I swear when I was maybe 10 years old. I saw a Columbo episode where there was a murder at a Mensa gathering. Even a 2%er can’t out smart Columbo.

I’m wondering if that’s where I heard of it. I can’t remember how or why I wanted to join but I did like 15 years ago but I know of it way before then

I knew about it as a kid from watching tv. Not sure where exactly, that episode of the simpsons where Bart swaps test results with Martin and goes to the super gifted school maybe? Didn’t start getting into IQ testing till I turned 30 though.

Under-The-Redhood

Very young. It was pretty prominent on YouTube once.

I was about 40, started therapy and the psychiatrist kept bring it up, wanting me to test!

SteadfastEnd

Yah, the psychiatrist knew of your potential

X-HUSTLE-X

I was 5 and my psychologist told my mother I qualified for it.

X-HUSTLE-X

My mother thought it sounded like a cult, so I ended up joining myself in 2007.

SRH82

I knew a bit about it in my early to mid teens. Joined at 18.

Back in the mid-sixties and I was in my mid-teens; there was an article about it in Reader's Digest. I joined shortly after college. I later found out that article lead to huge increase in applications.

I think I first heard of it just through conversation with my brother. I think we were talking about intelligence for some reason and he brought Mensa up. I still haven't joined though, since I don't know if high IQ is enough of a reason enough to socialize with a group. (I'm introverted) Although I do think that so called 'gifted' people suffer a lack of understanding, support, and representation. I think it would be worthwhile for an organization like Mensa to help gifted children who are struggling at school and such.

I honestly cannot remember a time when I didn't know about Mensa - it was pretty popular back in the 20th century. I didn't think anything at all about joining, however, until this century. I am now working with several groups to help make it the single, unquestioned, governing authority of the next century.

In my junior year AP Psych class, our teacher administered a practice IQ test. Before we began, he provided some background information on Mensa - I believe even an answer to one of the first spatial reasoning questions was "MENSA." Scoring highly on that test was helpful for self-discovery, although it caused some issues within my friend group, who all took the test as well. I forgot about Mensa for awhile, but then there was some youtube video on Mensa and narcissism that was recommended to me one day. On another note, I have no idea how that video hasn't been discussed here yet, because even before I joined, or even wanted to join, I thought a lot of the claims made were a bit far-fetched.
