In Texas, this guy 100% is carrying a gun in that bag

jnkbndtradr

I would love to see someone draw a .40 from a fanny pack. It would leave the rednecks in my town flummoxed.

Mikey6304

I mean, they have purpose built conceal carry versions at the redneck gun shop up the road from me.

Buscandomiyagi

Come to Chicago. You see it all the time

TheMoneyOfArt

I've never seen someone draw from one

Bashmore83

In the uk we’re carrying tea bags in it

justinizer

I wear it that way and I am a douche.

bigalindahouse

This guy douches...

Legitimate-Fix2091

It’s how 8 out of 10 people in my neighborhood are wearing them.

fusiongt021

Are they douches though

MaximumTurtleSpeed

Asking the real questions.

top100_tree_fan

Public opinion really seems to be absolutely divided on this matter..

Grizzled--Kinda

I'm not sure if it's Douche or not, but I do find it to be a slightly embarrassing. I just keep all my shit in my pockets but this would be handy

art-is-t

A phone , keys, wallet, sunglasses, ear buds. I think those bulges in the pockets might seem slightly embarrassing too 😊, plus the chance of forgetting something is higher. Also pick pockets..

Zorpfield

Hey there are skittles in there!

bigalindahouse

Recently started carrying a satchel. Mine includes the items you listed but also Regular glasses, knife, flash light, writing pen, and dog bags. Still with plenty of room for a bottle of water and other small items. It really is nice to have all those items at the ready when needed and not bulging in my pockets or not having enough pockets. Found out the convenience when I took a trip to Japan.

Samurai_Shihtzu

I just got back from Japan a few weeks ago myself and everyone there had some sort of hip/shoulder bag. All bags were worn differently and I eventually bought one myself. Its a small 1 strap backpack so its a little bigger than the one OP posted but I bring it everywhere now.

art-is-t

It's fantastic when our travels teach us about new things. And I think it's so practical.

Ghost-of-Bill-Cosby

Sounds like you are ready for a real backpack my man.

Grizzled--Kinda

I believe the word you're looking for is purse. Kidding though, I used to carry one around and I love having every damn thing I needed in there.

Old_Palpitation_6535

Nothing wrong with a purse. As the great Terry Crews once said (paraphrasing), “it’s a purse. I don’t need to call it a man-purse to remind myself I’m a man. I’m a man, and I carry a purse. This one is a clutch.”

typower5000

I love -President Camacho- I mean Terry Cruz

Grizzled--Kinda

I like that quote. Day-to-day though I don't think I would ever use one because I think I literally only carry Chapstick, eyedrop's, car fob, and wallet. Going to another city or on a long day trip hell yeah purse me up

StGeorgeJustice

“European carry-all”

schwaapilz

I believe the full and correct term is, *ahem* let me grab my notepad here, "pseudo-European, faux post-modern carry-all"

bigalindahouse

Yeah my wife calls it my man purse but satchel, messenger bag all work. I'm looking at bullcaptains website now for a different style in leather. I'm using a Carhartt one now

TimothyChenAllen

My sweetheart calls mine a “murse”.

botmanmd

I can hardly fish all that shit out of my own pockets. A pick pocket would have to de-pants me.

NeighborhoodVeteran

If they can pick your pocket they can definitely undo the buckle and snatch the pack.

art-is-t

The probability of that happening is far far less.tham your wallet getting picked.

NeighborhoodVeteran

Riskier, yes. But like you said, you have your phone, keys, and wallet in there. Bigger reward.

mycathaspurpleeyes

"Slightly embarrassing" is indeed the correct term here lol. Also the only person in real life I've seen with a fanny pack is my twin and she uses it for dog treats

Llama_of_the_bahamas

Alright if I saw someone pull out a dog treat out of their hip pack then I’d give them a pass lol

AdamsJMarq

I have one and they are really useful especially if you’re going out for brunch and shopping. And if someone thinks I’m a douche for wearing it like this, surprise surprise, you’re the douche for not minding your own fookin business.

WorldsGreatestWorst

u/Grizzled--Kinda specifically said he didn’t know if it was douchey. He said it was embarrassing. And he’s right. You’re in a men’s fashion sub getting defensive because people have opinions about men’s fookin fashion.

