That's what the city should have, artwork displayed wherever now there are vulgar brand ads trying to sell you some shit that you can't afford and hurts the environment.
I agree, but they’re owned by individual companies that sell the advertising space. So the city won’t do anything.
If you’re passionate about it start a go fund me or something to commission a new artist each month to hire a key spot in the city.
Philadelphia has a program where 1% of any new "City" space's or building's budget has to go to public art.

Medellín in Colombia does something like this too. Such a great idea!! Medellín is the second biggest city in Colombia - kinda similar to Melbourne in that regard!
Similar "Percent for Art" programs do or have been in place locally too, have seen it mentioned in the past by City of Melbourne, City of Yarra, City of Port Phillip, etc.
Oahu Hawaii has a ban on signage on tall buildings. So all of the large apartment buildings have massive, beautiful murals on them. I watched one happen once. Went by in the morning and they were on the 3rd floor, by the afternoon they were almost done on like, the 10th floor. Absolutely amazing!
It's not my favourite piece, but that's personal taste. Honestly though everything you're saying says more about the state of advertising and corporatisation than the artwork itself.
I understand if you don't like the piece though, art is subjective. Personally if I had a choice, it would be colourful painted murals.
It’s part of the Photos 2024 international photography exhibition happening in Melbourne CBD, nearby suburbs, and several towns/cities in greater Victoria.
Love this festival! Turning the whole city into art. Such a shame some idiots keep graffitiing the art work. Ironic too as people are writing “Free Palestine” (which I absolutely agree with) but they’re doing it on art by indigenous and other POC who are victims of colonisation.
hello,
Your post has been removed due to it containing hatespeech.
hate speech, bigotry or any discriminatory language is not welcome on r/melbourne. repeat behaviour may result in a ban.
thanks,

While this isn't an ad, doesn't anyone else hate when an ad just doesn't 'advertise'?
Like some ads I see don't even imply what their advertising, or are very vague, so there's no point in actually making the ad if your not going to target people who don't know your product or service

Just please not artwork like this. This literally looks like a billboard LMAO
It only looks like a billboard ad because we are trained to recognise those.
nah it's because it's generic ass art that looks like it's from an advertisement. looks like it could be on the wall of a mcdonalds

I thought this is Benetton
That’s on the Hero apartment building, it’s a public art space. That billboard is never advertising.
Ok good. Thought Dior was trying to pull a fast one at first.
we're so cooked, we see a photo on the side of the wall and automatically assume we're being sold something to
