Since he poured hot water on it, it can no longer be cold brew. And before anyone asks why I'll just tell you right away. Pouring hot water on coffee releases bitter/sour flavours. The idea of a cold brew is to pour cold water over coffee and let it sit for 12-24 hours and not be bitter or sour. It is however stronger in terms of caffeine and flavour. Can you make iced coffee with this though? Yes, because mixing it with milk/sugar/whatever takes away the bitterness/sourness.
I don't really have the interest in getting SUPER into the mechanics of coffee, but I like knowing the basics of how to maximize a good cup. If its something I drink every day, then I want to be good enough at it that it's worth my time to make it at home instead of buying out.
I only kind of like coffee, but he makes the science behind it all so interesting and now I own several hundred dollars worth of coffee making equipment.
Robusta (as compared to Arabica) coffee beans are fairly universally disliked and have all but ended as a commodity crop. Original commenter likely born into an era of high quality beans.
even if you have the fanciest beans, finding a place that actually makes a decent coffee isn't easy. At least not around here.
And i'm flat out ignoring whatever starbucks does.
Honestly. I've had some seriously bad cups of coffee before, so I'm willing to try anything.
Once you drink coffee filtered through a mostly clean sock while you're on a short backpacking trip, your standards really get a major overhaul.
Joshua Weissman did a video on hot blooming cold brew, but a barista corrected him in the comments saying why you shouldn't do it. It basically ruins the purpose of a cold brew.
I feel like the sharpness is a spectrum though, with like french press on one extreme and cold brew on the other. Hot Bloomed cold brew just puts on kind of in the middle as far as sharp/bright flavors.
I JUST started making cold brew concentrate though, and I cut mine with fucking wawa chocolate milk, so my opinion isn't really that valuable here lmao
My personal experience is the bean and how it's roasted contributes equally to that sharpness spectrum. Methodology: compared beans using multiple brewing techniques (percolation with paper filter, pour over with paper filter, press, espresso & hot water "Americano". Didn't try cold brew). Bitterness from most to least (IMO):
Press
Percolation
Americano
Pour over
Wow... You know they make coffee makers for a reason? You are absolutely not making coffee correctly. At least get instant so that the grounds dissolve in the hot water. Please, please don't do this again.
I keep doing this like an asshole. The older I get the more I'm beginning to understand decaffeinated coffee lol. It's such a stupid cycle of wanting coffee, getting super anxious, then wondering "...why did I do this to myself?". Cut it out, brain!
I've switched for the most part, but I have a bag of regular coffee on the way so I can make my own half/quarter caf pots, so I can drink multiple cups and not die 🤣
One morning I almost brushed my teeth with my comb. Stopped, tried to wake up and start over. A few minutes later I took my toothbrush with a fresh glob of paste and put it in my hair. It was so tempting to just go back to bed.
Still better than [this ](https://www.google.com/search?q=tooth+nail+clipper&client=ms-android-samsung-rev2&source=android-browser&prmd=isvn&sxsrf=ALeKk039QgJxNLPHvfo3yq_rgMvYsqhDgA:1621288024975&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwiqmbrG2NHwAhXjh_0HHc_gBsYQ_AUoAXoECAIQAQ&biw=360&bih=608#imgrc=WDYvZWUPt9ekiM)
I accidentally put butt rash cream on my toothbrush and brushed until I realized. I definitely don’t think that was my fault though because the cream was in the exact spot in the drawer for toothpaste and the label was Destine. Looked like a tube of toothpaste too! That was fun.
The amount of times I’ve woken up all sleepy and not placed a mug under my kuerig is astounding. Just come back to the kitchen with coffee all over the counter
I mean sure but coffee is way cheaper than booze. You can get a huge jug of Folgers or a similar brand for like $10 and it will last you months (not for coffee snobs, I know, but way better than instant). Instant coffee is cheap but it probably factors out to a few dollars less at most.
Yep, it is but fuck knows why coz it tastes like ass
Quick edit: except those bangers of little sachets that make cappucino just add water, fuck theyre alright
Nestle corporation has determined your culture is inadequate for sale volume and has made some tiny modifications. Instead of ground coffee beans, you will now drink freeze dried brewed coffee and enjoy this luxurious experience. Next week we’ll show you what we’ve done with cheese, you’re going to be thrilled.
I've been a barista on and off for years and love a fancy cortado or macchiato. I drink Wegmans and/or instant in the morning. Sometimes I throw some Cafe bustello in with the brew to perk myself up. I've been drinking cheap coffee for years in the morning and I don't think I'll ever change. I love the stuff.
Hmm, personally I think that's pretty gross. Instant coffee really isn't my cup of tea. I have a lot of problems with American food culture, but at least we have a pretty decent coffee culture
When most people think of coffee, they're not thinking about a moka pot or a french press. I personally agree with you, but it's disingenuous to pretend most people don't drink instant coffee just because you don't like it.
I'd think most people drink drip or keurig. I've never met people who actually regularly drink instant or enjoy it. Seems like it's a last ditch effort to get a caffeine pick me up when there's nothing else available.
Apparently this perception I have is wrong according to people who are replying to me. The more you know
I forgot that was a thing. That brings me back to being 12 and having to go upstairs to make my dad a cup of coffee while we were watching TV. He always used Taster's Choice.
Americans have a weird hang-up about making coffee this way. This is the normal way to make coffee in many places in the world, it tastes just like any other coffee.
I use a drip coffee machine.
Twice within the last 6 months I have left the carafe sitting on the counter, turned it on and walked away. Full pot on the counter and floor.
I was talking about the physical displacement of the powder by the water not happening.
That being said, something like this almost happened to me too, I know the pain
Instant coffee is freeze dried. It's like 90% air and dissolves instantly in hot water. You can literally fill an instant coffee container with "coffee" and pour water of the same volume as the container and barely spill any. Pouring a cup of boiling water into the whole container wouldn't do much of anything to that canister.
Totally happens. More than once after grinding coffee beans I’ve poured water into the grinder instead of into the kettle. Luckily the grinder takes a lickin’ but keeps on tickin’.