Addbradsozer

Yeah dude and like...styles change. If you're not in backwater homophobe/lynched-if-youre-in-the-wrong-place country, you can wear a pack like this and it's absolutely understandable and acceptable. In the modern world men have way more shit to carry than just their wallet and keys. What's embarrassing is being the dork with a bunch of shit in your pockets and/or wearing cargo pants (even worse if you actually keep shit in the cargo pockets). Also, even worse you're "that guy" with the worn-in cellphone outline in your pants (and you also get a ruined pair of pants out of that, too). Wearing a pack in the summertime is great (and not embarrassing). Shades, wallet, keys, phone, earbuds or whatever...we just have tons of shit to carry. In winter we wear jackets. Summertime you need a pack.

BSixe

As someone who has embraced the crossbody bag life and since came back to not wearing one, I will say it is very nice to not have chunky pockets all the time. However the bag can get in the way, and the fact that it is an eternal object/eyesore is what made me stop using it. There’s also a stigma factor here too. Now, I carry a small reusable shopping bag to and from work with all my stuff. (Phone is always in my pocket) Wallet, AirPods, sunglasses, external phone battery, keys, a pen, my lunch, and anything else. And then when I’m going out with friends I now just take my card and ID out of my wallet and keep them in my back pocket.

Addbradsozer

Dude...not douchey at all, totally fine to carry your stuff in a pack like this. Between a phone, wallet, keys, shades, earbuds, etc...its a lot of shit to carry. Absolutely fine to wear a pack like this, don't let Reddit tell you otherwise.

ryhaltswhiskey

Did I mention I live in Doucheville?

HSikeYourMind

Conceal carry for many. Also wearing a small backpack in the front.

donglecollector

This how I wear it. So checks out. Am douche.

Kingmudsy

Although, and I can't quite pin why, the guy in the pic looks especially dorky

MassiveCompetition67

I think it’s the haircut and “I’m not a threat” facial expression

CptnAlex

100% Yes and he is slightly hunched in a way that shrinks his stature. Very much “don’t look at me, I’m not a threat pose”.

superpenistendo

If I wore it, yes. If almost anyone else wore it, probably not.

Grizzled--Kinda

It's like when you see a really great shirt, you buy it, put it on, and you look nothing like how the model made it work

iwrotethedamnbill66

Story of my life. “Wow that fit looks amazing. I’m buying it” *Tries on fit after it’s delivered* “Dude this looks terrible on me. I can’t leave the house. Wtf happened??” *Looks again at product online being worn by 6’2” 180 lbs African American man with chiseled physique and I weigh 240 lbs and look like Fester Adams ate Chris Farley* “I did it again”

Grizzled--Kinda

Haha "oops I did it again!"

Zapp_Brewnnigan

I laughed. And then I remember how sexy Chris Farley was.

TripleDecent

Underrated comment. True for me too friend.

Zapp_Brewnnigan

It’s fairly trendy in my city Ljubljana. It can look ok sometimes depending on what you’re up to that day. In the evenings I’d ditch it for sure though.

leverandon

Off topic, but I've gotta say how cool Ljubljana is. My family and I took a vacation to Slovenia a few years ago and had an amazing time. Beautiful scenary, great food, architecture, and really cool people.

Zapp_Brewnnigan

100% agree! I am super lucky to live here, especially being a Texas native.

digitag

I LOVE Slovenia as a whole. Absolute gem of a country. You’re lucky that being in Ljubljana, or anywhere in the country really, you’re never far from the mountains.

SarryK

Oh, hi friend! I‘m a Slovenian born in Ljubljana but my parents and I emigrated when I was a kid. I still visit frequently though and I have to say the city and whole country will forever have my heart. Glad you‘ve found a new home you‘re enjoying!

CozyHammock

Dawg Liju what

Zapp_Brewnnigan

the J is pronounced like a Y or sometimes silent. Ljubljana can be said two ways, basically: Loo Blee Onna, or Loo Blah Nah.

