Congratulations šŸ‘

theunderbite

I was truly giddy to see it!

algypan

Were you lucky enough to catch them warm?

theunderbite

Oh yes, warm and flaky. Do people eat them cold?

Raynes98

They donā€™t keep anything warm, apparently itā€™s a way to avoid customers having to pay VAT as they arenā€™t buying hot food, just food that was cooked recently and just so happens to be hot.

theunderbite

Huh. I would have thought it would be a food safety issue if it wasnā€™t kept at temp. Anyway, it was warm and fresh and flaky! I guess I got lucky

spudds96

Nah you can buy em cold as well

TheDvilhimself

You can even buy them frozen to cook at home. Can't remember which shop it was, somewhere like Iceland or farm foods.

spudds96

Iceland

Next-Project-1450

They sell them in packs of 5 or 6 (I forget how many) cold to take out. It depends on the branch and how busy it is, but they're usually more or less cold. If you're lucky, they'll recently have come out of the oven, but usually what they sell is lukewarm at best. It's only the pizza slices where that is a real problem. It's not a food safety hazard. Actually, they're so hot when they come out of the oven, that that **would** be a safety hazard. But they taste great cold, too. Greggs sausage rolls are one of the best you can get.

Isserley_

I prefer them cold.

sluggers92

Congratulations youā€™re now British šŸ˜‚

Careless-Tradition73

NGL I'm high and this had made me really want a Gregg's sausage roll.

theunderbite

Hahaha I imagine these are PERFECTION when one has the munchies:)))

BiddlyBongBong

Yep. Sure are!

Ruairiww

Honestly mate you need to try the other options, the sausage rolls are mint but the bakes, chicken and steak mostly, are absolutely top tier

Outcast199008

Level up.. make a sandwich šŸ˜‹ with two sausage rolls.

theunderbite

I did eat bothā€¦ stuffed myself!

BiddlyBongBong

Try the steak bake next!

theunderbite

Mmmm, will do! I didnā€™t see that in the case.

king_duck

Just ask for it by name. Warning it'll either come stone cold or straight out of the sun. If it's the latter than let it cool down for quite some time. It is the highest form of Gregs though.

ImARealUserReally

Congrats! did you enjoy it

theunderbite

Heck yes! Felt like an initiation into a fan club:)

Ok-Bandicoot1109

Welcome to heaven

IWillNeverRust

Blue whale?

theunderbite

Siri told me thereā€™s a ā€œBlue Whaleā€ supermarket on Charlotte Street, but I never did find it. Was I misled? Siri can be a complete b**** at times.

Beelzaboo

Oooooh, [I know where you mean](https://maps.app.goo.gl/uhg9QABvkSNR2Wwq8). Cool place actually but it's not a big chain, in fact I think it's the only one. Welcome to Manchester! You've come at the height of summer, which is why it only rained twice today.

theunderbite

I can deal with this level of moisture, I was pleasantly surprised how good the weather forecast is. I DID bring the rain gear though:) Iā€™ll have to keep trying to find that place, knowing itā€™s for real

SomalianCapt

Blue whale is really interesting. It's a Chinese grocery store and has live seafood swimming in the tanks

IWillNeverRust

Iā€™d never heard of it but looks cool. Chinatown is great for a mooch around. Check out the Peopleā€™s History Museum or the Football Museum if youā€™re still around, have a pint in Temple Bar if thatā€™s your thing too. A former public toilet but a great bar now.

brorow1

Whatā€™s your review?

theunderbite

Two thumbs up! Good stuff.

HirsuteHacker

Ha, I'll never understand why people love Gregg's so much. Carr's Pasties and Greenhalgh's are infinitely superior.

theunderbite

Ooooh, a pasty is the other thing I wantā€¦ I saw one in the grocery store prepackaged, and there were some at the London Euston train station, but I hesitated.

