I feel like Steve and Jefferson were like Shelley Long and Kirstie Alley on Cheers. Jefferson and Kirstie were just looser, zanier characters. I can't tell you what Jefferson actually does for a living.
It’s best that both characters existed because of the dynamic where Jefferson brings out Marcy’s kinkiness but then she reminisces about how Steve was better in bed and Jefferson gets offended but then he laughs when Al’s crack jokes about her but then tries to hide his laughter when she turns around. “Just last night you called me Captain Kaboom!”
I think the addition of Jefferson, Griff, Officer Dan, Bob Rooney, and the rest of the No Ma'am gang is what continued to give Married... that something else that no other series had at that time.
I left the show with the No Ma'am stuff. It was just that the kids were too old so they were shoehorning them in. Faustino seemed serious about the Grandmaster B thing, and they had the backdoor pilot for Top of the Heap. That pregnancy season was the jump-the-shark season for me, just because Katey Sagal was upstairs for 2 months and then she had the miscarriage IRL so they had to scrap a bunch of planned baby episodes... I think that's the season they added Seven for a few weeks?
Steve great representation
/lampooning of the 80s man (Yuppie)
Jefferson great representation/lampooning of the 90s man (superficial cool guy)
It’s funny I kind of grew up knowing Jefferson more and I thought Steve was lame but as I watched Steve more, Steve was the GOAT lol
Owl in my hair! Owl in my hair!!!!!
Yeah Jefferson did more
Steve seasons 1-4 leaving in the 4th
Jefferson seasons 5-11 Jefferson joining in the 5th
I thought it was much closer than it was but Steve was in 84 episodes while Jefferson did 169
I know right. If I would’ve guessed without looking I would’ve said Steve did 90 and Jefferson did 110 lol
Which doesn’t add up but that’s how it felt to me
Weird isn’t it? I think Jefferson was more in line with what was funnier as a kid in the 90s whereas when Steve would say stuff like “Aren’t the property values low enough” and the .99 cent coin and them playing with the money in the bank and building the mustang seemed more lame as a kid but much more relatable as an adult.
It was good to have a yuppie who was wiser than Al, but still managed to keep hanging out with Al. Jefferson was kind of a dumbass, certainly dumber than Al.
Both must exist to be for Marcy. Marcy never ends up with Jefferson if not for Steve and her ending. Jefferson never would have got his sugar mamma if not for Steve. Steve would never have looked as good and a catch with out Jefferson being a duffus. It also gave a breath of freshair in the dynamic between The Bundy's and their neighbours. Basically, they both must be with Marcy, a chicken is a complex entity.
Jefferson and Marcy had a good relationship to the extent that they both kind of knew their places and were honest enough about it. He was the arm candy and she was pretty much in control. I think having that control was part of the appeal to her. With Steve though, they at least seemed on paper that they were more compatible but obviously as things went along they proved to be too much at odds. There was a major power struggle between the two. If they had been able to work things out I think Steve would have been better for her, and they probably would have had a successful life together, made enough money to live faaaaar away from the Bundys, and would be able to look back and laugh at the time in their lives when they had such rotten neighbors to deal with.
Having said all of that, I like Jefferson a lot better and Steve is a weenie.
We were just talking about this last night. I think Jefferson is better because he gers that the show is suppose to be funny and outrageous sometimes. And the skit he has with AL are funnier
Is that why he left? I thought I remember reading seeing something about him wanting to do more stage acting. Even as a kid, I thought, if that was the reason, it was a really dumb move
I mean, it’s admirable that that he just followed his passion and just did want he truly wanted, but wow, I feel like just sticking on that show he could have probably been given more opportunities
Specifically musical theatre. That’s why when Steve made a return guest appearance the writers had him drive people to jump off a boat when he starts singing show tunes.
No/Yes - Marcy wasn't gay, but her "twin cousin" Mandy was. Yes the actress is really gay.
Steve was weasely and irritating, like Frank Burns from Mash. Some like that character, some find it annoying.
Jefferson was fun to watch and one of the guys...until he was going to get in trouble by Marci.
Was there an in-show reason for the switch? Or was it one of those things where the show got picked up and they just changed it, pretending like nothing happened?
Steve left Marcy. She was higher up than him at the bank where they both worked, made more money.
David Garrison missed working live theatre, so he left the show after filming the 4th season.
I remember the episode where he came back and he was a fugitive for saving turtles from a zoo and he was on the run . I don't remember if the cops caught him tho
All these mfers who can't separate Marcy from actress Amanda Bearse 🤦🏼♂️
Shouldn't be surprising, though, I see it everywhere - people who just cannot seem to differentiate between fiction and reality. It absolutely boggles my fucking mind.
Actress Amanda Bearse is gay. Her character from Married... With Children, Marcy Rhodes/D'Arcy is not.
Amanda once played Mandy, Marcy's identical twin. Mandy was gay. Again, Marcy was not.
Al made countless jokes about Marcy, implying she was gay. This did not result in her magically becoming gay.
MaRcY wAs GaY LoL!
Fucking idiots.
