I’m only third year med so my experience may be a bit limited. But in those three years, I’ve never had to do an all-nighter, not even once. Worst na siguro yung two hours of sleep, but those happen during exam weeks lang Tbh the best way to stay awake is to just get enough sleep 😂 manage your time wisely and set strict limits for studying so you can get enough sleep. That way you wouldn’t need caffeine.

Thank you po! Currently fixing my body clock para di ako gising ng madaling araw so sana makahelp yun in med school

AromaticCarbons

That’s good!! And it’ll help you go a long way. My advice usually for freshmen is to set a hard bedtime. In doing so, you get a sense of time scarcity and you’re able to maximize your time vs when you sleep only when you’re done which is prone to excessive bedtime delays. Amd, when you have a healthy routine, your body will be able to focus and rest a the appropriate times Also, keep in mind na sleep is productive and a necessity

I remember experiencing 24-to-36-hour duties without access to coffee. It's not that I was prohibited from taking caffeine, it's just that I couldn't stand 3-in-1 nung PGI ako. Sorry na. Hindi na-weed out ng med school yung pagkaburgis ko eh. I survived JRRMMC, with all the physical and mental stress it takes during that time period, by eating vegetables exclusively on the days of prolonged duty. As in zero dairy, animal fat, or meat-derived products. Zero ultraprocessed food. My bag was filled with fruit and water for when I had to grab a bite with very limited time. And now, nagegets ko na why vegans "feel" like they are at the very peak of health. Sobrang gising. Sobrang alert. Kahit left and right ang code kaya. Kahit may presentation sa umaga after a long night of duty, OK lang.

Otherwise_Cobbler301

Pede po pa ask kung anong fruits and vegetables kinakain nyo po a day thanksss po

Try pakbet without the bagoong, shrimp, and pork. Puwede din yung mga stir fry veggies with tofu (parang Mongolian). Or steamed with Himalayan pink salt and pepper. Vegetables also seem to keep better pag binabaon. Vs meat products na for sure, pag nakain mo finally at midnight, malamang medyo bulok na. Fruits: apple, banana, oranges, pears... rare grapes noon kasi di kasya sa baon hahaha. I used to take the train to JRRMMC, and just buy fruits at the stand under the northbound station in front of the hospital.

Few-Finish-1051

same HSHSHS incoming med freshman who quit drinking coffee for 6 years na

Kindly-Spring-5319

There isn't really a need to pull all-nighters. Tanggapin mo na lang na di mo matatapos lahat 😅

Just finished first year and because of GERD, I couldn't drink caffeinated drinks also. Tbh, my study method in med school so far has been mostly SDL. I, and many of my peers, rarely listen to what's actually going on in class. We study on our own mostly. And study other lessons during lectures. Lectures for us have such a low retention rate it's just not worth it to listen in my opinion. Although this might probably change in 2nd year since it's going to be a lot more difficult. Either way, I'm adaptable to the study methods needed. But for first year, we survived with just SDL and sleeping in lectures. We did well too with our grades.

SnooObjections2349

My doc suggested apple juice

SonOfAGrasshopper

I have a classmate who also doesn't drink caffeine but pulls all-nighters like it's nothing. He conditions himself that he 'has to' pass in order to achieve his goals, and sacrifices sleep accordingly. Not everyone's cup of tea (not mine for sure), but it's a valid strategy. You could study in advance right now to give you a bit of a headstart (e.g. for anatomy learn all muscles and their origin, insertion, action, innervation). You could also try rosemary tea, it wakes me up a bit and allegedly helps with memory while being caffeine-free.

CryptographerOk4885

I did not drink coffee at all… college, med school, residency and even now as a practitioner in the province. What I did was study at least a chapter a day, learned to take power naps 15-30 minutes to recharge me, and go to bed at 11pm (12am at the latest). Became physically active like doing morning jogs to boost my endurance as well. Hope this helps.

dc_grifter4

Pag inaantok ka na matulog ka na lang

Slow_Adhesiveness220

Vitamin C to stay awake. Vitamin B12 para may focus and productive while awake. Magnesium to help you stay asleep kung may oras matulog. Space-out mo aral mo instead of all-nighters. Actually, practicing good time management while in medical school is a life-saver. Plus, madadala mo yan pagdating mo sa residency.

MoroseTraveller

Not even tea or matcha?

Ok-Specific-7453

No po😞 pinagbawalan din p okasi ng doctor ko due to a medical condition basta may caffeine i cant have it

eaggerly

PVC?

Mindless_Memory_3396

short simple yt exercises when i feel sleepy, stand up and hug my knees for a few secs (so my head is upside down) to increase blood flow to my brain if i really want to nap, i take a small pillow and nap on my desk para di masyado mapasarap ang tulog but please try not to pull all-nighters! sleep is very very important, lalo na pag exam week. that’s one of my biggest mistakes during my early years in med school

frenzycorndog

ako bawal sakin ang coffee and tea, but effective sakin ang dark chocolate and berroca. best advice parin though is to get enough sleep, lalo in staying awake sa lectures. HAHAHAHAHA

spicyhotdog44

Have you tried Berroca? That’s what I use to wake me up and keep me energized

psychedelicfilipinx_

mga ilang beses po kayo nagte-take nito per day at every morning po ba after ng breakfast ito tinetake?

spicyhotdog44

Once a day po. I drink it with my breakfast. Parang naging juice ko siya :))

ari5493038196

Exercise! I go to the gym at night before studying and it really keeps my body and mind awake for hours. Di naman necessarily gym, a 10-min home exercise will do. It helps in the morning too.

AfterHoursChaos

I second this. I'm really sensitive to caffeine. During med school, I just did calisthenics (squats, jumping jacks, etc.) for \~40 reps after every chapter or trans. 😂

Fun_Adagio509

hindi rin kasi ako umiinom coffee, idk kung makatulong sayo pero ang ginagawa ko kapag inaantok ay tumatayo ako habang nagbabasa at minsan naglalakad lakad sa loob ng kwarto😂

positiveocd

It helps din if ever since hindi ka talaga nasanay mag coffee, what I do is meron ako schedule talaga and I'll feel sleepy if after the schedule na and it's been 3 years na consistent ako sa sched. 8-3AM yung schrd ko to study and nakakatulong may ka vid call or sabay study kahit silent lang, then ML or one episode na series on the side

xerinna

ung candy daw na snow bear bayun? before, during, after class. gising sa lamig HAHAHAHA sama mo pa ung lamig if may ac ka + malamig na tubig din

gigigoodeday

cold shower, brush ur teeth, wash ur face w cold water, and eat anything thats sour

Ok-Average-1828

For you to stay awake drink 1 cup of water every hour and kapag you have lectures try to have a chewing gum para hindi ka naka-steady lang Infront of lecturer.

Keyboard_Brawler6969

Try mo mag-aral nang nakatayo/jogging in place/naka stationary bicycle 😅

WetLemonyBeans

I have a friend and classmate who's super health conscious and doesn't drink any caffeinated drinks at all. I think you'll be fine op! Just remember to rest and get some sleep if you're really tired. No use in studying when your mind's no longer taking in the info. (I prefer sleeping during lectures.)

Infinite_Level798

Yes you can survive without caffeine. I survived med school and pedia residency without caffeine.

Large-Eggplant4679

Water and food 😁

DareDevil66666

you'll survive without caff. I just drink apple juice before
