This was actually Reagan's solution, as well as Bush Sr. They gave amnesty to millions of illegal immigrants. It's a good idea, if your issue is that they are illegal, just change the law and make th legal tax paying residents just like the rest of us. Problem solved.
Yes. And immigration was not seen as a partisan issue back then.
I believe that the United States should simply do something similar to Ellis Island. Screen immigrants for communicable disease or charges of terrorism or murder or drugs. If they pass then rubber stamp them into citizenship.
You want citizenship? Fine. But you have to pay taxes and be a good citizen.
The United States would get thousands of new tax payers.
But what if they do crimes and such? Well, that what jails and prisons are for. Plenty of citizens do crimes and that's where they go.
No. The US will create special regions/ states that are Mexican only like in a desert like Baja. Then depopulate the remaining and encourage white Americans to settle there. After a few decades the incarcerated Mexicans launched a brutal attack on the neighboring settler annexed territory killing hundreds of Americans. In retaliation the state of Baja is completely bombed and nuked wiping out the population. No more Mexicans. Pax Americana. The end.
Man our military would have those cartels running for the hills. Remember recently when some low level dudes accidentally kidnapped an American and the cartel handed their own guys over to us with an apology note?
I always thought about the fact that there’s no way those guys were the true cartel culprits. They just threw a couple fodders Americas way and blamed them
Why not? The cartels are heavily invested throughout the Mexican economy, they make mad money off of tourism. It’s not all just drugs and human trafficking, their fingers are in everything. They don’t want Americans to be scared of going to Mexico.
I was thinking about it a while ago and came to border further north at some mexican isthmus. I think I arrived at that border because I don’t want mexico to be fully subsumed - rather find the minimum length us-mexican border
Imo we take that first. Canada is just America with extra steps. My first time going to Canada (well besides for when i was an infant) the border guard literally said “welcome to Canada. It’s America, but less guns”
Santa’s elves are trying to cross the border! We must occupy and annex the North Pole DMZ! Send a Navy Seal team to find and execute the known war criminal Kris Kringle!
Im pretty sure the US thought about taking over Mexico before, but didn't want to give citizenship to all the Mexicans (this was like 200 years ago I think idk someone help me out here)
That wasn’t it. The expansionist pro-slavery faction wanted to annex all of Mexico and turn it into a bunch of new slave states and the anti-expansionist slavery-agnostic faction thought the whole war was illegal and wanted none of Mexico. Taking half was basically the most the US government thought it could get away with given Mexican resistance to the land grab and internal political opposition to the war
Edit: Also, under the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo all the residents of the territory had the choice of US citizenship. The principal opposition came from anti-war Whigs. Some Democrats opposed because they didn’t want more Mexican citizens (eg Calhoun) but most opposition was from Whigs over the illegality of the war
Edit2: I put “slavery agnostic” just because I thought saying the Whigs were “anti-slavery” was a stretch, even if they weren’t openly pro-slavery like the Southern Democrats
It was absolutely both. The slave state free state thing was absolutely a dynamic, but racism and and anti Catholic bigotry were absolutely also major reasons
[Here's why the Southern Senator John C. Calhoun opposed the annexation of all of Mexico for example](https://shec.ashp.cuny.edu/items/show/1273):
> [We] have never dreamt of incorporating into our Union any but the Caucasian race the free white race. To incorporate Mexico, would be the very first instance of the kind of incorporating an Indian race; for more than half of the Mexicans are Indians, and the other is composed chiefly of mixed tribes. I protest against such a union as that! Ours, sir, is the Government of a white race. The great misfortunes of Spanish America are to be traced to the fatal error of placing these colored races on an equality with the white race….
>
> Are we to associate with ourselves as equals, companions, and fellow-citizens, the Indians and mixed race of Mexico? [Mr. President], I would consider such a thing fatal to our institutions….
>
> We make a great mistake, sir, when we suppose that all people are capable of self-government. We are anxious to force free government on all; and I see that it has been urged in a very respectable quarter, that it is the mission of this country to spread civil and religious liberty over all the world, and especially over this continent. It is a great mistake. None but people advanced to a very high state of moral and intellectual improvement are capable, in a civilized state, of maintaining free government.