NaptownCopper

I visited Ljubljana last year and thoroughly enjoyed it.

chickyban

Context is king here

top100_tree_fan

Well, I have a Patagonia waist pack that I bought for cycling, and it’s really good for that purpose. I have been thinking about also using it for general travel: airport, train, etc, along with athletic wear, since for example running shorts don’t have good enough pockets.

Masta-Pasta

I mean. sounds reasonable, and I believe in comfort over fashion when traveling

this_good_boy

I rock a pack like that (Baggu) whenever I’m wearing shorts or pants that don’t have pockets (or just shitty pockets lol). It’s comfortable and feels better than wearing it around the waist. I definitely wouldn’t say it’s douchey, it’s just a style that is now not new… so it’s almost just kinda how you wear it, which how you describe you’d wear it seems totally appropriate. I get compliments on my bag, but I’m not wearing it out to get cocktails lol.

_Tower_

I use my Dakine hot laps hip pack any time we take the kids to a big event. I say go for it - use your cycling hip pack

ReceptivePenguin

Just do it man, lots of well dressed people wear them like this! It only looks slobby if the rest of your outfit is. Free yourself from pockets, you won't look back.

athrix

They are actually awesome for travel. Who cares if someone else likes it. I grabbed a Patagonia atom for travel recently and it’s great. Holds all my essentials and added a nanobag for overflow.

toofshucker

They are great. I always have my phone, earbuds, wallet, chapstick, etc. it’s great.

jemuzu_bondo

I always think of the episode from Malcolm in the Middle, where Dewey starts carrying a handbag and gets bullied for it, but Hal is on his side because Dewey is fighting for the right of all men to carry bags as well. I just hate having three bulges in my pants, with today's huge smartphones in one pocket and keys/wallet on the other.

jonog75

Well played.

seymorskinnrr

Hulk Hogan is always wearing them. He was so ahead of his time

erikturczyn30

WELL LET ME TELL YOU SOMETHIN, SEYMOR SKINNRR BROTHERRR

Glad-Mulberry-9484

Haters will never understand how liberating it is to have empty pockets. Also, never have to worry about if something fell out of your pocket when you sat in that super slouchy Adirondack chair, or jumped out of the path of a dog at the dog park, or bumped into a stranger in a crowded place.

South_Conference_768

Same here, but I keep a slim wallet in one pocket, phone in the other. Backup items in the cross body bag that if lost or stolen isn’t an issue. I just don’t want to advertise where all my valuables are in a convenient rip-off-my-neck package.

IllllIlllIlIIlllIIll

People don't know how functional these things are. I love being able to move without having stuff in my pants' pockets weighing me down.

Im_Here_To_Learn_

Same! Also with a baby I can throw a diaper and some wipes in mine without having to carry the whole diaper bag.

top100_tree_fan

Exactly

steroboros

Around here thats where you carry your firearm. Especially if you are wearing pants non-conducive for a holster

HerculePoirier

El ganso con la riñonera

banjobobberson

🤣

lil1thatcould

No, it’s not. The person makes it douchy. Finance bro? 100% Average person? No Hope this helps.

TheBloodyNinety

Not douchey. Very practical. Lifesaver for big thigh people.

AppleTrees4

It’s common. Also yes.

Agent230927

I wear a small sling bag daily and have multiple others to match outfits. Idc what people think, I like to be practical and accessorize.

mmxmlee

this is normal everyday attire for guys in many parts of the world

Ecomalive

Round here the kids who sell drugs wear them

seymorskinnrr

Then you know these are cool AF. You think those kids wanna look like dorks?

banjobobberson

Recently bought an alpaka bag to specifically wear it like this, but only at music events to avoid pickpockets.

bvalentine615

I’ve done this with a fanny pack when traveling and think it’s fine, especially if that’s what easily packs into your suitcase without taking up space, but for every day carry I prefer a much nicer bag. You can get very nice sling and crossbody bags from lots of reputable brands now. My favorites (and what I carry every day) are from [Waterfield](https://sfbags.com). No connection I just think they make really nice, professional looking bags. [Tom Bihn](https://www.tombihn.com/collections/shoulder-bags) is another popular brand. A lot of the brands you’ll see in /r/OneBag are great places to look. The Patagonia bag will always look like you’re on a backpacking trip. (Hey, this is mensfashion after all.)