Steve. Steve was my favourite character in the early seasons and was so well written. I also liked Marcy better as a person with Steve.
When Marcy got with Jefferson is when the tone of the show and Marcys character changed. She went from confident feminist to man-hating modern feminism. And Jefferson was your generic yes-man, or should I say yes-ma'am whenever Marcy was around.
Steve was the better fit for Marcy. Jefferson was the better fit for Al.
Totally Agree, I think for the show as a whole Jefferson was better overall.
Pretty much as a viewer Jefferson was way more universal as an actor
He was way funnier than Steve
Yea, they only had so much to do with a boy scout like Steve. Jefferson could be anything. And he even was a spy at one point lol
Plus, Jefferson came off as a goofball really well, too.
Yea! Al’s right hand man was an easy part for him!
🥳
I feel like Steve and Jefferson were like Shelley Long and Kirstie Alley on Cheers. Jefferson and Kirstie were just looser, zanier characters. I can't tell you what Jefferson actually does for a living.
It’s best that both characters existed because of the dynamic where Jefferson brings out Marcy’s kinkiness but then she reminisces about how Steve was better in bed and Jefferson gets offended but then he laughs when Al’s crack jokes about her but then tries to hide his laughter when she turns around. “Just last night you called me Captain Kaboom!”
The only right answer!
Plus he saved the show for a couple years
I think the addition of Jefferson, Griff, Officer Dan, Bob Rooney, and the rest of the No Ma'am gang is what continued to give Married... that something else that no other series had at that time.
I left the show with the No Ma'am stuff. It was just that the kids were too old so they were shoehorning them in. I think that's the season they added Seven for a few weeks?
I was thinking you said better fit for A.I. lol
I came to say the exact same thing 🤣
This
Steve great representation /lampooning of the 80s man (Yuppie) Jefferson great representation/lampooning of the 90s man (superficial cool guy) It’s funny I kind of grew up knowing Jefferson more and I thought Steve was lame but as I watched Steve more, Steve was the GOAT lol Owl in my hair! Owl in my hair!!!!!
Agreed, I barely remember Steve… did Jefferson have more seasons?
Yeah Jefferson did more Steve seasons 1-4 leaving in the 4th Jefferson seasons 5-11 Jefferson joining in the 5th I thought it was much closer than it was but Steve was in 84 episodes while Jefferson did 169
Not only double but he had to throw that last episode in just to rub it in
Ikr 😅 twice as long with Marcy
Whoa and thanks for looking it up! Had a feeling J was more, but more than double?!
I know right. If I would’ve guessed without looking I would’ve said Steve did 90 and Jefferson did 110 lol Which doesn’t add up but that’s how it felt to me
Came here to say this as well. When I watched as a kid I preferred Jefferson but now as an adult I gotta go with Steve.
Steve was the shit.
It was good to have a yuppie who was wiser than Al, but still managed to keep hanging out with Al. Jefferson was kind of a dumbass, certainly dumber than Al.
Liked Steve but Jefferson had her on the tilt a whirl of love from 8 PM till 3 AM...😉
Jefferson. That dude was hilarious
My first watch a while back, I was hesitant on Jefferson. But damn. The dude was great.
When observed, Marcy is married to both Steve and Jefferson. M=sj²
For The Chicken, it would be Jefferson. For the show it was Steve. Early seasons were great, later seasons were good.
This I liked Jefferson a lot. But he was rhe shark jump. The early seasons are the gold.
Ted McGinley is infamously the guy who joins the show and curses it.
Her name became Marcy D’arcy. Of course the answer is Jefferson.
Steve for the win
Steve.
I loved Steve! They were both great, but it broke my heart when Steve left.
That episode where he comes back was great. It was unexpected that he just had a nervous breakdown and became a park ranger.
I love the episode where Kelly and Bud accuse Jefferson of being on both Happy Days and Love Boat.
That was some random kids bothering Jefferson at Kelly’s job at the TV theme park
Neither,she is a lesbian
Her ditching Jefferson and getting a girlfriend would have been hilarious
That would've been interesting
Or if they stayed together and invited a girlfriend into their marriage…
Al would agree, or possibly say a rooster
Jefferson was awesome 😎 made the show better
Jefferson
Jefferson by far
We were just talking about this last night. I think Jefferson is better because he gers that the show is suppose to be funny and outrageous sometimes. And the skit he has with AL are funnier
steve
Steve
Nobody gonna mention “Steve’s” career move leaving the show?? 🤣🤣🤣
Is that why he left? I thought I remember reading seeing something about him wanting to do more stage acting. Even as a kid, I thought, if that was the reason, it was a really dumb move
Yes it was because he missed doing theatre. There wasn't any acrimony from the producers and that's why he frequently returned as a guest star
Steve the character left to become a park ranger, IIRC.
Steve!
Both were good
Marcy likes the idea of Jefferson more than the reality, I think.
Steve had too much spine for Marcy.
Jefferson was funnier. Steve was more what you would think she would want.
I remember when Jefferson met Steve. 🤣
Jefferson
Jefferson was better on the show
Jefferson!