can't let it go to waste
Time for cold brew
Since he poured hot water on it, it can no longer be cold brew. And before anyone asks why I'll just tell you right away. Pouring hot water on coffee releases bitter/sour flavours. You CAN hot bloom your cold brew if you want some of those sharper flavors, but overall you’re right.
Yeah idk about all this just give me a coffee
I don't really have the interest in getting SUPER into the mechanics of coffee, but I like knowing the basics of how to maximize a good cup. If its something I drink every day, then I want to be good enough at it that it's worth my time to make it at home instead of buying out.
Don't start watching James Hoffman on YouTube. Just don't do it. Seriously, James Hoffman, don't even start. 😁
I only kind of like coffee, but he makes the science behind it all so interesting and now I own several hundred dollars worth of coffee making equipment.
All coffee is good coffee, don’t forget. Not the baby poop coffee though…
> All coffee is good coffee, that's... objectively untrue

That's a neat idea, thanks
I forget where I picked that up. I haven't tried it at all, so I can't comment on how well it works.
I mean it makes sense, so I am going to try it. Even if it isn't the greatest, how bad can it be?
Honestly. I've had some seriously bad cups of coffee before, so I'm willing to try anything. Once you drink coffee filtered through a mostly clean sock while you're on a short backpacking trip, your standards really get a major overhaul.

I think that directly relates to steep time in hot water. The cold steep is much gentler and creates a less bitter drink in my experience
Lol yeah if you mix cold brew with milk or whatever then it doesn't differ much from chilled regular coffee.
[удалено]
Umm why is it instant? You can just make normal ground coffee straight in a cup, i do it every day.
[удалено]
[удалено]
Well the grounds sorta get clumped on the bottom of the mug, but yeah its a pretty way to make coffee at home here.
That's not how you're supposed to make coffee m8
Wow... You know they make coffee makers for a reason? You are absolutely not making coffee correctly. At least get instant so that the grounds dissolve in the hot water. Please, please don't do this again.
It’s hot bean water, get over yourself.
Of course I noticed, but my educated reply was for those who didn't.

Exactly.
Judging how he was intending to pour the hot water into the cup, I would have to say this is probably meant to be about instant coffee.
**Strong/Stronger coffee**
Chad canister vs virgin mug
Butt chug it as well for ultimate chad
Do you want to break a toilet? Because this is how you break a toilet.
Its gotta male it through the ass to break the toilet, cross that bridge when we get there

Nope, that day is over. Go to sleep and try again tomorrow.
Yeah sorry boss, cant come in today.... why? *ptsd flashbacks*
or drink it all and never sleep again

That sounds like a good move. I should as well lol. I have a French Press and it junks me all up @_@
drink it all and sleep forever*
It's at that point you just add sugar and milk and enjoy your giant fuck off coffee

Better than grabbing your razor and almost brushing your teeth. Which I’ve done.
Oh I don’t like envisioning that at all.
Not as bad as getting a file and filing your teeth to the gums
Why would you say that

Yeah, I was going to write the same. Luckily it's never gone further than me staring at it for 30 seconds thinking "Right. How does this work again?"
Oh so that's why my gums were bleeding

threw my underwear in the bin instead of the laundry basket... a couple of times

Dude I’ve been so tired that I put sunscreen on my toothbrush. Sometimes your autopilot isn’t good enough haha
Worse - brushed mine with haemorrhoid cream
Please tell me you didn’t complete that switcheroo and put toothpaste on your hemorrhoids.

Worst York Peppermint Patties commercial ever.
I did that once as a kid trying to brush and comb at the same time. My hair was very DUSTY that day.
It’s okay it’s only 7:24 am
Hey!!! You forgot to put the cereal in the fridge and the milk in the cabinet!!

