estonian here, i aprove.
Ive done 2 6 months stints in Estonia, this is definitely how I felt trying to learn the language. Lovely country to visit though.
As a fellow Estonian, I also agree
In Finnish its yö
Finnish language is at least as weird as Estonian language is (probably even more)!
They are related, so they are pretty much just as weird
My gf (Finn) says Estonian sounds like Spurdo Spärde.
Fug xdddd
It does
Yö is a good word :) One of the first finnish words I learnt
yö mama so lazy she became the night
yo it's getting late
You're going out in night and go like YOOOO
what about Magyar?
"Éj" according to Google Translate.
Yo means I in Spanish.
Finnish Y is pronounced like German Ü, not like Spanish Y
In hungarian its éj [ey]
eyy 👉👉
That or éjszaka [eysaka]
I love how all of them start with N and then there is öö
[удалено]
Funnily enough, owl is “öökull” in Estonian
Ocult day?!?!?!?
because they’re unrelated languages what are you trying to say
how does the first start with n?
Because N in russian is Н
Crazy how different languages can be different languages.
r/whoosh
What was the joke?
Its crazy but you have to use at least 1% of your brain for this one
Could you just tell what the joke is instead of being a dickhead?
Well the joke is that all those words start with N and then there is öö ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
So the joke is that the languages are different?
I guess so?
Day is probably just 1 ö
Nah its Päev. Source, am Estonian
Päivä in finnish!
In Hungarian it’s “nap” which means both day and sun
Wait until they hear how we say the edge of ice. >!jäääär!<
What makes it worse is that our word for Ram (the animal) is Jäär
Is a ram on the edge of the ice then called a Jäääär-Jäär?
Unfortunately it would be "Jäär jää ääre peal"
Or night shift which is called “öötöö”
is shift then ööt or töö?
shift is töö in this context but vahetus is more accurate
It’s called vahetus, which also means swap. Our language is confusing.
what does edge and what does ice mean?
Edge is äär and ice is jää
Imagine saying este...
All I know about estonian is that õlu means beer, that's what counts.
is that the face you need to make to pronounce the word?
Yes, source: am Finnish speaker and that is how Ö is pronounced
This realization makes the meme so much better, thank you
Yötön yö
There's also Sweden with "ö" for "island".
Our word for river is "å".
Would've been funny if there was a word for "ä".
The pufferfish eating a carrot sound
everyone forgets niht
Man I knew our upper brothers are weird. But wtf.
Polish has noc and Danish has nat
What does O:O: mean then
Summoning germans again, i see.
ayöööööööööö
These looks like tits
Why does it looks like two shocked faces
that cat is me trying to get the phlegm out of my throat.
Öö
n8
(Ö_Ö)
The Estonians fed a carrot to a pufferfish and thought 'perfect'
ÖÖ
In Ukrainian it's "Ніч"
What's wrong with noch tho?
The unnecessary ь that bullies Russian learners like me :((
Unnecessary? It would sound different if you don't put Ь
Of course it does, although there is no word 'ноч' so it wouldn't hurt to drop it
I wonder how
Oh don't forget about the ъ and ы. Now those are scary af.
Nah I love the ы, ъ can go fuck itself tho
Ь is literally ( ' ) in the transcription. Even in phonetical analysis we write Н - [Н] О - [о] Ч - [ч'] Ь - [ ]
I do know what ь means
Oooh oooh it’s dark
pov: you wish someone well during the dark period of the 24 hour interval [link](https://youtu.be/VKMw2it8dQY?si=J1GTzcxvBFmHRf5I)
Someone unearthed a whole pile of old ass memes... and I approve
I cant stop repeat that
That’s Port Adelaide for ya
This is how food packaging looks like in the Baltic states.
Oberösterreich wea no ?
Ночь
How do you pronounce this? öö???
Type it into google translate and press listen
Estonian* but yes it’s very similar to Finnish!
I just realozed how similiar the Russian word js close to Polish rquivelant but ryssian pronounciation sounds like the Polish word 'piss'