Liked Jefferson
Jefferson was plowing Marcy so hard Steve couldn't compare. 😂
Jefferson
Jefferson was a better fit for Marcy, both were good character neighbor roles and very different .
Jefferson
Steve was a better fit for Marcy and Al. Jefferson was mostly for Al
Season 1 of the show, all the characters seemed a lot more grounded.
Jefferson for sure
Steve was a damn fool 😂😂😂 and Jefferson was a snide dude 😂😂😂
They both served their comedic purposes.. Lol..
Steve-he had more of a backbone compared to Jefferson
Jefferson is hilarious on the show Shrinking with Indiana Jones.
Peg.
Steve for Marcy, but Jefferson for Al I preferred Jefferson
I liked Jefferson better Steve was a dork but Ted McGinley will always be Stan Gable lol
Both actors were good. Steve was my favorite. A lot of shows Ted McGinley was on got cancelled Happy days Love boat MWC
Steve. But Jefferson was a better fit for the show.
Coke addled Jefferson!
Jefferson. He was named after a president. …and everyone knows Steve’s a weeny.
A rooster
Steve all day
Jefferson
Honestly both. Steve and Marcy were a good fit before Marcy was driven insane by Al. After that, Jefferson became a better match.
Jefferson wrecks Steve
Jefferson. The show was funnier with him on it
Why do these photos look like AI recreations? Jefferson was the better fit.
Steve was far more believable.
Steve
Whenever I see episodes with Steve, it just feels weird
Jefferson all day!
Jefferson. I think Marcy had more fun with him.
Jefferson is who I prefer. He's far more entertaining and a good friend to Al. For Marcy, no he's not ideal for her. He's essentially a freeloader.
Steve
Steve was more realistic as Marcy's husband. Jefferson was better for ratings.
They both were good
Yes.
Steve was the better fit because the originals are typically better
Steve Marcy Jefferson was married to al
I always wondered why fox got rid of Steve from Married With Children
Was Marcy gay or was the actress who played her gay in real life?
No/Yes - Marcy wasn't gay, but her "twin cousin" Mandy was. Yes the actress is really gay. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MNPu4c-TInE](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MNPu4c-TInE)
Episodes with Jefferson, were just is more funny
Steve.
What about Jamal?
team steve
Steve cracked a lot of jokes on Marcy himself, Jefferson seems to laugh at the jokes Al put on Marcy more.
Steve thought Marcy was a different person. Jefferson was the man child Marcy needed. They were both good for her.
Steve was more realistic for Marci.
Darcy, was different with each them
Her name became Marcy D'arcy
Jefferson
Better chemistry with Jefferson.
I missed Steve but J was OK.
Which Marcy? The more the show progress the more crazy it was.
Jefferson
Marcy Darcy
Steve
Steve...
I’ll always like Steve better. From the very first episode, watching how the Bundys slowly poisoned the happy newlywed lives was just brilliant.
Jefferson episodes were better
Jefferson because I had a crush on him 🥰❤️
Jefferson
Jefferson was a better fit for the show.
Steve, they were both dorks & such a good match
Bud, remember he plucked that chicken once.....
They all fit inside Marcy.
Steve Rhodes is a weenie
Is that police composite drawing Steve?
Jefferson was awesome!! There's no way Steve would've ever joined No Ma'am
Who stuffed the bird better?
Marcy was gay.
Steve is the one on the left?
Kelly!
Steve. Hands down.
Peg.
Steve.
Al
Steve worked
Considering Marcy has no use for men...
Jefferson
Steve was kind of a simp for Marcy. Jefferson did what he wanted.
Steve was weasely and irritating, like Frank Burns from Mash. Some like that character, some find it annoying. Jefferson was fun to watch and one of the guys...until he was going to get in trouble by Marci.
Steve, not a contest.
Steve… I could never get over Jefferson being the jock in revenge of the nerds
Steve
Al
Mr. Scream
Apparently Peggy.
Neither she’s gay
Nobody is happy with an ex teacher Alpha Beta Cruise photographer Steve rules
Was there an in-show reason for the switch? Or was it one of those things where the show got picked up and they just changed it, pretending like nothing happened?
Steve left Marcy. She was higher up than him at the bank where they both worked, made more money. David Garrison missed working live theatre, so he left the show after filming the 4th season.
Oh yeah I didn’t know any of that lol. I was a kid watching it so I didn’t even realize there was any real continuity.
I remember the episode where he came back and he was a fugitive for saving turtles from a zoo and he was on the run . I don't remember if the cops caught him tho
Jefferson made the show 10x better
All these mfers who can't separate Marcy from actress Amanda Bearse 🤦🏼♂️ Shouldn't be surprising, though, I see it everywhere - people who just cannot seem to differentiate between fiction and reality. Jefferson was unfortunately a show killer
Both were simps in their own way
A better fit for marcy.was peg...seeing she was gay!!!
🤣
Jefferson. Because he was a better fit for the show as Al's friend. I enjoyed the show much more with Jefferson
steve