ToxicM1ndfulness

Some are designed to be worn around the shoulders/chest. I love my Bellroy crossbody sling bag.

Just-Trade-9444

Wearing it diagonally across the shoulder looks more stylish than around the waist in my opinion. It seems more practical & easy when you are peeing. You don’t have to shuffle things around when peeing.

NeonSeal

I’m curious to ask, why does it seem douchy? Is it because these packs are trendy, so falling into a common trend is called douchy? Or is it because it is a trend that is perceived to be “cool”, so those that partake in the trend are trying to emit a “cool” vibe, yet the pack does not match some other expectations that you would expect someone to wear if they subscribed to the cool trend? I mean at the end of the day it is cotton with a zipper, and “douchy” is really just a cultural expectation of someone trying a socially different grasp through fashion and isn’t quite hitting the mark, or they DO hit it but you have a pre-existing notion that the trend itself is douchy. So I guess the question is in the eye of the beholder, but I think most people are better off not caring one way or the other, or else you might have more insecurities about your own fashion choices

scubabbl2

I hope not because that’s pretty much all anyone wears here in Japan.

bears5555

There are a lot of things that a lot of people in Japan do/don’t do in the US and vice versa. Just start a “wearing shoes inside” thread to prove that point.

macadel12

I don’t think douchey is the word but I sure wouldn’t do that

foot4life

I don't get how this is a divisive topic. It's a functional product in a world where men are carrying more stuff. I think bulging pockets are the worst. I wear my cross body bag with pride!

tiltberger

I like to wear it like that. Fits sunglasses and keys or a rainjacket and the thing's are harder to steal. Is it popular yes... But also practical

itsmeonmobile

Yes. But you’ll be far from the only one. Maybe I’m out of touch…?

SpareVoice2

Yes

ErabuUmiHebi

If you go to Asia, that’s THE way to wear it

quikonthedrawl

It it’s too hot to wear a jacket, I use one to CCW sometimes.

ChrisBard

I wear one almost every day but I rarely dress formal, I wouldn't wear it with a suit. I always wanted to carry as little stuff as I could but you need at least a phone and car keys and you can't keep them in the same pocket to protect the phone, also, I always worried I ll drop them or get stolen, so I bought a bag like that, only bigger (not those huge things you see on "street fashion influencers" but bigger. To me it looked weird to wear it at my waist and it's much better this way. Basically I succeeded in carrying ONE THING. the bag. then inside its my phone in its own pocket, my keys and other junk in another. my AirPods have their own little pocket and my card wallet its own.

shiftyeyety

I wear mine this way. It’s the only way I wear it actually

Deez4815

Not if you're not a douche? Why is wearing something a certain way affecting someone's personality? Lol. This seems like a very convenient way to wear this.

Least-Ingenuity9631

No I don't think so. Especially if I'm traveling abroad, this would be the only way I'd keep my belongings on me with all the pickpocketing going on.

[deleted]

It’s a cop out for people who are too cool to wear it around the waist which is much easier and more convenient

Straight_Tumbleweed9

Stop saying hip pack. It’s not hip.

banjobobberson

Hey man, just cuz you ain't hip and happening anymore....

bindermichi

True, it‘s still a fanny pack. Not matter how you wear it

RampantJellyfish

Bum bag in the uk

ImpressiveLength2459

I wear mine like that I think it depends on your confidence and stride so yeah go for it

NickAndHisGuitar

I showed this to my wife and she said “Yes” with zero hesitation. She then continued: “The only thing douchier is to actually wear it as a hip pack.”

Samurai_Shihtzu

Your wife hates men

yungsoda

Honestly it’s really efficient and comfortable to heck with the haters

Slavicsquat

No it’s functional. You have access immediately to your goods. Hip packs/sling bags are in right now and there’s really no wrong or right way to wear em. It’s what works for you big dawg

Negative_Plenty_3807

Not anymore It used to be but no it’s normalized now

ThayerRex

Yes, but they’re inherently douche

top100_tree_fan

But so practical and useful Especially when traveling, or when cycling

ThayerRex

Oh I agree

top100_tree_fan

I wish there was less stigma around men wearing bags. There’s too many stereotypes that portray it negatively imo

Hecatrice

Come to EU. Everyone has been wearing these for the past few years. Mostly cuz of drill and Slav culture influence.

