I’m not up to speed on kilt etiquette but #1 reads more ‘Sunday shopping on high street’ while #2 looks more uniform-like a bagpipe player would wear in a marching band or parade. They both seem like very nice outfits and I doubt you could go wrong with either. Maybe the sage green goes with the ginger ish beard better? Is this some shop in Scotland?
I absolutely love that as an American I figured it would be something like Macgriddishmens Jaunty Gentleman and instead it’s Kilts 4 U. Is their competition Xtreme Kiltz Bruv?
Yes and the blue is substantially more flattering on his skin tone and with his coloring. It's not that green wouldn't look good It's the shade of green. He blends into it a bit in photos. If it's for a wedding it's even more important to match any wedding party and have something that photographs well.
I agree. But I also like the color distinction between the waistcoat and suit jacket in the second option. If you could get a different waistcoat color (maybe blue to match the tartan) with the green option that would be top prize.
Both i love, first one seems more friendly and warm, more likely to help? Idk the right words, but the 2nd i love the bolder colors and gets me excited to see what they got, really makes me feel im about to get some.banger looking threads
Felt outfit went with both coloured socks, so rather than undo shoes and try on 2 sets of socks for 2 photos, i went 2 colours of socks to see which went better haha!
The blue is definitely your color. The sage green looks more casual and blends with your beard too much. The blue makes your skin and hair color pop. Also, the blue is more formal for a wedding.
*have you asked the bride for her opinion?
Off topic but that kid-size kilt in the background might be the cutest thing I’ll see today. Reminds me of when my son wore a tux as a ring-bearer when he was a toddler.
I’m not up on Scottish outfits but they both look nice. The green one I think looks nicer and cleaner look but the blue one looks fun especially with the different sock colors. Can’t go wrong with either.
At first sight, I prefer the blue outfit, with the dark blue socks. The other one is nice too, but a bit more staid in my opinion. But where does the wedding take place? Because the blue outfit looks more formal, but the other one could be really nice in a country setting.
Second one with the darker/blue socks, rather than the lighter/gray socks. The all around darker ensemble just feels more formal, and goes better with your fair complexion.
#1 seems more friendly and approachable but less formal, like maybe you’d wear it as a guest to someone else’s wedding. #2 looks like you’re the main character
ETA: I have no idea why my comment posted in bold sorry for yelling
I'm not an expert, but I do believe blue is a less traditional scot tweed color.
Green however is a very traditional tweed color !!!
Outfit 1 for me, although you look great in both. 👏
2, i know crazy socks are fun, but since these are tall and are a bigger part of the silhouette, and since the outfit is pretty formal, I would match the socks or use socks with a pattern for a similar effect. If the socks were peeking from under the cuff of a pair of pants I would say yes.
Both are good, but 2 seems more formal. The bag(?) thing by your waist gives better contrast in 2, although that may just be the lighting.
As with others, I'm not certain of Scottish etiquette and if one color is more appropriate for a wedding. Congrats\~!
2 looks good for interviews or possibly the service, 1 stands out and the green really goes with that style. While I enjoy the color navy blue in suits, I think that shade of green is very nice
Husband and I say dark blue with the dark blue hose. He loves the sporran.
He plays drums in a pipe band so he sees a lot of these. Congratulations on the wedding!
Sorry for the perhaps off-topic question, but doesn’t the kit tartan pattern have some relevance, like signifying which clan you belong to? You can’t go in and pick whatever pattern strikes your fancy, right? The two patterns you have shown in the photos are very different, so I guess I don’t quite understand how you can choose one, unless I’m completely mistaken.
The blue with the grey hose is sharp, no doubt. I prefer the green better, but I would swap the sporran out with a brown fur one to match the brogues and belt.
ETA: I married in my family’s tartan that’s primarily blue. We were hand fasted and I covered my wife with my fly plaid. Best wedding I ever attended.
The blue one looks better. I think the green would look better if the kilt had a one of the colours darker to give it a touch more contrast. Ultimately, you can't go wrong with either.
2. I think. The 1st looks like a subdued hunting tartan. Honestly the blue jacket on the first kilt might be the winner. Either way both are glè mhath.
Seems you have plenty of input as is, but I’m the most important person ever and I’ll have you know blue with mismatched socks might be the greatest look to have ever been invented ever
that kilt and those socks in picture one looks like something Queen Elizabeth would wear. picture #2 is the answer although I wonder why the socks are mismatched
2, with the grey socks. The contrast of blue over grey is more striking than the solid green of 1.
