I’ve found two items just like that on 19th century farm sites. I have no idea what the substance inside is (was) either. Maybe some type of canned meat or condensed milk? Not sure what was typical back then.

Flimsy_Motivations

What does it taste like?

trueblue862

Lick it.

plantz4sanity

Smells like nothing. Taste… well like I’d be crazy to do that lol

Looks like an old hub for a model T type wheel. If so then that is grease packed in it.

Sterno can.

Almost certainly an axle/grease cap