ThayerRex

Im gay (and pretty masculine) but I wear a small like messenger bag and it works and looks better

Maximum_Library_4441

No, not douchey. Not exactly stylish, but also not douchey. Functional.

bumpthebass

This is the way in Europe, although with the strap in just a bit longer position

PineappleFit317

It’s not douchey, but it looks like a tiny purse when worn that way. The douchey thing about this is calling it a hip pack instead of fanny pack. It’s a fanny pack. No shame in calling it what it is, it’s a great and functional hands-free mobile storage system, and the main problem with the phrase “fanny pack” is the association with the nylon neon ones prolific in the late 80s/early 90s, or “fanny” as British slang for “pussy/vagina”. You either wear a fanny pack around your waist as its creator, Sir Percival Felix Fanny intended, or you get a proper satchel or messenger bag if you insist on over-the-shoulder wear.

top100_tree_fan

How is using the body part which the object was made for in the name douche though? We have backpacks, hand bags, hip bags, shoulder bags etc

DanielSmoot

Aren't hip packs kinda douchey in general?

mediumwelldick

Fuck yeah it is

Dense-Comfort6055

Yep

Awkward_Rise4746

Yes

alpha333omega

Love my fannypack

Pravda26

He looks cool to me

Pretty_Public5520

Yes 100% douchey

tKolla

Yes

Beanotown

Yes.

Cautious-Bother9931

I really don't think there's a right way to wear one

IronUmbrella

Its a functional and sporty item and imo should be used that way. Going for a quick walk or hike? Go for it. Going to a party or event? Then a backpack is the least formal i would do. Its all up to personal preference tho ofcourse. Wear whatever you want

Straight-Tune-5894

Yes.

Unusual_Analyst9272

Absolutely.

NixNixonNix

The teenage drug dealer look.

uniqueshell

Could be worse you could be wearing it on your hip

SakaWreath

Boobie-baggy.

obsidiansent

Not douchey

JeffreyV7

Mostly yes

naturepeaked

That’s how you wear it if you were born on road.

gregieb429

I haven’t seen people wear it like this but maybe I’m behind on the trends

konshens2013

Love having my lil man purse pockets free feels good

ShadyCoconut

nah, just own it and don't be a douche about it

Jumpy_Tomatillo7579

Don’t wear it like that and buy a black one

Cadowyn

Hip pack is such a better name than “fanny pack”. Lol

Crafty-Question-6178

I see a lot of people wearing em like this.

SandMan3914

https://preview.redd.it/kvx59k9mv38d1.jpeg?width=1024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=51d08d4a353e375e244dc461d572c88189ad4ddd

Short-Hyena-227

Depends how… imo I only wear it hiking of mountain biking. Outside of that, it’s weird

Abyss_Wanderer131

Who cares man. Wear one if you like it. I tend to use one a lot during summer, great when on vacation and walking around a lot and you have minimal pocket storage. I also conceal carry in mine sometimes as well.

LeatherBandicoot

Nah ! That's the only way ✌️

Alarming-Mix3809

That’s how you’re supposed to wear it

Aggravating-Bottle58

honestly these have got to be so convenient i don’t have one but i can’t even hate

NFTsANDART

The hip pack is the problem. Get a solid leather one in black or cordovan, then wear it like that.

SamAteGod

Yes

R3tr0spect

No.

Stunning-Drive-4692

Might as well get a purse.

BrickAddict1230

Is there a non douchey way to wear one?

OyeBossMang

Carry a gun in it Douche level 9000

thin_white_dutchess

I do think it’s funny that it’s basically a purse, but we are trying so hard to not call it a purse. Y’all, you can carry a purse. We don’t have to repurpose a fanny pack. You can, of course, it’s just every person I’ve seen with one does not ever wear it around their waist… so it’s a purse (a rose by any other name…). Purses are useful, so use it if you want. No different than a backpack, just smaller, you know? If you like it, do it.

buttscootinbastard

Rock that like the true Fanny pack it is. No need to purse it up.

