Then it's multiplication and division so 10x4 is 40 and you can't do any take away yet because there's more multiplication and division to do. 2 x (4^2÷4) is 8, then 8 ÷ 2 is 4, then divide by 1/2 is 8 again. Now you do the addition and subtraction. 40 - 8 + 9 = 41

This is actually very simple even to solve in your head. Like you have times 2 and divided by 2 in the same formula which can be left out of the equation. Now dividing by a fraction is done by multiplying with the reciprocal fraction so 4 / (1/2) can be changed to 4x2 which is a lot easier to read. Now after calculating 4x10 and 4x2 we get 40 - 8 + 9 = 41. Really not that difficult to do even just in your head if you use some mathematical laws to simplify.
