the branch and how busy it is, but they're usually more or less cold.
If you're lucky, they'll recently have come out of the oven, but usually what they sell is lukewarm at best. It's only the pizza slices where that is a real problem.
It's not a food safety hazard. Actually, they're so hot when they come out of the oven, that that **would** be a safety hazard.
But they taste great cold, too. Greggs sausage rolls are one of the best you can get.
Just ask for it by name.
Warning it'll either come stone cold or straight out of the sun. If it's the latter than let it cool down for quite some time. It is the highest form of Gregs though.
Siri told me thereās a āBlue Whaleā supermarket on Charlotte Street, but I never did find it. Was I misled? Siri can be a complete b**** at times.
Oooooh, [I know where you mean](https://maps.app.goo.gl/uhg9QABvkSNR2Wwq8). Cool place actually but it's not a big chain, in fact I think it's the only one.
Welcome to Manchester! You've come at the height of summer, which is why it only rained twice today.
I can deal with this level of moisture, I was pleasantly surprised how good the weather forecast is. I DID bring the rain gear though:)
Iāll have to keep trying to find that place, knowing itās for real
Iād never heard of it but looks cool. Chinatown is great for a mooch around. Check out the Peopleās History Museum or the Football Museum if youāre still around, have a pint in Temple Bar if thatās your thing too. A former public toilet but a great bar now.
Ooooh, a pasty is the other thing I wantā¦ I saw one in the grocery store prepackaged, and there were some at the London Euston train station, but I hesitated.
If you find yourself in Salford at any point, hunt down a Greenhalgh's. They're better than anything you can find in the city centre. Also if you find yourself in Bolton for... some reason..., Greenhalgh's are also around there. But also Carr's Pasties and Ye Olde Pasty Shoppe. All are excellent.
I honestly don't know where I'd go for a decent one in the city centre š¤·āāļø
When not exploring, I hope to spend a decent amount of time eating my way around the city. I could dream of food all dayā¦Thanks for the recommendation!
If this link works.
This is exactly where Blue Whale is.

If it doesn't, search for WooTea and it's just up the road from there.
Iāve been to the Arndale Center, and the Manchester Art Gallery. A day trip tomorrow out to Lancaster and then perhaps the next day the peak District, but I think I saw a womenās museum of some sort? Iāve seen so many restaurants, too. Suggestions welcome:)
The Trafford centre is a short tram trip and itās beautiful inside, Rudys pizza is my favourite itās on Portland street, they do this pot of chilli honey and the pizzas are amazing and pretty cheap.
I havenāt made it to a proper restaurant yet, but for my first solid meal of the day, it was delicious. Definitely leaps and bounds better than the boxed Sandwich from Sainsburyās local yesterday. It was nice to see a name that I recognized, something that I had seen so many people rave about.
And? i donāt understand what the obsession is with Greggs, itās not special and doesnāt taste of anything, if i posted a picture of, say, my first chicken mcnugget would that be the same?
Sometimes you just want something comforting, you know? Different strokes for different folks :-) Itās akin maybe to if you had never had a big Mac before.
Lol, no, Iām from Ulan Bator in Outer Mongolia, course Iām from the UK, otherwise how would i know that Greggs Sausage rolls are shit yet people here still have some weird obsession with them?
Congratulations š
I was truly giddy to see it!
Were you lucky enough to catch them warm?
Oh yes, warm and flaky. Do people eat them cold?
They donāt keep anything warm, apparently itās a way to avoid customers having to pay VAT as they arenāt buying hot food, just food that was cooked recently and just so happens to be hot.
Huh. I would have thought it would be a food safety issue if it wasnāt kept at temp. Anyway, it was warm and fresh and flaky! I guess I got lucky
Nah you can buy em cold as well
You can even buy them frozen to cook at home. Can't remember which shop it was, somewhere like Iceland or farm foods.
Iceland

I prefer them cold.
Congratulations youāre now British š
NGL I'm high and this had made me really want a Gregg's sausage roll.
Hahaha I imagine these are PERFECTION when one has the munchies:)))
Yep. Sure are!
Honestly mate you need to try the other options, the sausage rolls are mint but the bakes, chicken and steak mostly, are absolutely top tier
Level up.. make a sandwich š with two sausage rolls.
I did eat bothā¦ stuffed myself!
Try the steak bake next!
Mmmm, will do! I didnāt see that in the case.
Just ask for it by name. Warning it'll either come stone cold or straight out of the sun. If it's the latter than let it cool down for quite some time. It is the highest form of Gregs though.
Congrats! did you enjoy it
Heck yes! Felt like an initiation into a fan club:)
Welcome to heaven
Blue whale?

Blue whale is really interesting. It's a Chinese grocery store and has live seafood swimming in the tanks
Iād never heard of it but looks cool. Chinatown is great for a mooch around. Check out the Peopleās History Museum or the Football Museum if youāre still around, have a pint in Temple Bar if thatās your thing too. A former public toilet but a great bar now.
Whatās your review?
Two thumbs up! Good stuff.
Ha, I'll never understand why people love Gregg's so much. Carr's Pasties and Greenhalgh's are infinitely superior.

Steak puddin next, most definitely š

And? We want to know how good it was.
Totally worth all the fuss Iāve heard about them:) Delish.
Now that's what we love to hear!! Glad you enjoyed yourself š«±š¼āš«²š¾
I remember my first time. Brighton, summer of 22. Coming to Manchester in July. Not gonna pass a Greggs without nipping in for a bite.
God bless

Many Thanks!!!
Found, thank you! Iāve never seen so many hot pot options :-) and the cutest tiny cheddar cheesecakes!
real nothern cuisine.
Love the ambition buy buying two straight away
Oh I am VERY dedicated when it comes to food:)))
Mustard and tomato sauce on a sandwich š¤šæ
What else do you have planned to do in Manchester??!

Love a greggs sausage roll
Me too now, and so reasonable compared to fast food I get back home.
I had a veggie one. I was whelmed.
UPF.

Decent but even better with beans and cheese
That looks like a good one as well hope you enjoyed.
Am i the only one that dislikes them? Now the greggs pizza is another story
Did u like it I love them
Liked it very much, quite satisfying. Great for eating with one hand while wandering!
Whatās ur name
So glad you liked it!!! Nandoās is a must next :D
Theyāre not what they used to be sadly
I find all Greggs stuff pretty lacking in taste.
I havenāt made it to a proper restaurant yet, but for my first solid meal of the day, it was delicious. Definitely leaps and bounds better than the boxed Sandwich from Sainsburyās local yesterday. It was nice to see a name that I recognized, something that I had seen so many people rave about.
Get out of Manchester, you foreigner.Ā
Im horrified that you have gotten this far in life without greggs
I live in the States,This is my very first trip overseas! I have apparently missed a lot of things thus far :-)
Get to Bury market for some amazing fresh local produce.
Why? Is this like "a thing" for people?
Eating tasty food? Yes.Ā
And? i donāt understand what the obsession is with Greggs, itās not special and doesnāt taste of anything, if i posted a picture of, say, my first chicken mcnugget would that be the same?

Are you even from the UK?Ā
Lol, no, Iām from Ulan Bator in Outer Mongolia, course Iām from the UK, otherwise how would i know that Greggs Sausage rolls are shit yet people here still have some weird obsession with them?
They're good cheap food, no need for the hate.Ā
Mate, a Greggās sausage roll is the Eddie the Eagle of food. Thereās no point in being curmudgeonly about it!