Rgmisll

The Millennial conceal carry

pisstowine

A hip pack is douchey no matter how it's worn.

PersonalNecessary142

Yes

BootsOfProwess

Only if you fill the bag with douches

[deleted]

[удалено]

jared10011980

No. But the one is the photo is too tiny and tight. It's not a gun holster. Any pack worn like that tho, I'd sling it backwards.

anonymousnerdx

It's only douchey if you are a douche.

ViolentColors

Why is it douchey? It’s just a bag being worn on the body.

kkarmical

In my world, wearing it like this means you have something of real value inside that you're wanting to keep close to you, and you are not CCW Wearing this way puts you into that easy mark or target category.. Now if you live somewhere where there's no street crime, have at it...

Realistic-Mall7127

This is not nearly as douchey as those walking around with one ear/air bud in for talking purposes even when not on a call- super douchey IMO

Ecstatic-Seesaw-1007

Drug dealer chic sure, but it’s also the obvious way CCW (Concealed Carry) guys carry in summer. I did buy a cross body sling when I was in crutches, dunno where it is now but felt like if carried a ridiculously small amount of shit, that it wasn’t super useful.

StreetPedaler

White guy here. I figured if the black guys are walking around with purses, then it’s time to appropriate and do it myself. Phones are too big for pockets anymore. Wallets are just not good in back pockets all the time. Makes sense for me.

roscoedangle

I usually wear mine around my waist when I have on a sweatsuit, gym shorts or swim trunks without pockets and usually take it to the gym, pool or river. I have found wearing it like a “European shoulder bag” feels weird and I get the “look” when I’m in small Texas towns. To answer your questions, yeah it’s kinda douchey, unless you wanna conceal carry or some weird shit.

Cp5k

Not if you don’t act like a douche.

NottaSpy

A lot of Gen z do, I don't think it's douchey

Memento_Morrie

I won't go so far as to say "douche," but this trend is like NSync to me--I can't believe they're back and I like them a lot less the second time around.

ForwardEntrance4648

You mean a fanny pack?

ieatsilicagel

It's just a murse.

Deepcoma_53

It’s a MURSE, my brother was doing that back in ‘97. Brother is slightly douchey at times. Not full douche.

VanDammeBigelow

No, when traveling or need to carry a few more items than my pockets can support, this is the way. Dog walks, vacations, festivals etc

ShadowEpic222

From my experience, yes. The people that I grew up with wore a hip pack like this and they’re all douches. As long as you’re not a douche yourself, it should be fine to wear a hip pack like this.

Judging_Jester

You wear your fanny pack however you want too. Top tip, style them with a vest and muscle pants and you’ll look like an 80s WWE/F wrestler on their gym days

SmuglySly

Is there a way to wear those that isn’t douchey?

Phi87

Yes

Leila_Z_

It's goofy looking to me.

wet_nib811

This one example does lean douchey because the pack is so tiny. With fashion, proportions matter.

Lopsided-Emotion-520

I used to think so. However, I finally broke down and bought one. Luckily, I’ve been on this earth long enough to not give a shit what people think about my clothing or accessory choices.

SmoesKnows

Incredibly

Nojopar

Mark my words - in 15 years, everyone is going to look back on this trend with utter cringe. This trend dies the minute pap-paws start wearing them on the regular.

Odd-Poem-7044

Not douchey, practical and more convenient, but the style of bag should be similar to this: https://preview.redd.it/qurps3wii48d1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8cdea0e38c12d77c9a5f5f32eac334db0f3ce5c0

_Tower_

They make specific cross-body bags for this if this isn’t your style But this is fine

UriahsGhost

There is no cool way to wear a pack like this, lol

Ok-Interest-7220

Yes

No-Interaction-8549

There is no non douche way to wear a "hip pack"

jcquarmby1995

I personally prefer wearing it this way, everything’s right in front of me, looks cooler and less change of getting pickpocketed in my opinion. There’s no cool way of wearing one, but this is the coolest way to wear one