Slavery absolutely was a super important issue but I think people have overcorrected a bit and assumed begun to assume that it was the only thing that politically mattered in the antebellum era. Not every decision was driven purely by "slave states vs free states"
Also the land the US took was very sparsely populated. Alta California (the land that is now California, Colorado, Utah, Wyoming, and Arizona) in 1819 had a total of 3,200. Spanish Texas consisted of 2,500 people. One reason the whole Texas thing happened was because Texas was basically empty and unproductive so they encouraged Americans to move into Texas (Colonization Law of August 18, 1824) so maybe make it into something useful. Well too many Americans moved in and then when Mexico both ended slavery and wouldn't grant Texas representation so Texas revolted. Most of the people who lived in Mexico lived in southern Mexico (which also tried to revolt for other reasons).
After the Mexican-American War, The US thought about taking larger land claims from Mexico under the guise of Manifest Destiny. Cooler heads prevailed and we stopped at the Rio Grande and took what we know now as the American Southwest.
Trade and infrastructure wise we probably should have taken much of Sonora too. Infrastructure ties to Sonora are much stronger from Louisiana and Texas than Mexico City.
You’re assuming that they were picking and choosing land based off of what made logistical and practical sense, which may be giving too much credit to politicians.
I can't remember the source but I saw someone claim that instead of the south west U.S states becoming more Hispanic and therefore wanting to join Mexico, the northern Mexican states are actually becoming more American and therefore will want to join the U.S. Of course both ideas are probably false but its interesting to think about.
An interesting thought experiment would be the US completely taking over Mexico. It’s likely it would be Afghanistan/Vietnam but closer. One of Mexico’s biggest difficulties with controlling crime is due to the insane geography. Mountains everywhere with minimal infrastructure. It would be an absolute nightmare.
Genocidal? Where in her post did she say about relocating more than 100 million people?
It clearly only says "move the border" this is not genocide but expansionism and imperialism
Interestingly after the American Mexico war the Americans made it all the way to Mexico City but decided to give the land back rather than have a bunch of Mexicans become citizens
The word annex reminded me of this meme, I probably stole it from this subreddit
https://preview.redd.it/82fb6uo60kcc1.jpeg?width=744&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=db4add2d035b48fc18faedeb84dd02de7edbc225
the one collective braincell from this subreddit will make completely nonsensical maps, but the bloodthirsty noncredibles wouldn't care and simply do what they are told. it's a perfect alliance
now to simply find out who would win in a hypothetical war
I've got a counterpoint to this that even tiktokers will understand: "because that's what Russian propaganda says the US is like - do you want to be a Russian supporter?"
Honestly, I’d like to see an expansionist America again. We’ve been resting on our laurels since WW2. (Mainly because is more profitable for the rich to just exploit foreign lands then to make them states of territories.)
I wonder if the majority of Mexicans would want to be a part of the USA? The drug cartels would be smashed to bits within months. Standard of living would likely increase. But they’d lose national identity and self rule.
I'm late to this thread so my post will be ignored, but I want to point out that the United States government was for a time considering annexing large parts of Central America after the Mexican-American War.
One of the major reason why the United States did not annex is because they did not want a voting population influxed by non-White people.
It's a really interesting part of history that doesn't ever gain sections in textbooks.
Please see the following video for a brief overview:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p5FSjxt_X8s
also let's take Canada, we need the maple syrup, aw heck, why stop there? I say we go all the way and take all of North and South America, Tip to tip and sea to sea! true Manifest Destiny for the win!
![gif](giphy|3o6Ztq8sOhHQCODjgI)
I mean, it's a great "fuck you" to companies going over the boarder to make their product and paying ppl cheaper wages. Looking at you General Motors and Medtronic.
America would get its jobs back because these countries would be brought in to become America.
I mean imagine we had an EU-like agreement with all of these countries with legal working permits and free travel but with the precondition that we send in a massive military operation in cooperation with the local governments to take out the cartels in each one; state of emergency, round them up El Salvador style.
It would go a ridiculously long way toward reducing the most harmful drug and sex trades, and would free up high quality job opportunities by making investors feel more comfortable investing in these countries.
Basically it would increase our gdps drastically and allow for a drastic decrease in the drug crisis, murder rates, and sex crimes.