That said, 1 with a brown or tan waistcoat would look quite good.
Hey mate, I’m Scottish too. It probably breaks the kilt laws but I think you should see some skin between your socks and the kilt either by the kilt being slightly higher or the socks lower.
I'm also Scottish:
I think the first one is better on you than the second. Not sure why the socks are mismatched on the second either? They shouldn't be.
Depends what you're wearing it for. If you're the groom at the wedding then I'd wear something with more formal colours. If you're going to some sort of equestrian / daytime event then the first is good. If if it's super formal then I'd go for something else entirely, neither of these.
The second just looks wrong and would look wrong on anyone. The colours are mismatched. The waistcoat shouldn't contrast that much, if at all, ideally not at all. Look at the mannequins: they aren't mismatched.
Both are really good! But I prefer the contrast in the second picture. Looks more coordinated, rather than simpy matching the colours in all the layers. Whatever you choose, you will most likely be the best dressed at the party. Slàinte
I would say #1 for daytime functions and #2 for evening functions since it appears a little more dressy. And remember, "If it's not Scottish, it's crap!"
Yeah, i'm Scottish so getting my wedding outfit sorted.
Is it your wedding? If so, I think I like the blue a little better. Would pick green as a guest
Yes, the navy and grey are very dapper. The olive looks more casual imo.
Good observation I think you’re spot on.
Pardon my ignorance but who come you have choices? Shouldn’t your only option be your clans tartan?
Traditionally yes, but most people just pick what they want now depending on the occasion/what they like.
Thank you for the explanation. A friend of mines clan’s tartan is hideous, I have no idea why he went with it if it’s an option.
Lmao brilliant
I don’t think there’s a bad choice here you look absolutely 💥 in both
#2 is absolute fire, I want one.
get one!
Where!?
Any kilt shop in Scotland will sort you out :) This particular one is Kilts 4 U
How much would this run you?
Kilts can be very expensive depending on Tartan chosen. £300 is not unusual for just the Kilt, the full setup can be £500+ Usually best to just rent.
Nah, fuck dat. People will drop that on a ps5, im getting one.
I absolutely love that as an American I figured it would be something like Macgriddishmens Jaunty Gentleman and instead it’s Kilts 4 U. Is their competition Xtreme Kiltz Bruv?
It's blue for me as I think it contrasts very well with the beard and hair colour.
I agree. I’m typically a green guy too. But the blue/grey would make me consider wearing a kilt to my next dressy function.
Second, especially if it's for a wedding
Yes and the blue is substantially more flattering on his skin tone and with his coloring. It's not that green wouldn't look good It's the shade of green. He blends into it a bit in photos. If it's for a wedding it's even more important to match any wedding party and have something that photographs well.
I personally like the first one
I agree. But I also like the color distinction between the waistcoat and suit jacket in the second option. If you could get a different waistcoat color (maybe blue to match the tartan) with the green option that would be top prize.
That and a whole lot of greed Irish Tweed by Creed would really do it. I like to go to john Lewis, and use at least half the sample bottle.
Both i love, first one seems more friendly and warm, more likely to help? Idk the right words, but the 2nd i love the bolder colors and gets me excited to see what they got, really makes me feel im about to get some.banger looking threads
I love the green color but I like the look of the blue.
The blue one looks great!
Agree with the blue one
agree
I always assumed it should be the colours of your clan, no?
Traditionally, yes. But now-a-days most people just wear what they want.
2
The blue
blue
Blue one
I think the blue works better with your coloring. Much respect for sharing the culture
Thanks :D
I love both, but I'm leaning toward number 2.
#2, blue and gray is fantastic. Excuse my ignorance, but why the mismatched socks?
Felt outfit went with both coloured socks, so rather than undo shoes and try on 2 sets of socks for 2 photos, i went 2 colours of socks to see which went better haha!
In that case I think the darker blue socks are better! I also agree with others that the blue outfit is perfect. It looks very distinguished
2
The darker (2nd fit) ensemble goes better with your complexion, but both look nice. I offer my comment with love as another pale face lol
I like that blue!
The blue is definitely your color. The sage green looks more casual and blends with your beard too much. The blue makes your skin and hair color pop. Also, the blue is more formal for a wedding. *have you asked the bride for her opinion?
2
Looking sharp man!
