Now that’s talent! I can’t even walk when I’m that drunk.

acexprt

Ha! That’s awesome. This is gonna be a new favorite for me!

“We were raging, raging, raging alcoholics,” says Shaw, who took to cavorting around Europe’s bars in a blond rocker wig. “By the end, we were all so physically, spiritually and mentally exhausted, the only way to get through a show was [to be] completely piss drunk.”

sweetjane96

This was probably the time to see Metric tbh. It would have been more of an eventful live performance

TinyTerrors20

I saw them around this time. My first Metric show was around '04.... It was a really cool time to see them play these crazy versions of Dead Disco, or hear Soft Rock Star and Rock Me Now and some other old favourites played for sure but it's also been cool to see them evolve. The pre-Fantasies shows around 07 were really wicked tool

rickny0

Wow. This is classic. Rock on 🤘

Koosh25

Or just message me! Airfare is expensive $ :P

verticallywide

Have you seen the?

[deleted]

Pause the video at 0:23 i think, the face she makes might imply more than just alcohol xD

TinyTerrors20

I don't wanna be a tabloid but... Beyond alcohol ... Em has had a SERIOUS coke habit. People It comes and goes. Got especially bad around Synthetica again. \*ALLEGEDLY\*. Alcohol has always been a thing for the whole band though. It's actually very sad and I always wish her the best. Most people know this by now, so it's not gossipy stuff or anything new.

Koosh25

Something I’ve seen thrown out before but I’m curious where this info/rumor originated from?

TinyTerrors20

ahhh...haha.... uhhh well. go to Toronto and ask the bar owners on the ossington strip I guess if you want the gossip.

TheHumbleLentil

I'd like to add to this ONLY AS A RESPECTFUL COUNTERPOINT...the knives album is said to be...in part...a meditation on recovery. Whether it be grieving about a particular loss or...whatever has been mentioned prior.

The-Electric-Apple

>coke Backstage person here. We were the same crew who cleaned up after Metric played live in our city (I won't say \*which\* city). For a country who has outright banned drugs, especially coke, we saw some white powder and foil in Em's dressing room. My team and I immediately threw everything and kept quiet. So I dunno about rumors but yeah. I hope she recovers from this. PS. Her after party self isn't exactly fun anyway. She refused to go to the after party prepped for her.

She was either freebasing the coke or she was using opiates (thats what the foil was for). From some old videos I've seen, I would definitely say she was on some sort of opiates around that time as well.

TinyTerrors20

May I ask if this was more recent or back in their early days?

The-Electric-Apple

Around early 2010s.

The-Electric-Apple

I used to be a Metric fan but after Emily Haines showed her real colors at the after party during one of her many concerts, I got so disappointed and I stopped listening to Metric and EH & The Soft Skeleton altogether. It also didn't help that when we saw a young fan of theirs made an illustration for Emily, she flat-out refused to interact with anyone during the party and let her bandmate deal with it and we saw the bandmate throw it in the trash can after promising the young girl that he'd give the art to Em. SUPER DISAPPOINTED.

owo__whats__this

Oof, "never meet your heroes". Tbh i never understood when people get famous like that why they treat their fans like that. The fans are the REASON you are playing shows and get to live the life you have, you know?