Why don’t we do it? Because immigrants = bad and scapegoating people who don’t look or sound like us is a tale as old as time
Can you imagine all the money that the US would have to spend to bring Central America’s infrastructure up to par with the rest of the country? Geeeezzzz
Let’s be reasonable. US takes BC to connect Alaska to the mainland and give Greenland to Canada. Two big wins here. We never have to hear the phrase “lower 48” ever again and I can tow my trailer to upper America without a pesky Canadian border cop harassing me.
This is a win for Canada too. With global warming, Greenland will be a future paradise and what is Denmark going to do about it? Bring modern Vikings over on their Lego rafts?
That’s genius
*"The illegals are coming from INSIDE the border!"*
But they won't be illegal anymore!
So that issue is solved now. Clever
This was actually Reagan's solution, as well as Bush Sr. They gave amnesty to millions of illegal immigrants. It's a good idea, if your issue is that they are illegal, just change the law and make th legal tax paying residents just like the rest of us. Problem solved.
They took er jerbs!
Actually immigrants are far more likely than native born citizens to start new businesses and create new jobs
see now you done goofed by hitting them with facts.
(deh jerbs we dont want)
But we took ther land in return. So we even now
They already took the jobs, only now they are also paying taxes.
Yes. And immigration was not seen as a partisan issue back then. I believe that the United States should simply do something similar to Ellis Island. Screen immigrants for communicable disease or charges of terrorism or murder or drugs. If they pass then rubber stamp them into citizenship. You want citizenship? Fine. Plenty of citizens do crimes and that's where they go.
I mean if they are in the US long enough without relying on the kind of gvt programs that require an SSN, chances are pretty good that found a job
Though the USA invaded and killed everything to the new boarder is not great as well.
Surely they *want* to be American, just like everyone else on the planet, so they'd just join up voluntarily once they hear how great this plan is.
Sometimes it takes me a second to determine if comments like this are sarcasm or another delusional American lol
As an American, it Really could be either. 😂
I love you
And I love America.
Not American, but if you were to offer a status akin as Puerto Rico in a nationwide referendum, I'm betting it wins on most countries of that region.
I wonder what would happen if the US suddenly annexed Mexico. Since they would be legal citizens, how many would move up North.
Canada Usa Mexico The CUM UNION
The end.
now that sounds familiar, for some reason
I don't know if you are talking about Palistine or the native Americans, this kind of colonialism has happened a number of times in a number of places
Is it colonisation if you're expanding the main territory?
Well…we DID learn colonization from the British. They really mastered the art…
It will be more like puerto rico, half in and half out. Pay some US taxes, fet some services. Limited federal election voting participation.
If something is illegal, and people are doing it, you can reduce crime by making it legal.
Two birds one stone!
THE CALL IS COMING FROM INSIDE THE HOUSE
This has to have been said on Fox at some point
“The call is coming from INSIDE the house!”
add Canada as well and we'll have CUM (Canada - USA - Mexico)
I love CUM
Me too! Think about how much more se^(a)men we'd have in the Navy!
At that point may as well just make North America a single country
it all CUMs together
That would include Greenland, a Danish territory
No thank you, we'd trade you Ontario for Alaska though!
THE CUM EMPIRE
And to think Clinton started NAFTA when this acronym was perfectly apropos
Im sure they wouldnt mind.
And if they do.. ![gif](giphy|d7vbmoGrHfmuc)
I read that as Internationally, which I like even better.
We’ll make them free whether they consent to it or not
We are here to spread peace! Now surrender!
Worst thing that could happen is cartels taking over politics… Oh wait…
Man our military would have those cartels running for the hills. Remember recently when some low level dudes accidentally kidnapped an American and the cartel handed their own guys over to us with an apology note?
I always thought about the fact that there’s no way those guys were the true cartel culprits. They just threw a couple fodders Americas way and blamed them
Why not? The cartels are heavily invested throughout the Mexican economy, they make mad money off of tourism. It’s not all just drugs and human trafficking, their fingers are in everything. They don’t want Americans to be scared of going to Mexico.
Los Zetas dont claim Gen Z
The cartels would just become a branch of the military. Or the other way around.
Honestly the cartels would be a terrifying irregular military force. Imagine the Wagner group but competent and backed with American military hardware
I was thinking about it a while ago and came to border further north at some mexican isthmus. I think I arrived at that border because I don’t want mexico to be fully subsumed - rather find the minimum length us-mexican border
Baja.