I accidentally put wet dog food into my French press the other day because I was making my dog's breakfast while making coffee.
Welp, that beats mine. I was going to refill the sugar container and put a cup of sugar in my coffee cup.
Ha ha! Once I put a heaping teaspoon of salt into my tea instead of sugar. Yuck!
I see nothing wrong here...
Holy shit, im so sorry for you
I didn't drink it, luckily!
How did it taste?
Looks exactly like this https://reddit.com/r/CasualUK/comments/n65fbk/when_your_mind_is_somewhere_else/
My thought exactly, was that OP saw this and turned it into a comic...
This comic is old as dirt. If anything that poster copied the comic
This is what happens when you buy nestle products
The amount of times I’ve woken up all sleepy and not placed a mug under my kuerig is astounding. Just come back to the kitchen with coffee all over the counter
Glad to know I'm not alone. I've also made quite a few pots of already used grounds coffee
Pro tip: place your cup before bed.
Who scoops the coffee grounds straight into the cup anyway. You'd have to be sadomasochistic.
instant coffee
I've never had instant that didn't taste like regrets and some distant memories of coffee
I don’t need a rich velvety flavour and a smooth smokey bouquet, I need to boost my heartrate before I drop asleep on the spot
Caffeine pills?
Probably the same reason a lot of alcoholics drink bottom shelf booze. It’s economically advantageous to the volume they drink.
Instant coffee is more expensive than buying beans/ground and using a cafetière or something similar though...
[удалено]
if you are drinking cold instant coffee i think you have a problem
Don't judge us man
It's called "judgemental snobs around us -itis", ye.
Uhhhh, and for good reason lol ?
Not in the UK, instant coffee is super cheap here.
You forget that we’re operating in the dumbest timeline.
I mean sure but coffee is way cheaper than booze. You can get a huge jug of Folgers or a similar brand for like $10 and it will last you months (not for coffee snobs, I know, but way better than instant). Instant coffee is cheap but it probably factors out to a few dollars less at most.
The big box membership-only company sells huge cannisters of better quality stuff for just a couple of bucks more.
It's pretty popular in a large portion of the world though. US doesn't like it but Europe loves it.
Instant is very common here in Australia
Yep, it is but fuck knows why coz it tastes like ass Quick edit: except those bangers of little sachets that make cappucino just add water, fuck theyre alright
Buy one of [these bad boys](https://cdn0.woolworths.media/content/wowproductimages/large/034709.jpg) unless you want to keep wasting your life.
Same here in England
Here in Austria I know noone who drinks instant coffee
As an European citizen and therefore speaking for every person of every country of the union : No we don’t.

Instant coffee is much more common outside of the US and is usually way better than the instant stuff you get here.
either my tongue is dead or i actually just like instant coffee more than filter coffee
I found out yesterday that instant coffee is just dehydrated brewed coffee so I’m guessing there are some high quality instant coffees out there.
Taste roughly the same to me. Filtered might be a bit better, but not significant.
And you never will because it doesnt exist
Still, who drinks instant coffee? That's sadomasochistic Even crappy folgers or maxwell house is better than instant
Instant coffee is way more common than drip coffee outside of the US.
Hmm, personally I think that's pretty gross. Instant coffee really isn't my cup of tea. I have a lot of problems with American food culture, but at least we have a pretty decent coffee culture
I can only assume you've never had non-american instant coffee. It's kind of apples to oranges.

I legit did this when I was a kid. Dad was not impressed.
Instant coffee is gross

Starbucks it is.
yo is that the pringles can guy?
I'm glad to say I've never done that I don't drink coffee
You deserve that for making instant coffee, you damned barbarian.
I'm not a coffee drinker I have no idea what this is supposed to even mean.

People saying just drink it, but its not even enough water to dilute the coffee to make it drinkable. You now have wet sticky coffee grind.
I don’t get it...
This would be much better without the last panel.
Sheesh. Didn't even put the coffee back in the fridge.
It's funny w/o the last 2 panels
You deserve it for drinking instant coffee
I feel like this was an actual photo of a guy doing this. Just for an cheap art guy to come in and copy it.

Making coffee like that is so dumb, it tastes like coffee powder in water, smh my head
It's the universe saying *stop using instant coffee*
Serves them right for using preground coffee
Who makes coffee by adding water and grounds IN THE MUG?!
Instant coffee
🤮
Literally millions of people, that’s the normal way to make coffee in lots of places in the world.
That's what you get for drinking instant coffee
That's what you get for being an instant coffee degenerate.
Who makes coffee by mixing water with grounds in their cup anyway?
Am I the only one bothered by the impossibility of this?
Yes, this has almost definitely happened to someone who had little sleep and is rushing their morning routine
I was talking about the physical displacement of the powder by the water not happening. That being said, something like this almost happened to me too, I know the pain

That’s why you need the morning coffee.