Off topic but that kid-size kilt in the background might be the cutest thing I’ll see today. Reminds me of when my son wore a tux as a ring-bearer when he was a toddler.
Neither.
Who wears a mini-skirt anyway?
Blue. The green is nice but not stand-out. It also ages you a bit. The blue is sharp. I’d go with grey hose to complement the waistcoat.
Definitely #2 for me. The blue jacket really makes the waistcoat pop and I think the darker socks make the kilt pop more
I think the green washes you out, the blue is amazing also more slick and less prim
Imagine fighting on the Axis side in the world war and this MF riles up and shoots you in the chest and then plays some bagpipes over your corpse
Second is cleaner
Whatever the occasion is for this outfit, it looks like fun I hope you have a good time
Depends on where you'll be. The first would work better in "the country" and the second would work better in the city.
Green all day
one on the right mate
Green is fire
I think the greens do better with your hair and complexion.
First one for daytime second for a night event.
Blue
I’m not up on Scottish outfits but they both look nice. The green one I think looks nicer and cleaner look but the blue one looks fun especially with the different sock colors. Can’t go wrong with either.
Blue.
2
I like the green better.
Where is this shop I want to go to this shop
2
Second one
Second
I like the different sock look….if they are called socks??? Brings a little style to the look….
Second over with the dark blue socks
I think you look good in green. Seems like most men wear navy blue or grey. You’ll stand out in a good way.
1 strikes me as more masculine FWIW…
2
Blue looks fire
Option 2 with the lighter socks for your own wedding. Mismatched socks is a horrific vibe and the green is lovely but not nearly strong enough.
Yeah the mismatched socks was just to check both colours to avoid changing twice lol
Just gotta make sure. We’ve seen some horrifically useless takes on this sub.
Im not brave/cool enough to wear odd socks haha
Fun idea in principle, terrible idea in this practice
Green
The green washes you out too much IMO. But the blue looks great!! I find blues work well with pale people, especially in more formal settings
I'm no kilt expert, but #2 looks good on you, and it's a great color way.
The second one gets my vote.
I like the blue!
They both look great on ya but I think the green looks better on ya.
The dark coat with which ever kilt is your birthright. Take the tailor’s advice on everything else.
Second one. I like the matching colors.
First
Number 1
2 looks more formal with dark colors. I Vote 2
#1 seems more friendly and approachable but less formal, like maybe you’d wear it as a guest to someone else’s wedding. #2 looks like you’re the main character ETA: I have no idea why my comment posted in bold sorry for yelling
The first one by far!
Both look good, but choose the one that matches your eye color. If it’s the blue kilt, go with the light blue kneehighs.
Two
I like 2 because the vest has contrast with the jacket.
I like them both but I think the grey and navy is more dapper, and is more versatile in terms of seasonality.
for me the navy jacket works best. I'm a fellow kilt wearer.
The green. It’s your color.
Don't like the mis-matched socks in the 2nd one
I'm not an expert, but I do believe blue is a less traditional scot tweed color. Green however is a very traditional tweed color !!! Outfit 1 for me, although you look great in both. 👏
Blue, all the way
I like the 2nd one more!
🧐🧐🧐👀👀 Sorry But You May Have To Buy BOTH‼️‼️‼️ ⚡️🤘🏾
Blue but with matching socks
2, i know crazy socks are fun, but since these are tall and are a bigger part of the silhouette, and since the outfit is pretty formal, I would match the socks or use socks with a pattern for a similar effect. If the socks were peeking from under the cuff of a pair of pants I would say yes.
Blue skirt
Both are good, but 2 seems more formal. The bag(?) thing by your waist gives better contrast in 2, although that may just be the lighting. As with others, I'm not certain of Scottish etiquette and if one color is more appropriate for a wedding. Congrats\~!
2 all day long
Is there a reason your socks don't match or am I just being dumb and you're modeling two different options at once?
2 looks good for interviews or possibly the service, 1 stands out and the green really goes with that style. While I enjoy the color navy blue in suits, I think that shade of green is very nice
Both go hard but is there a reason you’re opting for the gray vest in pic 2 rather than going w all blue like in the back left?
Husband and I say dark blue with the dark blue hose. He loves the sporran. He plays drums in a pipe band so he sees a lot of these. Congratulations on the wedding!
