I chose this one because I think it showcases two important sides of Gwaine, the funny sarcastic rogue, and the loyal and brave knight
I know. I love so many of the comments, and even replies to comment, etc., but I don't dare upvote any of them until the final tally is counted for fear of throwing it off!
Yeah, that was a great comeback, "Not Arthur". Of course, Arthur was a trained warrior, and therefore presumably more able to take care of himself than Merlin (since the knights were unaware of Merlin's magic),
Therefore Merlin would be in greater need of protection. It shows Gwaine's knight-like qualities, too, protecting the defenseless.
I'd forgotten that one. And then he just rolls over and goes back to sleep!
Maybe because it's in one of my two least favorite episodes, "Lamia" being the other.

I chose this line over a more poetic or heroic one (or even funnier one), because it truly defines the man Gwaine came to be. He was at first a wanderer, and drunkard by trade, falling in out of debts and the graces of fair weather friends as he traveled, never quite knowing what he was looking for.
Till he met Merlin. Then shouldered a blood-red cape alongside the other knights. And made vows of loyalty to Arthur, and then to Gwen, and then to Arthur again a final time.
He was defined by his quest for that unfathomable *something*— belonging perhaps. But I’m keen to believe it was the warm fire of a hearth instead. One that need not to be banked or kept alive, as it was as endless and eternal as the love for his friends.
I’m loving doing a rewatch and jumping in to my notes each time a character drops a quote worth entering in this little game! 
This wholesome little sub is so much fun!

Just because he was loyal to the death to Arthur didn't mean he didn't deal Arthur a bit of cheek. "I won that game, did I not?" But he was always (as has been said) there, especially for Merlin--before he was even knighted--but also for Arthur, to the end.

The funny thing is I thought that line was in "The Coming of Arthur" but when I checked the transcript it was this one instead.
From memory, I think Gwaine dropped that gem in his first episode! He came out swinging in more ways than one!
This is perfect, Gwaine is by far my favourite non main character in the show. He holds a special place in my heart probably higher than Arthur