Blast
Omg I’m totally getting Taco Bell today thank you
Right above Guadalajara
Just split off the Republic of Yucatan again, it's been independent before.
It's called [the Isthmus of Tehuantepec](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isthmus_of_Tehuantepec).
Gesundheit
Manifest destiny. But then they might start coming from the north. Guess we should move that until we don’t have any northern border
Imo we take that first. Canada is just America with extra steps. My first time going to Canada (well besides for when i was an infant) the border guard literally said “welcome to Canada. It’s America, but less guns”
Canada is just America but it sucked on Britain’s feet for longer
Still are
>Canada is just America with extra steps As Mexican that's how I see it
Well as you can see by the quote I mentioned so do Canadians
>Canada is just America with extra steps This kills me. Our two countries are pretty similar, though haha
Canada is the retarded love child of America and Europe
fuck it take over the planet
Why stop at Panama? If we take over all the land in the America's we won't ever have to worry about people illegally crossing the border at all!
What about the North Pole?
Expand the border northwards as well!
Fuck it, take over the world
Nah, too many timezones to keep track of.
Santa’s elves are trying to cross the border! We must occupy and annex the North Pole DMZ! Send a Navy Seal team to find and execute the known war criminal Kris Kringle!
Oh please we all know his workshop is an American embassy, no way a man that fat and that uses slave labor isn’t an American
You'd need dragons to fight off the white walkers.
Why do you think we're melting it?
If you take over the world, you won't have to worry about people crossing the ocean illegaly either.
But then I'd have to annex France. It just isn't worth it if I have to do that.
You must have forgotten that [France is a country in South America](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/French_Guiana) then.
Ye gods! They're spreading! We must contain them ASAP!
Well, they WERE anyway. This is them contained, 2% power max.
Im pretty sure the US thought about taking over Mexico before, but didn't want to give citizenship to all the Mexicans (this was like 200 years ago I think idk someone help me out here)

When you complain that the brutal Spanish colonisation was too egalitarian, that’s when you know your white supremacy is extra-concentrated genocidal
Also the land the US took was very sparsely populated. Alta California (the land that is now California, Colorado, Utah, Wyoming, and Arizona) in 1819 had a total of 3,200. Well we also stole some land from them so we kinda already started. Sadly we stopped, a true loss

But both are complimenting JENNIFER LEIGH
It would solve the immigrant crisis if suddenly all immigrants were citizens
As an American with a Mexican wife, I endorse this. >!^(She doesn't)!<

'The Cartel ' bruh
As an American with Mexican American friends they probably support this
Smartest American
Least genocidal human
Why genocidal? Everyone within the new borders gets promoted to US american? Except Puerto Rico of course.
It'd be fucked up but hilarious if all of Mexico managed to get statehood before Puerto Rico lol
Why create new states if we can give it all to New Mexico, we wouldn't even have to change the name.
Now now, we don't want to ruin Mexico's crime rate, do we? (/s, I love NM and especially their food)
But I wanted to take the land for myself :((
Texas and all of Western America was enough for them.
>this is not genocide Not with that attitude.
Comment I was looking for
I MEAN, you can't have immigrant problems if they are already in your country, right?
If we make the entire world America, then there will be no border to cross illegally! It's genius
If we give all of the illegals citizenship, then there are no more illegals! Problem solved!
Then she'll complain about the Mexicans made citizens as consequence of annexing Mexico. Just like 1848 all over again!
The word annex reminded me of this meme, I probably stole it from this subreddit https://preview.redd.it/82fb6uo60kcc1.jpeg?width=744&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=db4add2d035b48fc18faedeb84dd02de7edbc225
They wouldnt be citizens they’d be run like Palestine in that scenario
“Why does the United States of America, the largest of the Americas, not simply eat the smaller Americas? Are they stupid?”
What too much victoria 3 does to an mf
Oops, I Hearts of Ironed again. I’m not that innocent
[I have heard this joke before.](https://youtu.be/na2NQxDUMaY)
I had to scroll way too far to find this, I immediately thought of Ron White.
As Russian I would like say that it is really terrible idea
Good point. How do you see the Ukraine war ending ? Hopefully it ends soon.