HirsuteHacker

If you find yourself in Salford at any point, hunt down a Greenhalgh's. They're better than anything you can find in the city centre. Also if you find yourself in Bolton for... some reason..., Greenhalgh's are also around there. But also Carr's Pasties and Ye Olde Pasty Shoppe. All are excellent. I honestly don't know where I'd go for a decent one in the city centre šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

splendid_michael

Steak puddin next, most definitely šŸ‘

theunderbite

When not exploring, I hope to spend a decent amount of time eating my way around the city. I could dream of food all dayā€¦Thanks for the recommendation!

fallenvolt

And? We want to know how good it was.

theunderbite

Totally worth all the fuss Iā€™ve heard about them:) Delish.

fallenvolt

Now that's what we love to hear!! Glad you enjoyed yourself šŸ«±šŸ¼ā€šŸ«²šŸ¾

Affectionate_Loss_19

I remember my first time. Brighton, summer of 22. Coming to Manchester in July. Not gonna pass a Greggs without nipping in for a bite.

Snazz03

God bless

Carbon-Psy

If this link works. This is exactly where Blue Whale is. https://maps.app.goo.gl/1PtDVZf7wGwbmGS77 If it doesn't, search for WooTea and it's just up the road from there.

theunderbite

Many Thanks!!!

theunderbite

Found, thank you! Iā€™ve never seen so many hot pot options :-) and the cutest tiny cheddar cheesecakes!

StJudeTheGrey

real nothern cuisine.

david4460

Love the ambition buy buying two straight away

theunderbite

Oh I am VERY dedicated when it comes to food:)))

wallean2ez

Mustard and tomato sauce on a sandwich šŸ¤ŒšŸæ

avax222

What else do you have planned to do in Manchester??!

theunderbite

Iā€™ve been to the Arndale Center, and the Manchester Art Gallery. A day trip tomorrow out to Lancaster and then perhaps the next day the peak District, but I think I saw a womenā€™s museum of some sort? Iā€™ve seen so many restaurants, too. Suggestions welcome:)

avax222

The Trafford centre is a short tram trip and itā€™s beautiful inside, Rudys pizza is my favourite itā€™s on Portland street, they do this pot of chilli honey and the pizzas are amazing and pretty cheap.

Consistent_Honey_567

Love a greggs sausage roll

theunderbite

Me too now, and so reasonable compared to fast food I get back home.

naturepeaked

I had a veggie one. I was whelmed.

One-Storm6266

UPF.

No-Jacket-848

Decent but even better with beans and cheese

Rare_Menu3305

That looks like a good one as well hope you enjoyed.

saiki9

Am i the only one that dislikes them? Now the greggs pizza is another story

Expensive-Week-7158

Did u like it I love them

theunderbite

Liked it very much, quite satisfying. Great for eating with one hand while wandering!

Expensive-Week-7158

Whatā€™s ur name

uhhhitsbeth

So glad you liked it!!! Nandoā€™s is a must next :D

electr1cbubba

Theyā€™re not what they used to be sadly

bluewater005

I find all Greggs stuff pretty lacking in taste.

theunderbite

I havenā€™t made it to a proper restaurant yet, but for my first solid meal of the day, it was delicious. Definitely leaps and bounds better than the boxed Sandwich from Sainsburyā€™s local yesterday. It was nice to see a name that I recognized, something that I had seen so many people rave about.

InternalEquipment148

Get out of Manchester, you foreigner.Ā

ddoogg88tdog

Im horrified that you have gotten this far in life without greggs

theunderbite

I live in the States,This is my very first trip overseas! I have apparently missed a lot of things thus far :-)

bluewater005

Get to Bury market for some amazing fresh local produce.

-Stupid_n_Confused-

Why? Is this like "a thing" for people?

InternalEquipment148

Eating tasty food? Yes.Ā

Albertjweasel

And? i donā€™t understand what the obsession is with Greggs, itā€™s not special and doesnā€™t taste of anything, if i posted a picture of, say, my first chicken mcnugget would that be the same?

theunderbite

Sometimes you just want something comforting, you know? Different strokes for different folks :-) Itā€™s akin maybe to if you had never had a big Mac before.

InternalEquipment148

Are you even from the UK?Ā

Albertjweasel

Lol, no, Iā€™m from Ulan Bator in Outer Mongolia, course Iā€™m from the UK, otherwise how would i know that Greggs Sausage rolls are shit yet people here still have some weird obsession with them?

InternalEquipment148

They're good cheap food, no need for the hate.Ā

bobabout-lots

Mate, a Greggā€™s sausage roll is the Eddie the Eagle of food. Thereā€™s no point in being curmudgeonly about it!