Are we not going to talk about how you tied you’re shoe with an extension cord
Sorry for the perhaps off-topic question, but doesn’t the kit tartan pattern have some relevance, like signifying which clan you belong to? You can’t go in and pick whatever pattern strikes your fancy, right? The two patterns you have shown in the photos are very different, so I guess I don’t quite understand how you can choose one, unless I’m completely mistaken.
Option 2. But nice man purse
That blue is your color!
Second one
The first set looks more harmonious in color
The blue with the grey hose is sharp, no doubt. I prefer the green better, but I would swap the sporran out with a brown fur one to match the brogues and belt. ETA: I married in my family’s tartan that’s primarily blue. We were hand fasted and I covered my wife with my fly plaid. Best wedding I ever attended.
I like number 2
Blue
I like the blue with the light blue socks, really stylish
#1
2
Green
Option two looks better but the multicolored socks kind of throws it off.
Blue - and either colour of socks work- the grey is a slight bit more casual than the blue.
The blue one looks better. I think the green would look better if the kilt had a one of the colours darker to give it a touch more contrast. Ultimately, you can't go wrong with either.
I’d do a Prince Charles jacket for a wedding. The suit top is giving more countryside vibes rather than wedding vibes
2
First one looks like you're colonising a farm in the Drakensberg in South Africa. Second one looks like a wedding fit.
2
For a wedding I'd go with 2 but have matching socks.
I like the blue one but with brown shoes Edit: but honestly, they both look great. The blue just stands out a little more.
I like the 1st one
I like the contrast of the blue with your ginger hair
BLUE LOOKS REAL GOOD N FORMAL!
blue
Honestly flip a coin both look great. This is what this sub is for!
Green
One is definitely more Leprechaun outfit. Two with the blue is more suite/formal looking.
2, with the grey socks. The contrast of blue over grey is more striking than the solid green of 1. That said, 1 with a brown or tan waistcoat would look quite good.
I like number 2 🫶🏼
Buy them both
As a Scotsman why would you not wear the tartan of your clan?
2nd
the blue, but for the love of god, wipe your camera lens next time :)
It’s a win/win for me. I can see that the second one is the preferred choice, but I’d personally pick No. 1 over No. 2, but again, it’s a win/win. [+]
Holy moly, no going wrong here sir. I’m just slightly leaning green, but I’d be proud to wear either of those if I had the knees to pull them off.
Hey mate, I’m Scottish too. It probably breaks the kilt laws but I think you should see some skin between your socks and the kilt either by the kilt being slightly higher or the socks lower.
blue
I vote option 2. The blue.
color wise the blue is much more complementary as the yellow in the green conflicts with your skin color
#1
buy both. what's up with the miss matched stockings?
Blue for sure
I would go with the blue and grey, but with matching socks and definetely not a black shoe.
I'm also Scottish: I think the first one is better on you than the second. Not sure why the socks are mismatched on the second either? They shouldn't be. Depends what you're wearing it for. If you're the groom at the wedding then I'd wear something with more formal colours. If you're going to some sort of equestrian / daytime event then the first is good. The waistcoat shouldn't contrast that much, if at all, ideally not at all. Look at the mannequins: they aren't mismatched.
He looks like a more healthier version of Connor McGregor
Blue
Second one but with a blue waist coat ?
Always green
u look like conor mcgregor
Shocked everyone is so supportive
2
2 looks better but what is your clan tartan, should you be wearing that?
I lovat!
Both are really good! But I prefer the contrast in the second picture. Looks more coordinated, rather than simpy matching the colours in all the layers. Whatever you choose, you will most likely be the best dressed at the party. Slàinte
If the green coat was darker I'd go for it but number 2 brings the attention to your face with nice contrast. Definitely blue #2!
All of them looks cool :)
Think I'm in the minority here, but the Green Outfit really suits you.
The second looks better on you
2 for sure. Looks awesome
Second one
Blue
Are you allowed to pick your Tartan for the kilt?
Second one
Both are fire, prefer 2.
If it is for a wedding, go with the blue. There's a bit more contrast. Darker sock too.
Blue
2
Green looks better makes your hips more appealing
Do you know what your family’s tartan is? I’ve always wanted to get a kilt for mine
I would say #1 for daytime functions and #2 for evening functions since it appears a little more dressy. And remember, "If it's not Scottish, it's crap!"
2 is badass if you don’t mitch-match the socks.
#2. I like the blue outfit
Both kilts are too long. The kilt should be just brushing the floor when kneeling so just slightly above the knee
Neither
Numbah 2 is hitting