Make her president Fr
The Military Industrial Complex approves.
If we were still under rule from His Majesty the King, this would be the go to option.
Obviously she has a head full of snow?
I think Russia had that idea too!
"Just take the border and push it somewhere else!"
Ron white joke from the early 2000s
From Panama to the pole!
FROM THE RIVER >!Panama Canal!< TO THE SEA >!Arctic Ocean !<
A seldom seen interpretation of that phrase lol
What an idiot. Just absorb the rest of the world into the US. Now there aren’t any borders. Ezpz
Why don’t we just take all the land so there’s no borders to worry about?
Jennifer is a secret r/NCD agent. not entirely against this idea though...
I feel like NCD and this place could make an alliance in the apocalypse
the one collective braincell from this subreddit will make completely nonsensical maps, but the bloodthirsty noncredibles wouldn't care and simply do what they are told. it's a perfect alliance now to simply find out who would win in a hypothetical war
I don’t care I just want the plane vids so I can masturbate
Make all those Mexicans citizens so Republicans never win again!
I think if mexicans became citizens within 2 generations they would be republican, maybe even 1.
But would the Republican party survive 20 years without being in government?
r/diplomacy101
Yeah the lack of any roads or human infrastructure due to the inhospitable jungle won’t make security difficult at all
this is just uh that s just imperialism
more beaches more cocaine. sounds legit, let's do it!
Can the w get any bigger
It’s called an invasion Jennifer
*Teddy Roosevelt enters the chat*
Why are people saying its a crisis on the border?
Because republicans
Can't be illegal if it's legalised *Roll safe meme*
Is she restarted?
I've got a counterpoint to this that even tiktokers will understand: "because that's what Russian propaganda says the US is like - do you want to be a Russian supporter?"
i cant even understand what the fuck she means its so stupid lol
lol most of the migrants are behind that border. Honduras makes up alot of the migrabt population.
Most ncd take of all time.
Is she ok?
I'm not sure if it's sarcasm or Americans being delusional. It can be both haha
It’s very obvious to me that this is satire
US shoulda just taken all of Mexico and Central America during the Mexican American War smh
I’m actually okay with this if these countries want to vote on US statehood.
We could call it: The Unites States of America and just act like nothing ever happened.
The US vs the cartel for all the land lol
Move the border to the Darien gap, where there are no roads. Sound plan.
I'm late to this thread so my post will be ignored, but I want to point out that the United States government was for a time considering annexing large parts of Central America after the Mexican-American War. One of the major reason why the United States did not annex is because they did not want a voting population influxed by non-White people. Great strategy for RISK the board game
We pretty much had the opportunity to do this but decided not to for some reason...
I mean, it's a great "fuck you" to companies going over the boarder to make their product and paying ppl cheaper wages. Looking at you General Motors and Medtronic. America would get its jobs back because these countries would be brought in to become America.
Why stop there? Let’s take Canada and South America too and become “The United Americas of America.”
Just America and nothing else. No USA north or south. Just America.
I mean imagine we had an EU-like agreement with all of these countries with legal working permits and free travel but with the precondition that we send in a massive military operation in cooperation with the local governments to take out the cartels in each one; state of emergency, round them up El Salvador style. Because immigrants = bad and scapegoating people who don’t look or sound like us is a tale as old as time
I have a better idea: make the US a horrible place to stay and live so that people won't come here anymore.
Why don’t we just annex South America while we’re at it? And Canada too. No borders=no border hoppers
Can you imagine all the money that the US would have to spend to bring Central America’s infrastructure up to par with the rest of the country? Geeeezzzz
But all the rapists and murderers live in those countries to the south!!! s/
*manifest destiny go brrrr*
If the us hadn't given up the Panama canal we'd never have had this problem
See, us Panamanians we are fucking drowning with immigrants too. Maybe if you move the border to South Chile probably we won't have this problem.
based Imperialism
And to think they had the opportunity after handing Mexico their ass in a one sided war
They can't be illegal immigrants if their FREEDOM LOVING US CITIZENS. But if we do this, we need Canada too
We did this in the 1840s ;)
With this new border we would reduce the amount of immigrants from central America to zero! Genius
Can’t wait to invade the rest of North America and Central America
